BP 6: A little hitting won't hurt...or would it?

It is honestly hard talking about this, especially due to the fact that the people involved are the people whom we all expect would be the least likely to cause you this much pain.

In every family, there would always be a child that receives more care, and a child that is somewhat neglected, which is a common case for families (Tan & Cabuco, 2020). I am the middle child out of all three siblings, and we all know that if you are the middle, you will never be right or wrong; you are always in between. In our family's case, that is also true, but the difference is that I would always be one of at least two at fault no matter what I do. There are times wherein I am not even involved but they would still look for something that they can be mad about me for them to be able to scold me. Actually, I don't mind getting scolded because I got used to it growing up.

My parents grew up in a significantly different generation to us, siblings. Because of that, their form of discipline imposed on us is kind of similar to what they experienced before, growing up. They are the traditional parents who use basically anything that is convenient to them, usually an object that is nearest to them, by the time they get mad about something we did, and hit us, especially me, who is for them constantly at fault.

I am quite aware that I can’t blame them for adopting this form of discipline for that was what they thought was right by their parents and it is what they grew up in. However, I know for a fact that this form of punishment can cause severe mental problems to children once they grow up (The Harvard Gazette, n.d), because I, myself, experienced it as well.

In continuation of the story, other parents usually talk to their children after hitting them to explain to them that what they did was wrong, but not in our household. As a child, it’s hard to reflect, especially when you can't even distinguish the difference between right and wrong. However, although I am against corporal punishment, being hit by my parents whenever I do something wrong somehow made it easier for me to understand the importance of doing what is right and reflecting on my own. It brought me tons of life lessons that I will bring until I die. Despite this, however, this form of discipline also caused me traumas that I would carry around no matter how hard I try to forget.

Why can’t I forget? It’s just a simple spanking?

Having a good memory is a good thing and I am often praised for having one. Whenever I hear something or see something, it is almost impossible for me to forget it. People think it's a nice trait but this memory I have is also the reason why I usually wake up in the middle of the night, with my eyes drowned with tears.

Since I had a hard time forgetting about it, I often dreamt of it. Perhaps that's how my body reacts to these events. I know a lot would criticize me for responding like this, given that it is not much of a big deal, especially to other people who had similar experiences with what I have, but for me it is. I know for a fact that I was never emotionally fine, even as a child. I may not know the reason behind it, but I am fully aware that I was never emotionally stable. Still, I was always afraid growing up and maybe that served as one of the factors that made those punishments remarkable and a little worse than other people.

However, despite the gravity of its effect on me, I never confronted my parents about it. I chose to be silent because I didn’t want them, yes, even my parents, to see this weak spot of mine but if I had the chance to talk to them about this, I would tell them that “I’ve learned from what you did. I learned how to be more disciplined, and I would never consider those things you did as a factor to label you as bad parents, but I do want you to know that those punishments made me fear a lot of things growing up, and I’m still carrying it ‘til now. I reached the point where I don’t even want to become a parent in the future to avoid doing the same things you did. I don’t want to pass on the trauma I had to my children in the future. You are not bad parents but please do know that I would never classify you as ideal parents either.

Remember that I would always bring each of the learnings I’ve acquired through the disciplines I have experienced as a child. I will never forget those and I would always thank you for making me like this. I am me because of what you did and I wouldn’t change a thing about it and I hope I am the one you wanted me to become.”

Remember how in Soul Reaver there is that part in the Drowned Abbey where there is a boat ?

Well it finally dawned on me that there are two major possibilities for these boats.

After I read this;

I'm sure he'd be somewhat bitter over the "land" he was given. Perhaps the humans who lived in the area found security by creating great waterfalls and moats, making him even more angry at their impudence. (They feel safe in MY LANDS, those cattle!) -  Daniel Cabuco

I realized that boat could have been either human or Vampire.

Just hear me out.

Its obvious that the humans that took shelter in the Drowned Abbey area thought that the water would protect them forever because of the vampires weakness. So it makes sense for them to use boats and such to pass through the area while Rahab and his brood where still trying to adapt to water through the water breathing spell.

Of course it would give Rahab mega jealousy and push him further to adapt faster but what if Rahab also created boats for Kains Empire. It would have been early used during Rahabs adaption until Rahab and his clan developed gills and able to not burn in water for certain periods of time.

But it also makes sense for Rahabim to build boats for other vampire clans to have access. Not that any of them would have dared to besides Turel and his clan, they would have been one of few others that were willing to risk it in an act to show off their pure strength.

Though I believe the boat we see in the game would have belonged to a human, more so to travel to the city area during the early days or perhaps still used from time to time but much more cautiously since the Rahabim became adapted to water.

Just some food for thought, and makes for perfect plotting ideas too.
