Okay wait, but I've got another idea: a Gravity Falls AU. Recently I've been rewatching the show, and I think it has a lot of similarities to ST, so I've been thinking...
Robin and Steve are twins (fraternal, with Robin being two minutes older, and I'm thinking they're, like, 16 or 17 in this AU) and they're sent by their parents to stay with their crazy uncle Hopper over the summer. They live in Chicago, but Uncle Hopper lives in the sleepy little town of Hawkins, and is kind of a mystery. He owns a tourist trap called the Oddity Emporium, and even though he's kind of a stingy, crotchety older guy, he loves them, and the Emporium is where they live.
Robin and Steve move into the bedroom in the attic, and as soon as they get settled, they start to notice some oddities outside of the museum. First, Robin swears she sees a fairy flying around when they're exploring the woods, then Steve is convinced that one of the statues in the town square is in a different position when he comes out of the supermarket, but they have no proof. They try to chalk it up to their uncle's place just messing with their heads, but then, they're exploring the woods one day, and Steve trips and falls into a ditch.
Robin immediately climbs down to check on her brother, and he's fine, but he hit his head on something and they decide to check it out. It turns out to be a chest buried at the bottom of the ditch, and when they finally pry the ancient lock open, they find a book inside.
Steve isn't impressed at first. It's a weird book, what's so special about it? But Robin cracks it open and they start to read, both amazed by what they find. It's some kind of journal, apparently the third in a set, that has a mysterious unknown author, and it details all of the weird creatures and supernatural goings-on that make Hawkins so weird.
At first they don't want to tell anyone about it, not even Uncle Hopper. They don't know why the book was buried, but it seems like there was a reason, right? Maybe it's a government conspiracy or something. But they study it together, trying to figure out who in the crazy little town might have something to do with writing it.
They become friends with Eddie, another guy a little older than them who works at the Oddity Emporium as a handyman/cashier/whatever else is needed of him, and his friends, Gareth, Rich and Jeff. They're the cool kids in Hawkins, rowdy teenagers who just always seem to have the best hangout spots (including a secret ladder that leads to the roof of the Emporium) and the most fun of anyone else in the town. They also befriend some local kids who come with them on adventures, Dustin, Will, Lucas, Erica and Mike. They're all younger than Robin and Steve, but they're pretty cool, and they're more accustomed to the weirdness that plagues the town, so they're pretty awesome to have around.
There's also Mrs. Byers, who runs the diner in town, and her other son Jonathan, who is kind of friends with Eddie and his gang. Jonathan is also Will's older brother, so he and his girlfriend Nancy often tag along on adventures. And of course there's El, the psychic girl who is the centerpiece of the other tourist attraction in town, the Hut of Hypnotism. Her dad and Uncle Hopper have been in a war for best tourist attraction for years, but because El made real friends and doesn't like using her powers (which no one knows how she got) just for him to make money, Hopper often comes out on top. There's the local cops, Powell and Callahan, who are not great at their jobs, but perfect for comedic relief, and finally, the local kook, another hermit who lives in a shack in the woods named Old Man Murray.
Robin and Steve get to know the people of the town pretty quickly, and they find them all pretty amusing for the most part. Even Old Man Murray has his good points. But there's one person that they meet a few weeks into their stay that they simply cannot stand. Billy Hargrove, the rich asshole who's great great grandfather apparently founded the town.
Billy seems just as awful as his parents, who live in the mansion atop the hill with him and his sister, but they kind of have to put up with him, because his little sister is friends with the other kids they're friends with, and he's told to keep an eye on her. But he's still a jerk, snarky and always acting like he's better than everyone else because his family is rich, and he loves to be the center of attention. But as the summer continues and they battle more and more weird monsters, Steve and Robin start to think that he's not so bad.
Especially Steve. Sure, they had a rough start, but after fighting a horde of Goblins, uncovering an ancient tomb with a mummified Native American Chief inside, and working together to capture a vampire that's haunting the old wing of the Hargrove mansion, they've kind of bonded whether they like it or not.
It's about halfway through the summer when things start to get really weird. Firstly, Steve and Robin had to time travel over and over again to make sure the timeline stayed correct and so Steve would still get to keep the pet goat he'd won at the county fair. It was a whole thing. Then, they find out that El's dad, in order to try and get a leg up on Hopper and try and destroy his business, had the second of the three journals, and they had to fight not only the man himself to get it from him, but also some kind of dream demon that went by the name Henry Creel and seemed to enjoy toying with them. They didn't defeat the demon, but he told them that he'd leave them alone until they became important, so they tried to forget about him. And finally, they tell Uncle Hopper about the books, which he laughs off and says is fake, but that some of the things in it would make great attractions at the Emporium. Robin and Steve know the truth, though, and still use the journals to their advantage every time they need to.
Finally, the summer is two thirds done, and Steve and Robin have three major problems: One, they're still no closer to finding the author of the journals. Two, Henry is back, and he's hinting at something big coming soon. Three, Steve has developed a huge, embarrassing, inexplicable crush on Billy Hargrove.
When Robin first finds out about that third one, she groans and tries to remind Steve that all summer Billy was a jerk to him and that they have bigger problems to worry about. But Steve tries to tell her that Billy is changed, he's not really as big a jerk as everyone says and he knows it sounds crazy, but he's pretty sure Billy likes him back. Robin rolls her eyes at first and just tries to focus on their other mission, finding out who wrote the journals, but she can't do it by herself. Every time she tries, Henry appears in her dreams and throws her off course, and it's getting annoying and, quite frankly, terrifying. But eventually Steve returns to help her and they find out that the answer lies much closer to home than they'd realized.
They're walking around the Emporium one day when Robin drops something and it rolls under the porch. She and Steve crawl under to get it, but their combined weight causes a bit of the ground to collapse and they fall into a basement they didn't know was under the Emporium. They're confused, because it doesn't look like the kind of place that Uncle Hopper would have under his house, almost like a bunker of sorts. But the real surprise is when they find not only the journals that they showed Hopper and he never gave back, but the first one, too. He had it all that time.
They're obviously pissed, so they grab the books and find the way upstairs, using an elevator that leads them to a staircase that opens up into the (thankfully empty) gift shop of the Emporium behind the vending machine. They find their uncle and demand an explanation, and he finally tells them the truth.
His daughter was an incredibly intelligent girl. She was always looking for adventures and documenting her findings in the very books they were holding in their hands. This was all before they were born, so they never met their cousin Sara, but it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Hopper told them that she got in too deep with her mystery hunting, and she encountered Henry Creel long before they did. Only, she made a deal with him, a bad one, and she ended up dead.
Hopper says that the official story that ran in the newspapers was that she had brain cancer, and an aneurysm is what took the young girl away so suddenly. But Hopper knew the truth. Something in those books had killed his little girl, and he didn't know if it was still out there, but he hoped that if he could hide the books well enough, no one would be able to use them to go looking for it. He kept only one for himself, just wanting to hold onto some little piece of her, because it was her greatest passion, and it was all he had left.
After he tells the twins the story, they tell him that they've encountered the same demon, and that it wasn't even their fault, but that they've beat him before. Hopper is amazed, and asks how they did it, but they say they aren't exactly sure, they just knew they didn't give up until he surrendered.
Hopper is still amazed, but he tells them that if they ever encounter the demon again, they're not to engage with him, because he's smart, and he has no qualms about killing for his own gain. He also tells them that he doesn't want them going around looking for any other weird creatures or anything, because if they get caught in some kind of trouble, he doesn't know how to help them and he doesn't want them getting hurt. They say they won't, but they both know they're lying.
Especially when, two days later, Henry comes back, and he says that it's time. He visits them in a dream they end up sharing, and says he's got big plans coming, so he's gonna give them some advice. He tells Robin that she thinks too much, and she should learn to clear her head. Then he tells Steve to keep his friends close, his family closer, and his enemies closest. Then he disappears, and the twins wake up together, scared and confused. But they know that whatever Henry is planning, it's up to them to stop it.
It's a week before they're set to go back home that it happens. They're not sure how, but some sort of rift in the fabric of the universe allows Henry's hellscape of a dimension to leak into theirs, and even more horrifying creatures than the ones they've already seen that summer (and that's saying something, considering they've encountered shapeshifters and bears with multiple heads) start infesting Hawkins and walking around like they own the place. Robin and Steve are both terrified, but they know they have to help fix it, so they start trying to figure out how.
They know it's going to be different than the first time they fought him. That time, they were I the mindscape, where whatever they could imagine would happen, and they could conjure weapons and such. But this time, they're in reality, and they have to rely on their wits and whatever they can scrounge up around them to fight with. They don't know how, but they know they've got to do it.
Finally, they're almost ready to confront the dream demon and fight him with their friends, but before they can get close enough for even one swing at him, he stops them, and starts to monologue, as villains do. He says that it's cute that they thought there was strength in numbers, and he says that that's not how he plays the game. He reminds them of the advice he gave them, and says they're going to need it if they want to save their friends, who he has levitating off the ground by now, all of them frozen and looking terrified. He says that they're going to play a game, and their friends are taken away, flying off to somewhere else in the labyrinth of a palace Henry's built for himself. He tells them that he put one of their friends in each different room of the place, and that they're going to have to go through one room at a time to attempt to save them. Each room will get more and more difficult, and they'll each take a wing of the palace to go through, they can't do it together. They'll get three tries to answer each riddle, and if they can't, then their friend in that room will die an agonizing death. Robin and Steve are terrified, but they stand their ground, and say that they'll do it.
Henry is all too delighted, and tells them that if they manage to do it and get all their friends out alive, then he'll allow them a chance to try and beat him. He's clearly doubting their abilities, and entirely too amused for their liking, but they know it's their only choice, so they accept. And as such, the games begin.
They each get seven rooms. The riddles for Robin start easy, but the answers are so simple that she begins to overthink them, and it almost costs her her second room. But she remembers the advice Henry gave her, and she knows the stakes. She also knows that he never gave them a time limit, so until she's sure she's got the answer, she doesn't even chance it. She saves Mrs. Byers first, then Jonathan, Mike, El, and Erica. The second to last room is occupied by Eddie, and it's one of the simplest riddles, but Robin almost loses again because of the overthinking. She is down to her final try when she finally gets it and saves him, and is finally sent on to her last room, which contains her uncle Hopper. She is timed on that one, but even under the pressure, she's noticed a pattern to all the riddles, they all have something to do with fire, so she figures it out by process of elimination, and saves her uncle.
Meanwhile, Steve is faring a little differently. He doesn't just get riddles with simple answers like his sister, his riddles all have something to do with the person he's trying to save. Something that he would only know if he knew them well. He figures out that this is what Henry meant by "keep your friends close", and once he figures that out, it's pretty much a cakewalk. He saves Nancy, then Murray, then Lucas, Will, Max and Dustin. Finally, he gets to the last room, and he finds Billy inside. This is the hardest room for him, and even though he's not timed, he only gets one chance to get this one right. He thinks about all the other riddles, all of them having to do with either some fear the person had or some kind of thing that could be used against them somehow. And this riddle is one that hardly makes any sense, where the others were mostly pretty simple. Steve tries to break it down bit by bit, like his math teacher taught him to do when they were doing a tough problem, and he finally figures it out. It's asking for the one thing that would make Billy surrender anything for. Steve gives his answer, and it's correct.
After that, Billy drops back to the floor, and the two of them, as well as Robin, Hopper, and everybody else, are teleported back in front of Henry, who is only slightly ticked off that Robin and Steve have figured it all out. But, he plays fair, and tells them that they can take their shot at him. Robin and Steve can't do any kind of sibling communication between their minds, but they did make up a secret language when they were kids, so throughout the battle, they're able to communicate without Henry understanding what they're saying or planning. They talk about the riddles, how all of Robin's had something to do with fire and how Steve's all had something to do with how to gain the upper hand on each of the people he'd saved. It only takes them a second to figure out that Henry was testing them that whole time, because it wasn't just about them being able to save their friends.
It was about seeing if they were smart enough to figure out what his weakness was.
Ultimately, Henry's cockiness led to his own downfall, because as soon as they figured out that fire was his weakness, they found a way to light the sucker up. It hadn't been easy, and they didn't escape unscathed, but once Henry went down, so did all of his minions.
They didn't remember much after that, both of them being too tired and too worried about their friends and the rest of the townsfolk to worry about what happened then, but from what they can guess, Henry died and all of his demons were sucked back into the portal they came out of, and the town was restored to its former glory. There were still weird creatures all around, and it took them a while to repair some of the damage done to buildings and such, but for the most part, Hawkins just went back to being Hawkins.
Soon enough, it was their last day in town, and as they packed up their things and tried to prepare themselves to say goodbye to their friends, they got to talking about Henry and his game again. Robin tells him about how she almost messed up and lost twice, and he comforts her and tells her that she didn't, so it didn't matter, and even if she had messed up, it wouldn't have been on her, it would've been on Henry. She says she knows, but it's still hard, and then she asks him what his hardest riddle was. Steve tells her about the final riddle, how he only got one shot to get it right, and how twisted up the words were so that he almost wasn't able to figure it out. Eventually though, he found out that it was asking for Billy's one weakness, and at this point, Robin interrupts with a scoff and asks how he managed to figure that out.
And now, Steve finally comes clean with her, telling her that after the whole vampire fiasco earlier in the summer, he and Billy started seeing each other. He says that all summer, he'd been wanting to find a nice girl or guy to have a summer romance with, and he finally found it in Billy, and it was around then that he started to get more involved with her and the journal stuff before the shit hit the fan, because he finally had something. He says that he told Billy about Henry once and how he always tries to figure out your weakness to exploit it (in their case, it was the people they cared about) and he says that Billy told him his only weakness would be him and Max. He'd laughed it off as a joke at the time, but he couldn't have been more relieved about it when it finally came down to that stupid riddle. And he's glad he's telling Robin now, because it felt weird to lie to her all that time and now he doesn't have to any more. And Robin is happy for him, really. After all his failed summer romances that she had to bear witness to, she's glad he found someone that made him happy. Even if it was Billy Hargrove.
Finally, their conversation ends, and they have to start getting ready to say goodbye to everybody. They head out to the bus stop that's gonna take them home and everyone is there waiting for them. The kids are all hugging them over and over and practically sobbing as they make them promise to write, the young adults are all hugging them and telling them they had so much fun over the summer and they better come back next year, and the adults are loading them down with snacks for the trip and making sure they've got everything packed. Uncle Hopper even makes sure that Steve's pet goat that he won at the fair is cleared to go home with them (their parents don't know yet and he may have had to threaten the bus driver, but it's for his nephew, so who cares).
And then finally it comes time for them to board the bus. Robin is crying and refusing to let go of Uncle Hopper, the two of them forming a bond over the summer that she says better not be broken by the time they come back next summer. And Steve is emotional, too, over Hopper and everybody else there. But the person that makes him cry the most is Billy. He makes him promise to call all the time, and invites him to come stay with them in Chicago sometime and says that he'll be back to visit as soon as he can manage. Billy promises that all that will happen, and then, just before Steve has to board the bus, he hands him a little present wrapped up in tissue paper. Steve is about to open it, but Billy stops him, and says with a blush pinker than the bubblegum Robin is chewing that he should wait to open it until the next time he misses Hawkins.
That time comes on the bus ride home, after Robin falls asleep next to him and everybody in Hawkins is miles away. It's a scrapbook that Billy must've put together himself, with an entire page dedicated to everybody important and all kinds of pictures from throughout the summer, even before they got together. He got everybody to sign it, and the very last page is just a letter telling him he'll miss him and he's already looking forward to next summer.
Steve can't help the dopey smile on his face as he gets off the bus and immediately runs to a payphone to tell Billy how much he loves it and how many plans he's already making for next year.

Re-watching Stranger Things I can't help but notice how terrible officer callahan and powell are at their job. -_-
two teenagers went missing within half a week.
two teenagers went missing within half a week both at night right next to the woods.
two teenagers went missing within a week at night, near the woods in a one mile area..
but their just like 'nah probably has nothing to do with each other' 'your friend ran away because you got a boyfriend' 'that thing you say you saw in the woods is irrelevant to your friend being missing since youre prolly making it up anyway' 'your best friend was so jealous of you sleeping with a cute guy that she went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ somewhere for two days before you found her car and reported it so she could then run away'
and i'm just here watching like.. WAT? the connection between barbs disappearance and will's disappearance might be circumstantial, but it's alot of circumstantial and more importantly itz suspicious.
Mike Wheeler's best friend goes missing then four days later Nancy Wheelers best friend goes missing.? Will's bike is found dropped on the ground just off the road in the woods then three days later Nancy says she saw something big and scary in the woods near where Barb last was.? Will's body was found in the quarry the day Barb is reported missing.? All of this happens in a one mile-ish radius.? Joyce said she heard Will on the phone a day-and-a-halfish after will goes missing and Nancy says Barbs car was still at steves the day after Barb went missing.? And suddenly the Byers phone is broken in a way an electrician could probably make happen and Barbs car isnt there when the police look.?
Will's autopsy hadn't even been done yet by the time callahan and powell talk to Nancy so they can't even use the excuse of 'Wills death was an accident so theres no reason to suspect foul play with Barb disappearing'
Both Nancy and Joyce's stories sound crazy sure. A faceless thing in the woods (idk if Nancy actually told them that part since callahan refers to it as a bear) and Will being 'in the lights/wall'..insane. buuuut im pretty sure even back in the 80's cops were aware witness (especially destressed witness) statements arent entirely reliable, as in you have to take the parts that sound crazy and distil it to what makes sense. ie. if a kid tells you it was a yellow dragon when you ask who attacked them maybe look for a guy whos smoking in a yellow raincoat with a big pointy hood. Or more to the point with Nancy and Joyce, a faceless monster in the woods coulda been a guy in an elaborate costume. idk how to explain the Wills-in-the-walls thing but the lights coulda been someone messed with their houses wiring or smthn
The point is Callahan and Powell are incompetent lazy misogynistic morons who are terrible at their job and shoulda been fired by Hop as soon as he found out about the report on Barb going missing too.

It's way after midnight, on fucking Halloween and Jim just wants to go home. He knows that Joyce left pumpkin soup on the stove for him and possibly a few candies, too.
He has to shoo away the kids loitering at the quarry and then Hawkins' fate rests in Callahan's mostly incompetent and careless hands, but Jim doesn't give a fuck. He has seen the worst that Hawkins had to offer and El protected them all from it. What a brave girl - his daughter a voice inside him says, louder than the whisper that he isn't her dad and he never will be, that he doesn't deserve it.
Jim groans when he pulls up to the quarry and sees the car that is parked there. The Camaro's seems to laugh him in the darkness.
Billy Hargrove is a problem. He's collected more speeding tickets than anybody on record, he's picking up fights in the few seedy bars in town and it has all gotten worse since Starcourt. Jim thought nearly dying would get some sense in that kid.
Jim grabs his torchlight and opens the passenger's door.
"Hey Hargrove, trick or- Steve?"
"Fuck!" Steve Harrington turns around, plastic vampire teeth falling out of his mouth. He wraps a black cape around himself to, oh God, protect his modesty.
Jim's cheeks burn. He did expect Billy to be drunk and miserable again.
"Chief."
Billy's face looks about as red as Jim's feels. There is a crooked halo resting on his blond curls and behind him Jim can vaguely spot some white feathers. An angel. Of fucking course.
Jim huffs out a laugh. "Good one - your costume."
This is absurd. But a better scare than monsters, he guesses.
"Thanks…?" Billy mumbles.
"No loitering," Jim says, feeling more secure on known terrain. "You know this, kid."
Billy rolls his eyes. "It's Halloween, no one behaves tonight."
Very angelic, Jim thinks.
"We were just.. on the way to mine. Must have taken the wrong turn," Steve rambles.
"Right," Jim snorts. "Better go home before the sun rises, Dracula."
Steve purses his bottom lip.
"Can I get your hat for next year, Sheriff?" Billy asks.
"Fuck off and go home."
Jim turns around. No point in waiting for these idiots.
When he gets to his car, he hears Steve yell: "He didn't say 'fuck and go home'!"
Jim floors the gas pedal. He needs some candies, because, Jesus, every Halloween in Hawkins is kinda scary.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐥 | 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧
summary: in which best friends, y/n henderson and steve harrington get caught up in their feelings while paranormal activities occur in the small town of hawkins, indiana
cw: fem!reader, I wrote this a long time ago(I apologize for everything cringe), shit writing, first person pov, implications of anxiety, 2.7k
<3
After being taken to the police station, I sit next to Jonathan, my leg constantly bouncing and my fingers nervously picking at my cuticles, waiting for something to happen next. When Nancy returns, she sits on the other side of Jonathan with an ice pack in hand and we all wonder what the consequences are going to be.
"Found some ice." Nancy says to the boy.
"Thanks." He replies before Nancy gently holds it up to his forehead. Jonathan stares at the girl as she looks slightly uncomfortable, "Everything okay?" He asks.
"Yeah." She responds unconvincingly, "Everything's fine."
We all let out exhausted sighs before sitting there in silence once more.
With a few more moments of quiet I look up, noticing Nancy and Jonathan gazing at each other with lingering eyes. A light smile crosses my face, as I know there is something special going on between them. I'm happy knowing both of my friends have found comfort in each other.
The doors to the station suddenly slam open, revealing Chief Hopper and Joyce, who rush inside with worried looks on their faces.
"Hey, Jonathan?" Joyce says, walking up to the three of us, noticing Jonathan's bruised face, "Jesus, what... what happened?"
"Ma'am..." The officer, Callahan grabs her attention, trying to calm her down.
"I'm fine..." Jonathan whispers quietly, looking down.
"Why is he wearing handcuffs?" Joyce asks accusingly as she points towards her son's hands.
"Well, your boy assaulted a police officer, that's why." Callahan says calmly to the woman, standing from his seat.
"Take them off." Joyce demands firmly.
"I am afraid I cannot do that." Callahan says again.
"Take them off!" Joyce cries, once again with a demanding tone.
"You heard her." Hopper says from behind Joyce, "Take 'em off."
"Chief," The other officer, Powell, pipes in finally, "I get everyone's emotional here, but there's something you need to see."
Hopper and the other officers march back into the station, and set our box of weapons and shit in front of us on the table. I look up nervous, only to be met with pointed looks in their eyes.
"What is this?" Joyce asks, looking in the box first.
"Why don't you ask your son?" Hopper says, staring at Jonathan, "We found it in his car."
"What?" Joyce says shocked.
"Why are you going through my car?" Jonathan mumbles annoyed.
"Is that really the question you should be asking right now?" Hopper asks, leaning down with a threatening look, "I wanna see you in my office.
"You won't believe me." Jonathan replies instantly.
"Why don't you give me a try." Hopper responds firmly.
The three of us make our way to Hopper's office where he and Joyce are waiting patiently. Jonathan hands Hopper the paper we'd been looking at the funeral.
Sitting in my seat, I can't help but fiddle with my fingers, unable to sit still in the tense situation. I notice Jonathan is also nervously biting his nails, while beside him, Nancy sits calmly, her gaze firmly fixed on the chief.
"You say blood draws this thing?" Hopper finally says, looking up at us.
"We don't know." I say, "It's just a theory."
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Jonathan, Nancy, and I sit patiently in Hopper's car, watching curiously as mysterious men enter Nancy's house. Coming back out, carrying boxes of items that they stuff into their own vehicles. With our bodies leaning out of the windows to get a good view of what's happening, I wonder what kind of things they're taking from that house. And if it could be related to the strange things that have been happening in the small town.
"I have to go home." Nancy says to Hopper as she steps out of the car desperately.
"No, you can't." Hopper replies, eyes still searching the scene in front of us with binoculars in hand.
"My mom... my dad are there." Nancy says firmly at the chief, clearly worried for her family.
"They're gonna be okay." Hopper responds simply bringing his binoculars down from his face.
Nancy starts walking towards her home, determination on her face, before Hopper grabs her arm.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey." He says to the girl.
"Let go." Nancy says attempting to shrug his hand off, "Let go!" She yells this time.
"Hey! Listen to me. Listen to me," Hopper says, turning Nancy towards him, "The last thing in the world we need is them knowing you're mixed up in all this." He's referring to her parents.
"Mike is over there—" Nancy gestures towards her house frantically.
"They haven't found him." Hopper replies, "Not yet, at least." He finishes, pointing to the helicopter flying in the sky.
"For Mike?" Nancy asks, her mouth wide open, in complete shock.
"Come on, get in the car." Hopper says, dragging her back to his car.
The two hop back into the car beside, Joyce, Jonathan and I, shutting the doors behind them.
"Look, we need to find them before they do." Hopper states, turning to us in the backseats, "Do you have any idea where he might have gone?" He asks.
"No, I don't." Nancy responds.
"I need you to think." Hopper says sharply.
"I don't know," Nancy responds again, "We haven't talked a lot, I mean lately..." She explains.
"Uh, I don't know where they are." I pipe in quietly from my spot beside Jonathan, making everyone turn toward me, "But I know how we can find out."
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Hopper, in record time, drives us to the Byer's home, where we hop out and run into the house. I immediately grab the radio flipping it on before speaking into it.
"Dustin? Mike? Guys? It's (Y/n), I need you guys to pick up. This is a code red. Please, pick up." I say quickly into the walkie-talkie, before Nancy snatches it from my hand.
"Mike? Are you there, Mike?" She says repeatedly into the mic, "Mike, it's me Nancy." I grab it back from her.
"Dustin, if you're there, we need you to answer." I say firmly, "This is an emergency, I repeat, an emergency." I say again before Hopper yanks the radio from my hand, bringing it up to his mouth.
"Listen kid, this is the chief. If you're there, pick up. We know you're in trouble and we know about the girl." He explains to the boys on the other end, "We can protect you, we can help you, but you gotta pick up. Are you there? Do you copy? Over."
The radio goes silent and Hopper sets the radio down on the table with a sigh.
"Anybody got any other ideas." Hopper asks, facing the group and we all look around unsure what to do.
"Yeah, I copy." We all hear through the radio, "It's Mike. I'm here. We're here."
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
We all sit in silence, nervously awaiting the arrival of the boys at the Byer's house. Unable to contain my anxiety, I bite my fingernails and bounce my legs restlessly. We strain our ears, as the minutes tick by, for even the slightest sound from outside. Finally, the sound of a car pulling up catches our attention, and we all stand up in one smooth motion. We rush out of the door to greet the arriving kids.
"Holy shit, Dust." I say quickly walking towards my brother as he gets out of the car, "I'm so glad you're okay." I immediately wrap my arms around him, squeezing him tight, letting out a relieved sigh.
Dustin reciprocates my hug, before I let him go. I notice Lucas and El behind us and rush over to give them hugs too. Lucas graciously accepts it while Eleven is a bit more hesitant but still manages to hug me. All the while Nancy is busy hugging a shocked looking Mike in front of us.
Nancy holds Mike's shoulders and looks back at El with a confused look on her face, "Is that my dress?"
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
"Okay, so in this example, we're the acrobat. Will and Barbra, and that monster, they're this flea." Mike explains to us, shaking us a drawing as we sit on the couch, "And this is the upside down, where Will is hiding. Mr. Clarke said the only way to get there is through a rip of time and space."
"A gate." Dustin states plainly.
"That we tracked to Hawkins Lab." Lucas adds.
"With our compasses." My brother says and we look at him confused.
"Wait, so the gate has a really strong electromagnetic field and that can basically change the directions of a compass needle...?" I say, trying to figure out what he's saying.
"Yeah, exactly," Dustin says happy to know someone else understands.
"Is this gate underground?" Hopper asks, leaning on the armrest of the chair.
"Yes." Eleven says simply, making us turn our heads in her direction.
"Near a large water tank?" Hopper asks the girl.
She nods, "Yes."
"How do you know all that?" Dustin asks Hopper confused.
"He's seen it." Mike realizes.
"Is there anyway that you could... that you could reach Will?" Joyce leans forward, desperate to find her son, "That you could talk to him in this—"
"The upside down." El finishes.
"Down. Yeah." Joyce whispers. Eleven nods in confirmation that she can find the boy we've all been searching for.
"And our friend Barbra?" Nancy asks hopefully, gesturing between me and her, "Can you find her too?"
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Setting the radio down, we turn it on, letting the static run, and place it by Eleven who sits at the end of the table. With everyone gathering around her, we turn off all the lights, leaving only the one directly above her. El closes her eyes and seems to be in some sort of trance, as we all anxiously wait for her to locate Will and Barbra by using her powers.
The light above the table flickers before El opens her eyes, "I'm sorry," She whispers sadly.
"W-What? What's wrong? What happened?" Joyce questions worriedly.
"I can't find them." Eleven says, tears forming in her eyes.
"Hey, it's okay." I say ushering the girl to the nearby bathroom, "I'll wait out here, okay?" She nods, before I walk back over to the group.
"Whenever she uses her powers, she gets weak." Mike explains.
"The more energy she uses, the more tired she gets." Dustin adds.
"Like she flipped the van earlier." Lucas says, and I stare at him with wide eyes.
"She flipped a van?" I ask proud of the girl.
"Yeah, it was awesome," My brother says excitedly.
"But she's drained." Mike continues, explaining to the rest of us.
"Like a bad battery." Dustin adds again.
"Well... How do we make her better?" Joyce stammers, trying to find a solution to our problem.
"We don't," Mike says, "We just have to wait and try again."
"Well, how long?" Nancy asks her brother.
"Yeah, we can't wait much longer." I say, thinking about even the possibility of Will and Barbra not making it out alive.
"I don't know." Mike says softly, looking down.
"The bath." Eleven whispers after emerging from the bathroom.
"What?" Joyce asks as we all turn to the girl.
"I can find them," El explains softly as we all look at each other in confusion.
"In the bath."
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
"Mr. Clarke? It's Dustin." My brother says into the phone after his teacher picks up.
We're now gathered around the telephone hanging on the wall, as Dustin calls his science teacher at ten o'clock at night.
"Yeah, yeah, I just I... I have a science question." Dustin stammers.
I look around nervously biting my lip, only to be met with everyone's gaze to be fixed on my brother in front of us.
"Do you know anything about sensory deprivation tanks?" Dustin asks simply, getting straight to the point, "Specifically how to build one?"
"You always say we should never stop being curious. To always open any curiosity door we find," Dustin explains to his teacher with urgency, "Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?"
With a gesture from Dustin and the snapping of his fingers, I quickly locate the nearest notepad and pencil, grabbing them and handing them to my brother. He sits down in a chair, still pressing the phone to his ear as he rapidly writes down information that Mr. Clarke is telling him.
"Uh-huh. Uh-huh, how much? Uh-huh. Yep, alright. Yeah, we'll be careful. Definitely. Alright, Mr. Clarke. Yeah, I'll see you on Monday. I'll see you on Monday, Mr. Clarke. Bye." Dustin finishes before abruptly hanging up on his poor oblivious teacher.
Dustin points the pencil in his hand directly at Joyce, "Do you still have that kiddie pool we bobbed for apples in?"
"I think so, yeah." Joyce replies confused.
"Yeah." Jonathan confirms quietly.
"Good. Then we just need salt. Lots of it." My brother says.
"How much is "lots"?" Hopper asks the boy.
Dustin looks down at his paper before replying, "1500 pounds."
"Holy shit." I breath out, looking around at the group's shocked faces before continuing.
"Where the hell are we going to get that much salt?"
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Turns out, the school has lots of salt.
We pull up to the school all shoved into two cars, before getting to work.
Everyone splits up to get the job done as quickly as possible. Mike, Dustin and Lucas go to set up the kiddie pool, while Jonathan and Hopper go find the salt. Joyce and Eleven look for a cover for her eyes, and Nancy and I head for a shed, with the intention of grabbing hoses to fill the pool.
"Hey (Y/n)?" Nancy asks hesitantly as we haul the hoses and supplies back to the school.
"Hm?" I say, not turning my attention away from the walk ahead of us.
"Do you... do you think Steve is an asshole for what he did?" She asks finally, turning her head towards me.
I scoff as we approach the school and begin the process of screwing in the hoses, getting them started as they fill up the pool.
"He's been a real asshole lately, Nance." I say, glancing towards her, "I don't even get why you're still with him.”
"But you like him." She states simply.
"W-What?" I reply, heat rising to my cheeks, "No."
"Don't lie (Y/n), I see the way you look at him." She looks at me with a soft smile, "I've always been jealous..." She admits, glancing at me sheepishly.
"Colder!!" We hear Lucas yell from the gymnasium and I turn the knob to the cold side before responding to Nancy.
"What, why?"
Seeing my confusion, Nancy sighs before explaining, "Because Steve talks about you like you're his whole world. Everywhere we are, he looks for you. Every time someone walks into the room, he not so subtly glances up, hoping to see your face.
"Warmer!!" Lucas yells.
I turn the knob.
"He's so infatuated by you and you don't even notice." Nancy finishes with a sigh, "He might not even know himself, but you two are so oblivious in lo—"
"No. No, we're not, Nance." I cut her off sharply, "He loves you."
"Right there!!" Lucas yells finally confirming we've found the right spot.
"But Jonathan..." Nancy mumbles to herself, clearly not meaning for me to hear.
"You like Jonathan?" I ask, a soft smile making it's way to my face. As we make our way into the gym.
"What?" Nancy blushes slightly, "No, it's not like that. We're just friends." She explains quickly.
"Now, where have I heard that one before?" I ask with a small smirk as we approach the bath and all becomes serious.
We all watch in silence as Eleven strips off her green and yellow socks and hands Mike's watch back to him.
She looks nervous.
I walk over to her, placing my hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, you're a brave girl," I whisper, rubbing her shoulder reassuringly and she nods with a smile, "You got this."
She then places the duck-taped goggles over her face and sighs before Hopper and a Joyce guide her into the pool.
Here goes nothing.

OK I'm really desperate to find this fiction because I was partially through reading it when my computer freaked out and I lost it.
It starts pre season 1 Steve is walking home when a demogorgon pulls him into the upside down. He survives on his own for months because no one realizes he's missing. Tommy and Carol think he's in a boarding school in Europe with his parents, and his parents assume he's home and don't care. Hop was keeping an eye on him but assumed he calmed the partying.
Will gets pulled into Upside Down and Steve saves him. The survive taking care of each other and it's only because of Joyce that everyone realizes Steve has literally been barely surviving for months.
When I lost it will and the party were at the school and Joyce and Hop went to the lab to get Steve out of Upside Down. Will blames Nancy for Steve being left behind.
One major scene I remember is Tommy and Carol throwing a Halloween party in Steve's empty house as payback for him ditching them. Layer Tommy comes to his senses and files a missing persons report on Steve, which Callahan neglects to investigate.
I'm really desperate and need to know what happens. It had 35 chapters and part of a series!
Request 1142! Send us an ask if you recognize this fic!

Hi!! HUGE fan of “even the stars (are taking aim)” here (very patiently waiting for the next chapter to drop😌🙏) and figured I may as well try out this prompt thing:
Eddie and Chrissy having their first Big Damn Kiss in a rainstorm, someplace where no one can see them, maybe after some kind of argument so they’re already passionate. I’d love to see what you create from this decently cliched premise😊✨
omg, thank you so much! 🥹 every star in the sky was updated on Tuesday!! and I'm hoping to be back to a semi-regular update schedule. however:
🌧️🌧️
He shouldn't be pissed.
He shouldn't be pissed.
He shouldn't be pissed.
(He was fucking fuming.)
Because it was August. The absolute tail end of the last summer he would ever spend in Hawkins, Indiana if he had fuck all to say about it. Because this was the absolute last goddamn high school-adjacent party he would ever be posted up at as a dealer, selling the bottom of his stash's barrel and high-tailing it the fuck outta here in four days.
Because he'd spent the last eight months falling into a weird, incredible friendship with Chrissy Cunningham and convincing her she was actually fucking worth something more than her mother let her believe, getting her to break up with her shitty boyfriend and start the process of reclaiming her life, only for her to show up at this stupid party on Jason Carver's arm.
She'd dumped him in March. Before spring break. Yet here she was, tucked under his ugly-ass letterman sleeve as she nursed the same red solo cup the entire night, and it made him want to fucking barf.
Eddie rolled his neck. Tucking another cigarette between his lips as he cranked up the prices of his product out of sheer spite. Taking advantage of the hazy stupor and fading into the background.
Chrissy tried to get his attention. More than once. He just ignored her.
What the fuck else was he supposed to do? Watching her intentionally go back to that asshole wasn't really something he'd even thought was a possibility. So why would he have prepared himself for the blow?
He just didn't think it'd hurt so fucking much.
Finally, after about midnight, he was officially sold out. Out of the game entirely. He snapped his box of tricks closed, protecting the crinkled pack of cigarettes from the summer rainstorm he could see pelting the porch screens. He didn't bother bidding anyone goodnight.
The one person he thought would care was too busy flashing the fakest fucking smile she had in her arsenal at that blond jockstrap.
Whatever. Screw it. Who cared? A year from now, he'd be so far removed from all this bullshit that it wouldn't even cross his mind.
(Even if that thought currently made him want to puke up his guts and choke on them.)
Uncaring of who he hit on his way out, Eddie slipped out the front door after smashing into a few angry shoulders. The shouts of indignation at his back may as well have been whispers for how much of them he heard, bowling his way into the warm rain and rushing toward his van.
He always parked hidden away from these events. Ever since Hopper decided to be happy and move to California with Joyce Byers and company, the P.D. had it especially out for Eddie. Giving Callahan a reason to crash a party would have him on way too many shit-lists to count.
Which was normally fine. Except right now. Soaked through by the rain and barely halfway to his stupid fucking sanctuary.
"Eddie!"
Christ.
Her voice still made him stop in his tracks. Shoulders heaving, spine straightening like someone suddenly jammed a rod down it.
Why did it hurt so much?
Turning, he tried to keep his expression as even as possible as he looked at her. Drenched from the stupid water falling from the stupid sky, her hair was already a mess plastered to her skin as she did her best to protect herself from the onslaught.
Too bad Eddie had already been caught in the metaphorical crossfire.
"What, Cunningham?" he asked, giving her obvious pause as she blinked up at him. He'd never been so harsh with her.
He didn't even know why he was being so harsh with her.
(Yes he did.)
"I-I just..." she started, holding an arm over her eyes so she could look up at him. They were standing in the spotlight of a streetlamp, the only thing illuminated in the entire world, and that anger still oozed from him like a bad infection. Festering too close to the surface to remain covered. Like the rain was washing it out, bringing it forward. "You–– You didn't, um, say hi, and you––"
"Okay?" He shrugged. "So, what, I'm legally required to exchange pleasantries with you every time I see you?"
"No, of course not, just––"
"Honestly, kid, I just wanna go home," he said before she could continue. Backing up a step. "Been nice, y'know, being friendly and all, but––" Coming to an immediate halt when one of her dainty little hands darted out and fisted in the wet fabric of his t-shirt.
"Eddie, you're being mean," she stated, her voice hard. Something she learned from him, he knew. Saying things, pointing out when people were being unfair instead of just writing welcome across her forehead and lying down for someone to be shitty to her. "And I–– I know this is about Jason, okay, but you didn't even let me explain––"
"Explain what, Cunningham?" he nearly shouted. "Because, honestly, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you'd willingly find yourself trapped under the weight of that jerk wad's arm."
"Because I need to be!" Chrissy really did shout, shaking her fist in his shirt for emphasis. The other was fisted against her own abdomen. Letting those mascara streaks fall down her cheeks like tear tracks.
Eddie scoffed. "Oh, you need to be? Excuse me, princess, didn't realize you needed him so much!"
"I don't––"
"Could've fucking fooled me, honestly!"
"I don't need him, Eddie! I just need to play her game for three more days and then––"
But she didn't finish her thought.
Instead, before he could even process what was happening, she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and surged up onto her toes, pressing her lips clumsily against his.
Oh, Jesus Christ.
Eddie didn't think. Didn't fucking breathe. He just groaned, cupping her jaw in his hands and kissing her like his fucking life depended on it.
She tasted like rainwater and watermelon lipgloss and the fucking sunrise breaking past the clouds, basking him in her light and warming him against the rain. They moved together, a dance of lips and tongue, her little mewl of pleasure rolling down his spine as he greedily drank in every piece of her she was allowing him.
Shit. Shit. This was gonna hurt, wasn't it?
They fell apart, both of them pulling in air like they'd forgotten they had lungs, and Eddie let his forehead drop against hers. Holding her for however long he was allowed, how ever long she gave him.
"I don't need him," she whispered again, her voice near enough that it was like he could finally hear her. "I'm not even with him. It's just... It's just until I get my college fund, and then..."
"Does he know that?" Eddie asked, hating the vehemence in his own tone.
"Yes, Eddie," she assured him. "He's not as bad of a guy as you want to believe, you know." Her hands came up, wrapping around his wrists as she looked up at him. Blinking into the rain, she gave him a real, actual smile. One of those little ones he kinda hoped was reserved just for him. "He knows how I..."
She shook her head, then blew his fucking mind when she pushed up enough to kiss him again.
"I need you," she informed him. And Eddie could see her opening the little doorway into his chest and reaching in to pull his heart out. Though whether she was doing that now or eight fucking months ago was impossible to say. "I want you and I need you."
Oh, he was gonna explode. Poof into a million little bits, covering her in heart-shaped blood and viscera.
"Only if you need me, too, though," she finished when his fucking voice box wouldn't work.
He kissed her again. An emphasis to a point he couldn't verbally make. And she melted against him like it was everything she needed, everything she'd been craving alongside him for the last eight months.
"Christ, sweetness, I think I'm already in love with you," he laughed, the sound wet around the rain still falling around them.
"Oh," she breathed, looking up at him, her eyes so fucking bright in that subtle streetlamp light that he wanted to claw his way out of his own skin and use it as an umbrella for her. "Oh, that's good."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Because, um, I was hoping you'd have room for two in that van of yours come Wednesday." She grinned. "Should have all my stuff sorted out by then."
Eddie laughed again, bright and loud, letting the rain wash away all that gross upset so he could lift her by the waist and spin her around. She screamed in delight, arms around his shoulders, and he stopped and held her steadily above him so she could bring her lips down to his once more.
"I've got all the room in the fucking world for you, baby."

@greenfiend Thanks to your loverslakegate I noticed another connection between Will, El and Hopper. The horseshoes!
Many people have noticed the horseshoe on the Byers' shed. Interestingly, we only see it in scenes Hopper is in. This horseshoe is upside down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upside down, like the horseshoes/lucky charms (+ rainbow!) El sees in S3
Tumblr media
But it's when I noticed the blue and yellow sheets on Hopper's bed for loverslakegate that I saw this horseshoe!
Tumblr media
We see it after he argues with Joyce (while they're separated by the curtain, hm). Next to her, Sarah's photo...
Tumblr media
But imo, the most interesting thing is what happens in the shed in S1.
Hopper touches one of the hooks, but when the light goes out, he's touching the other one. Considering all the subtle clues in the show, I don't think this is a production error.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the light goes out, he sees what looks like a little fort. It reminds me of Castle Byers, El's "fort" in Mike's basement, and a shot in S2, in the scene in which Will tells Mike that he feels like he's stuck between two slides.
I wonder what it means. Someone used to hide there? Hopper sees another timeline/remembers something, because of the tear the Demogorgon opened in the shed?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, Hopper is clearly looking at the same wall where Brenner finds the pink goo. Why didn't Hopper notice anything?
There are two similar scenes, two men looking at the same wall, but only Brenner sees the goo? That's sus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Callahan says that he was calling Hopper, but we didn't hear anything. Maybe because Hopper was focused on the wall. Or maybe it's because, for a moment, he was really seeing/remembering another timeline. The truth behind the curtain
