I know I know. It’s been awhile since I posted and my reading has been slacking as well 12 books behind schedule to meet my yearly goal. 😬 Here is some books I have read since Play Along, my last post on here.

Some were duds and some were really great surprisingly. Some of them are just straight smut so mind your business ���

I was trying to expand my reading and starting reading a couple of graphic novels. The Zodiac Wolves/These Hollow Vows were a decent series. Dream On was a cute little hallmark romance. I wasn’t disappointed. C.R. Jade and Lena Hendrix 🤌🏻 I love Emily Rath’s Pucking Around series but I did not care for her Second Sons series. It was boring to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Then Earth, Swallowed Ocean was 😳 but 😍😏. The Bodyguard was god awful. How to Walk Away was decent. But Things You Save in a Fire was actually really good and I loved it. 🤗🤗

21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?

Ooooh, that’s a good one. Especially because my writing has evolved so much over the last year, which I can most directly attribute to

 discovering Amy Fusselman and allowing myself to write in a more fragmentary style. 

David Shields’s more overtly collage style has been similarly influential, although more in the “oh, I can do this and get published” way – I only read Shields because my intro to cw prof said my final sounded like him. 

“Violence” has gotten more attention recently due to @uglykhakis drawing fanart of it, and that I can directly attribute to reading about Gordon Lish’s editing work on Raymond Carver’s famous What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. (I don’t really admire this asshole but I thought it was worth bringing up regardless.)

 “Mortals sipping nectar at five cents a glass” is a direct stylistic imitation of Richard Bruce Nugent’s vastly underrated “smoke, lilies, and jade,” because of its incredibly unique, relaxed style, as well as being one of the few instances of LGBT rep that give me genuine pride in my sexuality. 

As for fanfic writers, 

Kali Cephirot’s “could not erase it” has made me cry many times and the elegant quilt structure is something I ripped off and ruined for EddTord Finale.

Spellthief (for Princess Tutu and now Miraculous Ladybug and Finale Space) also has wonderful poetic prose, 

while C.R. Martin (for YYY) is generally more blunt, especially when he debuted back in 2010 (I have a rewrite of one of the fight scenes in Calamity Hoppers still sitting in my gdrive).

 For romance and drama, I recommend sbj - the characterization in MTH makes me nut every time, and her fic “grown ups” was the inspiration for my EddTord fic “peter pan syndrome.” 

For angst, back in the day I was particularly inspired by WikiTiki99, 

and even to this day I find myself coming back to obsessmuch’s massive Lumione fic “Eden” (echoes of it appear in “our love gorges” and echoes of her other fic “Ashes” are found in “bezoar”), and it’s basically the only Stockholm Syndrome fic I respect. I have some problems with it, but the slow burn is absolutely amazing and unlike other fics, it genuinely does not compromise itself on the abusive nature of the relationship (nor distract with large swaths dedicated to side characters no one gives a fuck about).
