Truth Be Told (an Olicity fic)
Summary: Agent Oliver Queen is prepared to take down Helix and its leader, Cayden James. What he isn't prepared for is the tiny, blonde hacker who's only crime, in his opinion, is stealing his heart.
A/N: This was written for the Olicity Clue challenge. My prompts were: computer, bunker, Cayden James. Can you guess where the title is from ;)
###
“Jonas!”
Oliver’s spine tingled as the name ricocheted off the walls of Helix’s underground bunker. It was a tight space made exclusively of concrete and metal, so the sound traveled louder and further than it would have in, say, a normal room. Not to mention she was using her loud voice again.
He turned, placing the weapon he’d been cleaning back on the table, and saw her walking toward him at a fast clip, her tablet held in one hand, ponytail swinging.
“I thought I said no guns? And yet—” She came to a stop a few feet away, one eyebrow raised. “I have this requisition form for guns.”
She leaned to the right, looking at the table behind him where Rene and Diggle were helping him get everything ready.
“Yeah, well, we need guns for this one.” He shrugged, then turned back to finish putting his weapon back together.
He could feel her angry glare burning a hole in the back of his head, but he ignored it. He couldn’t let her distract him tonight. That seemed to piss her off even more.
“You’re standing in, literally, the most technologically advanced base in probably the world and you need guns to get things done?”
“What would you like me to do, Felicity?” he growled, clicking the magazine into place. “Throw a computer at them?”
She exhaled loudly. “I don’t know why you have to engage anyone at all. I can get you in—“
“Not this time.”
He turned just in time to see her jaw clench. She didn’t like that answer.
Stepping closer, she lowered her voice. “You're going up against guards who are just doing their jobs. Not to mention they could shoot back. You could—“
She snapped her mouth shut, but he could see the concern in her eyes.
Felicity Smoak had a good heart. He honestly had no idea how she’d ended up working for a terrorist group like Helix. He was sure Caden James had tricked her somehow. Just another reason to take that bastard down.
Tonight.
Caden James—Helix—was going down tonight.
A wave of fresh nerves skated through him as he looked down at Felicity. She’d go down with them.
He’d been fighting the urge to clue her in ever since Lyla had okayed his plan, but even if he did, even if she ran, ARGUS already knew who she was. She’d be a fugitive. No, he had to let things play out. Once everyone was safely in custody, then he could talk to Lyla about getting her a deal. If, that was, she would even speak to him after tonight.
As he looked at her, the tiny crease between her forehead deepened and she reached out, placing a hand on his forearm. “Jonas? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” he said, giving her hand a quick squeeze before stepping back. “Just need tonight to go well, is all.”
“It will,” she said without hesitation. “I believe in you. And if you say you need guns… Just be careful.”
It took every bit of self discipline he had not to pull her into a private room and confess everything. To not tell her he was an undercover plant, an ARGUS agent tasked with taking down James and his whole operation.
To not tell her he was already half in love with her.
He hadn’t meant to fall for her. He hadn’t even considered anything like that in a long time. But there was just something about her. She’d blindsided him and, for the first time in years, he felt like maybe there was more to life than just the next mission. Which was… unfortunate, considering she was one of Helix’s top hackers. A brilliant, beautiful woman who didn’t belong down here in this bunker, overseeing missions to steal data and computer parts and whatever else Caden James demanded of her.
He really hoped she wasn’t aware of what James was after tonight. He suspected she wasn’t, considering how concerned she was for the innocent guards they would be accosting.
Except they wouldn’t be, of course. ARGUS agents had already taken over the guard detail at the facility they were headed to tonight. Oliver and his small team of inside men had done their part, switching out the ammo in Helix’s small armory for blanks. By the time James knew he’d been double crossed it would be too late.
Two of his men, Rene and Curtis, were staying back at the Helix bunker to help round up James’ team of hackers and cyber criminals. Rene, like Oliver, was just a hired gun in Helix’s eyes, but Curtis was a computer engineer. It was his job to make sure Lyla’s team of agents could get past security when the time came. He had no doubt his men could handle it, but his nerves still fluttered worriedly.
“I’ll be careful,” he said lowly, meeting Felicity’s blue gaze. “We need to get going, though. Mr. James is waiting.”
She looked like she wanted to say something, but she bit her lip, nodding instead.
God, he really hoped she wouldn’t hate him after tonight.
###
Rushing out of the van, gun in hand, men at his back, Oliver felt that familiar surge of adrenaline pumping through his veins.
He’d done a dozen of these missions in his time at ARGUS. He was no stranger to standing between a bad man and his really bad idea. In Caden James’ case, that bad idea involved corrupting the safety systems at the nuclear power plant outside of Starling City.
He’d been briefed on James, a computer genius who’d fallen to the dark side after his son had been murdered. Personally, he didn’t care about the guy’s sob story, just about making sure he didn’t take down any innocent bystanders in his quest for revenge.
His mind flickered to Felicity, imagining how she’d react in just a few minutes when ARGUS stormed the bunker. He tried to shake it off, refocus on the mission as James led them up the gates of the facility.
His comm crackled a split second before her voice filled his ear.
“Jonas?”
He slowed his pace, just enough to not be heard by the others. “Felicity? What is it?”
“I know you guys have Alena with you and she’s good, she knows what she’s doing, but after you left I couldn’t shake this feeling that something was wrong, you know? So I did a scan of the power plant, just to see—“
“Felicity!”
“Right,” she said, reeling herself in from her babble and getting to the point. “There’s a lot of heat signatures coming from inside the building, Jonas. Like, a lot. The plant’s schedule says there should only be about five guards on duty, but there’s almost triple that.”
Of course there were, because Lyla and a whole team full of agents were inside, waiting on Oliver’s signal.
“I’ll take care of it,” he said into his comm as John Diggle, one of Oliver’s men and ARGUS Director Lyla Michaels’ husband, quietly took out the guard at the gate.
It was just for show. The guard was an ARGUS agent, but John made it look good and Caden James and his men didn’t question it. Once the gate was clear, they began moving towards the facility, right for the side door James had pointed out when they’d planned the infiltration. The same side door Oliver had informed Lyla they’d be coming through.
“Jonas!”
This time her voice was more urgent.
“Talk to me.”
He said it, but he really wished she’d stop talking to him. He didn’t need her on the comms when this all went down. Didn’t want to hear how she reacted when—
“The heat signatures are moving towards your location. I don’t see any tripped alarms and Alena already looped the security cameras so I don’t know how they know you’re there, but they do.”
“I’ll handle it, Felicity. Keep the comms clear.”
She didn’t say anything for a long moment and he hoped she’d listened to him, but then, just as James went to work on the electronic locks, his comm crackled again.
“Let me help. Please.”
It was all she said, but he didn’t need to hear anymore. He could hear enough in her tone, the concern that washed over him in ways he wanted to ignore, but couldn’t. Because he was just as concerned for what was about to happen to her.
As James finished with the lock, popping the doors open, Oliver knew with a terrifying clarity that, whatever happened tonight, he had very likely ruined any chance he ever had with Felicity Smoak.
“I’m sorry.”
It was all he could give her.
With a signal, Oliver ordered John through the doors, right to where Lyla and her team were waiting for them. James and his men went next, with Oliver taking up the rear. As soon as they’d made it into the hallway, ARGUS agents flooded in from around a corner, guns drawn.
“Jonas!”
The fear in her voice gutted him, but he pushed through, raising his own gun along with James’ men.
“Caden James,” Lyla said, stepping forward confidently like the unflappable agent Oliver knew her to be. “You’re under arrest. If you lower your weapons and surrender this will go a lot easier for you.”
“And who are you with? FBI? CIA? It doesn’t matter, I suppose.” James smiled calmly, gesturing to Oliver and the other men. “I don't think my men are the surrendering type.”
With that, James took a step back towards the doors, and all but Oliver and John began to fire on ARGUS. Or, they would have if Oliver’s team hadn’t switched out their ammo. The men stared at the guns, the first signs of panic setting in. Alena, James’ right hand woman, plastered herself to the wall, looking like she wanted to vomit.
“What are you idiots doing?” James demanded, taking another step back, right towards Oliver. “Shoot them!”
“They can’t,” Lyla informed him, a smug smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “For a genius, you’re kind of slow on the uptake, aren’t you?”
James took another step back, right into the barrel of Oliver’s gun. One of two that had actual bullets in it.
“Wha—?”
“Hands above your head,” Oliver ordered, pressing the barrel deeper into his spine until the man had no choice but to comply.
James bit back a reply, instead doing as he was told and avoiding the show of force Oliver was itching to let loose on someone, because Felicity? Well, Felicity was a lot faster at putting two and two together than her boss was.
“You were working against us this whole time?” Her voice wavered as he wrenched James’ hands behind his back, securing them with zip ties. “How could yo—Ahh!”
Loud shouting came over Felicity’s comm and then it went dead, leaving Oliver to wonder—worry—about what was happening back at the bunker. As he led James out to the ARGUS transport vans outside, he wondered if someone was doing the same to Felicity. If she was okay. If anyone hurt her he’d…
He wasn’t sure what he’d do, but he was pretty sure he’d get suspended for it.
###
It took three hours to get all of Helix transported back to ARGUS headquarters and into detainment.
Three hours of absolute hell.
All Oliver could hear was Felicity’s betrayed voice in his head. Her strangled scream as ARGUS agents stormed the Helix bunker to arrest her. He could barely even concentrate as he and his team were debriefed by Lyla. He’d asked Rene and Curtis about her as soon as they’d made it back. Their matching smirks normally would have embarrassed him—or pissed him off—but at the time he hadn’t cared. He just needed to know she was alright.
“We took care of her, hoss, don’t worry. Let her ride in the back of our car instead of with the others. She wasn’t very happy with any of us, but she’s fine.”
He hadn’t been able to do much more than shoot them a grateful nod before Lyla had called them into be debriefed. But now, as he stood just outside the interrogation room door, he knew that those three hours weren’t hell. This was. Watching her through the glass as she sat so stiffly, her wrists chained to the table. Her eyes were closed, but even from the hallway he could make out the mascara streaked across her cheeks.
She’d been crying.
And now he had to go speak to her. To tell her everything she believed in was a lie. That the man she’d trusted had been playing her the whole time. He had to look her in the eyes and see the betrayal on her face.
He could get Diggle to do it. In all honesty, he should get Diggle to do it. John Diggle was a good man and Oliver trusted him with Felicity, but he knew that any chance he had of her forgiveness, it began and ended in this interrogation room.
He opened the door.
Her eyes snapped open and, as they met his, the startled fear morphed into disdain in an instant.
His gut rolled.
“You must have questions.”
She tilted her head. “Shouldn’t you be the one with questions? This is supposed to be an interrogation, right?”
She lifted her hands, rattling the chain that bound them. It felt like an accusation and he supposed it was.
“Felicity…”
She shook her head, refusing his pleading tone as he murmured her name. “You were ARGUS this whole time. I trusted you! I—“ She sucked in a breath, leaving her unfinished sentence to float between them, haunting him. “I don’t even know your real name.”
“It’s Oliver. Jonas is my middle name.”
“Oliver.” She closed her eyes briefly. “I know we weren’t doing the most legal things at Helix, but we were trying to help people.”
“Caden James planned to break into and hack a nuclear power plant.”
“Yes,” Felicity argued. “But only to show them how easily their security could be compromised. He was never going to—“
“Felicity…”
She took one look at his face and paled. “No. No, you’re wrong.”
“He contacted the mayor of Starling City two days ago, demanding the release of a prisoner named Ricardo Diaz. Diaz supposedly has some insight into the man who killed James’ son earlier this year.”
“No,” she said again, pressing her lips tightly together and staring at her bound hands.
“He planned to hack the facility and use it as leverage to secure Diaz’s release. Helix was only ever a means to an end, a way to secure knowledge and power. Not to mention money. But after his son was killed, James got sloppy.”
“And that’s where you came in?”
Her tone was sharp, eyes bright and filled with tears. If he’d ever even considered the possibility that she’d known what James was up to, that single look would have proved him wrong.
“That’s where I came in,” he agreed. He’d joined Helix as a mercenary-for-hire soon after and he’d been gathering evidence against James ever since. “Caden James used you, Felicity.”
“Oh, and you didn’t?” She scoffed and shot him a glare.
“He recruited brilliant minds who could easily disappear into his organization,” he went on, ignoring her. “Told you you were doing good deeds, fighting corruption. He used your convictions and morality against you—“
“You used me!”
Her shout echoed around the small room, bouncing off the two way mirror behind him.
“I lied to you,” he admitted, his heart in his throat. “But I never used you. I never manipulated you the way he did.” Oliver lowered his voice, even though he knew no one was listening in. That would come later. For now, it was just the two of them. “And I never, ever thought you were like him.”
She didn’t say anything, but her eyes were still welling and her lips trembled just slightly. Her jaw was tense, as if she were desperately trying to hold another outburst inside.
“Tell me you didn’t know.”
“I didn’t know,” she said, looking down into her lap as her tears spilled down her cheeks. “I didn’t know that both of you were liars.”
His heart cracked in half at that, but he tried to take it in stride. He nodded, then stepped closer. “Someone will be down in a few minutes to ask you some questions.”
Her eyes snapped to his, looking more nervous than angry for the first time since he entered the room.
“It’ll be okay,” he promised. “Just tell the truth.”
She glanced back down at her hands. “That’s ironic.”
He wanted to reach for her, to comfort her in some small way, but he knew it wasn’t wanted. It certainly wasn’t appropriate. He really shouldn’t have even been down here if he wasn’t going to question her, but he just… couldn’t. She wouldn’t cooperate with him and he knew he couldn’t be as disciplined an agent as he needed to be with her. If ARGUS was going to cut her a deal like he was hoping they would, they’d need someone unbiased leading the investigation into her role with Helix. And that wasn’t him.
As hard as it was, he turned to leave, hoping that Lyla would see in her what he did. A brilliant young woman who put her trust in the wrong man and got burnt.
###
Nearly a week after he left Felicity in that interrogation room, Lyla called Oliver into her office.
His stomach had tied in knots when he’d received the message. He hadn’t been able to get much information out of her, but he knew it was Helix related.
After the bust, things had died down quickly. Caden James was high profile and ARGUS brass wanted things kept quiet until they figured out what to do with him. He’d struggled to even get information on Felicity the past few days. All he knew was she had been questioned multiple times by multiple agents, just like the rest of Helix.
He pushed into Lyla’s office, hoping this meeting was about her plans for the prisoners, specifically Felicity.
“Oliver,” Lyla greeted, sitting behind her desk. Diggle was leaning against a bookshelf behind her and he threw Oliver a nod.
“Lyla. John.” He stood in front of Lyla’s desk, hands folded behind his back. “You wanted to see me?”
She leaned forward, spinning her monitor so Oliver could see the screen. A dossier on Felicity was open, displaying a photo taken while they’d been gathering information on Helix. It was just a normal surveillance photo, an image of Felicity on her way to get lunch or coffee. It made his heart ache all the same.
“I wanted to get your opinion on Felicity Smoak. John says you two were… close during your time with Helix.”
Oliver shot a look at Diggle, but the man only shrugged.
“We were friendly.” Which wasn’t a lie. Nothing inappropriate had happened between them. “I think she joined Helix with good intentions and, given the chance, she’d be a valuable asset.”
Lyla’s brows lifted at that. “You think I should recruit her?”
“I think she was manipulated by James and doesn’t deserve to be sent to prison when all she wanted to do was help people.”
Lyla watched him silently, then turned to share a quick look with Diggle. She flipped her monitor back around and sat back in her chair.
“That’s exactly the conclusion I came to after speaking to her.”
Oliver felt the air rush out of him in a relieved sigh, but other than that he tried not to react as Lyla went on.
“I think she’ll be open to a probationary position with ARGUS. It’s better than the few years in Iron Heights she’d get with all the evidence we have against her. Johnny” —she glanced back at her husband with a small smile— “thought you might want to be the one to tell her.”
Oliver’s we’ll practiced mask finally cracked and he blinked at Lyla, then stuttered, “M-Me? No. I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Alright,” Lyla said, shooting him a strange look. “I thought you might have an easier time convincing her given that you were close, but I’ll talk to her.”
Oliver nodded, ridgedly.
Diggle stepped forward, placing a hand on his shoulder. “I’ll walk you out.”
Once they were in the hallway, Diggle turned to him, but Oliver beat him to it.
“She hates me, Dig. You send me in and she’ll choose prison.”
Diggle snorted. “Felicity is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. She wouldn’t choose prison, no matter how angry she is with you.”
He conceded the point. Felicity was too smart for that. But still… “I don’t know how to face her.”
“Well, you’ll have to figure it out if she’s gonna be working with us.” Diggle reached out, patting Oliver’s shoulder. “Look, man. She’s feeling betrayed and lied to right now. Give her a little time, she’ll come around.”
Oliver wasn’t so sure, but he nodded anyway.
###
It took him a few days to build up the courage to go see her.
Felicity had, understandably, jumped at Lyla’s offer of a probationary position within ARGUS. From what he’d heard from Diggle and Curtis, her first couple days had gone smoothly. He’d wanted to go see her, even found himself on her floor a few times, but so far had never been brave enough to stop by her desk.
On the fourth day Oliver decided he was done avoiding her. After stopping off at the cafe down the block, he took the elevator up to her floor, coffees in hand. He knew she shared an office with a few other techs, so he was surprised when he stepped inside to find her alone. But not so surprised to find her wholly fixated by the string of code on her computer screen, a red pen dangling from between her lips. It was a sight he’d become used to during his time at Helix.
He cleared his throat.
Startled, the pen fell to her desk and she spun to see him standing awkwardly in the doorway. “Jo— Oliver! Hi.”
“Hi.”
He took a step closer and she scrambled from her seat, meeting him halfway.
“Did you need something? Because everyone’s at lunch and, technically, I’m on probation so I’m not really supposed to be doing anything without supervision which is just—“ She shook her head, then glanced down at his hands, seeming to notice the coffee he was carrying. “Is that for me?”
She seemed excited at the idea that he’d brought her coffee, so he quickly held it out. “Yeah. I know you’re usually always looking for coffee by lunch so…”
She met his gaze, eyes wide and shining in a way that took his breath away. “My hero,” she teased, taking the cup from him.
“How are you?” he choked out as she took a long sip.
“Good. You know, as good as one can be after finding out the secret organization they worked for was actually the bad guys, then joining another secret organization that’s supposedly the good guys, but how am I supposed to really know, you know?” She ran her free hand over her head, smoothing back her ponytail. “God, I feel like Sydney Bristow. Except I don’t know if I could pull off those awesome wigs she always wore. Do spies actually wear wigs?”
Oliver smiled, glad to know she was still herself after everything, babbles and all.
“Not in my experience.”
“That’s too bad,” she said, taking another sip of coffee, then leaning back against one of her coworker’s desks. She worried her bottom lip between her teeth for a moment, before meeting his eyes. “I want to apologize. For what I said to you—“
Oliver waved her off. “Don’t worry about it.”
“No, I’ve been thinking about it ever since and… I was hurt. And confused.” She ducked her head. “And pretty scared, honestly.”
He stepped closer, tentatively reaching for her hand. When she didn’t pull away, he wrapped his fingers around hers, giving them a squeeze. “I wanted to tell you. I should have told you.”
“I understand why you couldn’t,” she said with a shake of her head. “I was working with, well, basically terrorists. You had no way of knowing I wasn’t one of them.”
“I knew.” He hoped she could hear the conviction in his voice, see it in his eyes. “And I should have told you.”
Her mouth rounded into a small, surprised circle, as she stared up at him. He squeezed her hand again, shooting her a small smile that she quickly returned.
“You know,” she drawled, biting her lip and stepping closer, their hands still clasped together tightly. “One of the reasons I was so angry with you was because I thought… I thought you were using the way I felt about you against me.”
“The way you felt?” He could barely breathe.
“Mmhm.”
She stepped closer, right up against him.
“Felicity…”
Her eyes slipped shut. “And then you say my name like that and I think I don’t know anything at all.”
She opened her eyes, gazing up at him, and he couldn’t help himself. He reached for her, hands skimming along her waist, leaning down just as she pressed up on her toes—
The elevator dinged and the boisterous sound of her coworkers returning from lunch echoed through the halls.
They pulled apart, Felicity looking adorably embarrassed as the other techs piled back into the room, discussing some tv show or something. Oliver glared at them, frustrated at the interruption, and they all gave him a wide berth as they went back to their desks.
Oliver gestured towards the empty hallway and she shot him a smile, following his lead.
“Have you had lunch?” he asked, watching as she picked at the cardboard sleeve circling her coffee cup.
“No.” She spun, walking backwards in front of him, towards the elevator, a blinding smile lighting her face. “But I could eat.”

He is the last Cleirigh with their pure mark, which is rounding out nearly 900 years. However, Garrett doesn’t see himself as spoiled, less intelligent or reckless. He sets goals, impossible or not, and goes for them. He thinks outside of the box and does everything in his means to get what he wants.

Ronan Cleirigh (Brother): Ronan is considered his best friend. Garrett takes pride in being one of the only ones that can make his older brother laugh.
Kaylor Cleirigh (Sister): Kaylor was a gift from the heavens. She didn’t fall into any stereotype and is always ready to drop everything in order to stand by him.
Roman Cleirigh (Brother): Roman and Garrett never got along. Roman went as far as separating him while he trained in Self-Disintegration. It took 3 weeks for Ronan and Kaylor to find all of him. If something is amidst, in his life, Roman is most likely behind it. Right now he does his best to ignore him.
Children Names:
None
Romantic Connections:
Jia Hu Cleirigh (Love): They have an off again/on again relationship. Garrett is sure Jia is the one he wishes to spend the rest of his life with but that’s a long time. He isn’t afraid of much but labels and commitments might be the only thing holding them back from greatness together.
Platonic Connections:
Brighton ‘Bee’ Genesis (Brother-In-Law): Garrett was sad when he found out that Kaylor was married. He gave Bee a lot of shit but the son of a bitch won him over.
Ishtar Cleirigh (Sister-In-Law): Garrett was skeptical of Ishtar at first and he tried more than once to get Ronan to reconsider marriage. Once Garrett gave her a chance their relationship flourished.
Nathan Cleirigh (Nephew): Garrett likes Nathan’s mannerisms. He takes pride in teaching his nephew ways to avoid answering questions due to his inability to lie. He also respects that Nathan has never tried to shrink him.
Ethan Cleirigh (Nephew): Ethan either has great bravery, or the need to die, that Garrett doesn’t see in anyone else. While they don’t have much in common, Garrett enjoys their random lunch or dinner dates.
Judson Cleirigh (Nephew): Judson is pure entertainment to Garrett. Besides his brothers, he has never met anyone with such a keen for magic and the supernatural world around them.
Akasha Genesis (Niece): Askasha is like her mother and sometimes gives Garrett a run for his money. More than often she’s always getting him into trouble.
Gennifer Genesis (Niece): Gennifer was one of the reasons Garrett hates kids; and still does. She’s not bad as an adult, but Gennifer as a toddler is forever ingrained in Garrett’s mind. She keeps him up to date on the happenings around the world.
Owen Genesis (Nephew): Who names their kid Owen? Nobody.
Ryan Cleirigh (Great-Nephew): When Judson came home with a little bundle, Garrett was happy to have another Cleirigh baby in the family after hundreds of years. He genuinely likes the kid. Usually he hates kids.
Teyla ‘Tikka’ Cleirigh (Niece): He told Ishtar a thousand times that Teyla didn’t seem like a Teyla. He created her nickname Tikka and was glad it stuck. Thanks to his experience with Ryan, Garrett was more hands on with Teyla and he barely dropped her as a baby.
Altair Cleirigh (Nephew): Garrett has never loved anyone the way he loves Altair. He is perfect and can do no wrong in Garrett eyes. The child has opened his heart completely and it shows. He has already called dibs on being his forever mentor.
Duke Thornton (Distant Cousin): Garrett and Duke had a lot of fun while he was still a warlock. Their fun has slowed down but they continue to support each other… Mostly at a distance or with a ton of alcohol.
Averill Sookram (Friend): They used to be friends and Garrett is unsure why they are arguing this decade but he is sure they will be back to their old ways soon.
Lyra Cleirigh (Friend): Lyra mentored under his siblings. Garrett took her out on a ‘mentorship’ to test out what she learned for a few years as a mentor too.
Chiara Ricci (Friend): They have an unlikely friendship. Garrett finds her amusing and full of life, unlike most vampires.
Cassandra Askeris (Friend): Cassandra is one of Jia’s friends who has become one of his own. It took a while to get her over to his side but Garrett eventually did.
Kady Gaines (Friend): Kady introduced Garrett to social media, starbucks, Apple products and more. She is the modern witch of their time and Garrett enjoys her.
Peter Knox (Future Friend): Peter is dating his cousin Duke. Garrett has a lot of questions about their relationship and Peter doesn’t kick him out of Anon when he asks. Garrett is sure they're on the road to a fun loving friendship.
Minsky Edison (Old Friend): It's been centuries since Garrett and Minsky met. Minsky is often called in when Roman separates him while he’s disintegrated.
Jason Weyden (Acquaintance): Garret doesn’t mind Jason. He laughs at all of his jokes and is not easily offended by the things he says. Garret wouldn’t mind buying him a drink or opening a tab for him at Anon.
Kudzai Rinker (Acquaintance): They do business together and Garrett knows most of her children. Garrett wouldn’t call her a friend. He doesn’t agree with her treatment of those who share her mark or her black widow past.
Sid Velanica (Friendly): Sid is training under Jia. It's a rule that he cannot be unnecessarily rude to the mentees unless he wants his shit fucked up.
Hostile Connections:
Eric Lasiter (Strained): Eric is trying to be like him. Garrett is 23% sure of it.
Arthur Milligan (Hate): Arthur needs a life away from Roman and his family.
Tristan Lawton (Dislike): Tristan is a screw up and the entire supernatural world knows! He and Ronan are often called to fix Tristans’ mistakes.
Pets:
God (Owl): God is Garrett familiar. God has been a little secret of Garrett’s only his close family knows. He’s had him since he was 20. Garrett often turns to God and has been for 872 years.
→ History Garrett had a tough life before he was found by Ronan. His mother and step-father hated him and made his life miserable. At first he tried to be everything they wanted him to be and expected from him. Under their daily pressure his strength slowly died down, leaving him numb, and unafraid of what they or others thought of him. This drove him into acting reckless, being uncompromising and using intimidation against those who thought they could walk all over him. He was 11 years old when he killed one of the neighborhood dogs by mistake. Seeing the blood rush out of its body triggered something in Garrett. He continued down that route, killing and experimenting with any small animals he could find, until the day his step-father took him hunting. He was Garrett’s first human kill. It continued to the annoying baby next door, random strangers in the streets, boys at school and finally his mother.
He was running from his town's people when Ronan found him. He had apparently temporarily deactivated all of the local wards for a few seconds without knowing. But it was enough to alert Ronan, Kaylor and Roman that there was another warlock or witch close by. They had been close by because they were tracking rumors of someone that shared their marks and possibilities of them being a necromancer due to the increasing amount of death within the town limits. Garrett was skeptical at first but the man teleported him away from the angry mob of people closing in on them. He caught a glimpse of Ronan’s world and power, and Garrett wanted in.
Kaylor and her husband, Bee, suggested that Garrett get a familiar as he struggled with his magic. Garrett wasn’t quick at picking up magic like Ronan, Kaylor and Roman were. It took awhile but Ronan was sure he wasn’t an elemental, mental, or a necromancer, evocator or therinologist after trying to test his power. They were also lost at why he was immune to physically created magic. While some magical powers were recorded, they were still working on figuring most powers and why some powers manifested later on in life. Garrett fell in this category for decades. He focused more on long distance teleportation, conjuring, enchantments and scrying. It wasn't until Garrett disintegrated an object did they finally figure what he was and focused on him catching up.
Garrett’s need to kill died down drastically after meeting his brothers and sister. While his magic did make it easier to kill, his interest winged away from it and more towards sex and magic. He was forever young, accumulating money and had godlike powers. He laid with men and women alike. Waltzing into city after city breaking hearts. Jia Hu saw right past all of that when they met. He was a mentee under Ronan and was constantly in Garrett’s space. He didn’t mind sharing his space with Jia, Garrett pursued him and they dated for nearly a year before Garrett found himself afraid of where their relationship was heading. Jia was his first serious fling and Garrett couldn’t fight the feeling of love growing over him. Garrett left for Italy, to mentor briefly under someone else besides Ronan and Kaylor. When he returned, he and Jia picked right back up where they left off. This started the pattern that varied from Garrett or Jia leaving for a few months with the longest separation being 10 years.
→ The Present Garrett has been working on his relationship with Jia. Things have been going well and Garrett is unsure if it is the calm before the storm or if they’ve both grown past their fears. While working on keeping their bond strong, Garrett has taken up learning more about charms and started showing more of an interest behind the craft. While he usually focuses more on spells since he is immune to physically created magic, Garrett has been tinkering with charms. He figured he had a hack for placing curses on charms that are not easily detected and are untraceable. He has been doing this in his free time and has yet to share the news with Jia, his local charm master lover.
Garrett has been thinking of taking on a mentee, however, with his power of magical disintegration, it's been hard to find a mentee that shares his powers or is solely interested in ways to break down bonds, potions, charms, shields, wards, etc. Ronan and Loland's new addition, Altair has not helped his thoughts either. Everyone knows when left to his thoughts it can be dangerous. Garrett's thoughts are leading towards wanting to steal, or possibly adopt, a witch or warlock child to train in all his glory. Those thoughts are still at the forefront of his mind but he plans on playing caution around his family and Jia; not knowing what their reaction would be.

Chapter 177
Cammie
"Hey, Boo." Amber says.
"Hey. I'm feeling like canceling everything and getting in the bed. I don't even feel like seeing people. I'm not a good celebrity."
She picks Caden up. "Girl, who the fuck is?"
I pull Caden's shirt down. "Caden is ready. He likes attention. Between April and Rose he is in heaven. I only get him when it's time to eat. He won't drink the bottle anymore. He likes to be smothered by these jugs."
"Sounds like a man."
"Shut up, crazy." I chuckle. "Trey went out of town last night. I'm worried about him. Like he feeling some type of way still. I think he just made up a reason to leave."
"But wouldn't he just leave?"
I shrug. "Never has."
She sits down on the bed. "This still about that person saying something to him?"
"I think so."
"He might be tired of people being at... Did he leave when Chris left?"
I stand up off of the bed. "Okay, let us stop being like this. MiMi went to her Aunt's house this morning. She leaves her baby here talking about she needs a break. Called 30 minutes later saying Dee bringing her back. Craziness is everywhere."
"Who has her baby?"
"Well, Rollie stole the baby. Took her and Lane to his house."
Amber starts laughing really hard. A few seconds later the bedroom door opens. We look at each other and laugh some more. MiMi crosses her arms looking mad. Oh she about to be highly upset. JJ runs in the room behind her looking at her face.
"Mommy, Uncle Rollie took your baby. He gone."
"What?" she says looking between all of us.
I raise my eyebrows. "Bae, listen, I..."
"Don't even!"
"But baby listen."
Trey walks into the room carrying bags. He pushes MiMi.
"Move from the door." he says already in the room. "Why the air so thick in here? What's up, JJ?"
"Uncle Rollie took my mommy baby." JJ says being nosey trying to see in Trey's bags.
Trey hands him a little toy store bag. "Where Lane?"
"Gone. Uncle Rollie took he too. Cool!" JJ yells about the car inside the bag.
"Hey, Jay." Trey says kissing my cheek. "You suddenly got pissed."
"Did I?" I ask.
He takes his shirt off then take Caden from Amber. Caden seemed like he was happy to see Trey. He kicks his feet as Trey lifts him in the air. That's so dangerous for him being so small. He lies Caden on the bed then dig through his bags. I get closer to him to look inside the bags. They were from a children's clothing store. Trey puts a little baseball cap on Caden's head.
"The boys had outfits for the party already right?" Trey asks.
"Yes."
He puts a hat on JJ's head. "Okay, look at this tiny tie."
I take it from him. "It's the same color as the bow tie on their outfits."
"This my hat, Trey? Huh, Uncle Trey?"
"Yeah, JJ."
Amber starts laughing then stands up off the bed. "You here that? MiMi yelling."
"Where Tiny? I got her a princess pacifier."
"That's so cute. Tremaine, how long did you stay in the children's store?"
"It's across from the toy store. JJ said bring him a car that he can take in the car with him. Told me he always has to leave his car at home."
I roll my eyes. "Oh that's why JJ wanted to stay here and not go with them. That kid is spoiled by all of you."
MiMi walks in the room. "Can you believe that nigga said... JJ what is that?"
"My hat." JJ says smiling.
"Anyway, Rollie talking about he hoing to bring my baby home when she ready. She is 2 months. What kinda ready is she going to be? Then he sends a picture of her sleeping. Like you just took her to fucking be funny. He was here when I told you I was on the way home. People so childish."
Trey looks at MiMi. "Look."
She wanted to stay mad but she smiles. "How fucking cute is this? Awh. Minnie says thank you. JJ lost her favorite pacifier that had the nipple like this."
"No." JJ says running out of the room.
"I don't feel like this party today. Caden doesn't either." I say.
Trey puts some shoes on Caden. "Oh shit they fit. Its 1 to 2 month. I thought they would slide right off."
"Did you hear me?" I snap.
"What did you say?"
I roll my eyes. "Nothing."
MiMi starts looking through Trey's bags. "What kinda car did you buy for $100?"
"Who looks at prices? JJ's or Lane's." Trey shrugs. "Jay, what's wrong?"
"She not feeling this party." Amber says.
Trey grabs Caden. "Why is everybody crowded around me? Come on, Caden. Jayla, cancel the party. Call everyone that made time in their busy schedule."
"Yeah, okay, whatever."
"Caden everybody in my space?" Trey says walking out. "Ma, look at Caden hat and shoes."
I fall back on the bed. Maybe my problem is that I have been in this house too fucking long. When is the last time I went somewhere? Everybody was all worried about how long I stayed at the hospital but no one is realizing that I have been home in this house for the last few days. I'm about to runaway. Away from everybody and I'm not taking anybody with me. I grab my cellphone and walk out of the room. MiMi and Amber were looking at the stuff that Trey had in his bags. All children stuff. I grab a random set of keys and head to the garage.
"Auntie. I got my shoes. I go with you?"
"Say what?" I turn around looking at JJ with his bedroom shoes on. "Come on."
He holds up his car. "This fit?"
"Yes it can."
"Yeap, it fit." he says excited. "Uncle Trey got me this."
I grab his hand. He wanted to talk about the toy instead of walking out of the door. He bounces happily with his toy car while I figure out which keys I have. The garage light turns on and the door starts going up. I don't know what I pressed. I did figure out which car it was without pressing the panic button.
Rollie
"Ah $400,000 house. Would you live here?" I ask Leah.
She snatches the phone. "Who wouldn't want to live there?"
"It's too small for Trey and Cammie. They wouldn't live there."
"When you talk of Trey and Cammie, no. But Cammie would love to stay there." Leah says putting clothes in a suitcase.
I sit the phone down. "Who is going somewhere?"
"These clothes and this suitcase."
"Don't get slapped. You be fucking with me these days."
She giggles. "But they are."
I pick my phone back up. "This house is in California. I wouldn't pay that much for a house like that. It's only 3 bedrooms. Cost so much because of the area."
"When you leave out put these clothes and stuff in that charity box."
"Charity? Naw you have to go all the way to the place and get a receipt. Need that for taxes."
She makes a face. "I will not."
I reach across the suitcase and push her chest. She dramatically falls against the dresser making everyone pay attention to her. Jordan and Lane look up from whatever mess that is they making. I look from them to her. She still being dramatic.
"You about to cry now?"
"No." she lies.
Lanes extra nosey self is standing near her with green stuff all over his hands. "You fall? You hurt youself? Let me see."
"She is fine. Go back over there with that."
"It's slime." Lane says holding it near me.
I smack his arm. "Go. Get away."
"Don't do that, Uncle Rollie. Damn." he walks away still cursing.
We are in Jordan's room cleaning out her closet and drawer. She out grew everything that she had for the warm weather and all of her shoes. So those expensive shoes she barely wore all trash now.
"What's wrong with the fucking suitcase?"
"She said it's childish. You bought her that expensive as Michael Khors set. Do you not remember?"
I shrug. "I never remember her reasoning for stuff. It's always imaginary."
"A lie." she snaps.
"Just like you falling against that damn dresser from a little ass push." I say standing up. "MiMi wants her baby back."
Leah shrugs. "So what? I didn't take her."
I grab her arm before she could move away from me. She rolls her sexy eyes at me. There still isn't any improvement in this dumbass relatioship or whatever it is she is trying to prove. I fuck her when I want, I can't fuck anyone else, and I sleep with her every night. Lately she has been going out of town with me whenever I go. Shit sounds like an intense ass relationship to me.
"Roe, those kids are right there." She says low.
"And?"
She turns around without her arm reaching into the dresser. "Take MiMi back her baby."
"I need you to stop playing with me."
"What do you mean?"
"It has never been a question of what we have between us. Now everything a question. Look at me."
She turns around. "You are the one fucked that up."
"Don't try this TV bullshit with me. I have been here for you. For weeks. Doing shit I know you like. Without being asked. Or thanked in any kind of way."
"Why should I thank you for doing what you supposed to be doing already?"
"Cause I'm doing more than required for two people who are just fucking."
"We're not just fu!" she stops because she realized she was too loud. "We aren't."
I raise my eyebrows. "That's what I was told. This don't mean nothing."
She was almost in tears. "It does mean something."
"Oh you ready to be mine? Shit, I thought this was a game that would be ending soon."
"Whatever, Rollie."
I walk away from her. "Whatever, Aailyah."
"It no Aailyah nothing." Lane snaps. "Don't say her name like that. She not want to hear you say her name. You say Leah, and that's it. That the end."
"Nigga."
"No nigga nothing." Lane snaps.
I cut my eyes at Leah. She had a smile on her face. I facetime Cammie so she can hear her bad ass son. He don't do shit like this around her. He not even cursing.
"Lane, chill. All tht talking like you five feet. I say Aailyah if I want to boy."
"You not gone say it again. You not say it to me. You not say it to her. You play games with my life." Lane starts laughing at himself. "I tripping. You got me all tripping. Talk to somebody else. You hear me?"
I look at Cammie. She is laughing really hard.
"Uncle Rollie, you quiet now?"
"Lane, shut up." I couldn't avoid laughing anymore.
He starts laughing too. He still had the green stuff on his hand. Little Trey Songz looking ass. I kick my foot at him. He is overreacting. I laugh then show him Cammie.
"Uh, Mommy." he says giggling then he shows her his hands. "Look Mommy."
"No, I heard all that fussing you were doing. Don't even try it."
Lane yells then run away. "No thank you."
"Hey, LeeLee. You liking your little guest?"
"She is so cute. I don't know why Rollie stole her but I enjoy her. She doesn't cry like your son did."
Cammie laughs. "Don't do my baby and he was taking up for you."
"Lane, I love you." Leah says.
"What about me?" Jordan whines.
Leah turns and look at her. "Give me a chance, Sweet kisses. I love you."
Jordan turns her head not saying nothing back. Leah makes a face at her. I stand up walking to Leah. I give her my phone then kiss her neck. She grabs my arm as I'm walking away. I bite her shoulder making her let me go. She acts like it didn't happen and starts talking to Cammie. From the way she talking she is over this bullshit phase. I want her to go through my phone and see how clean that shit is. No women anywhere in my phone.
"Dad, Lane got to pee but he got the stuff on his hands. Dadddy!"
"Where is he?"
"Rollie!" Leah yells.
I sigh and jog back to the room. "What?"
"Help Lane in the bathroom. He is crying."
"I told him." Jordan says.
I walk into the bathroom. Lane was trying to take the stuff off of his hands and squeeze his legs together. I chuckle and help him sit on the toilet. He continues trying to get the stuff off of his hands.
"MiMi says bring her baby right now."
"No. That our baby. She not there. Right Uncle Rollie?"
I hit his head then wipe the slime off his hands. "Well, when she starts crying it's time for her to go home. You got mommy bottles to feed her?"
"I no got mommy boobs. I a boy. Daddy say boy not have mommy boobs. Temaine say that."
"You starting to talk too good, bruh. Too much." I shake my head.
When his hands are clean he jumps down from the toilet.
"You a baby, Uncle Rollie."
"I should have let you pee yourself."
Leah walks in the room. "Lane, your daddy wants to talk to you."
He stops playing with the water. "Temaine."
"Daylan." Trey says.
"Daddy." Lane starts whining as he walk to the phone. "Uncle Rollie, I go home. I get my shoes, Daddy."
Trey laughs. "He just started crying and demanding to come home."
I take my phone. "Aight."
"Yeah." Trey says hanging up.
"Ride with me to take them home."
She shakes her head. "Don't forget this suitcase."
I walk into the bedroom where Minnie is just in time. Lane had got her carrier and had it by the bed. I watch him climb up on the bed. I know this boy don't think he can put her in the carrier. He takes her bag and climb off the bed. He starts running towards me then stop. He looks back at Minnie.
"You get Auntie baby." he says. "Let's go, now."
"Daddy, I... I mean. Can I go?"
"Yeah."

Curiosity
Mason unzipped his lunch box and stared at the food inside half-heartedly.
Homemade sandwich; fresh fruit neatly cut into little shapes and a little slice of banana bread. He had watched Doll make the bread yesterday. It was hard on the outside. But the inside was smooth. Soft. His mouth watered (not that he'd admit it).
He took the slice out first, taking a moment to let its scent waft over him. It was comforting.
A twinge of guilt made his heart skip a beat when he realized this. But he shrugged the feeling off.
He bit down, his tongue relishing in the texture and flavor. But it turned sour at the sound of another student shuffling up to him from behind.
He had skipped out on the lunch room. Too noisy. Too many kids.
It made him anxious.
He came out here, on the playground, to sit on a swing.
Right now, it was quiet. Serene.
At least, it had been.
Now another numbskull approached him. He fought back the urge to turn around and spit.
"You look happy."
Mason cocked an eyebrow.
Oh. It was Caden.
Caden was... alright.
The boy sat on the swing next to him and kicked off slowly.
Neither of them spoke, until Mason managed to swallow the mushy paste in his mouth before he wiped his face with his sleeve and set it back inside the box. It was strange. He didn't like eating in front of Caden. It made him more aware of how ridiculous he must look. Half the time forgetting to chew with his mouth closed; sometimes he'd cough or sneeze and spit food on his vest.
Caden always laughed and it made his cheeks burn.
What did he care?
He didn't care about anyone else watching him. He didn't care about what anyone else thought of him.
But Caden had a way of making Mason self-conscious. In every aspect.
He noticed the fringes of hair out of place when Caden was around. He noticed his teeth weren't as straight or as white as he wanted them to be.
Did Caden notice those things about him?
He turned to study the boy.
Caden's eyes were shining. They were always shining; bright and curious. His hair was smooth (Mason sometimes found himself thinking about running his hands through it). He had a pronounced jawline - something he inherited from his father. Michael had always been regarded as a handsome man. His attitude was fierce, but none could deny his striking appearance.
But even though they shared similar physical structures, Caden's personality couldn't be farther from his father's.
Caden was a bright boy, literally. Confident and strong. You could try knocking him down, but he wasn't about to stay down for long. And he was smart, incredibly smart. One might not think so, from the way he forgot most things. But that wasn't his fault. He was a very hands-on leaner. Picked up many things very quickly if he could get right in and do them. He wasn't afraid to make mistakes, and he didn't care what other's thought.
That was another thing Mason admired about him. He was always so happy. Whatever anyone did or said.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer." Caden's teasing jab broke Mason out of his train of thought and he realized the boy had stopped swinging and noticed Mason staring, for who knows how long.
"I was just zoning out," Mason retorted, a little more fiery than he'd meant to.
But Caden wasn't fazed. "You do that a lot. Always something on your mind." The kid flashed him a smile before he kicked off again.
Mason bit his lip and turned away. Caden's smile got him, every time. And he didn't know why. He didn't know why he loved that stupid lopsided grin so much. "Anyway." He nonchalantly picked at a stray leaf that stuck to the side of his vest. "What're you doing out here?"
"Came to see you! Duh!" Caden's voice rose as he swung higher, and Mason wanted to tell him to hush, in case anyone else could hear.
"Why?" Mason asked, feeling his heart skip another beat.
"I dunno," Caden spoke earnestly. "Just wanted to!"
"Okai." Mason looked down at his shoe. There was a scuff mark on the end. When had that gotten there?
"Pass me that fruit, eh?" Caden stopped swinging and pointed to Mason's lunch box, which still lay opened on his lap.
He handed Caden the cup of fruit, and Caden threw his head back, slurping the whole lot of it without hesitation.
And yet, he still looked so handsome. Even with juice trickling down his chin and onto his shirt below. He licked his lips and Mason swallowed.
He wondered what they felt like.
What if... what if they kissed?
"F*cks sake, Farkle," he found himself cursing out loud, and his cheeks turned beet red when Caden gave him a 'wtf?' look.
"You alright?"
"I'm fine. Whatever." Mason closed his eyes and kicked off his own swing, if only to get away from Caden.
It didn't occur to him he was still holding the lunch box until it shot off his lap and landed in the dirt below him, its contents spilling out in turn.
He skidded to a halt and stared at it, horrified.
Next to him, Caden snickered. "Guess you gotta wait til we get home to eat now, eh?"
"I guess." Mason had never wanted to disappear so bad before. Cursing himself again, he reached out to pick up the lunch box.
His hand brushed Caden's, who'd had the same idea and he flinched.
He sighed audibly and Caden flashed him another glance, this time laced with concern.
"You thinking about your mom again?"
"Uh... Yeah," Mason lied, twiddling his thumbs together, because it was easier than admitting what he was really thinking about.
"You wanna talk about it?" Caden finished putting Mason's scrapped lunch back in his box and held it out for him to take.
He accepted it reluctantly and stood up, brushing stray patches of dirt off his pants. "Nah. I... I think I wanna be alone."
"Oh." Caden's expression was hard to read. Was he worried? Annoyed? Mason couldn't tell. "Alright. I'll get back to the lunch room then."
Mason didn't respond as Caden dusted off his own pants. He felt Caden's gaze boring into the back of his head before the kid turned with a shrug and jogged back toward the building.
Mason waited til he was out of sight before he groaned, rubbing his temple with his fingers.
He was so uncertain. So confused. So scared of these feelings that overcame him when Caden was around.
Did he like the kid? Was that weird? He wasn't sure.
But until he sorted his feelings out, he thought it might be best to avoid the kid altogether.
He shot the lunch building one last anxious look before he bolted for the bathroom. He'd hide out in there until his next class started.

Summer Dream - Chapter 19
Previous Chapters
In the morning, Aspen woke up to the sound of horses neighing. She rubbed her eyes and sat up. She looked down at Michael’s sleeping form next to her before shaking him gently. “Mike, wake up.” Aspen said, shaking him.
“Mm, five more minutes.” Michael mumbled, pulling her tightly against his chest. She groaned a little and kicked his shin.
“Mike, wake up. We need to get back to camp.” Aspen said, getting off the bale.
“Is the storm passed?” Michael asked, stretching his arms above his head as a yawn escaped his lips.
“Yeah, it’s only sprinkling now.” Aspen said, looking out the small window. “Get dressed so we can find a way back.” Michael nodded and got up. He grabbed his clothes and pulled them on.
“My clothes are still wet.” Michael sighed, wrapping the blanket around his clothed self.
“You’ll be fine. You can change when we get back.” Aspen said, walking out into the light rain. Michael held her hand as they walked toward the river. “We can swim across. It doesn’t look like the current is strong today.”
“A-are you sure it’s safe? The current is unpredictable.” Michael said, looking down at Aspen.
“We’ll be fine, Mike. We can make it.” Aspen said, letting go of his hand. She walked to the edge of the river and jumped in.
“Aspen!” Michael said, waiting to see her come to the surface. It took longer than he wanted, and his heart was racing. She finally surfaced and Michael let out a breath of relief.
“Come on, get in.” Aspen called to him. “The current is weak.” Michael chewed on his lip as he debated it. Finally, he jumped in. The cold water embraced him and he came up, coughing slightly.
“You didn’t tell me it was this cold.” Michael said as they started swimming downstream.
“You wouldn’t have gotten in, if I told you that.” Aspen said, pulling herself up onto the rocky dam. Michael followed, shivering as he left the water. “Now, let’s go get some warm clothes on and then we can go to breakfast.” Michael nodded, holding her hand as they walked back to camp. They went their separate ways at their cabins, but met again when they had changed into dry clothes.
“I hope we don’t get sick from being wet.” Michael sighed, wrapping his arm around her shoulders as they headed to the mess hall. They walked in, and all eyes were on them.
“Oh, my God. They’re alive.” Rian chuckled. “They survived.”
“Yes, and we’re starving.” Aspen said, grabbing a plate. She filled it with a couple waffles and some cantaloupe. She took a seat next to Michael at the table of counselors.
“You two had us worried sick.” Carly said, looking at the two of them. “What happened?”
“Well, I had gone down to the river last night to be alone. The river started getting crazy, but I was enjoying watching it. The water had started rising from the storm and the rapids were cracking the boards. I tried to get off before it broke completely, but I got off on the wrong side.”
“I saw the broken bridge and I thought she had ended up in the water. I spent, like, an hour looking for her before I gave up and went to the farm.” Michael added.
“I had already been in the barn for a while. I went there right after I got off the bridge. I tried to use the landline out there to call you guys, but the power was out.” Aspen said. “Then, Michael showed up.”
“We slept in the barn to avoid getting struck by lightning, and we swam across the river this morning to get back. We decided we wanted to be dry for breakfast, so we changed before we came here.” Michael said. “It was a rough night. I thought the barn was gonna be swept away.”
“You had us all so worried.” Alex nodded. “We really thought you were both dead.”
“Yeah, your brothers didn’t sleep at all last night.” Carly sighed. “They kept saying they should’ve gone with Michael to look for you.”
“I should probably go talk to them.” Aspen sighed, looking over at them.
“I think that’d be a good idea.” Alex nodded. “We’ll talk to you later.” Aspen nodded and got up, going over to the table her brothers were sitting at.
“What the hell were you thinking last night?” Carter asked, looking at her.
“I didn’t think the storm would come on that strong so fast.” Aspen sighed. “I couldn’t sleep and I needed to go somewhere to think.”
“We thought you were dead.” Caleb sighed. “You should’ve come back when the storm hit.”
“I would have, but the bridge was hit by the water.” Aspen said. “It’s uncrossable now. We’ll have to rebuild it.”
“What do you mean it was hit by the water?” Carter asked.
“The water kept rising with the rain and the winds caused the currents to go crazy. The water hit the bridge and broke the boards.” Aspen said. “I was on the other side of the river and couldn’t get back across, so I went to the farm and stayed in the barn where it was dry. Michael found me there.”
“How did you get back across this morning?” Caden asked.
“We swam across the river and went down to the dam.” Aspen said.
“Are you insane? You never go in the river after a storm as bad as last night.” Carter said. “You could have gotten yourself and Michael killed. Do I need to remind you of the last time we had a storm this bad?” Carter asked, his voice lowering.
“No, I remember perfectly.” Aspen looked down. “We all do.”
“Good. Do not go back to the river, understand?” Carter asked sternly.
“I understand.” Aspen sighed.
“We’re glad you’re okay.” Caden sighed, hugging her gently. “We can put it all behind us now.” He said, sending a glare to Carter. Carter rolled his eyes and stood up.
“I’m going to look at the damage on the bridge. Karmen, you can dismiss the kids for activities.” Carter said, walking out of the mess hall. Aspen sighed and watched him walk away.
“Don’t worry about him. You know how worked up he gets during storms.” Karmen said, squeezing Aspen’s shoulder gently.
“I didn’t mean to get stuck out there. None of us knew when it would hit or how hard.” Aspen sighed.
“We know that. We were all just worried about you. Especially after everything with Audrey, we didn’t know if she had pulled something else.” Caleb reasoned. “He’ll get better, don’t worry.”
“He’s always so hard on me, for no reason. It’s not my fault I was stuck out there, it’s not my fault I couldn’t get back, it’s not my fault Audrey’s the Devil.” Aspen huffed. “He thinks he’s my dad.”
“He thinks he’s the boss of all of us, it’s just him being protective. Don’t get to hung up on it, you know how he is.” Caden sighed. “You just have to give him time.”
“Yeah, I guess.” Aspen took a deep breath. “We better get the kids out to their activities now.”
The day went smoothly, for the most part. The kids were disappointed about having to do all of their activities inside, but they were over it by the time freetime started. They were more than fine with sitting in their friends’ cabins, or hanging out in the rec hall. Michael was in the treehouse with the boys and some campers. Michael was playing pingpong with one of the boys in his cabin. “I get to play the winner.” One of the campers said.
“Actually,” Audrey said, walking into the treehouse. “Why don’t you take Michael’s spot? We need to talk.” Audrey smiled softly at him.
“We don’t need to talk. I can keep playing.” Michael rolled his eyes.
“Please, Mike? I just want to explain myself..” Audrey sighed.
“Alright, fine. I’ll give you two minutes.” Michael sighed, following her down the stairs. He looked into the craft room as they passed, making eye contact with Karmen. He cocked his head, gesturing for her to follow. She stood by the door and pulled out her phone, opening her recording app. “What do you have to say?” Michael asked Audrey, crossing his arms.
“I just wanted to talk about what happened and what we do about it now.” Audrey said, rubbing her arms nervously.
“We aren’t going to do anything about it now. You’re going to leave me and Aspen alone, and we’re going to have a great rest of the summer.” Michael crossed his arms.
“Don’t you see, Michael? Aspen’s been trying to come between us. She only ever liked you because I liked you. She always steals the guy I like. Ever since we were in middle school. She’s dated every guy I’ve ever liked.” Audrey sighed and looked up at him. “She doesn’t actually like you, she’s just using you to make me jealous.”
“God, you are so full of shit.” Michael laughed dryly. “Do you really expect me to believe you after everything you’ve done? You could have killed Aspen and you’re still trying to tell me she’s the bad guy here?”
“She is the bad guy. She’s been lying to you the whole time.” Audrey whined.
“Get your head out of your ass and face reality, Audrey. Aspen has done nothing to you. It’s not her fault you have no talent. Why are you still pretending she’s the enemy? Wouldn’t life be so much easier if you just told the truth?” Michael threw his hands up in exasperation.
“What? You want me to just admit that I lied about her? You want me to tell everyone that she didn’t wrong me in any way? I’ll be labelled as the bitter reject.” Audrey rolled her eyes.
“I want you to leave Aspen and her career alone. If you’re so mad about her being successful, why don’t you try learning to play more instruments or learning to write your own songs?” Michael questioned.
“I can’t just learn a new instrument. It’s a little late for me to start learning. And, how can I learn to write songs? It’s not like picking up a new instrument.”
“You need to try something.” Michael groaned. “I don’t know, okay? I’m not talentless, like you. Just start trying, and leave me and Aspen alone.”
“But, Michael, I do like you.” Audrey looked up at him, tears filling her eyes.
“And, what? You think I’m just going to tell you that I like you too? Well, I don’t. Not after everything you’ve done to her.”
“I haven’t done anything, but lie about the rivalry. She didn’t steal my songs and she got signed because she was better than me.” Audrey said.
“Really? All you did was lie? You didn’t do anything else to her?” Michael raised an eyebrow.
“Okay, and I started a war. I made her get fired from Keith Urban’s tour, I tampered with her instruments, I vandalized her tour bus, I slashed the tires on her tour bus, I fucked her boyfriend, I set up the trap in the woods that nearly broke her ankle, I made my campers sabotage the game. Is that what you wanted to hear?” Audrey threw her hands up.
“Did you get enough, Karmen?” Michael asked, turning to look at the door to the craft room.
“Oh, I have plenty. Thank you.” She smirked, showing herself to Audrey.
“You set me up?” Audrey gasped, looking at Michael. “How could you?”
“You act like I’m betraying you. I never liked you. I’m doing this to make sure you leave me and Aspen alone. I don’t ever want to hear things about you interfering with her life or with her career, got it?” Michael raised an eyebrow.
“Got it..” Audrey sighed, looking at Karmen. “Please delete what you have. I can’t have this getting out.”
“I didn’t make any notes, I was only listening.” Karmen lied.

RANDOM FACTS ABOUT THE MUN
Repost, don’t reblog! Tag 6 muns you would like to get to know better when done!
Name: Caden Nickname: ? Age: 34 Faceclaim: Mr. Chapel from Vengeance Unlimited and sometimes other MM’s characters Pronouns: They/Them Height: 5′3′’ Birthday: November 25th
Aesthetic:
Last song you listened to: Thunder by Imagine Dragons
Favourite muse(s) you’ve written: I loved to write Crowley so much, but no matter how I tried to ignore the bullshit that happened in the show, SPN killed my muse. I really loved Cath, but I couldn’t find enough RP-partners to write more and develop the muse. Right in the moment I can say, I equally enjoy writing Vic and the nameless, although I would love to write Morris, Budd and The Gent more.
What inspired you to take on your current muse (that you are posting this on): Well, this muse is my otherkin, no matter if people like / understand this or not. I went a pretty long road full of self-doubting before I made this blog. Cath was partially this muse, btw. My memories inspired me. I was afraid to RP this, didn’t know how people would take it, but now I feel great writing this guy.
What’s your biggest inspiration when it comes to writing: My RP-partners’ replies, of course. Michael Madsen is a great source of inspiration, his voice, his manners. I take less of him here, but when I write Vic Vega, all the expression, voice, intonations, gestures, catch phrases etc., etc. are taken from Mike. Also books I read and shows / movies I watch.
The biggest struggle in regards to your current muse: I’m always afraid of making him too perfect, I don’t want people to think of him as a self-inserted Gary Stu. On the other hand, I’m afraid that putting too much of myself into him can also avert people.

The Lovely Bones (2009)
Drama, Fantasy, Thriller |
The Lovely Bones is a supernatural thriller drama film directed by Peter Jackson, and starring Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli, and Saoirse Ronan. The screenplay by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Jackson was based on Alice Sebold’s award-winning and bestselling 2002 novel of the same name. It follows a girl who is murdered and watches over her family from “the in-between”, and is torn between seeking vengeance on her killer and allowing her family to heal.
An international co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand, the film was produced by Carolynne Cunningham, Walsh, Jackson, and Aimee Peyronnet, with Steven Spielberg, Tessa Ross, Ken Kamins, and James Wilson as executive producers.
In 1973, 14-year-old high school freshman Susie Salmon dreams of becoming a photographer. One day, Ray, a boy she has a crush on, asks her out. As Susie walks home through a cornfield, she runs into her neighbor, George Harvey, who coaxes her into an underground “kid’s hideout” he has built. Inside, Susie grows uncomfortable and attempts to leave; Harvey grabs her and the scene fades until she is seen rushing past her alarmed classmate Ruth Connors, seemingly fleeing Harvey’s den.
The Salmons become worried when Susie fails to return home from school. Her father, Jack, searches for her, while her mother, Abigail, waits for the police. In town, Susie sees Jack, who does not respond to her when she calls. Susie runs home to find Harvey soaking in a bathtub. After seeing the bloody bathroom and her bracelet hanging on the sink faucet, Susie realizes she never escaped the underground den and Harvey murdered her.

Facts about Wars
To answer Michael’s question, European colonists and Indigenous Americans were at war more or less continuously from about 1600-1924 (324 years). This Wikipedia article is the most comprehensive and easy to absorb overview of these wars. As it says, estimates of the pre-colonial population of North America vary significantly, from 2-18 million, but it is generally believed that the population was less than half a million during the 1800s. Another very well-cited Wikipedia article, this is a list of massacres that includes estimated casualties.
Caden’s scene with the Native heads is 100% real, although it mashes up a couple of different colonist attacks:
John Mason’s attack was a part of the Pequot War in 1637 and it was barely a victory for the English:
The attack began at dawn on May 26th (Old Calendar – June 5 New calendar) when the English surrounded the 2-acre village and fired a volley through the gaps in the palisade. The force of 77 English, 60 Mohegan and 200 Narragansett surrounded the fort and the English fired a volley through the palisade walls. Mason and Underhill, with twenty men each, entered the fort through entrances on the northeast and southwest sides. Their objective was to "destroy them by the Sword and save the Plunder" (Mason). Unknown to the English the fort was reinforced the night before by 100 warriors from other villages, bringing the total number of warriors inside the fort to approximately 175. Within 20 minutes English inside the fort suffered 50% casualties. It was then that Mason said: "We should never kill them after that manner: WE MUST BURN THEM!"
The English retreated outside the fort and surrounded it to prevent anyone escaping from the fort. Their Native allies formed a second line outside the English as depicted in the woodcut. The fire quickly spread from the northeast to the southwest forcing everyone in the fort to cluster in the southwest quadrant of the fort. Pequot warriors continued to battle the English from behind the palisade and the English fired at them through the gaps in the palisade.
"Captaine Mason entring into a Wigwam, brought out a fire-brand, after hee had wounded many in the house, then hee set fire on the West-side where he entred, my selfe set fire on the South end with a traine of Powder, the fires of both meeting in the center of the Fort blazed most terribly, and burnt all in the space of halfe an houre;many couragious fellowes were unwilling to come out, and fought most desperately through the Palisadoes, so as they were scorched and burnt with the very flame, and were deprived of their armes, in regard the fire burnt their very bowstrings, and so perished valiantly : mercy they did deserve for their valour, could we have had opportunitie to have bestowed it; many were burnt in the Fort, both men, women, and children, others forced out, and came in troopes to the Indians, twentie, and thirtie at a time, which our souldiers received and entertained with the point of the sword; downe fell men, women, and children, those that scaped us, fell into the hands of the Indians, that were in the reere of us; it is reported by themselves, that there were about foure hundred soules in this Fort, and not above five of them escaped out of our hands" (Underhill).
Later, in 1643, the Dutch were responsible for the incident with the heads:
The governor-general of New Netherland at that time, William Kieft, believed in a policy of harassment and extermination of Hudson River Indians to make room for Dutch settlers. He paid the Mohawk, traditional enemies of the Hudson River Algonquians, to attack the [Wappinger]. The Wappinger fled to the Dutch settlement at Pavonia for protection. Yet Dutch soldiers attacked the unsuspecting Indians while they slept, killing and beheading 80, many of them women and children, and taking 30 more as prisoners. The soldiers brought the 80 heads back to New Amsterdam, where they played kickball with them. They also publicly tortured many of the Indian prisoners. Governor-General Kieft is said to have “laughed right heartily” at the sight.

Lemonade Dramaturgy: Heather Litteer @ Dramaturgy 2017
Lemonade written and starring Heather Litteer will be at the Assembly Rooms Drawing Room on George Street @ 4.30pm for the month of August for tickets go to www.edfringe.com
Is performance still a good space for the public discussion of ideas?
Yes,Absolutely! Performance is a place to gather as a community as a tribe or as a collective. To express who we are to tell stories about our life what inspires us. To gather together to fight back against political outrage, racial inequality, woman rights and more and more. To have a laugh in a room full of strangers.
To give hope when you think you are alone to hear
another persons story and to be able to relate on a myriad of levels weather it be emotional or to hash up some memories of your experience in this life. For centuries theatre and performance had been part of culture and in the center of towns just like we are here in Edinburgh for the Fringe. Performance is is equally relevant today maybe even more with the climate of the political world and the all the violence that is world wide. It's a platform for the people by the people. Let's get it on!
How did you become interested in making performance?
I suppose you could say the playing dress up in mother's closet for hours and hours was my first introduction to performance. She was ultimate glamour to me. I would pretend to be different movie stars . Making shows with my childhood Best Friends and neighborhood kids to Grease and Saturday Night Fever & makings dances to Michael Jackson, ABBA and The Bee Gee's. Eventually snagging my first leading role playing "Ladies First" "Free to Be You and Me" by Marlo Thomas in the 2nd grade about a little that always wants to go first so eventually she gets eaten by tigers!
Is there any particular approach to the making of the show?
The show started as a poem and just started to unfold as a full scale show. I just started piecing things together about all the different jobs I had had over the years and the different film roles. How I always felt typecast and adding my phone calls with my very Steal Magnolia Mother and her southern traditions back dropped with my NYC and she really wanted me to come back home to Momma. I was a bit of a , well let's say Wildflower!
Does the show fit with your usual productions?
I have been an working with experimental performance ensemble Big Art Group and collaborating as team for over a decade we pusheing the boundaries of theatre, film and visual arts we are very transgressive and also using real time film technique.
These experience with Caden Manson and Jemma Nelson at the helm have taught me more than I could ever dream of and touring the world with an amazing collective of rock star artists! But Lemonade is stripped down it is all my own it comes straight from me from my heart and from my specific New York experience of being a woman, a daughter, an actress as well as from the south.
My deep southern fried relationship with my mother and how our values collide. It is truly a woman's journey about falling down 12 times and picking your self up 13. Lemonade my first full length solo show. It's real and about my life.
Although I am from the South so a "Lil Embellishing is always in order". That's a line from Lemonade.
What do you hope that the audience will experience?
I want my audience to come with me on a journey
To Feel.To Know that we are only human the human animal and TO BE Empowered that against any and all odds you can push the envelope froward to take back the power if you feel you have been marginalized especially woman, Sexual Empowerment. To learn to forgive you self. To love yourself .To inspire woman and tell a story and inspire each other.
As Woman, As Human. As Empowerment.
What strategies did you consider towards shaping this audience experience?
Let's go and A roller coaster ride! Really, I am just inviting you into my life ,into my bedroom, my mother's home, my wild and uncut New York party girl experience and that famous sex scene. I want you to be with me every step of the way. I give you myself and my heart on my sleeve or on a platter you choose.
This is just one woman's story but it is for all of us who have experienced great love and great loss. For the girl on the other side. For the girl who feels she has no name. We all truly have our own story and our own life experience.
ACTION! SCENE! ROLLING! and CUT! To be Continued...
