actually i just got home and realised i’m too lazy to rlly talk abt the movie jungle cruise Like That LMAO i would just like to say that idk if it’s because it’s that genre of ‘white scholar/archaeologist/historian/treasure hunter that has been learning abt mysterious legend of insert indigenous ethnic group here since they were a wee babe now decides to go out on adventure to find the relevant special item for themselves/scientific research/the betterment of the world’ movie (a la indiana jones or the mummy, according to some reviews i just read lol) and that anything w that premise is gonna be pretty much inherently racist n flawed but i can’t believe those kinds of narratives r still used n presented as uncritically/earnestly as it was in this 2021 movie… like come on man 😭😭😭

#x #funnily enough despite the entire premise being obvious garbage and the way the interaction w the insert ethnic indigenous group being #questionable as all godamn hell the movie was admittedly entertaining. ive never seen indiana jones or the mummy or other similar types bc #they never appealed to me like that but if they’re along the same vein as humour n action as this one then ig their popularity makes sense #my favourite character was the pet leopard. próxima my beloved it was so cute #also i went into this movie knowing absolutely nothing n was very surprised to realise dwayne the rock johnson was gonna be the main LO in #it SNKDNDKD hes usually fun in movies #not a fan of him playing a spanish conquistador. bad. kinda spoiled his otherwise pretty harmless character for me #also the twist was a lil surprising but made sense in retrospect #let’s not talk abt how the indigenous amazon group was portrayed its. like it was clear they were going for a subversión of the usual #‘ancient indigenous tribe backwards evil cannibals’ but idk didn’t sit right w me. being played for laughs like that was. GAH #MOST AMUSING PART I MUST SAY was the main characters brother being introduced as this wimpy effeminate dandy from 1910 n me going like ‘oh #okay they’re gonna go do the whole heavily gay coded coward stereotype to contrast the more bold/masc sister’ AND THEN THEY ACTUALLY #CONFIRMED THE CHARACTER WAS ACTUALLY GAY??? TWO homos in a single movie. this is true gay rep #that whole last part was joking/sarcastic btw it was very funny but that’s about it LOL #anyways i went through some of the tag just now to see what other ppl were saying abt the movie n cannot believe there’s not More ppl talkin #abt how kinda racist garbage it was you’d think of there was gonna be any of this type of criticism it’d be here but alas #anyways. final thoughts. it was an entertaining n funny movie i loved the leopard and the banter between the main leads was aight n the #action scenes were pretty good. terrible premise and would not recommend tho. don’t watch it’s not worth the couple of chuckles it might get #out of you. just look up scenes where the leopard appears and that’s it ur good
