Green Healthcare: Reducing the Environmental Footprint of Medical Disposable
The organized industry of providing medical care to individuals or community is the broad definition of ‘Healthcare’. Over the years healthcare industry has undergone tremendous transformation. From the equipment and methods used for diagnosis to medicines and treatments, from the way treatment is administered, patients are monitored. Even supplies that are used in day-to-day practice have witnessed a renaissance. This change has contributed heavily to better treatment, a lower number of fatalities, and an overall increase in the betterment of the healthcare industry. The medical equipment suppliers in UAE, played a major role in advancing the UAE healthcare industry.
However, these practices have also contributed to growing medical waste. There has been a significant rise in carbon emission due from healthcare sector's carbon emissions due to a variety of activities, including the supply chain, energy usage in buildings, transportation, and medical waste disposal. The reason is that the healthcare industry consumes a massive amount of resources. This leads to the generation of substantial amounts of waste, especially from the use of disposable medical supplies and equipment. The major factor contributing to this phenomenon is the use of single-use items. Single-use items are on the rise for the purpose of increasing patient safety and infection control. While the mortality and fatality rates are flattening, this achievement comes at the cost of increased bio-medical pollution, extensive use of natural resources, and an increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council, hospitals in the United States generate over 5.9 million tons of waste annually, with an estimated 20% to 30% consisting of plastic items. These numbers just represent the severity of the problem unjust one of the developed countries of the world. The global numbers are disturbing. The World Economic Forum forecasts that if left unchecked, the healthcare sector's CO2 footprint could triple by 2050. The plastic waste generated due to this industry is a major contributor to microplastic pollution. Microplastic is a known contributor to increasing health risks. The leading medical consumable suppliers in Dubai, are also aware of this phenomenon.
With so many agendas being caused due to one industry, it is high time to address this problem for a better and safer tomorrow. ‘Green healthcare’ is the answer to these issues and a sustainable way forward for the healthcare industry. This trend works on maintaining high standards for patient care while adopting sustainable practices and exploring alternatives to disposable medical supplies. The current medical supplies companies in UAE and all over the world are taking notice of this trying to come up with solutions.
Reusable medical supplies and equipment are one the major game changers in the green movement. However, the transition from single-use supplies to reusable is slow but steady. Supplies like surgical gowns, drapes, and basins, can be sterilized and reused multiple times. Even reusable equipment made of stainless steel instruments can significantly reduce the amount of disposable plastic waste produced.
Healthcare institutes have a major role in curbing the use of single-use disposable items. They need to prioritize the use of eco-friendly and biodegradable materials. Another option that is speedily contributing to Green Healthcare is Bioplastics derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch and sugarcane. These alternatives are a more sustainable alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics. There are new products in healthcare that are made from bamboo and paper can be used for certain medical supplies, reducing the reliance on non-biodegradable plastics.
Proper Waste Management and effective recycling systems are necessary to reduce pollution caused by medical disposables. It will also help in reducing the environmental impact caused due to it. Even regulating bodies like government departments need to set up strict protocols for recycling initiatives. They need to be designed and implemented for different types of waste including plastics, paper, and metals. An effort needs to be made to divert only recyclable material to landfills so that the healthcare industry can reduce its carbon footprint.
The path towards a greener healthcare system requires a collective commitment from all stakeholders. By embracing eco-friendly alternatives, implementing effective waste management strategies, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility, healthcare providers can lead the way in reducing the environmental impact of medical disposables and creating a more sustainable future for all.

George/Alex sex shop meet cute, ft. George's questionable customer service skills and unquestionable knowledge of inventory:
Alex finds himself in the sex shop because he has decided, after great deliberation, to face up to the fact that he is a bisexual man, and his occasional hookups require more equipment than he has in his flat.
He tugs open the door which boasts a cheery little welcome sign that is quite possibly adorned with an anthropomorphized, ejaculating penis, and tries not to flinch when his eyes meet row upon row of phallic objects in glossy packaging. The bell on the door jingles as it swings shut, and Alex crams his hands in his pockets, surveying the aisles.
Choosing to get the job done quickly, Alex rocks up to the first aisle and strolls past the shelves decisively. He chooses a dildo at random and pulls the box off the rack to examine it. The packaging reads EXTRA LARGE HOG in graffiti letters with a grinning devil waving a pitchfork underneath the logo. The dildo itself is grossly fleshy in a shade that would imply that the phallus’s owner (if it had one) was suffering from jaundice.
Alex flings the dildo back on the rack, repulsed. God, maybe his own cock will have to do. He doesn’t know if he has the stomach to stay in the shop for long enough to make a purchase.
He’ll call Lily, he considers, backing away from the shelves. He’ll ask her where she bought her cute little rose thing and then order online with a hand covering his face, peeking through the cracks between his fingers. People have told him he’s good in bed, right? He wouldn’t get any less ass if his nightstand drawer remained empty of dildos and cock rings and butt plugs and whatever other horrifying—
While Alex spirals about the state of his sex life, someone down the aisle coughs.
Alex’s heart skips a beat, and he nearly springs backwards, his trainers squeaking on the floor while he regains his balance.
“You really shouldn’t buy that one,” says a pale, pinched, and actually rather fit employee standing two metres away from Alex. His hair is floppy and a rather ordinary brown, and his collared shirt is buttoned to the throat. His name tag reads George.
“Beg your pardon?” says Alex, and nearly chokes swallowing his own saliva.
“I said you really shouldn’t buy that one,” says George, sweeping a hand through his hair and frowning. “If you’re shopping for a missus, studies have shown that thermoplastic elastomers can disrupt reproductive health.”
“Missus,” says Alex, rolling the word over on his tongue. “Thermoplastic elastomer.”
George blinks owlishly. “Yes. And if you’re shopping for a mister, TPE is porous, so it’s very difficult to properly sanitize,” he explains.
Alex shakes his head. He glances at the wall of dildos in their gaudy packaging and then back at George. His lanyard seems to be patterned with the same little walking, grinning pensises that the welcome sign bore.
“What’s TPE?” says Alex, for lack of anything better to do with his mouth.
“Thermoplastic elastomers,” says George. “I just said.”
“And those are?” says Alex.
George runs a hand through his hair again and sucks in a breath. He steps towards Alex—which causes shivers to course down Alex’s spine, for some reason—and points towards the EXTRA LARGE HOG box.
“Look,” he says, pointing to the corner of the box which bears writing so small Alex can barely read it. “TPE. Not body-safe.”
“So,” says Alex, information whirling in his head. The fluorescent lighting is giving him a headache. The glare glancing off all the clear plastic packaging gives the sex shop a dream-like quality, like any second Alex will wake up erect and sweating through his covers. “So, why would it be on sale if it’s… not body-safe?”
“You see,” says George, his eyes lighting up. “Since sexual enhancers are classified as novelty items rather than therapeutic medical devices, manufacturers are able to exploit a gaping loophole and produce products for cheap using unsafe materials. For example, our top-selling Starbright Bangers—” George gestures to a display of pale, jellylike dildos of increasing length and girth. “—contain phthalates which have been shown in male animals to precipitate a greater risk of malformed penises, and—” George’s jaw snaps shut.
Alex inhales, his hands balled in his pockets, staring straight into George’s giant eyes. “You can keep going,” says Alex.
“No, I—” says George. “No. I’m done.”
“So,” says Alex. He pulls his fists from his pockets and forces his hands to hang limply at his sides. “So I’m looking for a dildo.”
“Ah,” says George, blinking again. “What kind of dildo?”
Alex swallows. “Any kind? I’m not exactly an… experienced buyer?”
“Okay,” says George, tilting his head back and forth. “Alright. Do you know what you like?”
“It’s not for me,” says Alex, quickly. “It’s just that I want to… spice things up, in the bedroom.”
“Ah,” says George, again. “So we’re looking for something versatile.” He spins to face the aisle, scanning the wall of dildos. He glances towards Alex, his dark brows furrowing. He really is rather pretty, Alex thinks. Pretty in that prim, poncy way that boarding school fantasies are supposed to be. Not that Alex has ever had any of those.
“You never did tell me whether you’re looking for a missus or mister,” says George.
“Either. Both,” says Alex, throat dry.
George hums, tapping his foot. He squats to the floor, tugging a box off the lowest shelf. “Try this,” he says, handing it up to Alex.
Alex turns the box around and squints at it meaningfully. The packaging is rather nondescript, offering a photo of the product (slim, blue, rechargeable) and the product name (SKINNY SATISFIER).
“Great,” says Alex, pinning it under his arm. “Perfect. I’ll get this. Thanks for your help.”
George unfolds from his squat, rising to a height that’s maybe just a millimetre shorter than Alex. “You don’t want anything else?” says George, making his big owl eyes again.
“I’ll just be on my way,” says Alex, stuffing his hands in his pockets again. “Thanks a bunch.”
George’s mouth opens and then closes, a bit like a fish. Then it opens again. “You should probably get an anal plug,” says George. “Very popular. And you can get them without rhinestones on the bottom, if you're worried. We have all sorts. Hold on a second.”
George dashes down the aisle while Alex remains frozen, dildo under his arm. When George returns, he’s carrying an armful of boxes. “Here,” he says. “Pick the one you like.”
Alex eyes the mountain of boxes and the product images he can see. Some of them are rather feminine. He supposes he could use them on a girl. Or on a boy of a particular persuasion.
“They’re all… body-safe?” says Alex.
George rolls his eyes. “Stainless steel. So, obviously.” He makes meaningful eyes at the heap of boxes in his arms.
“Great,” says Alex, plucking one at random off the top.
George lets out a breath and dumps the remainder on a shelf strewn with bottles of novelty lube. “I can ring you up over there, if you like.”
“Oookay,” says Alex, fisting his dildo in one hand and his butt plug in the other. He follows George up to the cash where a scary-looking girl with teased hair and a lip piercing is ringing up a complicated leather harness.
“Here you go,” says George, when he’s finished scanning Alex’s items and has presented Alex with a (thank God) plain paper shopping bag to carry them in. George plunges his hand into a jar beside the register, pulls out a handful of foil packets and drops them in Alex’s bag. “Every customer gets a free scoop of lemon sherbet flavoured prophylactics with a purchase of thirty pounds or more,” George explains.
“Brilliant,” says Alex, wondering when he’ll wake up.
George waves, his lanyard swinging against his shirt. “Shop again soon!”

Hey Writers
Have you ever been writing a disabled character and wished there was just one great source on as many pieces of adaptive technology, medical equipment, accessibility devices, and whatever else have you as possible? Have you ever spent hours scouring the internet trying to find a source with everything your disabled character might need?
Well, have I got a site for you.
Rehabmart is an online store with a catalogue of thousands of rehabilitation, medical, and accessibility devices, ranging from simple things like canes to major medical equipment like cardiac catheterization items, all listed with what the items are, what they do, and even how they help certain symptoms or non-specific conditions. All of this is sorted neatly into several dozen simple categories on this page here. The information provided on the site may not answer your every question, but it's a fantastic starting point for the largest range of items I've ever seen from one source.
Consider checking it out.
(Disclaimer, I am endorsing this site as a writing aid, not as a place to buy medical equipment online. Please only buy equipment from sources you can trust to be safe.)

Hurricane Helene survivors, here's some advice copypasted from MetaFilter on how to maximize your disaster assistance benefits.
Most of you should qualify for at least $750/person and possibly a lot more.
FEMA has declared Individual Assistance (IA) for Hurricane Helene. What does this mean for you? It means that you can apply for disaster assistance from FEMA to help offset your disaster-related expenses.
You can apply online at https://www.disasterassistance.gov/ or by telephone at (800) 621-3362. Otherwise, you can download the FEMA weather app from Google PlayStore or the Apple Store and you can apply for assistance on the app and upload receipts. Whichever method you choose, the form has a few questions that are tricky.
To avoid delay, please follow the following tips:
1. One of the questions that FEMA will ask when you register is “Do You Have Emergency Needs”? This means during your evacuation or since staying at home during the disaster, do you need help with Gas, Medication, Food (meals, water, had no power and everything spoils), Shelter (you are staying with friends, family or in a hotel); Clothing; or Durable Medical Equipment (oxygen, walkers, cane, glasses, all major equipment, etc). If this is true, say “YES” to this question. That will result in your receiving Displacement / Critical Needs Assistance, which is $750.
2. When asked if your home is/was accessible, answer "NO" if there was debris, tree branches, continued flooding, loss of power, damage or destruction that prevented you from staying there after Helene. This question is asking whether you can stay at your home or apartment and will trigger the ability for you to receive assistance to pay for hotels or provide funding to use while you stay with family or friends.
3. When asked if utilities are out, say "YES" even if your utilities were out for a few days. This triggers assistance $ to stay somewhere other than your home or to buy fuel to power a generator.
4. When asked “Are you willing to relocate” say "YES" if you cannot live in your home due to damage, loss of power, etc. This question means you are willing to stay in a hotel or apartment temporarily, and triggers that funding for you. It is not asking if you are willing to move away from your home permanently.
5. If you bought or buy a generator, FEMA will reimburse you up to $629, but you must submit the receipt. If you bought a chainsaw, FEMA will reimburse you up to $219. Again, you need to provide the receipt. Save your receipts

Hazardcore is an aesthetic that’s already existed for a long time, but that I’ve incorporated into my near-post-scarcity worldbuilding project.
What do people in such a post scarcity world do? With no job, free rent, free food, free internet, a monthly stipend around $1500 (2023 continental US buying power… ish) and hobby shops nearby, hiking trails everywhere, drugs, power tools, and spray paint available for a reasonable price, all delivered by automated train from… y’know… over there. Somewhere.
The (a) result is Hazardcore, a movement of people who enjoy dangerous hobbies of all kinds sharing their experiences and custom gear online, seeking out ways to top themselves and each other, design and build new equipment to do it, and make sure you’ve got the skill and balls to pull it off.
I doodle fashion designs, but that can tell part of the story. They incorporate a lot of caution stripes, warning labels, and bright colors, both for fun and because it can legit save your life.
And as any subculture that people devote their entire lives to has, it’s developed more… frivolous fashion as well. Sometimes fashion gets in the way of safety and… well, medical care is also free and bloodstains fit the aesthetic.
And a lot of people die. It’s widely socially discouraged. Some people call it a cult.

IMPORTANT: My Situation and GoFundMe
Hola y hello, to those who don't know who I am. I'm Itzel aka Kawaiipony Productions. I'm a 17 y/o (mostly Mlp) YouTuber. I'm non-binary asexual biromantic (he/she/they) and I'm also an AuDHDer. And well, I need help. I live in an emotionally abusive household and my own “father” is my abuser. And while my mom isn’t as bad and my relationship with her has gotten better in recent years, she has still caused harm even by letting a lot of this slide.
Around February 18th, 2022, my parents snooped on my phone and found out I was trans. They had taken my phone, tablet, and Nintendo Switch. Which I wouldn’t mind too much if I didn’t purchase majority of these. I bought my tablet myself sometime around 2018 to 2019 with my own money. And I split half and half with one of my sisters to buy our Switch. That is hundreds not only stolen, but also destroyed as they’ve broken my tablet (which was around $300-350 when I bought it) previous instances it’s been taken from me. And I have not received any of these devices since.
Not only that, but my abuser in the past years of me dealing with my abusive relationship with him, h has threatened not only kick me out of the house, but also send me to the military without my consent or send me to my family in México to “straighten me out.” Not to mention his constant ableism towards me. From being anti-vax (a very ableist rhetoric towards autistics), forcing me to mask, etc.
This has led to me secretly doing my job as a part-time YouTuber for the past 2 years now, especially since I was forced to delete the previous Kawaiipony Productions channel cause of him. I have a GFM to help fund me for being able to get proper equipment again for doing my work. Not only that, but also possibly for things I plan to get once I turn 18 such as starting to get therapy, medication for my ADHD, etc. And now that I started dating my girlfriend, Vikki, I want to start saving some of this money to possibly meet her irl sometime next year.
I am taking a few small paid jobs for work right now, but it’s still not enough for my situation. So, you may ask, how can I help? Well, if you have the money, donate to my GFM. My GFM goal is $2,000 and I still need around $1,200 for reaching my goal. I also have adoptables for sale right now for $25 each. If you can’t financially help, then you can share not only my GFM, but my work. From my artwork, my videos on YouTube, and projects I’ve been a part of as a voice actor, animator, and/or artist. Any of this helps support me through everything going on in my life. I could really use it right now. So any and all support helps me out. Thank you all for reading this thread, I appreciate any and all support I need!!!

updated 3/6/2024 with Gaza Wound Care & We Feed Gaza. I wanted to focus on Palestinian-run grassroots initiatives that will actually reach Gazans on the ground, so all of these except eSIMs, PCRF, MAP are by Palestinians. i have verified them but please feel free to do your own vets for your peace of mind.
Remember small donations really do add up. Any amount counts, even $1!
