Hello! :) The Bone season looks so intriguing! But I saw you that you said it sucks - so would you mind sharing what you didn't like about it?

Here is my review comparing the old version and the updated anniversary edition. Here and here are my live blogs from this year and my first read in 2019 (turns out I messed up the tag the second time around whoops). And here is specifically the anniversary liveblog.

I have. So many qualms with The Bone Season. I'm looking for the anniversary editions of the other books because this was admittedly a fun project and I'd like to continue it, but UGH. There is SO much potential in this world and FOR WHAT!!!!!!! A shitty romance?? Enslaving humanity by a secret society pulling all the governmental strings?? ICK.

I also have issues with how Paige's sexuality was handled in book one (I don't know how it progresses in the series, which is one reason I'd like to source the new versions but I don't want to pay cover price lmao) particularly in the updated version. I'm pretty sure I have a post dedicated to it, but I get it okay. As an asexual person who put themselves in situations I was uncomfortable with only because I thought This Is What People Do (masking where lmao) I GET IT! I STILL HATED HOW THAT BAR SCENE WAS HANDLED! I haven't pinpointed why, exactly. I think it's what triggered the scene? She only tried to hook up with a rando because her crush rejected her???? idk. Blegh.

And on top of that. She somehow, falls in love with her slaver??????? but its A Okay because akshully! He thinks this is wrong! He just SO HAPPENS to be one of like five of the immortals who thinks humans are people too.

Oh also. Their big plot to escape the salve camp is exposed because Paige just can't help but kiss Warden :)))) but yeah shes totally ace lmao (i know i know asexuality is a spectrum etc etc if you want good ace and demi rep read Little Thieves).

I said it back in 2019 and I will continue to say it. Take the rephaim away. Focus on the magic and the syndicate. You have a GREAT novel there it's just being overshadowed by the bullshit slave slaver love nonsense.
