THE BOOK OF EXODUS
THE BOOK OF EXODUS
The book of Exodus – Circa B.C.1491 Let us establish how we get to the dates for the Exodus: In 1 Kings 6:1, it is stated that the building of the temple, in the fourth year of Solomon, was in the 480th year after the Exodus. The Fourth year of Solomon was about B.C. 1012. Add 480 years (leaving off one year because neither the fourth year of Solomon nor the 480th was a full year, and we have…

Phocis (fō`sĭs), ancient region of central Greece. It included Delphi, Mt. Parnassus, and Elatea; Boeotia (now Voiotía) was on the east, and the Gulf of Corinth was on the south. After the First Sacred War of c.590 B.C. (“sacred” because it involved the oracle of Delphi), Phocis lost control of Delphi to a council of states. With Athenian help Phocis regained (457 B.C.) hold of Delphi, thus precipitating the Second Sacred War. Early in the next century Phocis passed under Theban control. The Third Sacred War (355–346 B.C.) began with Phocis trying to reestablish itself and ended with the victory of Philip II of Macedon, who thereby became arbiter of Greece.

Defund the Police! Defund the Police?
Defund the Police! Defund the Police?
A scary sight.
The Greek word for city is “polis” (plural: poleis). For the ancient Greeks, the city and the state were the same thing – you were a citizen of Athens or Sparta or Thebes; the pan-Hellenic identity didn’t start to coalesce until the 5th century B.C .
A representation of a typical Greek polis circa 480 B.C.
It’s from polis that we derive the term politics; as well as an…

One of the most important personages in history, known world-wide, Julius Caesar even had portrait coins minted during his life and long after. This article shows a lot of different examples of ancient coins, which can be seen in the video exploring Julius Caesar coins. Clicking on the pictures below searches my eBay ancient coin store for the Julius Caesar keyword. The goal of this guide is to familiarize new collectors and people that consider this as an alternative investment with the types of ancient coins of Julius Caesar available. For silver coins of Julius Caesar and related, I recommend Roman Silver Coins Volume 1 by David R. Sear.

Julius Caesar Lifetime Portrait Coin
Julius Caesar – Roman Dictator – Silver Denarius 19mm (3.89 grams) Struck February-March 44 B.C. P. Sepullius Macer, moneyer Reference: RSC 40; B. 48; B.M.C. 4175; Syd. 1074a; Craw. 480/14 CAESAR DICT PERPETVO, his laureate and veiled head right. P . SEPVLLIVS MACER, Venus Victrix standing left, holding Victory and scepter, star set on ground to right.
Likely the best known portrait coin of Julius Caesar. This coin illustrates Caesar’s break from tradition in forbidding the showing of living individuals on ancient coins. This issue combined with other resentments led to his assassination on March 15th of 44 B.C.
← Julius Caesar Silver Coin featured on Pawn Stars from History Channel TV Show
Last year, I went on the Pawn Stars History Channel TV show with this exact coin. Here is my video of the coin with the story behind it. The episode came out earlier this year, and is entitled “Rick the Emperor”. This made this coin ostensibly the most famous Julius Caesar coin in the world.
Even though this specific item has since sold, I have come across another lifetime Julius Caesar portrait coin. See it here → JULIUS CAESAR Lifetime 44BC Portrait Ancient Silver Roman Coin Venus NGC i58211
Julius Caesar Elephant Coin
Julius Caesar – Roman Dictator – Silver Denarius 21mm (3.55 grams) Struck 49-48 B.C. – Reference: B.9;B.M.C., Gaul, 27; Syd. 1006; Craw. 443/1 – Elephant walking right, trampling on serpent, CAESAR in exergue. Sacrificial implement:: Simpulum, sprinkler, axe and priest’s hat.
The obverse type may symbolize victory over evil, whereas the reverse refers to Caesar’s office of Pontifex Maximus.
Julius Caesar Ceres Coin
Julius Caesar – Roman Dictator – Silver Denarius 18mm (3.68 grams) Struck 46 B.C. Reference: Roman Silver Coins Vol. #4; B. 16; B.M.C., Africa, 23; Syd. 1024; Craw. 467/1b COS. TERT. DICT ITER, head of Ceres right. AVGVR above simpulum, sprinkler, capis and lituus, PONT MAX below, M (Manus) in field.
This coinage was probably struck to pay his successful legions after the battle of Thapsus, 6 April B.C. 46. The head of Ceres is emblematic of Africa and it’s corn-producing wealth. The reverse the reverse refers to Caesar’s office of Pontifex Maximus.
JULIUS CAESAR & AUGUSTUS Dupondius Sestertius 38BC Ancient Roman Coin

Very desirable ancient coin with a portrait of Julius Caesar.
AUGUSTUS victory over BRUTUS CASSIUS assassins of Julius Caesar Roman Coin
Augustus – Roman Emperor: 27 B.C. – 14 A.D. Bronze 19mm (4.58 grams) from the city of Philippi in Northern Greece, Macedonia circa 27 B.C. -10 B.C. Reference: BMC 23; Sear 32 VIC AVG, Victory standing left. 3 legionary Standards, ‘COHOR PRAEPHIL’
Commemorates the battle of Philippi, 42 B.C., in which Octavian and Antony defeated the Republican tyrannicides Brutus and Cassius, who subsequently committed suicide. Augustus later settled the veterans of a Praetorian Cohort at Philippi, and he conferred upon them the right to mint coins, of which this is an example. The images on this coin presumably refer to the Emperor’s above described victory in 42 BC. The winged victory standing on a globe representing the cosmos. Such a coin is delivering, without words but in clear images that everyone would have understood, the message that Augustus now rules the world. All the old political institutions were reestablished and the “dignity” of the Senate was restored, but actual power was now in the hands of one man alone.
MARK ANTONY reconciles Ahenobarbus 40BC Silver Roman Republic Coin Galley

VIR R . P . C ., his bare head right, lituus behind. CN . DOMIT . AHENOBARBVS IMP., prow, star of sixteen rays above.
This piece relates to the reconciliation of Ahenobarbus with Antony.

Goddess of LOVE Aphrodite also Known as VENUS with EROS & CUPID on Ancient Greek Roman Coins
Venus Cupid Aphrodite Eros Ancient Greek and Roman Coins
Coins of the Goddess of Love and her Winged “Angel” of Love
youtube
Venus is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Cupid is the Roman version of the Greek Eros. Both of these colorful characters played significant roles in history. It was the judgement of Paris, naming Aphrodite the “fairest of them all” whom granted him the love of Helen; whose love launched the Trojan war depicted in the Iliad and the Odyssey. Other colorful characters of history such as Julius Caesar had Venus as the patron deity and claimed decent from the goddess herself. Both Venus and Cupid have been depicted on ancient coins of the ancient Greeks and Romans stretching from the B.C. times to even the mid-to-late Roman empire.  She was the mother of the Roman people through the link to her son Aeneas who fled Troy. Her functioned included those of beauty, sex, love, fertility and desire.
Cupid, Greek Eros, translating from Latin word “Cupido” which means “desire” is the god of erotic love, affection, desire and attraction in Roman mythology. He is often depicted together with his mother the goddess Venus.

Being the patron goddess of Julius Caesar, Venus is depicted on many of his coins. However, she is depicted on many other ancient Greek and Roman coins of the ancient times. Many times, her son Cupid is included in her depiction. Venus is also sometimes featured holding the Golden Apple which Paris granted the goddess in the story of the Judgement of Paris. A story that echoes in eternity and associated with the Trojan war. On Roman coins she at times has various functions she does, such as VENUS VICTRIX, or Venus of Victory. The most likely attractive type of Venus to collect is the one that shows her from behind with her half-draped buttocks showing. Enjoy the selection of ancient coins I put together for your pleasure.

SEPVLLIVS MACER, Venus Victrix standing left, holding Victory and scepter, star set on ground to right.Probably the most famous portrait issue of Julius Caesar. This series illustrates the dictator’s break with the Roman custom forbidding the depiction of living individuals on the coinage, which may have contributed to the mounting fears (perhaps justifiable in retrospect) that he wished to do away with republican institutions and establish a new personal monarchy in Rome. These fears, combined with jealousy of his success and power, led to Caesar’s assassination on the Ides of March, 44 B.C. At the same time that the portrait subtly elevates Caesar’s status to that of a king, it also reveals his human frailty: the laurel wreath that Caesar wears was awarded to him by the Senate, but he reportedly wore it in public at all times in order to hide a bald spot.
