Recruitment || Nightwing Imagine
Request:  Hey!! I was wondering if you could do a nightwing x reader where the reader is Harley Quinn and the jokers daughter? The team would try and recruits her and end up taking her by force only to have most of them assume she is crazy and ignore her. But nightwing sees that she could be different and tries to get through to her. He doesn't know that she's struggling with staying cruel to him as much as he's straining to be nice. Sorry it's long. Pleaseeeeee do this!!!! ❤️❤️💕💕
Your shoes pounded the pavement as you dodged the trash can which came in your way. The Gotham alleys remained as dirty as ever and this particular one which you were getting chased down wasn’t an exception. You were still debating as to what exactly you had done to be chased by the precious bird gang of Gotham City. Well your entire existence was blasphemous but that wasn’t really your fault.
Your ears twitched as you heard the familiar sound of a grappling hook getting fired and four pairs of feet tailing you. They sure were dedicated. Hearing something whizzing at you at full speed, it was time for a detour. You took a hard right entering another one of the paths of the maze that is Gotham, dodging what you thought was a bolas. Good trick but this wasn’t the first time someone had thrown one at you.
Caught up in the thought of escaping this, you didn’t see the trip wire laid out and as per your pursuers plan, the trap set into motion making you land on the ground painfully as many wires tied you up. You groaned and lifted up your face expecting them to show themselves.
“There’s no need to be shy,” you drawled. “Please. Step into the light.”
And there they were. Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin and Robin. All of them stood making a semi-circle, looking down at you.
“Hello boys!” You gave them a crooked smile. “You’re all looking so swell!”
Nightwing took a cautious step forward. “We need to talk.”
“Oh undoubtedly! I mean why else would you chase someone for 14 blocks? Certainly not to ask them out to coffee.” You tilted your head, looking straight into Nightwing’s eyes.
“Tt,” Robin spoke up. “This is completely pointless.”
The Red Hood nodded his head. “For once I agree with the brat.”
“Look,” Red Robin came forward, talking reasonably. “None of us are happy to be in this position but we see potential in you-“
“Potential?” you laughed. “Is that what everyone is calling demented these days?”
Nightwing and Red Robin exchanged a glance. You watched them carefully.
“You can stop with your stupid cover up story and just straight out tell me that you’re looking forward to throw me into the Arkham Asylum. None of you are idiots, except for maybe that guy with the stupid looking helmet which has a face on it like seriously man what the hell? It looks ridiculous.” If possible, he looked very offended “Everyone in Gotham knows that I’m the spawn of the worst thing that happened to this city. The Joker.”
“The Joker might be your father-“ Red Hood began.
“He is not my father,” you growled, “He is everything but that. I might be tied up but do not make me kick your ass by saying that again.”
“Duly noted,” Nightwing said. “But everything aside, we are not here to take you to the Asylum. We’re here with an offer.”
“Join us and make the city a better place,” Robin spoke up. “Or continue your life of misery and denying who you really are.”
“Hmm,” you pretended to ponder. “Oh, dear me! What an amazing offer! However, will I say no?!”
“Tt! A low-life like you don’t deserve such an opportunity. Such a waste it would be on you,” Robin snarled.
“Listen short stuff, I have no interest in being a part of the bird watchers group. So why don’t you be a sweet little boy and cut me out so that I can go back to my worthless life.” You rolled your eyes.
“Just consider what this could mean for you,” Red Robin offered.
“Look enough!” you shot at them. “Haven’t you all ever faced rejection before? You will gain nothing in trying to present the matter to me with different perspectives.” You looked at Nightwing. “This is not going to happen.”
Nobody said anything for a while as all eyes were on Nightwing, waiting for what he would say next. “Cut her loose.”
“Wh- but Batman said,” Red Robin tried to say.
“Well it’s not like we have a perfect record of following his orders.” Nightwing turned to Robin. “Cut her loose.”
Robin walked up to you and slashed with his sword, setting you free from all the wires. And without even a backward glance you started to run. Away from all this mess to what you were calling a home these days.
After what seemed like hours, you finally climbed into the window leading to your small disheveled apartment. Shutting the window securely, you walked into the living room and noticed something was off. You quickly grabbed the baseball bat and swung it behind your shoulder before it was blocked by someone very familiar.
“Nightwing,” you sighed. “I told you. I’m done.”
He eased the bat out of your grip. “But I’m not done. Why do you do it? Why do you keep the mean-girl façade?”
“Well isn’t that what everyone expects?” You questioned. “I got the DNA of craziness. It’ll be disappointing if I become a goody two shoes.”
“You don’t have to be someone just because you’re expected to be like that. You are your own person and you’re allowed to choose to become what you want to be.” Nightwing dropped down the bat with a soft thud.
You looked at him for a moment. “Why me?”
“Because you deserve a second chance. To renew yourself. You hate the Joker? Join the club.”
You smiled a little at that. “The big bats is willing to risk that?”
“We’re all misfits in this imperfect world trying to do our best. And you’re no different. Everyone deserves a second chance. But the question is, are you willing to take it?”
Nightwing looked at you intently as the moment between him and you seemed to stretch on forever.
