‘Okay, you weren’t expecting that at all.’ You went back to your work, seeing Maz and him draw closer and closer to your workstation. You could see why Rose used that term; even his presence was intimidating. His hand gently but firmly shook your hand. ‘God, even his hands are huge,’ you thought. You could tell Maz was in a rush as she moved on to show Kylo more of the building.

“Reports looking good?” Maz spoke. 

“Always,” you mused as you went back to work.

Kylo trailed right behind her only to look back at you once from the corner of your eye. He leaned over to say something to Maz. She didn’t glance back but nodded assertion.

What did that mean? Was it your workwear? Was cooperate goth not good enough anymore, you’d be damn to wear those awful brown-colored company polos.

You were a ghost in that company, and you wanted to keep it that way; his attention was the last thing you needed. You were clocked out at 3:30 pm and cleaned the temporary workspace. You had messaged Rose on your break about the CEO. However, you didn’t mention the side conversation you saw with him and Maz. You kept that to yourself, trying not to think too much about it. You took off in your black car, blaring the deep vocals of Peter Steele as you drummed to the beat of the song. You pulled up to the light and waited, softly singing to the chorus of 'My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend’. As you glanced over, you saw him. Kylo. He was in a black convertible, of course, talking to someone on the phone with a narrowed look. Immediately, you turned the other way, avoiding contact. As you waited for the light, you quickly glanced at him, gandering him.

“Hmm, looks like you're made of old money—the quiet type of rich. Oh, check out that watch,” you quietly observed, “Breitling. Not quite a Rolex, though.”

 You turned your attention to the traffic light, and almost incidentally, you saw Kylo glance your way. You gripped onto the steering wheel and kept your eyes forward. 

‘He didn’t see you; he’s just checking out the window.’ You told yourself. 

Thankfully, his light had turned green, and in a roar of the engine, he took off.

You made your way back to your apartment and were greeted by your roommate's corgi, BB8. You gave him a boop on the nose and a little treat.

"Stop giving him treats Y/N, he’s gonna get tubby," Rey chuckled as she slipped on her shoes. You looked at the now-sad pup who shamefully went to his spot and sighed heavily.

 You looked over to BB8, who was now snoring into her blanket. With a chuckle, you got up and went to your room. You had changed into your black oversized tee and sweats as you mindlessly scrolled through social media.

From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)

I give myself a solid 3 stars. I think I can churn out some good stories and smut, but I know I make grammatical errors and sometimes my stories have an awkward flow, but I'm always working to get better. 

What do you think makes your writing stand out from other works?

I’ve been told a few times that I have a good story telling ability; so I think that’s where I shine/stand out/ Being able to take a prompt, a song, or just a few quotes and turn it into a full story.

Are there any writers that inspire you?

Unfortunately, a lot of the writers who inspired me have left tumblr and are lost to time. Some of the ones that are still here are angryschnauzer, tsuntsunfangirl, and caffiened-queen. Some new favourites are Navy, hansensgirl, harryspet, tumblin-theworldaway, and of course all my friends in the server <3

What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

It’s so hard to pick just one so i’ll give two! I’m incredibly proud of my Spooptober 2023 collection. It was a tribute and inspired by Hozier’s newest album, and it was the first time I completed a monthly collection! Easter Bunny is definitely a favourite as well; not only a Lee fic (I love our Sheriff so much) but it was a chance to write some real escapist fluff. 

Which character(s) do you find easiest to write and which do you find most difficult to write?

Loki, Bucky, and Cap are definitely my easiest characters. They’re my ol’ reliables and I love all three of them.

Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?

The obvious answer is: BUCKY lol. But a lot of my fifcs tgend  to be escapism style stories. Bucky coming in to “rescue” the reader in one form or another, even if it’s a dark “rescue”

Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about!

I have 3 long term multi chapter fics planned that I can’t wait to share with everyone (eventually). Two of them are Kylo Ren fics, with one having Kylo Ren as a Director of an art museum, hiring an intern whom Kylo assumes is a guy, but is actually a v cute girl and the other being a Mafia!Kylo with an arranged marriage. The last is a Loki fic with Loki as the CEO of a company who needs a bride to appear good for business purposes. 

First fandom you ever wrote for?

Technically the MCU. The first ever fic I wrote was a Tom Hiddleston fic.

Any guilty pleasure trope(s)?

I admit I don’t really believe in “guilty” pleasures; pleasures should be enjoyed! But man am I a sucker for my dub/non-con, kidnapping, and yandere stories!

A trope you’ll never, ever write for.

I try to not to say “never” because i’m always open to inspiration, but i don’t see myself ever writing anything with pregnancy/babies

Wildest fic you’ve ever written?

I wrote this INSANE fic called “When Magic Meets Insanity” which is a threesome between Loki, Reader, and Jerome Valeska from Gotham. It’s crack to hell and is still available to read on my AO3. 

Favorite pairing to write for? (platonic or romantic!)

Stucky. Always. They are my OTP and I love how fun it is to explore their relationship. Especially throwing Sam into the mix. 

Do you listen to anything while you write?

It mostly depends on what/who i’m writing, but yes! For example, I’ll listen to oldies stuff when I'm writing for Lee, and I have this GREAT Asgardian library ambience for writing Loki.

Have you ever daydreamed about side adventures/spin-offs from your fic? Tell us about them!

Not really, I sometimes imagine what happens after, but once a fic is done, I tend to just put it on a shelf and leave it. It’s why I hardly write sequels

Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?

I long to write some really good multi-chaptered works, but I struggle with writing long term conflict and i’m worried they’ll be awkward and won’t read well. 

What’s the nicest comment you’ve ever received?

The best comment I’ve ever gotten was on my fic Sunlight (Sun God!Steve) from tumblin-theworldaway. She wrote a big huge comment on the fic and it was like the first thing I saw on a monday morning and I needed a good comment. 

Have you ever gone outside of your comfort zone for a fic? How did it turn out?

I won’t say “comfort zone” but I wrote my first ever Monster Fucker fic not too long ago, “By Land or By Sea” about Sea Monster!Loki and it was defintely new and interesting to write! 

Tooth-rotting fluff or merciless angst?

Fluff, always. I’m always a sucker for happy endings (even dark happy endings lol)

Do you have any OCs? Tell us about them!

Sort of. I have a beauty and the beast style novel planned. The beast is a rich lobbyist for oil industries. And the beauty is an indigenous woman who meets the beast at a cabin in the woods. It’s still heavily in development and i’m not sure when it’ll come to fruition. 

If you could enter the universe of any one of your fics, which would it be and why?

“Teddy Bears” for sure. With slightly dark Bucky and Steve kidnapping me (is it kidnapping if i’m willing?? lol) and telling me I don’t have to work and they’ll take care of me? I’d be there in a heartbeat. 

Is there anything you wish your audience knew about your writing or writing process?

I always write stoned lol. I get a ton of creativity and inspiration from weed and it helps make the ideas flow. It just can take a while to interpret all my stoned ramblings sometimes.

This is from my most recently published fic, the last fic in my Spooptober Collection, “To Someone from a Warmer Climate. The fic is about a witch!reader who is visited by a humble sheriff, Lee Bodecker. But he is more than meets the eye.

“Mmmmm…damn…That’s the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. And I just love the taste of the forgetfulness potion you added.”  Your heart dropped into your stomach.                 “What did you say?” He didn’t answer, only leaning back in his chair. He blinked and where crystal blue eyes had seemed to make him handsome and rakish; now were two inky black pits. He blinked again and his eyes were human again, but now his irises were crimson red. You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself. You’d dealt with a few lower-level demons in your travels, but never someone who you could walk through your house’s defenses so easily. Usually, any malevolent force was neutralized before it even touched your house. But he…he was something darker. “I’d heard about a pretty witch living out here in the woods.” Lee continued. “Thought it was just another one of them dippy mortals wearing peace signs. But then that little old lady came in, bringing some brownies she said you’d made. And when I tasted them, I knew for sure. There was a real little witch somewhere in town. “Though it took me a while to find ya, darling. All them wards and runes…you’ve kept yourself pretty well hidden. But when that same sweet little old lady called in, worried about her friend in the woods, I knew I’d found you and here you are. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!

Fanfiction writing has been some of the most fun writing I've ever had. I’ve loved writing for my whole life but sometimes it’s a struggle to write and create an entire cast/world. Fanfiction gives a helping hand to an entire gallery of characters with infinite possibilities. Not to mention the fact that based on “What if” logic, there is a multiverse out there where these fics really happen lol. I look forward to even more writing in the future, both fanfic and original.

Nothing is more disappointing than clicking on a fic for your OTP and it turns out to have what I call OC Stand-In Syndrome, wherein Character A and Character B have had their backgrounds, personalities and motivations changed alongside plopping them in an AU setting to the point where their names are just about the only thing tying them to who they were originally.

To use an example from a fandom I am not in now but saw a lot of this in when I was, take literally any MCU ship. Stony, but Tony and Steve are in the 1950s and Tony is a shy emotionally damaged Omega uwu and Steve is just a nice guy but not the badass who canonically would fight you for more or less any injustice you committed in front of him. Were their names changed to Antonio and Stefan, you would not recognize that they were supposed to be Tony Stark and Steve Rogers at all. Or it's Stucky, but it's a modern day AU and Bucky is a banker who falls for barista Steve and neither have any personality traits in common with their original namesakes outside of being I guess nice and arguably friendly with each other, though of course in addition to their childhood friendship being erased, so has their poverty, plopping them both into comfortable middle class backgrounds often with supportive living families, making them unrecognizable as far as origins go. Clintasha but Clint is a CEO of a company and Nat is a secretary with no dark backstory and they've never met until one day their soul marks activate and they go on a series of dates where they reveal personalities, backstories, interests and desires that do not match canon Clint and Nat to the point where you don't know why these two were chosen as the named characters.

If you want to write original fiction, by all means, go for it. Write your 1950's A/B/O M/M romance with an emotionally broken, shy uwu boy and his skinny sexy chivalrous Alpha. Write that coffee shop M/M middle-class-without-the-uncertainty thing. Write your busy workaholic cutesy secretary who fate has wed to a CEO and aaaah she's so nervous aaah why is this so awkward. Those are things with audiences who will love them and were they not presented to me with the names of other characters on them, I might like them, too.

But when I go looking for A/B fic and I just find a fic with a character borrowing Character A's name and they're into a character borrowing Character B's name, my thought isn't, "Wow, what a great A/B fic!" it's "you must've accidentally used find-and-replace to put in the wrong names on your OCs".

I got out of Reylo for exactly this reason. I like Reylo. I don't like the latest Sad Girl OC with a different backstory and either much more wallflower or viciously snide personality (depending on what the author thinks is cute/cool) and Sad Boy OC who lacks the rage issues, familial issues and ongoing flaws that make Kylo interesting.

And now it's creeping into my latest fandom and I'm just so tired. Please, I just want to read fic of two characters, not two of your OCs who you haven't named yet.

Honestly the whole plot of the starcruiser is wild, but croy’s story taken point by point is a star wars worthy comedy of an arc:

this data analyst determines there's a connection between factions of the resistance and a luxury cruise ship

he gets sent to investigate basically to give him some time away from his screens to touch grass because no one takes him seriously

not only is he correct but actually almost Every Major Resistance Member is somehow involved with this luxury cruise liner in the two(2) days this guy is on it

his boss keeps demanding that he capture enemies of the government over zoom when this dude is completely unarmed and has two to four troopers with him max

he wanders away from the safety of his troopers on a ship crawling with resistance operatives on multiple occasions and at one point literally just. walks right up to fecking Rey to personally berate her

every time he puts someone in prison they break out like five minutes later

he captures a droid that has resistance communications on it, but a lot of what they learn from it is just that there's definitely resistance activity onboard the ship, which they already knew. Also the droid breaks out of prison

keeps getting distracted by his crush on space beyoncé

he shuts down the ship in this epic ordeal with what supporters he has onboard to take over, and the resistance members figure out how to turn it back on again practically the moment he leaves the engineering room

declares himself captain of the cruise ship. it is unclear if he knows how to pilot the cruise ship

through sheer luck survives being strangled by his CEO Kylo Ren then walks directly into the middle of a crowd of people he's about to have fired upon

gets kicked off the cruise ship when the resistance members win and has one of the crewmembers print out a formal little thank you note for his supporters

is never elaborated on again

It was like something out of Fitzgerald or Thackery… Once they got older, their children would swan about town, teenagers acting like adults. That’s why he supposed the press liked to call him, and the handful of men in the room like him ‘evil.’ Because people could actually remember how he’d made his fucking fortune.

The dark heart of ambition wasn’t something one could be born with—not like a supposed place at the top of the pile. Birthright was only ensured so long as one could keep it.

Who would have thought that the man who was once adamant that the past had to die—violently, if necessary—would turn out to be so fussy about tradition? 

Some of them puzzle Rey. Such as his insistence on chronicling their travels using ink and parchment. No matter how much she points out how much simpler it would be on a data pad, he merely smiles at her and goes back to his antiquated tools.  In another, kinder life, Ben might have been a scholar, with his ink-stained fingers and brow.

Some of them she adores—like his habit of braiding her hair each morning. Although he has taught her the different styles and their meanings, she enjoys it purely for the feel of his hands in her hair every morning. It is soothing, a sense of belonging. 

(Of course, it often becomes a prelude for his hands, and eventually his lips, to find purchase elsewhere on her body, until her sweat-slicked skin is pressed to his and they tumble into their bed.

Or to the floor.

Or the cockpit.

Or against the nearest wall.)

He has lots of little habits—from the scientific precision and ceremony of his tea making, to only drinking from a cup or mug held in his right hand—all of which he maintains aretradition. 

Tradition or quirks, Rey doesn’t really mind; for all of them are so fundamentally Ben.

The Werewolf of Chandrilla Primary

Speechless indeed are the pupils of Miss Holdo's primary one class when Ben Solo walks into their Hallowe'en party, unrecognisable beneath layers of latex, fake fur and costume make-up, including fangs dripping with fake blood. Their silence lasts about thirty seconds, before Snap bursts into tears, and the other children erupt into whispers.

Miss Holdo shuffles Snap to the corner, and Ben feels his heart sink. Perhaps the fake blood had been a touch over the top…

Ben had been so proud of his costume earlier, his chest puffed out like a peacock as they had walked to school. He had even allowed Chewie to take dozens of photos, which he had promised would hold pride of place on his workshop walls. This was going to be the best Hallowe'en ever. 

But now, as the other children whisper and recoil from him (with even Poe and Hux look green around the gills), Ben wishes he'd let Chewie buy the pumpkin costume after all.

He retreats to the corner and tries not to cry.

Your mind was still returning to that discovery you had made. There was no way, no way you could get fired from it. At least that’s what you reassured yourself. Thankfully the desk on the opposite end of Kylo’s office was empty. You immediately set up there and clocked in. You placed on your headphones switching to darkwave radio and began your daily tasks. Soon enough that discovery named Kylo was walking through the door. You figured causal wasn’t in his dictionary as he wore a fitted turtle neck and black slacks. He always looked so well put together it made you wonder if he ever owned a pair of jeans. 

 Your eyes went back to work as that queasiness entered into your system. You prayed to any Gods that would care to listen to let this day go smoothly and you would go unnoticed. But alas...Gods loved their pettiness.

“Hey,” Spoke Kylo in a smooth dark voice that made your toes curl. 

 Your eyes snapped up at him as he leaned against your cubical wall. It didn’t help either that he looked..very very good with that black turtle neck.

“Morning,” You cleared your throat trying to push back those audios you had listened to countless times you were alone.

“Rey told me you guys were looking for a new apartment?” He questioned as he folded his arms.

“Yeah that’s the plan, her dad’s gonna drive us around on Saturday to see what’s available,” You answered.

 Internally you were so grateful this conversation focused on your friend than him awkwardly liking those old photos on your social. 

“Rey wanted me to tag along with your little endeavor. I- I hope you don’t mind,” He shyly admitted as he rubbed the back of his neck, “I just didn’t want it to be awkward since I’m the CEO or whatever. Whatever happens outside of work will stay out of work.”

 You couldn’t help but feel a slight tightness in your chest as you saw his shyness towards you. It was begrudgingly cute. Before you could speak he added on.

“I don’t want you to feel like you gotta be a different person ‘cause I’m a CEO more or less,” Kylo added quickly, “I’m strictly there for my cousin, no- that sounds insensitive. I mean, I can be there for you too, but not in a weird stalker way??-” 

A slight laugh escaped your lips as you saw Kylo trying to gather his thoughts in front of you, “I get it Kylo. It won’t be weird, you’re her family.”

Kylo let out a sigh of relief, “Great. Cool! I’m glad we got that out of the way. Have you met her dad?”

“Yeah here and there,” You spoke, suddenly a call came in from the company phone, “Excuse me for a second.”

 Kylo nodded as you greeted the caller. There was an older man’s voice on the other line. 

“Oh hi, I think I got my son’s extension wrong,” the man spoke with a nervous laugh.

“That’s alright, what’s your son’s name?” I asked looking at the phone screen.

“Ben,” he answered, “Ben Solo.”

Your eyebrow rose slightly as you glanced around the office. Kylo picked up on your confusion and quietly mouthed, “Who?”

Your shoulders shrug, “Ben Solo is that the name sir??”

 Kylo’s face slowly dropped as he stopped leaning on the cubicle wall. Immediately his aura changed causing you to be a little apprehensive. Immediately he wrote on a sticky note: Ask whose calling.

Kylo began folding his arms as his brows furrowed. He looks disappointed, you thought to yourself. 

“Whose calling?” You asked the older man on the other line.

“It’s uh…Han Solo his father,” the older man reluctantly answered.

“Han Solo,” I repeated loudly enough for Kylo.

 Kylo rolled his jaw and nodded pointing to his office.

“I’ll direct him to you now bare with me for a few minutes,” you replied as Kylo briskly made his way to his office.

“Great thanks,” the older man spoke before placing him on hold.

Kylo entered his office and shut the door behind him. Although you didn’t know all of the family drama through Rey, you had heard that last name a few times. But, you couldn’t entirely remember her mentioning anyone by the name of Ben. 

You reminded yourself to ask Rey when you got back to the apartment. The next few hours dragged on. Kylo every once in and while entered and exited his office as you kept to your far corner cubicle away from everyone else. Before he left the building he paused near the doorway on his phone. He was typing out something and suddenly your phone vibrated in your cardigan. 

 You turned your back to the doorway and pulled out your phone. Your heart dropped to your stomach as you saw it was from CraftedClassic tagging your username.

CraftedClassic: I can’t wait to give you an early release of my new audio, I hope this strikes your fantasy @DeathMajesty and other loyal followers. 

As if your heart rate couldn’t go any higher you saw the title of the new audio. 

Come Into My Office. CEO fantasy.

 You swiped the notification away as your stomach dropped. Kylo was still hanging by the doorway and his eyes were glued to his phone along with a smirk. 

He had no idea..no fucking clue…

 Kylo walked outside as a food delivery person came towards the door. Your eyes went back to your phone and messaged him back.

DeathMajesty: Can’t wait <3

 You heard a chime and as discreetly as you could manage you glanced at him quickly. A proud smirk came on his face as he returned to his office making you feel butterflies in your stomach.

“No fucking clue,” you muttered with a chuckle going back to your work. 

 The hours dragged on once more and soon enough it had reached your 8 hours. Let’s be honest 15 minutes before you could clock out you were mentally over today. You gathered your things and began to clean your desk. You softly played your music aloud as it was just you in the corner with no one else around you.

 You hummed to Bauhaus as you scrolled through your Tumblr feed your brain already in weekend mode. You saw a few employees leave waving bye to you as you did the same. A sudden movement caught your eye as Kylo exited out of his office. 

“Can you come into my office?” He asked you as he looked at his phone before looking at you.

 Wonderful choice of play on words, you thought to yourself as you paused your music. As you walked by him you could smell his cologne of mahogany and soft musk causing a slight warm feeling in the pool of your stomach. You entered the office while Kylo followed behind you. You wonder if he used this layout in his audio. 

“You can take a seat if you want,” he offered as he sat on the edge of his desk folding his arms. 

 You quickly glanced at his arms seeing how chiseled they were along with a slight veins, “I’m alright with standing..”

“Has Rey told you about Han??” He questioned as he slightly leaned on one foot then the other.

 You shrugged, “I’ve heard his name tossed around from her and Luke but that’s about it. Why?”

Kylo let out a small breath, “That’s one way of putting it I guess. Okay, family lore time since you’re already familiar with names. Han Solo is my dad, I changed my name when I got older. Long story short, Ben is me.”

 There was something deeper there, you could tell by his reluctance to speak further on it. And you weren’t one to press on it.

“Alright, that’s cool with me,” you answered nonchalantly.

“If Han ever does call back, I am not here,” he stated.

“You got it.”

 You were relieved a bit that he didn’t have that oversharing like Rey. It was alright because it was Rey, your best friend, but with Kylo. You weren’t entirely sure about him.

“I can see why Rey likes you, you’re easy to talk to,” Kylo admired, “I’m curious..what else has she told you about me?”

 A subtle grin came on his face making your stomach flutter. You went over to the chair in front of him, and for a second you could’ve sworn you heard him hold his breath.

“You want the good or bad?” You offered as you placed a palm under your chin.   He seemed a bit taken back by your stance now. 

“Bad of course,” he smoothly talked as he watched you with that cute smirk.

 Your mind went to that title for that hot audio. Desperately you pushed that thought back into the dark space in your mind. 

“The Christmas party, the family reunion, and something about someone’s party, I think Poe’s birthday party?” You listed as Kylo’s face dropped once more as a pink came on his cheeks.

“My God…” he whispered in disbelief as he pinched the bridge of his nose, “So she spilled to you of all my drunk endeavors.”

“Basically,” you laughed with a shrug, “You guys are like the Kardashians in my book, everything I know about you guys I know against my will.”

 Kylo seemed to beam when you laughed, “You have no idea Y/N. I’m surprised how we managed to last this long.”

You both shared a slight pause. Although he had a commanding aura around him this side was different. It was..fairly attractive along with that relaxed grin.

Before he could say something your alarm rang off in your phone. 

“I should probably clock out,” You muttered tapping your screen as you got up from the chair.

“Oh, yeah,” He cleared his throat, “I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”

 You paused in your steps as you remembered that he was tagging along with you and Rey. 

“Right, tomorrow,” You acknowledged as you went out of his office, “Have a good night Kylo.”

“Goodnight Y/N,” He spoke gazing at your form. 

At home, you sat in front of your laptop with your mouse hovering over the link to Kylo’s newest audio.

What to Expect at Genesis X

Genesis X has arrived, and for the first time since 2011 is featuring Brawl! At 71 entrants, this is the largest non-Super Smash Con tournament since Apex 2015. Despite multiple top 8 seeds dqing, this remains a fairly stacked tournament, currently sitting at B tier on the 2024 SSBBRank TTS. With multiple top 10 players, old names, and one of Brawl’s newest rising stars, this is a tournament you sure don’t want to miss.

The Top 8 Seeds

8. SuperGirlKels

SuperGirlKels played Brawl back in 2014, most notably placing 25th at SKTAR 3, however, she returned to the game just last year, and competed at Super Smash Con 2023. At this tournament, she would end up placing 25th, taking wins over Cabbage72, Montblanc, and Wefflez. Playing Sonic and Kirby, she could end up making a run at this tournament, so keep an eye on her as she makes her way through bracket.

7. Kylo

Kylo has been playing Brawl since August of 2023. August of 2023. That means he’s only been playing for 6 months. Yet in these 6 months, this Meta Knight main has shown a massive improvement, going from just starting the game, to taking a game off of Cody’s Marth in an online tournament. He has online wins on RekRP and Strawberrow, and is looking to prove that his online skill is for real. With Genesis X, he is making his offline Brawl debut, and if all goes well, we may be seeing the beginning of a new top Brawl player.

6. FEAR

FEAR is a Zero Suit Samus main from Florida, who consistently enters Brawl brackets at tournaments he attends, and consistently shows his skill. His best result was definitely his 7th place finish at Super Smash Con Fall Fest, but he also has reached 9th at CEO Dreamland 2020, 17th at Super Smash Con 2022, and 25th at Super Smash Con 2023. He’s consistently been on that edge of the top, and maybe this tournament will be the one where he shows that he belongs at the top level of Brawl.

5. Fino

Fino had an electric run at The Return 12, an online tournament shortly before Super Smash Con 2023, where he defeated ninja1167 (me), Kyoz, Gunnermaniac, and Mikeray4 in Winners Finals before losing to Mikeray twice in grands. At Smash Con, he seemed to be on track to continue this, defeating Kiwi and taking Cody to game 3, until he lost to Iota for 17th. Despite this, don’t underestimate Fino’s skill level. His Olimar is the real deal, and I would not be surprised at all to see him in top 4 or even top 3 of this tournament.

4. Ish

Ish is a Wolf main. And there are multiple nowadays who will tell you that Wolf is broken. Despite this not really being the case, Ish’s run at Super Smash Con showed what his character could do. He brought Gunnermaniac to game 3 (in a really hard matchup for Wolf), and defeated Hb2, Tori, and rank #20 Max Power to reach top 16, where he forfeited vs Lux to end at 13th place. Ish is poised to make another impressive performance here at Genesis, and if he gains momentum here, what is stopping him from doing the same thing in just a couple weeks at Sweet Spot 8.

3. Lux

At Super Smash Con 2023, Lux reached 7th place, defeating both Pelca and Dabuz with Ice Climbers before falling to 686M’s monstrous loser’s run, and he ended up being ranked 9th on the 2023 SSBBRank. Despite only being the third seed, there’s no doubt he has what it takes to win this tournament. Ice Climbers can beat anyone, all it takes is 3 grabs. Or maybe we will see him matchup check with Mario, laser with Falco, or win with Meta Knight, who knows! Whatever character he may throw out, there’s no denying it will put up a fight, and if he can replicate his Smash Con (or Sweet Spot 7) success, grand finals could easily be in sight for Lux.

2. Chia

Chia mains R.O.B, and R.O.B is a mid tier. That much is obvious. However, despite playing a mid tier, Chia has found great success, with wins over Zenan and Gunnermaniac on the way to a 3rd place at The Big House 11, or a win on Kyoz on the way to 9th at Super Smash Con 2023. R.O.B’s greatest strength is that he does well vs Ice Climbers, but he struggles vs Meta Knight. Chia has both of these in her path, with Kylo in Winners Quarters and Lux in Winners Semis. If Chia can pull this out, make an upset, and win the event, this would be the best event win by a R.O.B, ever, in the entire 16 year history of Brawl.

1. Player-1

Player-1 has been ranked #3 in the world for two years in a row now. The world’s best Diddy Kong has been on that edge for so long, only ever losing to Cody and 686M. However, with neither in attendance here at Genesis, Player-1 has a bracket prime for the taking (and remarkably similar to Sweet Spot 7, a tournament he won last year). He is the clear favorite to win the event, and has shown no signs in the last 4 years that he will lose to anyone in attendance. If he starts the year out with a bang, maybe he can continue that momentum into Sweet Spot 8 and take out one of his demons, 686M.

Made a run to the local tack shop last night to stock up on fly spray during their end of season fly gear sale, and finally got to try on the new CO Kylo (it’s currently Safety Week, lots of helmet brands and even some body protectors are 20% at all major retailers, so nows the time replace your helmet if you have been holding off). Super bummed to say that it is just barely not right for my head.

Out of curiosity I tried on the One K with MIPS in an oval, and yep, still the most comfortable helmet for my head. I wore One Ks for years and years until I had my TBI. I gave up on the brand, and I feel like I’ve been chasing a better fit ever since. Trauma Void comes close, but still not quite right, and very recently the CEO made some racist remarks about the hair of POC (meanwhile One K is a brand actively supporting POC and their helmet fitting struggles).

I dunno, would you give a brand another chance if the technology in them had gotten better? The One K I got my TBI in did not have MIPS, and now they have MIPS options. I fell off a lot in two different brands while I was trying eventing, and neither time did I have any kind of head injury in a MIPs helmet, so I really do believe in the technology…
