During the meeting with my advisor, we discussed what direction I would go with my capstone project. When I was originally filling out the agreement form, I began to think that I would compare art and sport in terms of the physical abilities needed in order to make a piece of artwork or pursue a game objective. However, during the meeting we discussed expending the relationship between art and sport by continuing to look at ballet and football, but in terms of physicality, cognition, and the time spent practicing /preparing for optimal performance. Proceeding with my project, I plan to do some extra research on the primary parts/areas of the brain that are utilized most by a ballet dancer and a football player and compare my findings. I expect to see a difference in in the amount of activity in the various lobes of the brain. For example, a dancer would probably experience more activity in the temporal lobe considering they have to listen to the music in order to interpret what movement to execute on what beat count. On the other hand, a football player may experience more activity in the frontal lobe due to the fact that they have to problem solve on their feet depending on what is happening in a game. Either way, the evident thinking processes demonstrate some level of cognitive ability. Also, I plan to research the typical lifestyles of both a ballet dancer and a football player. I will look at factor ranging from their diets to the approximate amount of time they spend practice/ how much practice is predicted until someone can be deemed an expert. The only question that I have at tis point is are the specifics in my project subject to change if I find that something is not working?

Final Advising Meeting
In 3-4 sentences, please describe what was discussed during your meeting.
Because ArtsFest is over and my project is completed, most of what Bimbola and I discussed was about reflecting on my project. I decided that the only regret I had was not planning out my color scheme, because one side of the piece has more contrast than I’d like it to. Overall, we both agreed that my final product was very successful and that I learned a lot about visual art through the process.
We also talked about how we tend to plan visual art without thinking that the project is going to change, and discussed how having class time and feedback from peers helped get rid of this mentality. I thought the feedback from my peers was incredibly helpful, and actually completely changed the way I completed my piece.
In 3-4 sentences, please explain what the next steps you will take with your project will be.
The only event left is academic showcase, and my project is finished, so I don’t actually have any more work to complete/steps to take with my project.
Please use the space below to indicate any further questions, concerns, or confusions that were NOT addressed during the meeting.
I have no more questions!

NAME: Briley Hebner
ADVISOR: Bimbola
MEETING DATE & TIME: Wednesday April 11th, 2018 @ 3pm
In 3-4 sentences, please describe what was discussed during your meeting.
We talked about my place in the project and how much I have accumulated through the interviews/google survey and what I needed to do before Arts Fest. Because I have been so busy the project is not what I originally intended, but I am beginning the process of painting and executing the visual themes. Bimbola told me that the most important thing now is to just work hard and paint until I have a product that I am proud of, and to not be constrained to a specific number of paintings in my head.
In 3-4 sentences, please explain what the next steps you will take with your project will be.
Looking ahead, I only have about a week before ArtsFest and I need to continue painting and forming a series of visual pieces that represent the themes from the google survey. Then I need to form and edit my artist statement and labels and submit those online by the 25th. Because I am not doing a poster I need to practice an outline of information that I want to talk about when I show my work so that people can see the research that I did beyond the paintings.

Finished my first piktochart so now it will be easy to model for the other 2 lessons! At my advising meeting I started to figure out my poster design. I can do landscape and fit 4 piktocharts (1 overview, 3 lessons), or vertical (3 lessons). I also have to decide how I want to display my art projects (with easels or pinned on the wall).

CPSA250: Conference Report
NAME: Kelsy Song
ADVISOR: Montse
MEETING DATE & TIME: April 5th, 4:10pm
In 3-4 sentences, please describe what was discussed during your meeting.
During the meeting, the progress of my capstone, the arrangement of my photos for Arts Fest/Academic Showcase, and the editing of my photos was discussed. According to the timeline that I created in my final learning agreement, I’m currently on track for finishing the project a few days before Arts Fest. I have 30 photos although I’ll most likely cut it down to 24 photos and I’ll print them from CVS using the 60-minute option in the 5in by 7in size. I might construct frames for each photo if I have time and if not, then I’ll display them on a panel simply in the order of least recent photoshoot to most recent photoshoot to show my personal growth in photography. I’ll only edit 5-6 of the photos with Photoshop and focus on increasing the contrast, vibrancy and clarity of the images. I’ll also crop certain images rather than edit out backgrounds to save time and play around with the color balance in the photo.
In 3-4 sentences, please explain what the next steps you will take with your project will be.
I plan to finish selecting the final photos and finish editing with Photoshop by April 13th and then print them on April 14th. Then I’ll finalize the descriptions for each of the photos (clothing item – store bought from) and print it out on April 15th. Next, I’ll work on creating an artist statement to describe my project and what I hope to gain from it. I’ll include the steps I took to improve my photography skills regarding fashion photography such as moving from manual settings to auto settings and speeding up the shutter speed to capture the movement of hair blowing or someone jumping.

NAME: Jaeah Kim
ADVISOR: Montse
MEETING DATE & TIME: Feb.22, 5:10PM
In 3-4 sentences, please describe what was discussed during your meeting.
We discussed final Capstone ideas; I was considering changing my Capstone project, but after discussing it at the advisor meeting, decided against it. Montse helped me refine my original Capstone idea so that it could be more engaging to myself. We also discussed what a Capstone project should be like (i.e. Challenging, engaging, creative, and something worthwhile to myself and to the community).

NAME: Miranda Morris
ADVISOR: Bimbola Akinbola
MEETING DATE & TIME: February 8, 2018
During our meeting we discussed how to push the engagement component of my capstone project further by allowing the viewer to manipulate the artwork in other ways besides rearranging shadow shape pieces. There could be a social aspect of the interactivity, such as viewers writing their own experiences on the shadow shape pieces or in the “comments” section of the Instagram backdrop.
Also, Bimbola advised me to rewrite most of my learning objectives to make them less specific and more macro. Originally, they were written as almost a timeline for the project, rather than overarching goals and themes.
Please use the space below to indicate any further questions, concerns, or confusions that were NOT addressed during the meeting.
· How can I present this at ArtsFest in a meaningful way other than just leaving it out for viewers to pass by?

I’ve picked my third song! Breezin’ by George Benson. This song, from the 70s, is definitely more of a jazz-pop-funk fusion tune, but there are directly influences from the jazz greats before Benson, and will be great to illuminate the breaking down of genre walls.

In 3-4 sentences, please describe what was discussed during your meeting.
Bimbola and I discussed the background of my project and my creative process so far. She also helped me realize some limitations I had set for myself, like trying to only choose from poems to base my project on. While describing a story that I found a poem in, Bimbola suggested that I use the whole story instead of just the poem, and I think this really helped in that it made me realize it’s my project and I don’t have to stick to my original plan if I find a better idea. She also suggested I use color in the final project, and because I am not a very skilled visual artist, we discussed some mediums that would be good for me as a beginner (we settled on trying Prisma colored pencils).
In 3-4 sentences, please explain what the next steps you will take with your project will be.
I plan to change my timeline slightly. Originally, I planned to sketch and practice drawing different plants and flowers that I might want in my final, but I think it makes more sense to switch those steps. It would be good to plan out exactly what I want in my picture, and then to practice drawing those specific elements. My next step will be to research flowers, plants, and any other elements I want in my garden, and then draw my “architectural sketch” so I have a layout of exactly what I want. After that, I need to practice each element separately before putting them in a final project.
Please use the space below to indicate any further questions, concerns, or confusions that were NOT addressed during the meeting.
I have no questions right now, the meeting was very helpful!

This week I am attempting to organize my materials and the responses that I have gotten on my google survey from people on campus. Watching a video promoted by the Scholars Community I thought it would be a good idea to investigate what the goal of Scholars was to its current and future students and compare that to responses I got on the survey. In the next week I hope to finalize sketches and transfer them to canvas so that I can begin painting next weekend.

advisor report
In 3-4 sentences, please describe what was discussed during your meeting.
We talked about my plans moving forward with the game (general format and ideas) as well as scheduling. Since I’m working with someone else, there is reason for concern at how we are going to handle the workload. Also, we talked about how my goals for the project can be more clear.
In 3-4 sentences, please explain what the next steps you will take with your project will be.
I will begin with the functionality of the meat of the game (the middle sections, ignoring exposition & ending sequences). Along the way, I will write the music and pair it to each subsection. Finally, I will add the beginning and end of the game, and then make the art more interesting if time permits.
