Inspiriert von Fado und kontemporärem Pop, ist "Maria João" der erste portugiesische Song von C'est Karma. Die Tochter einer portugiesischen Mutter wuchs in Luxembourg auf, ihr portugiesisches Erbe spielt jedoch eine große Rolle in ihrem Leben:

Actuellement le karma s'acharne. Après le mail de mon maître de stage atterri dans mes spams et me faisant passer pour une sombre conne. Nous avons ma pote de la fac. En effet, ce matin elle m'envoie "tu vas à la bu aujourd'hui ?". Et moi, faut savoir que la bu c'est seul, sauf travaux de groupes. Un peu comme les chiottes, c'est seul mais en boîte ou pour certaines occasions, ok on peut y aller à plusieurs. Donc j'avais zéro envie d'aller à la bu avec elle aujourd'hui. Aujourd'hui c'est aussi le jour où je suis rentrée à nice car j'ai partiel demain. Je comptais bel et bien aller à la bu mais seule. Donc jlui dis non et je rajoute -ca a été mon erreur-, "en plus je rentre que ce soir". En fait j'ai dit ça pour m'assurer qu'elle ne trouverait pas un moyen qu'on y aille ensemble (je connais sa force de persuasion). Elle me dit tant pis et que du coup elle a la flemme d'y aller. Bon du coup, de mon côté, j'arrive vraiment à nice. Je mange. Et je me rends à la bu. Une heure après, je vais fumer une clope et je sens une main qui se pose sur mon épaule. Je me retourne c'était qui ? Elle évidemment. J'ai bégayé plus que de raison. Elle était furieuse. Donc j'ai dû mentir et dire que j'étais rentrée plus tôt, que je venais à peine d'arriver à la bu et que j'allais justement lui envoyer un message. Alalala. Ptn.
