Things To Consider When Buying A Silver Jewellery By Grams
Tumblr media
Silver jewelry is often sold and purchased in two ways- jewelry by gram and jewelry by piece. Under purchase and sale based on jewelry by gram, retailers or individual buyers are free to purchase their chosen pieces based on their weight in grams. Here the purchase is not based on selling jewelry per piece.

"Here’s what we know about Julia Felix: she lived in Pompeii from at least 62 CE. She was possibly illegitimate but was definitely not a member of the social and cultural elite. She worked for a living setting up and running a very interesting business and, by 79 CE, she had planned to shift her focus from managing a business to owning property. We know all these things because twentieth-century excavations at her business uncovered an advert, carved in stone and attached to the external wall of her huge building. It reads:
"To rent for the period of five years from the thirteenth day of next August to the thirteenth day of the sixth August, the Venus Bath fitted for the nogentium, shops with living quarters over the shops, apartments on the second floor located in the building of Julia Felix, daughter of Spurius. At the end of five years, the agreement is terminated."
This find illuminated the building it was attached to, bringing what otherwise looked like a very large anonymous domestic house into dazzling focus. With this description of the purpose of each room written by the owner herself, archaeologists and historians could see the site through a whole new lens and they realised that they had discovered a Roman entertainment space for the working middle classes. It is, so far, a completely unique find and it is magnificent. It offers us, as modern viewers, two amazing things: a little glimpse into the lives of the commercial classes of the Roman Empire who are so often completely and utterly invisible, and a brutal reminder that so much of what we ‘know’ about Roman women in the Roman world comes from rules concerning only the most elite.
We’ll do that second part first, because it’s the least fun. Roman written and legal sources are pretty universal in their agreement that although women could own property, they could not control it; they had no legal rights, could not make contracts and were to be treated as minors by the legal system for their entire lives. In order to buy or sell property women required a male guardian to oversee and sign off on any transactions. This is a basic truism of women in the Roman Empire, repeated ad nauseum by sources both ancient and modern including me, and it is undermined by Julia Felix’s rental notice.
The rental ad makes it pretty clear that Julia Felix is the owner-operator of a business complex including public baths, shops and apartments (there’s more too, as we’ll see), and she doesn’t seem to require anyone else to help her rent it out. She names her father – sort of; ‘Spurius’ might just mean that she is illegitimate – but this is effectively a surname, a personal identifier to differentiate her from other Julia Felixes in the area. It doesn’t mean her father was involved. Furthermore, the use of her father’s name as an identifier suggests that Julia didn’t have a husband and was either unmarried or widowed in 79 CE. The strong implication of her advert is that Julia Felix was an independent lady, a honey making money and a momma profiting dollars who could truthfully throw her hands up to Destiny’s Child.
Tumblr media
We will never know if Julia escaped the flames and choking ash of 79 CE, fleeing as it swallowed her business and her home, but one discovery, made on 28 January 1952, suggests that she didn’t. The archaeologists, led by Amedeo Maiuri, uncovered on that day the skeleton of a woman who had fallen while running across the garden during the disaster. It’s clear this fallen woman was well off, because she was wearing a lot of gold jewellery. She carried four gold half-hoop earrings and wore four gold rings. Two of these rings were particularly expensive; both contained a red carnelian gem, one carved with a figure of Mercury, the other with an eagle. Around her neck she wore a necklace of gold filigree, dotted with ten pearls and hung with a green pendant. Someone stole both the necklace and earrings from the Pompeii Antiquarium in 1975 and no one, somehow, had ever bothered to photograph them so all we have are descriptions but the rings that survive are fine and expensive. The woman who wore them – was wearing them when she died – had real money to buy these objects and the woman who wore them did'nt leave Pompei in time.
Moreover, when she was found it was clear that at the moment of her death she was heading not towards the street or towards safety, but towards the shrine to Isis in the garden where all the most valuable possessions were kept. The valuable possessions that Julia Felix grafted for and maybe couldn’t bear to leave behind. There’s no way to tell whether this skeleton is Julia Felix, whether these bones once stood and looked at the plots of land Julia bought and made plans, or whether they belong to a looter or a chancer or someone just caught out. But it’s nice to pretend that Julia Felix, who shaped the city’s roads around her dream and offered respite and luxury to workers and made a tonne of money doing it, died and was buried with the place that still bears her name."

How would Ghost and König react to seeing your huge makeup collection for the first time when you’re off-duty together?
You don’t wear makeup at work, even if you go out for a drink before going home, you just use some mascara and maybe a very slightly pink colored lipgloss. Since you haven’t met outside of work yet, they have no idea how dedicated you are.
Ghost
When you show up in the restaurant, you wear full makeup. Nothing dramatic, but it makes you look completely different. He can barely take his eyes off of you, because you look so good.
He makes sure you get home in one piece, secretly hoping you would invite him in. When you do, he can’t hide his smile, and he pulls you into a kiss the moment the front door closes.
In the morning he wakes up before you and he takes a good look around the room from the bed where he sat up. He notices the big makeup vanity set by the window and wonders how full it is. You can do makeup, that’s clear after the previous night.
“Morning,” you purr as you get on your knees and wrap your arm around his torso while you rest your head on his shoulder.
Simon smiles at you and kisses the crown of your head. “Good morning, love. Did you sleep well?” You mumble something against his skin without looking up. “Can I ask you something?”
Finally you look up, eyes mirroring a mixture of confusion and worry. “Is something wrong?”
“What? No! I was just looking at the makeup vanity and wondered what’s in there,” he says with a reassuring smile.
None of the women he dated before had such a thing in their homes. Sure, they had makeup, but they usually kept it in the bathroom or somewhere hidden from his eyes. You seemed to be putting a lot of effort into your looks, especially if this vanity is more than just a design choice.
“Wanna take a look? Come on, I’ll show you,” you say with a wide grin as you get out of bed and hold out your hand for him.
Without hesitation Simon grabs it and climbs out of bed as well. You open the drawers, revealing so many products that he’s beginning to wonder how you managed to fit them in there. He doesn’t even know what half of those are for.
“Foundations, concealers, and primers are stored on this side, eyeshadow palettes and eye liners are here, lip pencils, lipsticks and lipglosses are over there, blushes and highlighters–”
“You lost me here,” he interrupts you, picking up a shiny powder to take a closer look at it. “Do you really use all of these?”
“It depends on my mood and the occasion,” you reply with a smile.
He tries to understand it, he really does, but even though you explained him the use of highlighters, he just couldn’t understand it and barely remembered a thing.
Instead of trying to understand it, he just enjoys seeing the excited look on your face whenever you buy something new, and he even buys you some products as a surprise–although you’re always there to choose what you want.
König
He first learns about your collection when he watches you get ready after the first night you spend together. You agree to go for a walk then visit a museum, so you decide to put on some makeup. “Just to look good as your side piece,” you joke.
Whenever you reach for the products, he keeps asking what they are, why you use them, and most importantly, he pays attention to how you use them.
As you get closer with time, he begins to ask you to put on some makeup even when you’re not going anywhere. He loves seeing you do it, and he loves to compliment you even more. A part of him is convinced that you wouldn’t stay with him if he didn’t take any chance he got to compliment you in some way.
“You look stunning, bunny,” he whispers into your ear as he shows you a necklace. “Mind if I put this on you?”
You turn your head to look at him and flash a smile at the man. “It’s beautiful, thank you,” you say before giving him a quick kiss, leaving a lipstick mark on his cheek. “Let me wash your face,” you say with a laugh.
“Let it stay there,” he mumbles as his lips capture yours in a passionate kiss. “It feels like you just marked me as yours.”
“If you put it this way,” you begin with a quiet giggle before kissing his chin, the tip of his nose, his forehead, and any body part that you can reach from there.
These moments are incredibly precious to him, when you let him know you love him, that you don’t want him to leave. Because he wants to stay, he desperately wants to be by your side for the rest of your lives.
“I love you,” you whisper against his lips.
He couldn’t help but smile. “I love you too,” he says.

Chrissy's Earrings and What They Mean About Her Family's Social Class
Hello and welcome to a stupid mini rant about Chrissy Cunningham's earrings and their social implications!
So for context: I have spent a decent amount of time in (and have a large family from) the American South, where there are alllllll kinds of stupid little social rules and secrets that signal things to others who know The Codes. Obviously this isn't limited to the south, but it's v prevalent there. And among the Codes are some rules about pearl jewelry. I learned this mostly on accident because I wanted to buy myself a pearl necklace as a college graduation present and stumbled across some very opinionated blogs while researching.
Pearls are kind of a big deal in the south. Less so these days, but back in the days of Debutantes (so like… two generations ago. My grandmother's debutante ball pictures are still on the wall of a local restaurant in my family hometown), ~Ladies~ all had (and wore) a nice string of pearls. And one of the ways you showed how classy you were was obeying a system of rules around who is allowed to wear what pearls. This set of rules extended up most of the east coast. It seems to have been stronger in the bible belt, but this would not be unfamiliar to folks in, say, Kentucky or Connecticut. Obviously it's 2024 and you can do whatever you want with your jewelry (and even 60 years ago it's not like you'd be sent to jail for wearing the wrong kind of necklace, you'd just be viewed as socially inept or possibly trashy), but for the purposes of this discussion, here are the formal rules.
The main thing is size. Pearls can be bought in different standardized sizes. Before lab-created pearls really took off, the only way to get them was out of a clam oyster. The longer the pearl sits in the clam, the more layers the clam oyster is able to put on it, and the bigger it gets. Thus, it takes more time to acquire a larger pearl, making them more expensive. Pearls are measured in millimeters, with small pearls being about 6-6.5mm, and large pearls being about 13.0-13.5mm. To make a piece of pearl jewelry, you need to match a handful of pearls as closely as you can in terms of size, shape (they don't all come out perfectly round), and color (pearls can be white, pink, yellow, black, etc.). Thing is… young women are not allowed to wear big pearls. The general guidelines are:
5-6.5mm: given as "first pearls". Typically you wait until a girl is a little older to gift her her very first pearl jewelry. This might be done as a flower girl present, but 16 is often considered a good age for a girl to receive her first strand.
6.5-7mm: permissible for girls 16 and up. Often given as a birthday or high school graduation present. Might also be gifted to your bridesmaids as a thank you for appearing in your wedding.
7-7.5mm: permissible for women 18 and up. Often given as a high school or college graduation present, birthday/mother's day/anniversary/Christmas/valentine's day present. This is kinda considered the "all purpose" size for women.
7.5-8.0: permissible for women 25 and up.
8.0-8.5: this is where they're generally considered to be more ~luxury~. The jewelry becomes its own statement, rather than a standard all-purpose foundational accessory.
8.5-9.0: permissible for women in their mid-30s or older. Often gifted when a woman makes a significant achievement or attains some power, such as a promotion. (An achievement is not necessary to receive these as long as the age requirement is met; conversely, a woman younger than her mid-30s may be gifted this size if she has a sizable enough accomplishment.)
9.0-9.5: permissible for women when they either A) reach their 40s, or B) become "high-powered"-- upper management, CEO, etc.
Basically, you have to "earn" your right to wear larger pearls, either with age or power. You're allowed to wear any size you've "graduated" from (an older or powerful woman can wear any size, if you're in your mid-20s you can wear anything 5.0-8.0 but not above, etc.), but you shouldn't wear sizes you haven't attained the "right" to wear, as this is tacky. Even when you have the "right" to wear big ones, it's worth considering occasion-- larger pearls are more luxurious, so you may choose to wear your 7.0mm strand for your day-to-days and bust out the 9.0s when you have a fancy event. Alternatively, you might wear your 9.5s to work every day to remind everybody what a badass you are.
So now that that's sorted, these are Chrissy's earrings:
Tumblr media
They're… big. I'd estimate maybe 10-11mm based on this picture, assuming GVD has normal-sized ears. The sizes listed above are for necklaces, and you can go a little bigger for your earrings, but a 17 year old girl really shouldn't, according to pearl rules, be wearing 11mm earrings. Like, she could get away with 7.5s even though she hasn't graduated/isn't 18, but 11mm is crazy.
For reference, here's what 10-11mm looks like on a jewelry store model-- about what Chrissy is wearing:
Tumblr media
And this is a 6-7mm, which is "age appropriate" for her:
Tumblr media
Chrissy's possession of these indicates that her family is not aware of pearl rules. She shouldn't even own earrings this big, let alone be wearing them to cheer practice and drug deals. Maaaybe Laura could have them, if she works outside the home and has a high power career (not outside the realm of possibility), but Chrissy would probably not be stealing Mommy Dearest's earrings for a pep rally, based on their characterizations.
Chrissy's family is obviously shown to have money. However, they aren't aware of the opaque rich people social codes. Thesis? The Cunninghams are nouveau riche and that’s why image is such a big deal for them. Laura's very careful composition in public, that family portrait oil painting, their huge/pristine house, and all of the fanon decisions made about Chrissy's need to uphold a reputation/Laura's pressures and expectations of her... they're all to help the family force their way into the moneyed community of Hawkins and pretend they belong.
(Edit: to the girlies tagging this as hellcheer I am kissing you on the lips)

do you have any tips for subtly looking more masculine? I can’t fully transition now because I’m a minor in a confirmed to be transphobic household, and if you have any suggestions that would be amazing
Lee says:
You can try starting slowly incorporating more masculine-styled women's clothing into your wardrobe. This is usually a gradual process anyway since it can take time to save up enough money to purchase enough new shirts/pants/shoes etc. to fully replace your current wardrobe, especially if you're working part-time as a babysitter, dog-walker, etc.
Clothes that are more structured or straight-cut, like button-down shirts or straight-leg pants, can help create a more traditionally masculine silhouette. Layering with hoodies or jackets can also be effective. You can sometimes find these things styled as "boyfriend" clothes, and you can tell your parents that it's the current trend/style. You can see our post on finding masculine clothing in the women's section here.
Another easy change is dropping the accessories. That means not wearing feminine necklaces/earrings/bracelets/hairbands, not painting your nails, etc. It's easy to say you want to keep things basic and sporty and that's why you're going without the accessories. Wearing a neutral watch or a smart watch is another accessory to consider instead of a thin-strapped "women's watch" if you wear watches at all that is.
You can see our post on purse alternatives here since bags are often the biggest practical change in the accessory category. Not carrying a purse when you hang out with your friends in the mall, go out on a trip, etc is obviously a high-impact change to make.
If possible, choose a haircut that's more typically masculine. Shorter haircuts, or styles that are longer on the top and shorter on the sides, can subtly change your appearance. If you use a female reference for your photo when you show your parents what you want they may not suspect anything. You can see our post on convincing your parents to let you get a haircut without coming out here.
If a haircut isn’t possible, consider styles like pulling your hair back in a low bun or wearing hats. If you're Black, cornrows, box braids, and locs are styles that can be gender neutral depending on how you wear them. There's a few links on that here.
There are also things you can do to come across as subtly more masculine without buying anything at all.
Sometimes, adopting a more traditionally masculine posture and body language can make a difference. This doesn't usually have a big impact on passing, but it can help you feel better about yourself and boost your self-confidence and reduce dysphoria, and it's something that your family may not notice because it's easy to alter when you're with them. You can see a post about masculine body language here.
Similarly, you can try voice training and practice speaking in a slightly lower tone or in a more monotone style, which is often perceived as more masculine. Be careful not to strain your voice, though, and maybe avoid doing it while you're with your family. You can see a post about voice training here.
Engaging in exercises that build upper body strength can also help in achieving a more masculine physique. Focus on workouts that target the shoulders, back, and arms. You can often do body weight workouts at home in your room without needing a gym membership or specialized exercise equipment.
Find a support system, whether it's friends, online communities, or a counselor/therapist, who understand and support your gender identity. This can provide a safe space to express yourself and explore your identity. It can help to have other friends who are also masculine to feel like you're not isolated.
Observing and adopting some masculine behavioral cues, like how men typically occupy space or interact in social settings, can also be a subtle way to express masculinity, but you want to be careful that you're not imitating toxic masculinity / obnoxious guys. Similarly, engaging in hobbies or interests that are stereotypically masculine can be a subtle way to align with male peers, but always choose activities that genuinely interest you and you can probably find other guys out there who are also interested in the things you already care about to be friends.
The above suggestions are all things that you can do without your parents necessarily noticing. Binding is something that may not be subtle depending on your chest size, so while it is possible to sometimes bind in front of family without them noticing (saying it's a sports bra, for example) I would recommend keeping your binder in your backpack and only changing into it at school in the bathroom / at a friend's house / in a public bathroom when you're out with friends but not family, etc. unless you really are wearing only a single well-fitting sports bra. You can see more about buying a binder and that whole process in this post.
It's harder to be seen as masculine or male when you're pre-medical transition and not passing which means people often have to "overcompensate" by being more masculine than they would otherwise choose to be, but as always, I'd like to note that it can be possible to pass as male / be masculine while doing any of the things I recommended changing!
So while I might advise someone who wants to come off as more masculine "don't paint your nails" for example, that is a general rule and doesn't mean that you have to follow those guidelines if you're really passionate about painting your nails. You can always choose whatever gender expression you're comfortable with. There are plenty of guys who wear nail polish and otherwise come across as masculine or who are recognized as men. It's important to remember that masculinity is diverse and there's no one right way to be masculine.
Followers, any other tips on performing subtle masculinity that won't make transphobic parents suspicious?

Questions to ask myself:
What do I want to have achieved by the end of the summer?
Let's see.... A lot of money invested into my filmmaking equipment to make several horror films and stories before the world ends; a lot of photoshoots, and I'm talking pin-up, 1950's inspired photoshoots, horror inspired shoots... Getting back into modeling entirely. Specifically with a great expensive photographer, ideally the one I worked with on that music cover album a while back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention successfully making connections for a good online talk show, modeling, making short films with other actors and actresses, and overall going to galas and fun luxury events!
I want ideally 8 beautiful high quality portraits done of myself that are unique and awe-inspiring that I have to show off to my future generations to come, a few solid flings that set me up for life, and some amazing connections indeed!
And a lot of completed scripts that are in my hands AND grant me all the benefits I desire! And a few reels, acting AND producing and directing all under my belt!
What gifts do I want this summer?
Tennis necklace. Tennis bracelet. Sapphire earrings. Emerald ring and matching earrings. Frankly, a nice collection of any sort of expensive gemstones I like, any time, always.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An expensive and exquisite car, specifically a low rider car, but that's if I am also taught to drive! Specifically one that looks like a sexier version of a 1950's convertible.
An entire film set and studio in my name, in the exact image and ideal way. Plenty of expensive film cameras, high end microphones, lighting and more, and money to invest in all the films I want to produce for myself and have my portfolio jumpstarted.
Not to mention any subscriptions to things like Costco, any high end vitamins and food programs, DoorDash, and a consistent natural hairstylist who knows how to handle african 4c hair. I want luscious hair regardless of the texture, long and healthy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well paid, fridge full, having a grand ol' time with each other. Even a personal credit card, to buy as many things for myself in life as I would desire!
I have a music video concept? Consider the photographers and videographers met with and the outfits bought. I have a song? Consider the producers and mixers met with and scheduled into my system. i want to learn to sing or play piano? Here's my instructor, world reknown, and autistic, so he will be patient with me.
I want to know how it feels to have an exquisite shopping experience with a glass of champagne for free, and a nice shiny ring on my hand that I bought at a store and can 1000% enjoy for life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if I really wanted to go insane if I had the money.... Rare items. Rare unique jewelry. Crossbred flowers and succulents, and crossbred fruit trees. Show me you love me, make an apple and mango crossbreed that I can have for years and enjoy sustenance off of.
Any social scenes I wish to join, and what for?
Filmmaking networking scenes. I am meeting celebrities and having a fun time as a socialite who is praised for her intellect and wisdom around the film industry. Who can mentor and teach me things. I collaborate with them, and have a fantastic time bonding with them and enhancing scripts even more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also collaborating with high profile musicians, who also help me and my friends produce music together and get more well connected in the industry. Event makers, to actually make my city a lot more together, and throw events that raise money for the local schools and the underground art scene to help people flourish. Also befriending other luxury young women with girlfriends could be very nice! The goal getters, the high achievers, the ones who strive for the most out of life, always!
Always!
How would I look with the dates I have?
Vivaciously sexy; either long beautiful braids, or a nice Pamela Anderson style wig. Think of Megan thee Stallion's current wig for her tour, for context. But if I wanna spice it up, a colored white or pink wig if I meet a man in the wild who wants to strike up conversation could be fun. There's always someone looking for a dream girl.

I would go for a siren look. Yet, clean girl. Clear beautiful healthy shiny skin, that's borderline reflective as a Hajime Sorayama painting, and full colorful yet natural glossy tinter lips, with eye catching eyes. An amazing pin-up figure that makes jaws drop, but enough to cover it and look effortlessly good. Loose enough to show I'm a lady, but tight enough to show I'm a woman.
Not trying to seem overly conservative or classy, but not trying to make people think I'm an escort. The perfect fashion balance of someone with money and confidence who walks into any room, in any outfit, and looks exquisite either way.
All of this is claimed to be mine this summer, and so it shall be.
It is all mine, always and forever, god bless and amen.
