The sketch linework for the heads of sauropodal dicynodontids. Part of the Armorbeast group of dicynodontids, the sauropodal dicynodontids are closely related to the stegosaurin group of armorbeast dicynodontids and are the least armored group out of all the armorbeasts. Not only are these dicynodontids the largest out of all Atterran dicynodontids, but also some of the most derived. The snoods of the sauropodal dicynodontids over the course of their evolution developed more and more fine muscle attachments and nerve endings until they developed into twin fully functional trunks. The nostrils of these dicynotontids were pushed back to the back of their snoods in order to make way for the muscle attachments of their trunks. These trunks are used both for display and foraging for food within the middle canopy of forests. Due to competition with Atterran sauropods and smaller beaked sauropodal wyvernids, these armorbeast are few regulated to foraging the middle canopy for food resources while the other two groups feed on the upper and lower canopy where their ranges overlap. Atterran scholars divided these dicynodontids into three genus based on skull morphology and the armor plating on their necks and bodies. These armorbeast are found in the savannahs, forests, and jungles of the eastern and Ashian island continent while it was connected to the mainland during the last iceage.

this clip makes me so emotional. i feel like this sometimes, at night especially. That the whole wide world may swallow me whole. That i’m wide-eyed in the face of God. that I’m not a victim of smallness but rather its loving disciple.

are we sure this is a dog and not some sort of advanced fursuit.
I can't find my old post about animals that look like muppets, but behold the first new addition that meets my rigorously high standards in several years

I’ll never forget the first mouse I held. I was like 9 or 10, and we lived out in the country. I looked outside the back door one night and saw my kitten playing with something. I turned on the porch light and saw she had a mouse (I think it was a deer mouse, so most definitely not the kind to have ever been domesticated). I opened the door, shooed her inside, and picked up the mouse. I remember it just sitting in my hands looking at me, trying to figure out what happened. It then jumped out of my hands and scampered into the dark.
Mice are neat little creatures. I’ve worked with so many throughout my career. Some are lovely and docile and curious. Some are absolutely rude and will fight you tooth and nail, even if you’re picking them up to figure out if they’re okay.
I’ve trained a lot of people how to handle mice, and the people who are afraid or nervous about handling them are the most rewarding to see progress. The moment it clicks that they’re not so bad, they’re just little creatures is always a great thing to see.
I need you to understand that the very straight and immediate line from someone's very confident "I don't like mice/I've handled mice before so I know what they're like" to joyous wonder as they hold the first calm, friendly mouse they've ever held and murmur "they're so soft/sweet/warm/gentle" practically to themselves is basically a drug
"I work at a petstore," says the young man with much disdain, "so I don't really need to hold another one. I know what they're like."
"These aren't petstore mice," I say, as I turn my hand over and the mouse holds on tighter. "They're not like any mouse you've ever held," I say, as I close my hand gently around the mouse and flip her onto her back for a second so I can touch her mouth and demonstrate how difficult it would be to get one of my mice to bite.
"I'm sure you've handled them extensively from a very young age, though."
"They haven't been handled before today, except to be moved into clean cages." She arranges herself in my hand and cleans her face. "Are you sure you don't want to hold one?"
He opens his hands, and she pours from my hand into his like a viscous liquid. She is soft and warm and sweet, and his entire face lights up when she hunkers down onto his warm hand and closes her eyes.
"....She's changing my mind."
"They tend to do that when you leave it open."
He took her and two companions home.
