Gunpowder Tim vs poison ivy
I think it's obvious
Baldness is for nerds this is a battle to the death. If you have the same character/pfp on both platforms you have to decide which is the superior.
You have to explain your reasoning in the reblogs too

“there’s only two genders” wrong. there’s nine: jonny d’ville, gunpowder tim, nastya rasputina, drumbot brian, the toy soldier, ashes o’reilly, ivy alexandria, raphaella la cognizi, and marius von raum.

thinking about the period of time between the mechanisms performing DTTM and their deaths actually occurring...
thinking about how the mechanisms know how they die but they might not know when they die or in what order.
thinking about them trying to prevent each other's deaths. none of them wants to be the last to go.
raphaella begs the others not to leave marius alone on the ship. tim refuses to leave ashes's side in the hopes he can stop the accident from happening. brian pilots them around pockets of temporal instability and away from backwater asteroids. marius pleads with ivy not to retire. nobody talks about how they die in front of the toy soldier. they don't want to make it sad.
jonny selfishly seeks out bar fights, hoping this time it will finally be the one, and he won't have to watch his friends disappear one by one until a milllenia has passed since the last time he laughed. even if the others mourn him, he doesn't want to still be alive when the rest of his crew are all gone.
none of them know for sure who dies first, but they all know who they don't want it to be, and they all hope it's themselves instead.

On the assumption that any lost body parts of the mechs still exist after removal and don't, like, disintegrate or something:
Note: since the fictions talk about all brains being rounded up and put to work no matter how small or unusable, this poll does not require that the mechs had to have their brains harvested as a whole for a brain to be counted (aka brains collected by a death from head explosion, for example, still count).
The Toy Soldier and Drumbot Brian are not included for obvious reasons, but the idea of ferrymen looking really hard to try and find their brains after they "die" and being confused is very funny to me.

It’s a thing that people often will subconsciously react to the anniversary of some traumatic event happening to them. For example: becoming more irritable and generally having a worse mood around the time of a loved one’s passing, even if the person was not consciously aware that that anniversary was coming up.
The mechanisms live for a really long time though. I’ve seen someone else suggest that they would eventually cease to remember things from earlier in their lives, or particularly in their mortal lives, as they continued to live through the millenia. And that makes complete sense; their minds weren’t built to store that much information for that long (except Ivy, Brian may also have some increased ability here).
But isn’t that sad? The easiest one to pull on is Tim, obviously, but isn’t it sad that he would forget Bertie. Even though he could forget the traumatic death and even the whole war, knowing that it happened but not necessarily remembering it; they were friends, there must have been good things to remember. And the guilt would be awful. To be guilty to a dead person you do not know anymore.
Point being, for some time during this forgetting process, they would likely experience this irritability, mood swings, uptick in anxiety, etc, that they maybe not notice, and they don’t have the memory or the calendar to tell them why. Because how can it be annual when you aren’t on the planet it occurred on and you’ve spent life times on various celestial bodies, on space stations, on the Aurora in the space between stars, or even in a star.
So what kind of cycle does it occur on? Is it only triggered in other ways? Or does the brain still attempt some kind of regularity? In some poor excuse for “keeping the memory alive.”
I know the answer is, as always, whatever serves the narrative.

Propaganda below!
Gunpowder Tim
Stream Gunpowder Tim vs The Moon Kaiser (the story of how he blew up the moon)
he's immortal. he's gay. he's in a band. he's got eye motifs. he *blew up the moon*. he's british. he's from the future. everybody go listen to gpt vs the moon kaiser rn and you'll understand. ps it was soooo hard for me to pick a favorite image of him PLEASE look him up and look at him
Blowing up the moon not only, y'know, blew up the moon, but was a vital part of his story because he gained? Was given? Had forced upon him? immortality in response to his blowing up the moon (and also nearly himself). The moon is in fact very important to his story. Also, he blew up the moon because his best friend died in a war that took place there. Imagine someone blowing up a moon for you wouldn't that be so nice. I love Tim he's everything to me
HE BLEW UP THE MOON
Also he is so gender
He's incredibly gender and also a cool immortal space pirate
He blew up the moon!
There was a war between the Moon Kaiser and England because the Kaiser threatened to blow up London, and Tim and Bertie (his best friend) joined the army and were sent to the moon. After Bertie died, Tim went on a murderous rampage and killed a not-insignificant amount of the Kaiser's army, but was eventually captured. In the throne room where he was to be executed, he noticed two allies he had known from earlier in the war. Tim had them distract the Kaiser and his (the Kaiser's) soldiers while he pointed the cannon the Kaiser had threatened to blow up London with at the moon and lit the fuse. He got to an escape pod before it blew up, but didn't get the visor closed, and lost his eyes (and died) in the resulting explosion that blew up the moon.
Fandub Eggman
Destroyed a large part of the moon because he was mad at a hedgehog and also Obama I guess

I want to add one fandom for Jason: he writes fanfic for the band The Mechanisms, especially after he comes back.
He was a fan from before but after he comes back (which by using the sliding time scale would be around 2015-16) he relisted to "High Noon Over Camelot" and is reduced to a mess, he also starts to kin Jonny D'vile (the singer, he is an immortal space gunslinger that killed his father and still is projecting is daddy issue millennia later).
He probably wrote sever heart wrenching introspective fic from Mordred pova about his desperate attempt at having his father recognise him, and reaching the point of dispersion where he just kills everyone but his father.
A backstory fic for Jonny, talking about his poor childhood and having his heart taken away by the woman that gave him immortality.
Also a very concerning one that explores Ashes death and his description of how it feels to suffocated on smoke is extremely visceral and has a lot of people very worried.
Just a Mechanisms fan Jason projecting all his issues in this mess of a band. Also it's a pretty small fandom with a lot of dark humour, so he would probably feel just at home with us <3
Jason as those AO3 authors who have the worst tragedies happening to them and yet still continues to pump out his new chapter every week
Some poor, unbeknownst Gothamite: “My favorite fanfic writer hasn’t posted or updated any of their fanfic in like four years. I don’t want to bug them but I’m always hoping for them to come back. I hope their okay :( ”
Jason, in between cutting off right hand mens heads and antagonize black mask, like Really Living It Up: “hey, sorry, guys! I know it’s been forever! I literally died and clawed my way back from zombiehood, but I’m back now! Hope you enjoy this new chapter!”

In Stranger, I think Brian’s voice getting harder to hear with the other voices is meaningful.
I interpret those voices to be other people finding out and disparaging him. I think where Brian (Tsuru) is from robots are lower class and the idea that a robot would marry a human is absurd, but marrying one while lying about your identity is dastardly. But now he is on a different planet and here they do not have sentient robots. Keeping it a secret is to protect his husband so he can be as innocent as possible should they be found out and prosecuted (he’s still thinking in terms of where he used to live). A monster is semi-literal because the husband has not seen an android before and he is astonished. But people fear what they don’t know, and he becomes angry at Brian (Tsuru) for lying.
As more voices are added more people are finding out about what he did, yet failing to actually listen to him. His husband doesn’t even listen.
I don’t think the husband went and told everyone, but that he was mad and either someone found out by spying or he told one person and that person spread it and those people spread it, etc.

I don't see enough talk about involving Jordan Kennedy in those "The Mechanisms are Jon's college band" AUs. Like including Basira and Nicola is mwah immaculate perfect but please don't forget about my man Jordan. It can have both hilarity and tragic irony! Picture Gunpowder Tim as a poor nervous traumatized bug exterminator. Now also picture Jordan having written Tim's backstory with Jon in college only for everything (the tunnels, Jon(ny) being more than he appeared and kinda making Jordan/Tim immortal, etc) to parallel horrifically during season five. Just giving Jordan that kinda background with Jon I just. Idk I've been thinking about it so much.

[ID:
Image One: a photo of Jonny Sims and Tim Ledsam in costume as Jonny d’Ville and Gunpowder Tim of the Mechanisms, pointing handguns at each other while outside. Tim is holding a gun with a longer wider barrel and has his non-dominant hand on the forearm (part under the barrel). Jonny is holding a more typical handgun with a single hand and his shoulders unsquared (his torso is not facing where he is pointing the gun).
Image Two: a screencap of tags reading “#hes lived long enough to learn techniques we could never dream of #hes on another level”
End ID]
ALRIGHT [caps reads: alright], so, Tim is actually holding his gun here better than Jonny is. You should be supporting your handgun with two hands (as long as you have two functional hands). Jonny’s shoulders aren’t square; obviously, if they were really trying to shoot each other, aiming wouldn’t be too difficult because they are so close, but Jonny here is very much being *dramatic,* which is not surprising. Now, while Tim’s gun is a handgun, yes, the length of it gives plenty of room to hold it the way he is. And, more importantly, IMO, he is holding it with two hands! Which also makes sense, because he is the gunner. His gun looks to me to be of a higher caliber, which would give it greater recoil and would make holding it the way he is make more sense because of the longer barrel. It has the length, he might as well use it to support it as best as he can!
This was how I felt upon seeing this originally, but I checked with my dad, who knows more about guns than I do, and he agreed. He was however, bothered that Tim’s finger is on the trigger, and even after explaining that these *must* be fake guns, he still didn’t like it, because of real life gun safety logic (which is still a good point, though I’m not going to get into it here).
So TL;DR: if anyone is holding a gun incorrectly in this photo, it is Jonny, not Tim.

The more I think about how a human, modern au Toy Soldier wouldn't work the more obsessed I get with TRYING to make it work and frankly there's only a few more loops in this self dooming cycle before I make a college au for all of them.
-
Okay I saved this post to my drafts and then immediately had more thoughts on this hypothetical college au. All the mechs should be as close to their canon events/back stories as possible to avoid having wildly different personalities (obviously there will still be very differing personalities due to not being immortal space pirates, but this would be easiest). It would be a extremely sketchy comedy of errors.
Obviously this takes place in community college because community colleges are just like that™
Put under the cut because it got a bit long.
Jonny:
Still killed his dad and the entirety of the casino.
Using the money he got from the casino and Jack to fund his way through a college hours away from his hometown.
Is constantly paranoid over someone coming after him for his murders or finding out that his highschool diploma is a forgery (he didn't finish his last two years because of said murders).
Ashes:
Being put through college by the Lucky Sevens, and still does tracking work for them despite only being able to physically visit their turf over break.
Smooth Mickey has only just started working with the Aces in Ashes' freshman year.
It is going to be a WILD senior year when Ashes breaks open Mickey's scheme.
Banned from the card games club.
Tim:
Transfer student from London that only entered college in the first place to dodge the draft. He never expected to enter college in the first place and is therefore woefully unprepared.
Wildly protective over Bertie, who transferred with him and is the reason he dodged the draft in the first place.
Not as murderous as the canon Tim, but certainly getting there over immigration and transfer laws in the US.
Still has the first name of Gunpowder.
It is gonna be a WILD senior year when he and Bertie get caught up in the Lucky Sevens debacle and Bertie dies.
Raphaella:
Nobody knows what major she's taking, because by all intents and purposes it appears to be all of them.
She's breaking into the chem lab and making lsd after hours to fund her way through college.
Has cute little wings on her backpack that she made herself, but in reality they're just hidden storage compartments that she's been using to steal lab equipment.
Ivy:
Nothing about her is different except for the fact her autism is diagnosed this time.
She works at the community library and the college library. She started her major in library sciences, only to discover that she already knew more about it than her professors, so now she's an English lit major.
Marius:
Also got in on forged documents, but his are significantly shittier than Jonny's or Ashes' because he didn't have the money to pay someone for it. Still nobody comments on the birth certificate with "Byron" covered over with off-color white-out and replaced with "Marius.
He also completely erased the gender category while he was at it. Again, nobody who actually looks at these documents is paid enough to care.
Still missing an arm and he has broken up AND started fights by hitting people with his prosthetic.
Getting his doctorate in computer science, but usually does not tell people exactly what he's majoring in when he tells people he's going to be a doctor.
Nastya:
Fleeing a Russian rebellion and very obviously comes from wealth.
Her backstory is the same, just without the robots. Her history of wealth and terrible attempts at hiding her accent are painfully obvious to everyone she interacts with.
Double majoring in engineering and computer science. Unintentionally breaks Marius' scheme open when she asks to copy his notes when she missed a day for a class they share (she would have broken it faster if she knew what he was doing).
Was assigned as Raphaella's roommate and she gets free estrogen in exchange for ignoring everything else that's going on.
Got dragged into the friend group by Jonny after he came over one day to hang out with Raphaella and they bonded over disabling circulatory issues.
Brian:
On the run from the religious cult he grew up in, which he was kicked out of because he got internet access and started learning about reality.
Still has a hard time believing most people he'll talk to will accept basic facts like "the Earth is a sphere"
Did not have to forge papers to get in, but he would later get recommended to a good forger by Jonny and get some restraining orders out of it.
Ambulatory wheelchair user (because it makes me happy) with an extreme case of moral ocd
The Toy Soldier:
Holy shit this bitch had a bad childhood
In a dissociative state a good 90% of the time and has huge sensory issues with the feeling of its own flesh
Goes by "TS" and adamantly refuses to tell anybody why.
Being put through college by their wealthy adoptive mother. Definitely lied about the college being prestigious and doesn't want to examine exactly why it did that or why it felt so soul-crushingly important to get out of the country.
Was adopted by the widow after her husband died at war. Was basically treated as one family member swapped for another and was expected to grow up in his image and to be proper.
Walking on eggshells 24/7. Orders might as well still be a physical necessity to it for how much of a compulsion they are. Will jump to do anything to appease the people around it if they show any indication of being upset.
Tim becomes its first friend because him and Bertie are the only other transfer students from London. It rather likes talking about guns with him and giving away all its care packages to him so it doesn't dwell on why they make it so uncomfortable.
Starts off majoring in military studies over the ages, but will switch to general music studies after meeting the Angel.
Spoiler alert: it will still kill the Angel after she gets into a relationship with someone else, but thankfully this just makes a wild junior year instead of adding to the already wild senior year.
Obviously they're all still in a band together. And they're the most dysfunctional friend group this poor college has ever seen.
