Unpopular opinion: I really don’t like the chocolate guy thing. I recognize that he’s very skilled at what he does, but it bothers me deeply that all that chocolate is probably going to waste. Somewhere the ingredients were grown and harvested but instead of going to make some yummy treats that are going to give someone the warm glow of “mm chocolate” (plus some nutritional qualities), they’re being used to make these massive objects that are just going to be looked at and presumably never eaten.

Like, if it’s about the challenge of making art from gloopy stuff that hardens when it cools, there are plenty of other non-edible materials that could easily be substituted.

I’d be delighted to hear that I’m wrong and these pieces he makes (and the probable cubic meters of practice versions he must go through to be able to make them) are actually all being consumed and appreciated once the video is done. Just not keeping my hopes up.

I don't think that was a scripted moment, I think that was just the actor having fun so I don't know if I really expect it to come up again lol. I definitely thought it was weird in context because Trina and Dex are essentially strangers but it's the Nurse's Ball so whatever. I'm at a point where I don't want Spencer and Dex to interact until Cam is back. I just don't see a reason for them to interact with each other at all without Cam. I haven't enjoyed any of their scenes together.

A lot of the pro-veilguard arguments I see include a very specific way of viewing what “dark fantasy” is which misses the entire point as to why there are criticisms about the overall tone of the game.

Dark fantasy is not just “how much murder rape bigotry and overall suffering can we put in a story for the sake of doing so”.

It’s about having events and themes based off of the darker parts of reality and then, as the player, being able to do something about it. The general appeal is the catharsis. It’s about seeing these stories reflected through an interactive story in a meaningful, respectful, purposeful way.

Is dragon age the poster child for handling its complicated, real-life-inspired politics well? No. But veilguard was somehow worse. The bar was in hell and it still tripped flat on its face.

Veilguard’s lackadaisical, chronically ironic “well THAT just happened”, neutered writing and theme is not a good argument as to why this is a good dragon age game, and you can’t blame the dark fantasy genre for it.
