I’m sorry but you will never make me care about Taylor Swift’s jet usage. She’s one of the few celebrities who actually needs to use a jet for her own safety AND so that the airport can remain operating. The last time she tried to fly commercial (which was in 2015) she was swarmed by fans and the airport had to shut down temporarily.
Rather than recycling, volunteering, getting solar panels, buying recycled materials, etc etc y’all just wanna point your finger and blame the blonde singer. I know she’s rich guys but she’s also one of the few celebrities who donates A LOT of her money. She even sent me 3,013 dollars in 2020.
That’s how I know it’s all bullshit and you just wanna be a pathetic hater bc there’s tons of things you could be doing to actually help the environment but instead you bitch online and think vandalizing her jet (wrong jet btw) is some kind of political statement. That’s a few hours of your time you wasted when you could be cleaning up your local park.

Solar balconies are booming in Germany
Solar balconies are a piece of the wider energy transition across Europe, explains Jan Osenberg, a policy advisor at the SolarPower Europe association.
“We see them as a subset of rooftop solar, but also as something different,” he tells Euronews Green. “We basically see it as a trend to use all possible artificial infrastructure for solar generation.”
Train tracks, motorways, carparks, car roofs, cemeteries and building facades… the list of structures getting a solar makeover goes on and on.
Tumblr media
Plug & Play Kits
From a customer point of view, the main difference is that balcony PV is much easier to install. You can buy the kit online, and don’t need an electrician to set it up. Unlike for rooftop installations, where certified installers are recommended to avoid fire risks and damage to the structure.
In short: the panels are put on a mounting structure and attached via cables to an inverter that converts the electricity from DC to AC, which goes into your socket via a regular plug.
Tumblr media
Who are solar balconies for?
“The main reason for the success of balcony solar systems is that it gives people the chance to use solar who weren’t able to use it before,” says a spokesperson for German manufacturer Meyer Burger.
“Most people don’t own a house, or they cannot install rooftop solar because of heritage protection, shading, or other constructional conditions of the roof. For them, balcony solar is appealing because they can use solar power to generate their own electricity and reduce their electric bills.”

Today I went to the Melting Plant, brought all the guns we got in the drop box. It was a lot, even heavier than the first day of the program.
To be completely honest I never thought that many people would participate when it was announced... I mean yeah it was 800$ for every single gun you'd bring, but after the president terminated their gun manufacturers contracts the air was dense. Everyone started to prepare for a civil war.
And there were discussions in every single city, for months, the media was full of experts talking about guns, their impact on human interaction, the need to build trust between the people and their government. And even though conspirationists can't really be stopped, the amount of live fact checking and moderation online really did its part. Then, on February 29th 2100, the Government destroyed their military weapons. Publicly. It was live streamed everywhere, and instead of burning the man, they burned guns, tanks, grenades. Smoke swallowed up by the hangar's vents and processed into building materials.
The year after, they built the first melting plant in Texas, after years of struggle to make them vote for it. And it was like something had switched, it was becoming rare to see guns in poorer parts of the city, people were buying guns for cheap at Walmart and selling it to the government, and since it was not taxable revenue, poor people started to buy houses, or renovate theirs. And yeah Walmart tried to raise their prices... but the government responded by placing a 1% profit cap on weapons, so it wasn't profitable to sell them anymore. Same thing with buying in bulk, it wasn't possible anymore, you had to buy a gun with your license, placed on a database which would check how many guns you had in your procession, and if you had more than 2, you couldn't buy more unless you brought them to the melting plant to be destroyed.
In 2102 cops finally got rid of their guns entirely, now using what Japan and the UK were using for decades, Taiho-jutsu and tasers, shields and basic communication skills. Finally american police were being trained. And it was a success frankly, cops were less explosive, they now knew how to defend themselves with their body, and were celebrated when they didn't hurt the person during an arrest. Things changed, suddenly people were interacting with cops without the fear of being shot.
A lot of people died that year. Well, less than the previous year, but still a lot, especially compared to now. There was a protest, people complaining about their second amendment right, but there were so few people... It was kind of funny actually, like the last cough of a dying petrol car. But there was no media coverage, nobody talked about it, so it didn't happen again. People were feeling better going to the grocery store knowing they won't see any guns there anymore. And apart from the few people desperate to keep their weapons enough to hurt someone... The transition was obvious. Even movies started to portray guns as barbaric and foolish, and we slowly realized they were. Nobody needs a machine that can kill dozens of people in a few seconds.
Damn that was a whole tangent... Anyway yeah we made $57600 today, and that'll pay for the whole community solar panels.
Life is getting better and better.

I've always thought of myself as the kind of guy who'd do well living the van life. We had RVs growing up and we'd take them out 3x a year and it was fun, albeit a little cramped, but I think that wouldn't deter a semi-permanent living space for 1-2 people plus maybe a dog or two. The idea of freedom yet familiarity is just sooooo appealing... Tired of this spot? just go somewhere else, but your living arrangement stays the same! You can cook inside and outside! Get solar panels to keep your battery charged! Go electric and save even more money on gasoline, and get a hydrogen fuel cell and reduce your emissions even further! Get some sort of mobile router for Wifi and do some online work or something and you'll still be connected to all your friends and still be able to make some income to buy food and other necessities! I know that it's more work than I probably think it is but honestly the more I think about it the more I want it...
The only major drawback is my crippling driving phobia.

I haven't thought about it in awhile but God I loved radio shack. I know this is a parallel to tumblr ruining their own product but, like, to people who never experienced radio shack as like tinkerers? I would be strapping ten little solar panels to the back of a TV and the math said that under direct sunlight it would work, and then I needed a handful of wire connectors and while I was at it, one of the fuses to the TV had seen better days. Radio shack had all those things. You could buy one coax male plug, or a pack of ten little electric motors. I dont think I threw away a single electrical appliance for like ten years, until I went in one day and they were "the shack" and it was all remote control vehicles and maybe they had bulk ethernet cable if they hadn't sold out their stock yet. From maybe my favorite store ever to completely fucking empty and useless basically overnight! And no store has ever replaced them, some towns I've been to have a little electrics store sometimes, but no ones doing it on a national stage. I could really use a female female coax adaptor for the antenna in my rv, I guess I'll have to order one online for a nickel and 20 dollars shipping.
Does anyone remember what happened to Radio Shack?
They started out selling niche electronics supplies. Capacitors and transformers and shit. This was never the most popular thing, but they had an audience, one that they had a real lock on. No one else was doing that, so all the electronics geeks had to go to them, back in the days before online ordering. They branched out into other electronics too, but kept doing the electronic components.
Eventually they realize that they are making more money selling cell phones and remote control cars than they were with those electronic components. After all, everyone needs a cellphone and some electronic toys, but how many people need a multimeter and some resistors?
So they pivoted, and started only selling that stuff. All cellphones, all remote control cars, stop wasting store space on this niche shit.
And then Walmart and Target and Circuit City and Best Buy ate their lunch. Those companies were already running big stores that sold cellphones and remote control cars, and they had more leverage to get lower prices and selling more stuff meant they had more reasons to go in there, and they couldn't compete. Without the niche electronics stuff that had been their core brand, there was no reason to go to their stores. Everything they sold, you could get elsewhere, and almost always for cheaper, and probably you could buy 5 other things you needed while you were there, stuff Radio Shack didn't sell.
And Radio Shack is gone now. They had a small but loyal customer base that they were never going to lose, but they decided to switch to a bigger but more fickle customer base, one that would go somewhere else for convenience or a bargain. Rather than stick with what they were great at (and only they could do), they switched to something they were only okay at... putting them in a bigger pond with a lot of bigger fish who promptly out-competed them.
If Radio Shack had stayed with their core audience, who knows what would have happened? Maybe they wouldn't have made a billion dollars, but maybe they would still be around, still serving that community, still getting by. They may have had a small audience, but they had basically no competition for that audience. But yeah, we only know for sure what would happen if they decided to attempt to go more mainstream: They fail and die. We know for sure because that's what they did.
I don't know why I keep thinking about the story of what happened to Radio Shack. It just keeps feeling relevant for some reason.
