A few victories today. After being cleared by my physician and people we spoke to on the Mass COVID Response Team, Will and I have been told we’re safe to do our own shopping and go on walks again. My appeal to unemployment insurance was accepted and I got all the back money I was due. AND I was able to smell these glorious lilacs. My smell is finally coming back! 🌳🌳🌳 This pandemic has made clearer than ever a) how crucial time outside to exercise and absorb the sun is for mental and physical health, and b) how much less available that is to people who are quarantining who are not wealthy enough to have access to their own outdoor space. Will and I live in a pretty small apartment on the outskirts of Boston, and it was extremely trying during our illness to not be able to go outside because we had no outdoor space of our own - no yard, no balcony, no street-facing window with a breeze. The thought of having a yard or even a strip of lawn to sit on and read in the sun made me almost cry with longing. I can’t imagine how much worse it is for people living in an even more densely settled area than us. The ability to socially distance is dependent on how much space you have access to, and that’s important for us all to keep in mind. 🌷🌷🌷 Anyway, I’m so grateful some things paining me finally got resolved, that we can again enjoy the outdoors, and that I won’t miss smelling all the spring flowers.
