Happy Valentine's Day!

I made some art yesterday for one of my more favorite lair relationships, Sugarpetal (male Snapper, right) and Sandscale (female ridgeback, left) for Valentine's day! There the classic friends to lovers ship, but my demi heart loves those to pieces.

They're story is basically that Sandscale offered to join Sugarpetal as clan counts (which vaguely works as a generation's president, kind of), as he was the kid of the dragon's who gave Clan Stardust (clan's name) a home in the wind territory, which made his parents really important. Sandscale thought a union would help combine the clans well and Sugarpetal agreed. They didn't expect that they would fall in love, but that happens sometimes

“You’re sure the house apparel is okay?”

The words tumble out your mouth as you smooth out your blue sweater for the fifth time over the ten minute walk back to Harry’s Parent’s house. You thought meeting his family after your date instead of before would ease some of your nerves, but the opposite had occurred. Dinner had giving you more time to ponder over all the things that could go wrong.

While you don’t doubt that his family is just as amazing as he is, meeting them is working you up a little. For some reason, meeting them just feels so official. Not that you aren’t sure about Harry. You plan to cling to his side until he’ll no longer have you. (Which you hope is a day that’ll never come.) It just sends a kaleidoscope of fast-fluttering butterflies to your stomach to know things were getting serious. That he was serious about you.

“I’ve told you, it’s fine.” He squeezes your hand And kisses the side of it. The affection is almost enough to make you drop the anxiousness completely. “They won’t pay much attention to your sweater. And even if they do, you look great. Better than that. You look perfect.” His words bring a warm flush to your cheeks as you nibble on your lip, now with something akin to bashfulness.

“I just want this to go—“

“—perfectly, I know.”

His smile is calm and kind, like you’re being completely reasonable and not freaking out over nothing. “If I’m honest, I don’t see how it could go any other way. You’re perfect, so everything you do is just as. By extension.” A sheepish giggle bubbles from your throat as you squeeze his hand. “Science?” You tease as your shoulders start to relax “Hardly. Everything you do is magic,” he stops walking to give you a little smirk. “Literally.” You reward him with another, louder and more boisterous, laugh. (Next time he wants to go for full belly.)

As you approach his house, you look at him one more time for reassurence. He presses his lips to your cheek. “They’ll love you. Seriously, what’s not to like?” He kisses your other cheek. “And even if they don’t—which won’t happen—they’ll have to warm up to you because I really, really like you. More than that. I love you.” Your eyes widen like saucers, but he chooses is to ignore it for now. “So this’ll be fine, yeah?” He doesn’t wait for your answer as he pushes the door open, dragging you through the door.

thinking about the way he’d pick you up from uni, looking too damn good in nothing but his plain black apparel – not like you’re really shocked, after all, that body could make a sack of rice look good.

“what the hell?” you gasp out, blinking up at him.

he had been MIA for a few months now and you know it had to do with his job, the specifics lost on you given how secretive he always turned into whenever you prodded and asked. you had been waiting for his return, your heart brimming with impatience and helplessness because it wasn’t like you could track him down – he made sure that you couldn’t.

so finally seeing him again, after the trickling time, feels so surreal. like he is a mirage that your sleep deprived mind conjured up because you couldn’t stop aching for him.

“hey, sweetheart,” he says like he didn’t just rock your whole world. his voice is deep and gruff in the way you always knew it sounded like but just hearing it again sends tingles running down your spine.

christ, you really missed him.

he walks up to you, tentative in his steps – not born from hesitation, but an olive branch; he’s giving you the authority to call the shots. he’s giving you the room to walk away if you need to, but there’s something in his gait that tells you that he’d run after you anyway. that he’d take on your anger and your frustrations, and melt them away with his affection.

you swallow the lump in your throat, closing the distance between you with shaky steps. you stare at him, your heart thudding in your chest, before reaching to grasp at the hem of his jacket. his eyes crinkle in fondness and you ignore the burning of your cheeks at seeing just how tender he’s become.

“you, uh, you staying?” you ask, biting the inside of your cheeks in anxiousness.

you don’t want him to leave yet, to leave so soon after he’s just come back to you, but duty calls. and he has always been the best at what he does, or so he says.

“yeah,” he replies, his hand coming up to brush your hair away from your face. “you’ll get sick o’me soon.”

“never!”

you sniff in embarrassment at your sudden exclamation, but he just continues to look at you with reverence behind his eyes. god, you can already feel the butterflies in your stomach smothering you.

“good,” he says. “now c’mere an’ give me a kiss.”

you jump in his arms with a giggle.

also OKAY here is a vague guide on how i do my flatlays. first the bg is savage brand photo backdrop paper - they have a TON of colors and sizes to choose from!

its nice and sturdy and unless you REALLY abuse it, it lasts a loooong time. for the lights i just use some cheapy ones i got forever ago but ive been meaning to upgrade to some brighter ones.

next i usually like to pick a theme and think about how i want to style my items - i used to use my own wardrobe to pair with my apparel but had to branch out and start buying clothing specifically to use for props haha. then i take the theme (in this case it was fairycore) and try to come up with a bunch of items that matches the theme - but in general you cant go wrong with pretty things like faux flowers, cool looking books/magazines, cute purses or bags, hobby-related items like video games or art supplies. just like go wild and channel your inner magpie hoarding pretty looking items. if you have a good thrift store nearby you can get really cool glasses/metal homegoods that make gorgeous props, not to mention old books and little trinkets. Pinterest is helpful if you have a theme but cant come up with enough items to fit the theme too!

anyway this is a bit more extensive than you asked but i figured maybe others would find the info useful as well Lmao i looooove making themes and planning for photoshoots
