Prominent Telugu poet and writer C Narayan Reddy passes away
Eminent Telugu writer, poet and author C Narayan Reddy passed away on Monday in Hyderabad. The popular personality was 85 years old. Known for his command and authority on Telugu literature, C Narayan Reddy was felicitated with the Jnanapith Award in 1988 for his work on Visvambra. The writer was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1992 by the Indian government.

Born in Karimnagar district in Andhra Pradesh, Narayan Reddy was a professor at the prestigious Osmania Unveristy where he also completed his MA and PhD in Telugu literature. Narayan Reddy has also written many songs for Telugu cinema as well. C Narayan Reddy also was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1997 as well.
Songs in super hit films in Telugu of the 60s like Bandipotu, Karna, Manchi Manishi, Atma Bandhuvu and Raktha Sambandham among others include in his writings. The popular “Oohalu Gusa Gusa lade” song from Bandipotu, which is a favourite of many Telugu cinema lovers even today, was penned down by C Narayan Reddy.
Born Cingireddy Narayan Reddy, the eminent poet was fondly called as CiNare by his well-wishers. A lesser known fact about C Narayan Reddy is that he did his schooling mostly in Urdu in an elementary school. Reddy is married Susheela and is survived by four daughters. Interestingly, the couple has named all their daughter by the famous river names – Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and Krishnaveni.
The South Indian film industry is mourning the passing away of this legendary writer.
