Red Sox from Joybound in Walnut Creek, California
Click here for more information about adoption and other ways to help!
Red Sox is a beautiful queen of a cat who knows what she wants and when she wants it! She enjoys pets and affection, but she also has no qualms about communicating when she needs space. She is sharp witted and can be quite playful with wand toys, but she also enjoys the simple pleasure of lounging around and being near her people. Food and treats are the way to this girl’s heart – she just needs someone who will be patient and work with her diva tendencies around them. This sweet gal is patiently waiting, as a proper lady would, to find a cat-savvy adopter who will work with her quirks – she is more than worth it!

(Walnut Creek, California) Meet Yeung Yeung, an adorable white male rabbit who is about 7 years old. He is the perfect house guest—tidy, mellow, curious, and perfectly litter box trained. He adores people and can't get enough petting and attention from you. He even comes when he's called, just like a dog! Yeung Yeung is a rabbit who is full of joy. He'll show you just how happy he is to be in a loving home by showing off his impressive zoomies and binkies multiple times a day. Although he plays hard, he naps even harder and will fall into a deep sleep next to you, showing just how quick he is to trust humans. For such a playful rabbit, he is surprisingly non-destructive and is not at all tempted to chew things he isn't supposed to. Sadly, someone in Yeung Yeung’s family developed a serious allergy so they are looking to find their beloved rabbit a new home. They’re very sad they have to give him away, but they’re hopeful that his future adopter will love him just as much as they have! They’re looking for a kind family who will give Yeung Yeung the attention he needs and space to binky to his heart's content. He's adorable! If you’re interested in adopting Yeung Yeung, reach out to Michael at [email protected]. There is a small rehoming fee for the equipment and food only.

Mount Diablo (CA)
24 March 2023

We’re in the middle of two weeks in San Francisco (we were also here in mid-February). Most of my rides have been relatively short excursions from where we’re staying near Lake Merced, but today I took a day off from my other responsibilities and took on a much more ambitious route. Mount Diablo is one the top rides in the Bay Area and one of the most popular climbs in California (although there are many, many others).

I drove to Walnut Creek and parked at Heather Farm Park, from which I could see Diablo to the southeast. The first ten miles, from Walnut Creek to Danville, was on the Iron Horse Regional Trail. A construction closure on the Diablo Road required me to take a longer route via Sycamore Valley Road, Camino Tassajara, and Blackhawk Road. I’d guess it added 4-5 miles, but relatively easy ones, since the real climbing doesn’t start until you reach South Gate Road.

But then it doesn’t really stop climbing for 3000’. There were almost as many bikes as cars, which meant the riding was relatively stress-free, but that did not make it any less relentless. There’s an opportunity for a break at the junction (mile 34) and I noted that some of the folks who’d passed me earlier turned around here. But the best part is the top part (except perhaps for the very steep final 100 meters as you reach the top).

The views from the top were great and there’s even a small gift shop, in case one needs souvenir stickers and an ice cream sandwich. The ride down was wonderful: 3500’ of descent in 10 miles, followed by a few miles of easy riding on residential streets.

Scooter Pie from Community Concern for Cats in Walnut Creek, California
Click here for more information about adoption and other ways to help!
Click here for a link to Community Concern for Cats' main website.
Born in May 2009, this stunning boy was rescued from a hoarding situation after his human died. He was living in terribly filthy conditions, with nowhere to go. A neighbor who adopted a cat from Community Concern for Cats reached out for help so that Scooter Pie would not be placed outside, after living his entire life indoors.
Despite his sad background, Scooter Pie has shown that he is resilient and open to a fresh start. He is a bit shy at first, but he is comfortable being picked up and cuddled, and will show you his appreciation by purring and kneading. He is soft and sweet, and just look at his amazing, mesmerizing green eyes and heart-shaped nose!
Scooter Pie is 15-years-old, so he is a senior cat. This may discourage adopters, but he may have several years of love left to give. The fact is that none of us (human and feline) knows how many years we will live, and we all deserve happiness no matter how much time that is.
This sweet senior is used to human companionship and deserves to live out his golden years showered with love and affection, which he will happily reciprocate. Scooter Pie has not lived with other animals, so would do best as an only pet, and he must live indoors only.
