to  fit  my  own  timeline  and  ideas,  and  events  of  hush  happened  very  early  on  in  eddie’s  career  as  riddler. which was only a year ( or less ) after he became the riddler. no one took him seriously because he was Fresh Meat, ( and also due to the debacle with Sphinx, which you can read here ) and thus, it's also why bruce didn't think eddie was capable of being the "mastermind" type. because bruce saw eddie as an incompetent victim of vulnerability, and mental illness. and eddie REALLY did want to show everyone that, despite his blunders in the past, he's still capable of being just as threatening as the rest.
this was the first Real Major thing eddie was able to pull, because he had also finally gathered enough money to do so. ( although, he did have a good amount put up from his GCPD days. ) although, some of the rogues wanted to have their doubts, the offers eddie gave us too good to refuse - especially to someone like tommy who has a personal agenda against bruce - and this was the time when bruce learned to accept that riddler is indeed a threat.
eddie was able to decipher batman's identity via lazzy pit because it was already something he had suspected ( even before he became the riddler. ) - but due to his many mental illnesses, eddie kept questioning himself, and due to delusions, and cruel voices, it caused him to constantly second guess if he's right about bruce. although the lazarus pit was used to cure eddie of his terminal cancer, it granted eddie a, as he put it in his own words, "sense of clarity." at first, it seemed he was "cleared" of his mental illnesses, and could think without all the paranoia, all the self consciousness. he was able to convince himself, with all the evidence he's compiled, that bruce is indeed batman. ( unfortunately, for him, his mental illnesses did return not long after. )
by default, my eddie knows that bruce is batman. since, i, uhm, hated the hush sequel and do not view it as canon on this blog. also, funny enough, hush is really the only comic i consider as canon on this blog ( albeit a few changes to match my portrayal ) but as i've said before, if i write with any bruces who don't want my eddie knowing. then i'm okay with being flexible with this bit. CX
also, one last thing. eddie was proooobs 25-26 during hush. ( as he likely became riddler when he was 25 ) so, it happened around 4-5 years ago - as eddie is currently 30 rn.

Daily Ham News
If you’re a regular on the SWLing Post, you’ll certainly know our contributor, Robert Gulley.
Robert is a wonderful friend and one of the biggest ambassadors for radio I know. Robert has mentored a countless number of ham radio operators and radio listeners–his enthusiasm is infectious.
This time, Robert could really use our help.
His wife Jennifer has Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS)–a disease that has progressed to the point she needs 24/7 care. Finances are tight, so when a home equity loan taken out over 15 years ago recently ballooned, Robert and Jennifer have struggled to make these payments and stay afloat.
They’ve explored refinancing and even selling their home, but the numbers simply don’t work in their favor.
I, along with a number of Robert’s close friends, have encouraged him to start a GoFundMe campaign to try to raise some funds to pay down the home equity loan.
Robert isn’t the sort of guy that ever asks for help, indeed he’s always the one giving help. This is why I’m asking you to consider supporting his GoFundMe campaign if you have the means to do so. You can read more about his situation on the GoFundMe page.
Any amount will help as it will be dropped on the principle of their loan and thus shorten the term or even make a refinance possible.
Click here to support Robert’s GoFundMe campaign.
GoFundMe is a reputable organization to raise funds and they don’t take a large cut like some other platforms do, but if you would rather support Robert outside of GoFundMe (directly, by check for example) feel free to contact him.
Thank you!

PACIFIC (DXPEDITION) TOUR ALMOST DID NOT HAPPENED (Update). Heli, DD0VR,
(along with XYL Bigi, DE3BWR) informed OPDX on Monday that their Fiji
“DXpedition ends here.” Heli explains that after two visits to the Fiji
Customs Bureau, and having endless discussions, the couple was told that
they would have to pay three times 1540 Fijian dollars (700 USDs) for
their transmitters & amp in order to take their equipment into the three
islands they planned to operate from (Fiji, Samoa and Tonga). So Heli/

this point, they were very disappointed. However, on Wednesday, thanks
from some help by Tevita Navila (Telecommunications Authority of Fiji),
Tony/3D2AG and Bernie/W3UR of The Daily DX, Heli was able to retrieve
his equipment and was able to be active as 3D2VR from Fiji for a few days.
By the time you read this, Heli (along with his XYL) will be heading
to Samoa and should be active as 5W0VR from Samoa sometime between Sep-
tember 9-16th. Activity will be on various HF bands and modes. QSL via
DD0VR. Next stop will be Tonga, Heli will be signing as A35JY between
September 16-21st.

Although the CP1GJ 6m EME DXpedition in May was a big success, I am

Hi there! Will you organize another edition of the CX bang this year? I keep waiting for an announcement. Thanks ❤️
Hi there, Nonnie!
Thank you so much for checking in with us. We will take this opportunity to promote our current projects-activities.
Our Discord server currently is busy with:
Watch Parties for the donghua and soon will start for the Untamed.
A "go at your own pace" read-along of all versions of the novel, broken down by chapters.
We just launched our Yunmeng Agenda Prompt Collection too! This is an open collection with no time-frame. You can include embedded art into the Prompt submission if you want to potentially inspire writers with it! Or claim a prompt by posting your art as an ao3 work.
We are also promoting ChengXian Happy Endings Prompt Event for August! Run by the same fan in prior years. This year is the last rendition of the event, so please consider joining!
And there's a lot more going on in the fandom, so right now we're all focusing on that, but the calendar is looking sparse for the end of the year, so there may be hope then.
Peace, love, and ChengXian 🍇🍷

Taking ecommerce innovation to the next level: a Savant eCommerce Barcelona recap
I was honoured to chair the 2019 Savant eCommerce Barcelona event of two full immersive days in the stunning surroundings of the Cerveceria Moritz. The specially curated audience included over 100 leaders of ecommerce, digital, marketing, consumer experience (CX) and omnichannel from leading retailers and innovative start-ups.
The agenda was packed with relevant content and networking opportunities, with a focus on transformation both at the frontend and the backend. Delegates learned how to:
Personalise their marketing and consumer journeys to drive engagement and sales
Use online channels and the payments process to build trust and loyalty around their brand
Blend online and offline to offer consumers a seamless omnichannel experience
Build a delivery strategy that encourages online sales and repeat customers
Innovate their fulfillment and returns processes to minimise costs
Expand their business internationally through marketplace platforms
Use AI and immersive technology to offer the right products at the right price and time
Day One
After that all important morning cup of coffee, day one commenced on the theme of Providing a Seamless Experience Across all Online & Offline Channels. The first section of the day was a deep dive on Reaching the Omnichannel Ideal – Seamless, Frictionless, Convenient.
Our first inspiring keynote was from Aly Meyers, Digital Acceleration Director – MS Europe, Mars. He spoke about Accelerating Digital Business in FMCG – Examining the future transformational needs of FMCG organisations. Aly introduced the “new context” for FMCG companies, explaining why they need to adapt to stay relevant and attractive. He also encouraged a shift from ecommerce to “e2e” end-to-end solutions to unlock the full potential of digital business.
Tumblr media
Next we had an expert panel examining How Retailers are Overcoming Common Omnichannel Challenges, for example how much time and budget do you need to invest in a good omnichannel strategy, and which omnichannel platforms and solutions should you be looking at? The panel was brilliantly moderated by Paulo Cunha the CEO of Velocidi, and he was joined by Javier Figar the Global Direct to Consumer Senior Director of Pepe Jeans, and Carolina Agudo, Head of E-Business at Havaianas Europe.
Tumblr media
After this we had a case study from the reliably impressive Dynamic Yield, courtesy of their engaging Iberian Director, Ander Orcasitas, who shared how companies can personalise every customer touchpoint, and optimise for every user in real time.
Attendees then explored Refining your Consumer Journeys to Drive Engagement & Sales. The thought provoking keynote was delivered by Chiara Pavan, Senior eCommerce Product Manager at Parfois, and she emphasised the importance of human-centric design in achieving ecommerce goals, an observation which was very well received by the delegates.
Tumblr media
Next was thought leadership from the high qualified VP Revenue at Optimove, Moshe Demri, who shared The Secret to Loyalty in Retail: How to Turn your One-timers into Repeat Buyers. Did you know that 59% of customers do not make a second purchase? Many, including myself, were surprised at the scale of this missed opportunity. Moshe shared some tips on how to turn one-timers into repeat purchasers.
Tumblr media
Our next fireside chat was about Delivering a Great Online Consumer Experience. In the age of the customer, nothing is more important than customer experience. But what exactly is a great customer experience, and how do you deliver it in 2019 and beyond? Experts Reyes Eguilior Massó, EMEA Customer Service Manager at Alpargatas Europe, Raúl Rivero, eCommerce Manager Spain at PepsiCo, and Eloy Mariaud, Director Digital & eCommerce at Douglas, shared some great insights to a packed house.
Another exciting session came from two adventurous speakers from Contentsquare who volunteered a live demo to showcase How UX Analytics & AI are Helping Companies Improve Their Conversion Rates & Revenue. Frederic Kingue Johnson, Regional Head of Sales for South West Europe and Loïc Mocellin, Sales Director for Spain and Portugal revealed that it had been prepared during a long delay at the airport. It was thrilling to see the on-screen analysis of user engagement KPIs overlaid on a sample website in realtime.
Tumblr media
The next keynote came from Eloy Mariaud, Director Digital & eCommerce at Douglas. He shared many excellent insights about Collecting the Right Big Data to Make Better Business Decisions & Make Your Digital Channel Profitable. It’s not just about big data, but about using the right big data for your business insights, and Eloy helped the delegates to understand the killer KPIs which can help them succeed.
Tumblr media
Jesus Izquierdo, Sales Director for Western Europe from TVPage, delivered a session on how ecommerce with videos is much better. Ultimately, integrating videos into your sales funnel to drive conversion rates. He took us on a lightening speed tour of the TVPage portfolio, highlighting how product-related videos increase the likelihood of purchasing your product.
Tumblr media
For the final part of the day, Expanding your Business with Cutting-Edge Tech & Platforms, we started with two exciting ecommerce start-up demos.
First, Paco Tormo, Co-Founder & CEO of Singularu, gave a engaging showcase of their product, “We sell joy, retail is about having fun!” Next Borja Duran, Co-Founder & CEO of Comovita.eu, revealed that “Sustainability is the new sexy!” a sentiment our delegates agreed with!
Finally, we had a panel which explored Combining AI & Immersive Technology for More Efficient Online Sales. Moderator Yolanda Martin, Director of Platform & Service Design at Farfetch, expertly guided a conversation with Antonella Girone, International eCommerce & Digital Marketing Manager at Salewa, and Maria Montoro Iniesta, Head of eCommerce at Proyecto 1785.
Tumblr media
Day Two
The theme of day two was Understanding & Fulfilling Consumer Expectations to Build Loyalty, and the morning was dedicated to the theme of Blending Online & Offline to Create an Integrated ‘Phygital’ Experience.
Our incredibly engaging opening keynote from Lluis Martinez Ribes, Associate Professor at ESADE Business School, explored using neuroscience to shape a brain-pleasing customer experience for “OnOff customers”. He explained how mobile handsets now our “e-bodies,” are blurring the distinction between online and offline, changing consumers’ purchasing behaviour and creating an OnOff reality.
Tumblr media
Next a wonderful panel discussed Optimising Online-to-Offline Marketing to Improve Brand Awareness, with moderator Damien Poelhekke, Managing Director at MADE.COM, joined by panellists: Ines Rios, Head of Brand Marketing Digital & Customer Experience at Intu Xanadu, Virginia Casillas Santos, eCommerce Manager at Pernod Ricard, and Nico Bour from Uvinum.
A keynote then examined Trends & Best Practice in Personal Care eCommerce, and the delegates enjoyed an example of the gold standard in physical-digital integration from Yago Llaquet, Head of Digital Transformation Iberia & EMEA Digital Lead at Bayer.
The next two sessions were all about Building Trust & Loyalty Around your Brand. First we had three dynamic rotating roundtables hosted by Yolanda Martin, Carolina Agudo and Damien Poelhekke, then Paco Tormo returned to the stage to chair a fireside chat with Borja Durán and Raquel Notario Goñi, Head of Social Media at Carrefour España, to discuss Online Channels & Tech Solutions that Build Trust & Loyalty in Shoppers.
Tumblr media
Our final section was all about Logistics 4.0 – Delivering on your eCommerce Strategy. Guillem Perez, the Head of Supply Chain & Customer Experience at Colvin, delivered the final keynote of the event about Building a Delivery Strategy that Encourages Online Sales & Repeat Custom.
My main takeaway from the event was the importance of not only using good UX driven business techniques, such as modelling the customer lifetime value (CLV) to understand where marketing investments were the most effective, but also acknowledging the broader shift towards understanding CLVs – what makes them tick? What are their passions? Do they care about the environment and about social impact? Sustainability is indeed the new sexy. Smart retailers and etailers today are ensuring not only that the table-stakes are met with the best technology on the market, but that they use an empathetic view of each individual customer to deliver a frictionless omnichannel CX, serve the emotional needs of their consumers and resonate with their social values.

Your inside look at SMX East
Tumblr media
Search Engine Land’s SMX® East, the go-to event for serious search marketers, returns to New York City next month — November 13-14.
This year’s agenda, featuring 100+ search marketing presentations and two new tracks devoted to agency operations and local search for multi-location brands, is loaded with actionable tactics you can implement immediately to drive more awareness, traffic, and conversions. It’s the biggest agenda the Search Engine Land experts have ever created.
If you work in SEO, SEM, content marketing, social media or any other customer-facing activity — if you work at an agency or for a brand that managers multiple locations — you can’t afford to miss this conference.
Keep reading for your big SMX East preview… and book your pass now to enjoy up to $300 off on-site rates!
3 Insightful SEO & SEM Keynotes Rand Fishkin will kick things off Wednesday, November 13 with his keynote, From Everyone’s Search Engine to Everyone’s Competitor. In years past, Google has been the largest driver of traffic to almost every web-based business in existence. Today, that’s still true, but a strange new trend is rearing its head – Google’s becoming your primary competitor. From travel to sports, reference to news, and answers on every topic, the search giant is working harder than ever to keep searchers on Google rather than sending them to your sites. In his keynote, Rand will show, via clickstream data from tens of millions of devices, how the landscape of the web is shifting, and how to compete against Google in a game they control.
Immediately following Rand’s SEO keynote is a special SEM keynote conversation with Microsoft Ads: Smarter Customer Journeys: The ABCs of CX (Customer Experience). The future of marketing is understanding the Customer Experience Quotient (CXQ) that is leveraging all of the data and insights into the customer journey and then applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize the customer experience and improve marketing performance. Join Christi Olson, Head of Evangelism at Microsoft Advertising, and moderator Ginny Marvin, Search Engine Land’s Editor-in-Chief, for a discussion on the ABCs of CXQ and learn how to reduce the growing gap between the 20% of businesses that have managed to achieve a high customer experience quotient.
The following morning, Thursday, November 14, will begin with another SEM keynote — this time from Google: Advance Your Omnichannel Strategy for the Holiday Season and Beyond. With more connected devices and digital touchpoints, customer journeys have become more complex. In order to gain customers and drive results across channels, it’s critical to measure and optimize for both online and offline sales. Join Google’s Zack Bailey, Head of Omnichannel Solutions, and Irem Erkaya, Global Product Lead, together with moderator Ginny Marvin, to discover how machine learning and automation can help you optimize for omnichannel success at scale for the holiday season and beyond.

SMX workshops, held Tuesday, November 12 from 9:00am – 5:00pm, offer a level of immersive training that you won’t find anywhere else. Each course is led by recognized industry experts. Choose from:
Content Marketing for SEO (New!). Struggling to get your marketing team on board with why and how to do content marketing for SEO — in such a way that helps achieve organic growth? This workshop is for you. Speaker, author, and leading expert Michael Brenner will discuss the SEO context and business case for content marketing. He’ll walk you through a roadmap that any SEO expert can use to get their marketing teams on board to deliver the organic reach, engagement, and conversions clients demand. Workshop Presenter: Michael Brenner.
Video for Search Marketers (New!). Video is dominating the content landscape, but because traditional video production is expensive, complicated, and slow, it’s often underutilized by many search marketers. Join marketing and video expert Michael Hoffman for a full-day workshop exploring the best practices and secret hacks for making video a powerful driver of both organic and paid search programs. You will also learn how to leverage new and lower-cost ways to produce video that you can use to quickly scale your video marketing campaigns. Workshop Presenters: Michael Hoffman & Rami Atassi.
In-House SEO Exchange. Join Jessica Bowman for a full-day of “open the kimono” knowledge sharing in the only event designed by in-house SEOs for in-house SEOs. Because attendees are all in-house SEOs, the walls come down and you get to talk to the people actually doing SEO at the big brands, build relationships, and share solutions that you would normally only hear behind closed doors. There is no other workshop with this level of sharing! Workshop Presenter: Jessica Bowman.
Advanced SEO Training. Spend a day with a master SEO and come away with cutting-edge SEO techniques – tackling RankBrain, voice search, AMP, featured snippets, and more – that can help raise your rankings and visibility in search engines. Workshop Presenter: Bruce Clay.
Advanced Google Ads Training. Even with all of the new marketing channels that have opened up over the years, Google Ads (formerly AdWords) is still the core of many companies’ interactive campaigns. If your PPC campaigns are not running efficiently, it can have a drastic impact on your bottom line. Join Brad Geddes for a full day of advanced Google Ads training and discussion that will teach you not only the best practices but also advanced concepts and strategies that are based on a decade of research and testing. Workshop Presenter: Brad Geddes.
Hardcore Technical SEO Tactics & Techniques. Do you deal with big SEO problems? Do you work in a large enterprise, or have a site with millions (or billions) of web pages? If so, the basic SEO training material is not what you’re looking for. You’re looking for the master class, the one that is loaded with advanced content. Topics include how to analyze and solve a variety of thorny technical SEO challenges, how to create and implement progressive web apps, PWAMPs, how to understand the impact of machine learning and AI on search. Workshop Presenter: Eric Enge.
These workshops include breakfast, lunch, and refreshment breaks. Bundle your workshop with an All Access pass for maximum value and $300 off on-site rates.
New to the industry? Our Search Marketing Boot Camp is perfect for beginners looking to get a foothold on the basics. Fundamental sessions include:

How Honda and Hyundai Are Driving Meaningful Customer Experiences
The following article is by Jim Hoostal, Executive Director, Automotive at Interbrand:
Auto dealers, OEM brands, finance providers and tier one suppliers anticipate massive changes in the automotive industry over the next few years. Technology and emerging entrants into this category are redefining how consumers shop, buy, own, use, and drive cars and, thus, the industry has to react.
TLS Summits, an event organizer that focuses on providing summits that are exclusive, relevant and industry-focused for automotive industry leaders, hosted the Automotive CX Summit in June to focus on these changes.
The interactive two-day event featured industry thought leaders providing their insights on how to successfully solve the challenges the industry is facing by leveraging customer experience, social media, marketing, data analytics, mobility, and service strategies. The agenda consisted of a wide array of industry experts, all with a unique perspective on the topic.
It’s likely not a surprise to many that the automotive retail experience hasn’t met—and still doesn’t always meet—the expectations of modern consumers. Speed, transparency and technology have improved the experience in nearly every other industry, but the car-purchasing process has barely evolved over the years. Dean Evans, CMO of Hyundai Motor America, talked about how Hyundai and its U.S. dealer body are becoming the first car company to modernize the car buying experience with a comprehensive retail-focused initiative.
youtube
Called “Shopper Assurance,” this new program is positioning Hyundai as a brand that is transforming automotive retail to better meet consumer expectations which, in turn, will drive higher sales and grow market share. Hyundai leveraged data and insights that to make this significant shift, and collaboration with its dealer body made it a reality. Data and analytics, as well as collaboration, are key themes that enable successful shifts to meet the needs of the evolving consumer.

While new marketing technologies can offer promises of improved efficiency and attribution, building a strong automotive brand still starts with creating strong consideration. Tom Peyton, AVP of Marketing Operations for American Honda Motor Co., addressed several recent marketing challenges Honda has encountered and how they overcame them by maintaining their unrelenting commitment to have the most satisfied customers in the industry.
Thomas J. Peyton from Honda here at #AutomotiveCXSummit shared his thought that struck a cord. Honda starts with the product the consumer wants to buy… #Automotive #Brand pic.twitter.com/aA8sqvpReB

Peyton shared that central to Honda’s brand building efforts are its product development strategy and focus on achieving retail sales leadership within each vehicle segment in which the brand competes. Honda maintains a retail focused strategy (vs. fleet sales) which pays off in higher resale values for their customers at trade-in time, and ultimately lowers Honda’s vehicle incentives costs, all contributing to the brand’s long-term value.
These are two examples of what leading auto brands are doing today, and they’re just getting started. Nearly every day, headlines talk about major changes that will impact all facets of retail, and the automotive industry isn’t immune to those changes. Although this industry has experienced success operating on a tried-and-true model, transformational change is on the horizon.
What if we bring the car shopping experience to the consumer. @Interbrand @Ryanbrazelton #AutomotiveCXSummit @Foxdealerinc pic.twitter.com/c6mjuqvnUF
— April Rain (@April_Rain) June 20, 2018
As Ryan Brazelton, Executive Creative Director at Interbrand, discussed in his presentation on The Future of Retail, there is change happening from every direction—new technologies, new entrants, new business models, new customer expectations—and, as a result, automotive brands and their retailers need to evolve and develop new strategies to resonate with consumers in new disruptive ways. It’s no longer about selling a car; these players must become mobility providers.
Engaging consumers in this new world is dependent on delivering customer experiences that meet increasingly demanding expectations. These experiences have to be achieved in a way that is relevant, yet profitable, and achieving this is becoming progressively more challenging.
The TLS Automotive CX Summit provided a forum to discuss these imminent shifts, changes that are currently taking place, and speculations of what the future holds. Addressing these challenges in the automotive marketplace requires technology to digitize and automate processes, as well as consumer-centric strategies that leverage data, customer insights and cultural change.

Expert Insight: The Role of Budget in Achieving Key Marketing Objectives [Interview]
The majority of marketers are confident that they will reach their main objectives in the calendar year, but despite this fact, new research suggests that their budget is still holding them back from exceeding expectations. This is according to the “Reshaping Global Engagement Operations” report, as published by The CMO Council.
For more insight into why this may be the case, we spoke to The CMO Council’s Liz Miller.
The majority of marketers (43%) said that they were “fairly confident” — but not “exceedingly confident” — that they will achieve their strategic goals for the year. Why do you think that this percentage was not higher?
I think more marketers are realists, perhaps understanding that the more things we predict, the more things are unpredictable. I also think marketers are feeling the strain of all the things we can’t or don’t control including things like obtaining that critical single view of the customer that extends beyond marketing-controlled data repositories.
We are confident in dreaming up all of the rich personalized brand experiences based on data we control and delivered through channels we control…but step outside those walls and into the overarching dynamic of the company at large…things get a little less predictable and confidence can waiver. Then ask how well we know all of the local markets that will translate into long term growth…well then all confidence goes out the window.
59% of marketers said that budget limitations were their top issue impacting their organization’s ability to meet the strategic goal of growth. Do you see this changing at all in the future? Why or why not?
This is a great question…and one with no easy answer. For some organizations, I think the budget issue will diminish over time as smart investments into foundational people, platforms and process will begin to deliver the returns that have been expected.
Growth today is a multi-pronged journey, but the fuel that gets us going and accelerates our adventure will always come back to the systems that deliver the data, the people that turn that crude oil into intelligence and the process that take that intelligence and deliver incredible brand experiences across the entirety of the omni-channel landscape.
Those brands will stop seeing budget shortfalls and start reinvesting returns. Now…the “other side” of that picture are brands selectively investing in shiny, burning or random areas. These organizations will always have budget shortcomings and will always lament that the path to success has been blocked by the land of no…aka the CFO.
Only 20% of marketers said they were prepared to meet the needs of the modern customer. Why do you think this is the case? How do you think marketers can improve?
For so many of the CMOs we speak with, the challenge is often trying to fit customer-centered, dynamic, bi-directional, holistic brand experiences and customer engagement into a traditional, siloed, sales-driven, product centric process and operations. Round customer…square enterprise.
This is why so many CMOs have not only taken on the mantle of CX orchestrator and growth driver but also as change agent, working cross-functionally to break down the traditional lanes that kept operational focus on the product or sales goals and orchestrating freshly empowered LOB and functional peers to drive centers of excellence around the customer instead of thru them.
Sounds like a LOT of jargon I know…but CMOs have long been asked to tackle an issue that can’t just be solved with better marketing. They have to serve as a change agent that can rally an enterprise around a new strategy and mindset.
The CEO has, hopefully, set and communicated that agenda…now the CMO must rally the troops without threatening individual authority. That’s a tough agenda item to add onto an already full docket. But we are seeing success which is why I believe you HAVE 20% of marketers feeling super confident in their strategies to meet customer needs as they flex, evolve and continue to advance.
The majority of marketers (52%) said that their top strategic focus in the coming year is to drive growth through digital transformation and modernization. Do you see most marketers achieving this goal within the next 12 months? Why or why not?
No, but not because they won’t achieve growth or won’t experience great success over the next 12 months. The finish line of achievement will just keep moving mainly because it is being dictated by a constantly evolving customer. Transformation just is not a destination…it is a constant state of being.
The sooner we all get comfortable with that, the easier achieving what modernization means for our organizations and our customers can become.
CX is the new hamster wheel…only problem is that our customer is that kid hopped up on Kool-aid spinning the wheel while laughing maniacally as we just keep running. For for marketers and their organizations to be successful, we need to start enjoying the run and be prepared to be on the wheel for a long, long time.
Among most modern customers (57%), data security, privacy and accountability are their top demands. Do you see this changing at all in the near future? Why or why not?
I actually see this accelerating and spreading. GDPR, while a giant groan and eye-rolling headache for most CIOs, CTOs, CISOs and CMOs was an amazing learning curve and opportunity for education for consumers. Customers now have a better understanding of how organizations can, should and will utilize their data and what they can, should and will get in return by way of value.
Before, so many customers were skeptics, likely more full of fear than loathing over what was being done to their private data. But thanks to the massive investments into public education over GDPR regulations, how to file complaints and what is and is not a violation, data became a bit less scary. I think as other countries, states and regions establish their own legislation around data and privacy, hopefully investing in similar approaches to education the public, data will some being so mysterious and terrifying…and accountability will be an expectation with a clear reward and penalty.
What was the most interesting finding/statistic in the report, in your opinion? Only 17% of marketers believe their operational models are totally aligned with their agency partners…17%! That is a significant misalignment that comes with a massive price tag…and a significant call to action for both marketers and agencies. A change needs to happen on both sides of the equation.
