Agree!!
The annoying thing for me is that the later seasons absolutely did better at rendering Mayuri's face, however the early series motion was much more animated.
A lot of the later series had very well rendered faces but a lot of static animation:
And unfortunately when trying to animate these very well rendered shots for something more advanced (head turning, full-face movement, etc) the character easily goes off-model.
As opposed to some of the older series, where there is a lot more advanced motion that maintains accurate proportions.
I just really want the animators to combine the rendered quality of the later series with the advanced motion of the earlier series. Unfortunately as beautiful as the latest season is, I'm not v reassured by gifs like this >_<
But I've made my peace with it, Mayuri must be a nightmare for animators 🤣 but at least I know I can always rely on Kubo's Mayuri <3 <3 <3
I have so many thoughts about this man and I have no regrets
I love how over time you can see the animation get better with Bleach. I think you see this most with Mayuri.
A lot of characters didn't change for the most part when the animation improved you can see clearly the more skill they out into our favourite scientist.
From a much more simple animation style back in the SS arc
To the jump to Mayuri VS Szayel where we start seeing signs of age in his face that brings more character
To the Kageroza arc where I am convinced most of the budget went into his face
Seriously they just added MORE DETAIL as time went on.
This is why you don't see Mayuri so much. His face takes up half the budget
#I imagine the kind of animation I want is both incredibly costly in both time and money but must also requires a lot of skill#So tbh I set my expectations appropriately! I just wish it didn't have to be either good rendering or good motion >_<#But yes I too am in a Mayuri mood. Rotating that man in my brain like it's a microwave.#Mayuri Beloved
