Minecrafters Using Reference

Reference as in real world architecture, not other minecrafters' builds, though that's a fair way to learn too. Studying real world architecture gives insights about designing buildings, while studying other minecrafters would give insight into how to accomplish certain effects in Minecraft.

I didn't have more than passing interest in architecture before watching mcyt, but now whenever I'm outside, I'm evaluating the buildings around me. Do I like their shape? color? Any interesting details? Any wear or texture? And above all: How would you do that detail/shape/etc in minecraft? (please note: I don't even play minecraft)

Rendition and Inspiration

There's a minecraft project called BuildtheEarth that's replicating the earth in minecraft on a 1 to 1 scale. There's some fantastic builds on there.

On hermitcraft, Joe Hills is known for creating to scale renditions of real world places/objects. In season 10, he's tackled a project of massive scale with Bell Labs. He used a map from the library of congress to layout all the shapes!

These are examples of renditions/replicas/copies/whatever you want to call it (Although Joe's doubles as a community build area in place of massive parking lots).

Then there's using the buildings for inspiration. This may involve just taking bits and pieces. Or maybe you just take a color palette. Or maybe just the shape. Maybe you don't take anything but vibes. As a general rule, I think having multiple sources of inspiration is important so the new build doesn't end up feeling like a rendition instead of its own thing.

Bdubs in season 9 used the bakery from Kiki's Delivery Service as inspiration for his mud cafe. It can be seen in the wood framing, the stairs, the archway, the shape, the shed, the chimney designs. But the colors, the composition, Bdubs made changes that made it his own and combined the addition to his previous shop Moss o Menos.

The aesthetics of Geminitay's season 10 base is based on the video game Dredge. I feel like the most obvious influence is in her research castle and fishing boats. She used inspiration from the spooky sea creatures in the game to create a uniquely frightening angler shop.

In Pearl's Build a Day series, she did a week focused on real world places. Here's the one she designed after a countryside home in Australia (her home country):

Goodtimeswithscar in season 7, when starting Aqua Town, based his shop on old department stores:

I like looking at his Aqua Town builds in comparison to his Scarland Main Street facades, which draw additional inspiration from Disneyland:

I feel like, comparing the builds you can see how he's grown; he's learned new detailing tricks, found colors and textures that work better with the architecture style. The main street has a similar layout to Disneyland, but his buildings are all unique.

Mogswamp is working on a massive build that's based on architecture drawings from Renzo Picasso:

He's incorporating groin vaults from roman architecture too!

I think builders learning about existing architecture is so good. It can give them so many ideas to add into their toolbox. It reminds them of small details that give builds life, like small sheds, some pipes, porches. And the builds don't need to be realistic; My mind goes to work by Shovel and Joel. Or everything Mumbo has done in season 10.

crack (kinda?) theory: E-Soul's a cop and that's why he shot Moon

Preface: This is all entirely speculation. I could be wrong. I am a delusional mf so I need to say whatever's on my mind lmao

This episode we were introduced to the "clean-up" specialists with Blankster being able to induce amnesia with his punches. It's interesting, then, that E-Soul's PV has him standing in front of what is seemingly a memorial. A testament to never forget--we are then taken through a flashback of what seems to be a previous E-Soul's experience (considering the designs are different + the "past" E-Soul appears to have like, actual limbs). One of the few lines he has in the PV is this:

"You're a hero! Have you forgotten!"

Sure, that could be a mistranslation or a mere coincidence, but I'd like to suggest that E-Soul works along the same lines as the "clean-up" specialists--an agent of the association. Only, while they erase the traces of others, he is the one who must always remember. As they say, those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. And the history he remembers is one of unchecked heroes, abusing their powers. Specifically, he says that heroes "are those who bear the trust of the people" but :

"we pay the price that comes along." While I think this is obviously connected to the detrimental side effects of powers like Firm Man being unable to squat and Nice's OCD, what if it suggests that there needs to be a balance so that heroes do not abuse their powers? (if the side effects are on purpose though that'd be fucked). Or, rather, that heroes need to recall what their powers are for--to help people. After all, this episode we've had Miss J explicitly say heroes are nothing without their followers--yes, in the sense of the faith system--but also because heroes are there for the sake of their people.

So, why did he choose to kill Moon? What crime did our girlie commit by literally just existing? I think we need to ask a few other questions to get to the heart of that.

How and why did he get to the island at the same time Lin Ling did? Lin Ling is visibly healed when he comes to Moon--E soul had plenty of time to come and kill her before this. Although as far as I can tell, people don't seem to know Moon is (was) alive after the battle with Godeye (yknow, the whole focus being on Lin Ling to the point everyone just seemed to move on from Nice immediately), I find it somewhat unlikely he found out just as L0 was going to visit her and then hurried over, unless he has teleportation abilities too. We did see him chasing a speedster in episode 3 I think, so it isn't impossible his powers are at least partly movement based. That being said, I'm going to assume he already knew Moon was there and had prepared means to come to her beforehand. Only, he chose this point to specifically.

Why? Because she still had trust-given powers. However, as she herself said at the end of the episode, she had left the teleporter behind. And when did E-Soul kill her? Right as Lin Ling was going to give it back to her.

If she is still dead in the minds of people, she obviously isn't using her powers to help them. In fact, as long as she doesn't come out publicly, she can use her powers however she likes. So by gaining the teleporter back, she instantly becomes unchecked. She becomes exactly someone E-Soul might want to stop. It's only when she looks like she's going to take the teleporter that she dies--when she reaches for power.

(And it would also kinda explain why E-Soul is rank 9, below a freaking dog. The 10th spot is precarious because it is the barrier between the top 10 and the rest of the heroes--people aim for it almost as much as the position of X, and it's constantly changing. E-Soul, as number 9, can essentially evaluate who gets to move past rank 10 and into the top heroes proper. After all, we saw how L0 and Firm Man fell and changed in rank so swiftly.)

I've revisited my take on the Koopalings with revamped designs based on their hooman forms and giving them more love than nintendo ever gave them and I think I've finished setting up my AU and don't need to change anything else :0 so I'll tell you all about it under da cut!!!! ٩(◦`꒳´◦)۶

THE BASICS

In this AU, the Koopalings are Bowser's biological children.

Bowser Jr does not exist in this AU.

The AU takes place after the events of Super Mario Odyssey, meaning the Broodals show up in it too.

They are usually in human forms but I will draw their koopa forms occasionally.

Their personalities are vastly different from canon. I've kept some aspects from their canon personalities, but most of it has been rewritten.

CHARACTER INFORMATION

LARRY

Age: 15 | MBTI: INTP

The youngest of the siblings. He spends most of the time listening to his music and not caring much for what's around him. He usually appears listless and uninterested, however, when it comes to tennis matches, he changes completely. He will do anything to win, even cheat, and he is known to be a HUGE sore loser!

WENDY

Age: 16 | MBTI: ENTJ

The second youngest, born after Roy and Morton. She is a spoiled rotten brat who always gets the most expensive clothes, jewels and make-up that she can find in order to always look elegant. If she doesn't get her way, she will scream until she wins! She is extremely jealous of the princesses from Mushroom Kingdom and will go great lenghts to look better than them. However, she has a secret caring side for her brothers.

ROY

Age: 16 | MBTI: ENTP

The middle one in between Wendy and Morton. Roy's your average cool jock type: always flexing his muscles, training all day and trying to impress cute girls but failing miserably at it. Wendy often takes out her rage on him by yelling at him or attacking him, but deep down he knows she still appreciates him!

MORTON

Age: 16 | MBTI: ESTJ

Born before Roy and Wendy. As the most strict of the Koopalings, he is in charge of making Bowser's minions work 24/7 and reinforcing the rules so that nobody is caught slacking off. He is also known for being a loudmouth as he can spend hours talking even if nobody's listening to him, and he's got the perfect lungs for screaming too. Toads often mock him by comparing him to a brute caveman.

IGGY

Age: 17 | MBTI: ESFP

The third oldest. Being the most hyperactive, extroverted and unpredictable, he is a real wild child! There's never a monotonous time whenever he pops in! However, he also has a demented side and often has psychotic episodes where he'll cause rampages and hurt anyone who gets in his way, so Larry and Lemmy have to restrain him by strapping up his straightjacket.

LEMMY

Age: 17 | MBTI: ISFP

Despite his child-like appearance, he is actually the second oldest of the Koopalings, being born after Ludwig and before Iggy. He is calm and mature as he wants to act his age. He also hates being patronised for his short stature and demands to be taken seriously. But he is still interested in the circus and practices all the time to be the best performer in the world!

LUDWIG

Age: 18 | MBTI: INTJ

The oldest Koopaling and the one who'll inherit the throne after King Bowser. He is intelligent, haughty, cunning and cocky. He is also antisocial, a bit of a misanthrope and he hates meeting other people, so he spends a long time shut in his room, playing the piano and writing music compositions. However, in front of Mario and Luigi, he'll act like the leader of the group, which his siblings despise.

when I was drawing her, i kind of pieced together the lore i have for her in my head as i went on, sooo...

Sandy's design to me is probably the most OUT THERE compared to all of the other outsiders girls I've got designs for (and also not finished, sandy is the first! (aside from angela))

I've always envisioned her as a beachy girl, having family out in florida and being a natural blonde. dunno why those pieced together beach girl to me.

whenever i think of sandy, i think of three characters combined: jenny from forrest gump, lily from the book we'll fly away, and sophie from mamma mia.

in my envisionary of absolutely bullshitting, sandy is a girl who lives for the islands and the sea. she's a girl looking for love, and constantly on the search for something. her father is a priest who's constantly away for weeks on end, her mother dead. she lives alone with only greasers and hoods to keep her company in their dingy neighborhood.

people whisper "well of course she's a teenage mom, have you seen her situation? she's just gone downhill since." and it tears at her. she knows what the people think. she can make guesses of what soda would think. she ruins herself over those thoughts.

i just never see a good future for her unfortunately. but like jenny, I'd also imagine she'd way later in the future reconnect with soda. send him love, ask him out to a party, they talk, he realizes how badly she changed, he tries to talk her into going home with him, she... runs away again.

sandy is impulsive, she's what I'd say be a hippie before hippies were even hippies. she's a peace-for-all and love-for-all kind of girl. she's patriotic in the sense of loving the lands, not the people. she doesn't care for people, not anymore at least. she lives for the breeze in her hair, the grass between her toes in fields that reach up to her waist. she's obsessed with sheep and cats, she drinks herbal tea in the mornings.

i do like to imagine that sandy did become an actual hippie once the late 60s really picked up on protesting. and i do also unfortunately believe she left her daughter in the process. her family all despised her, they kept the baby anyways though. sandy gets hooked on drugs, comes back every so often to see her daughter, maybe even takes the girl with her only to have her taken away.

with no daughter and the scared idea of running back to Tulsa with the boy of her teenage dreams, she just leaves. gone, without a trace. sandy probably goes missing. she ends up somewhere, in some place, with people she doesn't know, on a bad high. she should've left with soda honestly

i can't help but imagine the most tragic of endings for that girl :( getting constantly hurt in her life by the men around her, but yet they're the only people she knows and isn't scared of. she's just a really sad girl in my eyes

i do love her so so much though and arghhh she's such a casual favorite of mine.. .

anyways i hope people enjoy poc sandy, she's my lightskinned daughter and i adore her dearly

Jinx

Jinx is often seen as 'too chaotic' or 'too different' so she'd be super understanding towards a s/o who's neurodivergent.

Would create little gadgets for you based on your current hyperfixation!

If you'd prefer less touch, Jinx would find other ways to show affection. Such as, creating drawings of you or sitting next to you quietly, probably fidgeting with a gadget of some sort.

If you did like touch, Jinx would sneak up behind you and poke your waist then laugh at you when you get flustered/surprised.

She would listen to you talk about your hyperfixation for hours on end!

She'd get very ecstatic about your special interests as well. She would try to learn unique facts about it so she can impress you.

Silco

Silco is a very calculating and observant man. If you liked specific textures such as soft materials, he would go out of his way to make sure youre always comfortable. He might change the bedding to a more softer fabric or gift you fluffy clothes.

He would quietly listen to you talk about your special interests. It may seem like he doesn't care, but trust me, he does.

Silco would pay very close attention to what you say. So much so, he would leave little trinkets related to your hyperfixation in your room for you to find.

He would be very gentle and patient with you, making sure he never treats your needs as a burden of some sort.

Caitlyn

Caitlyn would be very sweet and careful!!

She would hold you hands in hers lightly, gentle hugs and play with your hair soothingly.

Would ask for permission everytime before she touches you.

"May I?"

If you ever got overwhelmed, she would quickly take you back to her room by the hand. She would trace idle patterns onto your shoulder and whisper sweet nothings into your ear.

"You're okay, I've got you."

If you weren't big on physical touch, she'd stick to words of affirmation!

Vi

At first, Vi might be a little rough and loud towards you. But as soon as she sees you're uncomfortable, she'd try to tone it down immediately. After all, her loved ones needs are the most important to her.

Would throw hands at anyone who dares to mock you.

Again, if you liked physical touch, prepare yourself to get big bear hugs, sloppy kisses and hair ruffling.

If you weren't into that, she'd show her affection by staying close to you. She's not very good with words, but she'd make an effort. Just for you.

Mel

Mel's the type of girl to show her love through luxurious gift giving. She might buy you jewellery that reminded her of you or gift you paintings of her own.

Mel would even commission designers to make clothing exactly to your liking!

She'd let you rest your head on her lap while she strokes your hair as she admires the view of Piltover.

If you were interested, Mel would teach you how to paint since it might calm you down during stressful moments.

If you weren't, she'd let you watch her paint to cool down. Sometimes she would paint portraits of you or of your special interests.

Jayce

At the start, Jayce might be little confused or clueless. After realising, he'd do tons of research and would ask you very specific questions to get to know you better.

He would be big on words affirmation.

"I'm proud of you."

Ekko

Ekko would love to help you build things related to your special interests or learn more about it.

He would be so patient with you. He'd hold your hand close to his chest if you were overwhelmed and repeatedly tell you it's going to be okay.

Sometimes he'd take you on walks to take your mind off of things.

Viktor

Viktor would understand how it's like to be different since he's disabled.

Would definitely sit down and listen to your rambling about your hyperfixations!

He would be very patient with sensory needs.

He would give affection through words and small gestures rather than loads of touch.

Doom shrugs when he says she's glad she's here now and that she keeps going. It's a gesture made in half-agreement with him, although she doesn't elaborate on what she means by it.

The truth is, she's only here because she kept refusing to die when the Narrative dictated that her time was up... and now she can't die. Or rather, she can't stay dead, not permanently, and not in a way that matters. She is going to essentially live forever past eternity, until all the universes in the multiverse end, and then when that happens, the mangled remains of her soul are going to be forced into the In-Between, where she will remain for the remainer of... whatever happens when time ceases to be. It's something she can't even imagine. Like trying to think of what a new color will look like if that color was a curse.

The additional truth is, there are plenty of days where she doesn't want to keep going, but she has no choice.

She wonders if Russell understands what that's like.

Doom just grins. "Oh, I'd have found a way to make you to hate me, trust me. All drains lead to the ocean, as they say, ehehehe. In this case meaning, it would have happened eventually, ehehehehe."

Oh, weren't those the days, everybody hating her no matter what she did, and so it was easier to intentionally do things to make people hate her. At least then it was by her own design.

"Or are you saying that if I had chased you into the ocean, thus curing your fear of it, you'd have forgiven me? What if there was a kaiju down there? Or sand? You know how scary sand is, Russell," she snickers, changing her voice to impersonate Anakin Skywalker. "It's so... sandy and coarse. Ehehehe."

Russell was already getting the awful feeling that Doom had been through absolute pain and trauma. The brief silence couldn't help but give him that concern.

So he decided that all he could really hope for next was that she was healing from her experience.

"Y-yeah, you, you are," Russell said, "And, and I, I hope you're, you're rec-recovering well from, from that. I, I can only imagine the, the kind of, of exp-experience it, it was."

But he tugged at his own sleeve.

"I'll, I'll take your, your word for that. You don't, you don't need to, to prove it, or anything. I, I believe you," Russell said, "And I'm, I'm glad you're, you're here now and, and, and keep-keeping on going."

But then Russell nodded.

"I, I guess that, that makes sense," Russell said, "After that, that sorta thing, it, it would be hard to, to be af-afraid of, of much else. Heh, m-maybe. Or, or maybe I, I would have tried to, to find some way to, to co-exist with, with you."

I actually much prefer a lot of how studio VOLN is handling Blue Exorcist over A-1, I know not a popular opinion in areas and get the places people say looks off but the vibes and heart is so good? also there is a lot of amazing shots and imo calling Rin "ugly" in it is an exaggeration to me, there's some wonky shots but there's also SO MANY he looks great! I think sometimes people forget that A-1 had equally bad shots and design choices like I think a lot are looking at the older seasons through rose colored glasses personally! not to mention they ruined a lot of scenes and how they changed them/adjusted them in their adaption that to me affected characterization and making some of the cast look almost dumb in a situation the manga version shows was more serious and dire!

ultimately my view has been: I'd rather an adaption feel like the heart is in the right place and the characters feel like themselves vs everything being pretty all the time and would rather deal with a few wonky shots of characters over a bad representation of a story and characters I love! visuals are not the only thing that matters to me ever
