can scorch this earth

the sirens can be silenced

but there’s been a mistake here

the roots are growing deeper

but the branches all bent and cracked

what she takes from the earth

the earth took from the sky

and none of the pictures

from all of those painters

capture anything she saw that night

I’ve been dreaming of faces

but I don’t recognize them anymore

something in the way the winter leaves

makes me hate New York

It’s almost that time

when the sun peeks out again

I get around

in the easy heat

but cut my ties by sunset

I won’t say that I miss you

but I was wondering if you miss me

I’ll never ask

or dare to guess

but damn if I don’t want to see

learn to keep your body low

cast as little shadow as you can

i wrote this little text few years ago. the original is a bit longer - the only reason to edit and remove some parts was that in that point of my life, majority of my opinions and views on things were just starting to form, which means, well, few sentences were like straight out of r/menwritingwomen. fortunately, i am slowly growing up and realizing stuff; plus, the process of realisation of these things in particular wouldn't even started without my dear friend, who read my texts with a critical eye and wasn't afraid to tell me the (then very painful) truth. although that time i cried and came up with excuses, i am so so thankful to him now.

Bosé nohy jej poskakovali po mäkkom koberci, miestnosťou sa rozliehala hudba. Tancovala, akoby ju nik nevidel. A okrem nej tam naozaj ani nikto nebol. Iba ona, celkom nahá, vlniac sa a skákajúc do rytmu a melódie hudby. Raz s rukami za hlavou krúžiac panvou, raz robiac lastovičku a pirouetty sťa baletná virtuózka, raz natriasajúc zadkom, či prsiami.

Z vázy plnej pivónii vytiahla tú najkrajšiu a zastokla si ju do hustých vlnkavých vlasov. Cítila sa slobodná, nikým a ničím nerušená. Cítila sa ako kráľovná priestoru a času. A skutočne v tej chvíli aj bola. V ten moment sa stala definíciou krásy, radosti, dokonalosti. Stala sa symbolom slobody, múzou lásky, bohyňou sexuality, dcérou samotného Erota.

Nežná, a predsa divoká. Nevinná, a predsa dravá. Krehká, a predsa mocná. Malinká telom naproti celému vesmíru, a predsa vesmír bol taký malinký naproti jej duši.

Happy International Women’s day!! I hope everyone had a lovely day today :] I thought this would also be the perfect excuse to write some demon slayer characters and what they would do for women’s days!! Also The internet NEEDS more Enmu content so I am here to deliver.

Akaza clears all his plans for women’s day!! He makes sure to have the day OFF. He finishes his missions on time and gets everything done before this day.

Literally always remembers and wakes you up with kisses on your face, gently murmuring “Good morning” as he sets a vase of flowers on the bedside table.

This day is so special to him, It’s the day he has an excuse to just shower you in love! Akaza makes this day like a second anniversary, He lives for it!

Silent late night walks in a forest near a river or stream, maybe a little picnic too^^ He admires the moonlight on your skin and the way you smile as you tug his arm to walk faster.

Chocolates, Flowers, Jewellery you name it! This guy is on top of his game and won’t let you down, Not like it’s even possible to be let down by Akaza BUT YK-

Okey so here’s the thing, Douma wouldn’t plan it. He probably forgot until one of his followers mentioned it or (if you have a calendar because lets face it Douma wouldn’t have one) He’d check a calendar and be like “Oh yeah!” *snaps fingers*

He’ll shower you with attention and love! His gifts include Jewellery and New clothes! If you like reading, Douma might find a way to get his sharp lil hands on a book you’ve wanted for a long time^^

I don’t think he’s such of a chocolates type guy though, That’s okey though! He makes up for it I promise!!

While he can’t eat normal human food, He’d make his followers make you some so he can munch on a human while you eat your normal food.

Unless you are a demon, then yippe! You share a human together 💖 So romantic

Nevertheless, if he sees you upset about him not celebrating it then he’ll sigh and walk to your side, wish you a (Rather forced) happy women’s day and hug you. Muzan hugs are very rare, THATS HIS GIFT TO YOU

If you've read Warrior's Blues anytime in the last four years, thank you. The fourth year anniversary of me hitting "publish" on the first chapter was the 26th, and as a result I've been thinking about this story a lot. I decided I wanted to share some of my process for writing it and the reason I decided to write this fic in the first place.

I was going back and forth about publishing this, but what pushed me over the edge was a movie I just watched. It's currently available on Disney+, the title is Swan Song and it stars Udo Kier. Of all the movies I've watched, TV shows, books, audiobooks, podcasts, this one piece of media hits me the hardest. Queerness was supposed to be invisible, shunted to the margins of society. But all of these queer men and women carved spaces for themselves and their joy. They made community and celebrated and loved and fucked and set their own standards for beauty and attraction. Our predecessors and ancestors (and most of them are ancestors now, far too soon) were everywhere, as unstoppable as flowers forcing their way through concrete. They connected with each other and their communities, they made spaces for themselves. Those connections laid foundations of love that set the stage, both literally and metaphorically, for the queer youth of today to thrive. We're here because of them.

Ancestors. Those who came before us, the roots from which we spring. They were on my mind when my friend @stressedspidergirlsfandomblog prodded me to write something for queer history month. I had just watched season one of the Witcher and I was struck Very Queer Feelings. My fingers got to tapping and I thought, I'll write a short little crack piece with some internalized homophobia and 90s nostalgia sprinkled on, I'll be done in a week, it'll be great. (LOL.)

But then it became so much more. Because somewhere in there I realized I was writing a love poem to the Witcher fandom about queerness, about queer history and queer love and the pressures of living before legalization in the USA. When I realized I was doing that, I started watching, listening to, and reading, everything I could get my hands on.

Four years in, I have taken in a ton of media as part of writing this fic (and I will take in much more before I'm done. Recommendations welcome!) Swan Song was especially poignant, but it's all been important in forming this story. When I'm not actively writing, I try to be taking in things that help me understand the times and places each of my characters is steeped in. I've been devouring everything about and from 1995-1951 for years now. I'm not picky, I've been trying to distill all of it- the good, the bad, and the ugly. Golden Girls has been a favorite. Pose too. Right now I'm watching the Simpsons. I've also read things like American Warrior, a book written by Army Ranger Gary O'Neal. When I do dishes I watch Cheers, or the Donna Reed show. Other days it's Seinfeld. Some of my research has been beautiful, like reading the works of Israeli poet Yehuda Amichai. A lot of it grates. It's painful to process all of the queerphobia, and it can be uncomfortable to wade through things that rub me wrong. But that's sort of the point. Queerness can be hard. It can also be so, so joyous.

More than reading, when I can feature vintage queer media in the story, I try to do so. Some of the easter eggs are subtle, and some of them much more obvious, like the Mapplethorpe photos in the bar. My hope is to honor their history and remember them with love.

I do want to make one special podcast shout-out: @makingqueerhistory has been an integral part of my research. Their archive of episodes is truly a treasure trove, and has enhanced not only my understanding of my characters' worlds but of the sheer depth and breadth of queer history itself. I am so grateful that this resource is available. I keep wanting to recommend them to you but I don't usually get around to talking about the media that goes into this story. So consider this a plug. As I mentioned before, this project got started during Pride month thanks to @stressedspidergirlsfandomblog goading me to write a fic. (Thank you friend, sometimes it helps to get a push) It is also my love letter to the Witcher fandom about Pride, about why it's important, about what our queer forbears did to pave the way to the world we live in today and what joy their hard work is bringing us. About why it's important to love what we have and also why it's so important to fight for our rights. I'm afraid for the future. I think a lot of us are, but what I see of our past gives me so, so much hope. We are strong, we are resilient, we have always been here. No matter what happens, we will persist. There is a reason that dandelions resonate with so many of us on this webbed site. Like them, we can flourish in the most adverse of conditions. They are fierce, and they are beautiful. Just like we are. We will keep popping up no matter what happens. I believe that queer people or all sorts deserve to exist. We deserve to celebrate ourselves and each other free of guilt, shame, or fear. And we deserve to experience joy. Cause you know what? Our joy is BEAUTIFUL. It's worth protecting! It's worth fighting for. Thank you for being with me on this journey. I'm in it for the long haul, and I appreciate each and every single one of you who's stopped in to enjoy this story along the way. You are wonderful.

shame is learned. celebrating autonomy & the potential to unlearn & deprogram conditioned thought processes. my poem for yesterday's international women's day. poem from my poetry collection, songs of youth. written in 2017 after learning about a case of gendered violence which happened in my home country, and reading social media comments attached to news about it. it made me realise how the dynamic that leads to such violence was being (and is) continuously perpetuated in social spaces in different forms (such as speech, enforcing gendered constructs) & how women were active agents in its perpetuation as well. to unlearn is to become free.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.

1 October is International Coffee Day. Celebrate with the 77 Member States of the ICO and dozens of coffee associations from around the world.

International Coffee Day is a celebration of the coffee sector’s diversity, quality and passion. It is an opportunity for coffee lovers to share their love of the beverage and support the millions of farmers whose livelihoods depend on the aromatic crop.

Many countries around the world celebrate their own national coffee days at various dates throughout the year. In March 2014, the Member States of the ICO agreed to organize International Coffee Day on 1 October to create a single day of celebration for coffee lovers around the world.

On International Coffee Day 2024, the International Coffee Organization Invites the Coffee Sector to Embrace Collaboration for Collective Action with the Message: ‘Coffee, Your Daily Ritual, Our Shared Journey”

In 2023, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) launched the #CoffeePeople campaign in partnership with ILO (International Labour Organization), a collaborative effort aimed at promoting safer and healthier working conditions for coffee workers globally.

The campaign, officially launched on International Coffee Day (1 October 2023), was embraced by the International Coffee Organization (ICO), with its Council designating “Joining forces for a safer coffee supply chain” as the official theme of its 2023 promotional activities.

The campaign emphasized several key messages:

1. Every coffee worker deserves a safe and healthy workplace.

2. Work-related injuries and diseases in coffee production are preventable.

These opening remarks by the first speaker at a mass gathering of May Day celebrants in the Arena on Tuesday night formed the sub- stance of a number of addresses given by men, women and children and heard by some 2,500 red-necktled, red-sweatered Communist enthusiasts.

The stirring calls to arms of the speakers were interspersed by musical selections played by the fife band of the Young Pioneers of North Burnaby, and the Jugoslav Orchestra. The orchestra opened the evenng with an excellent rendering of "The Internationale" and the fife band closed it with the playing of "The Red Flag." Such fitting tunes as "Free Russia" and "The Russian Revolution" were played in between times.

The hit of the evening was a splendid recital by Elspeth Munroe. aged about 8, who staggered her audience with:

"Comrade chairman and comrades, ours is a struggle against hunger, wage cuts, Fascism and war. I am proud to be a worker's child. I urge you to support the Young Pioneers, and not the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts organizations which only teach the arts of wa r- and we don't want war!

"We must demonstrate against the Special Powers Act for it is legislation such as that which breeds Fascism and Fascism means a reign of terror for the working classes. It is not only on May Day but all through the year that we must fight."

She concluded with a stirring "poem" dealing with war and Fascism.

Another speaker, introduced by Chairman Joseph Foley as "Comrade Stewart of the B. C. Electric." expressed much regret at the fact that his fellow street railway work- ers were not demonstrating on the streets in honor of May Day.

"I feel sure, however," he added, "that we will all be on the streets where we belong, next May Day."

After the audience had heard much about the logging strike, Youth's point of view, and the advance of Soviet Russia, there was a pause while some of the comrades on the platform made an appeal for funds to aid the loggers. On an appeal being made, one member of the audience produced a ten dollar bill, three five dollar bills followed this, and then a number of ones were produced. A well-known news- paper man, sitting at the press table became the butt of a number of "Jests" at this point and finally he too, was induced to part with the small amount of change he had in his pockets.

Following this interlude, which was enhanced by more music, the meeting again settled down to listen to a series of speakers. One speaker told much about the anti-war solidarity in the "slave camps" he was a delegate from the Relief Camp Workers' Union-another told about troubles of the longshoremen; Comrade George Drayton gave a masterly speech on the world economic situation and its relation to Communism; the woman's angle was heard from, there were a few announcements, and then everybody went home.

The metaphors sprinkled throughout—“Tiny tongues of sand,” “moist chiffon of fog,” “lips of clothespins,” “skirt of the ocean.”—all add up to a rich and sensual reading experience. The sound and rhythm of lines such as “Make me your summer lullaby” and “our waterbed a boat in its own warm harbor” beg to be read aloud and simply made me swoon.
