So I finally watched the Carmen Sandiego reboot all the way through and actually paid attention so ofc I needed to make an oc for the funky little geography show.

Valentin Uspensky is a musician and a sound tech originally from Moscow, Russia. He is very laid back, often content to stay home making music unless his job calls. Considering his profession, he ironically is very quiet, mostly communicating in grunts and gestures.

He is a skilled theif, and was recruited into Vile after pulling off an elaborate heist during a concert. He was in Carmen's class and did mostly well in Dr Bellum's and Prof. Maelstrom's classes, but graduated with the lowest score needed. He gets along well with all his classmates, and can often be seen having long, nonverbal conversations with Mime Bomb that make little sense to anyone watching them. Because of this, no one realises the two are dating.

He designed his costume himself, which is why it's just a his dysphoria hoodie and an led mask that he thought looked cool. His hoodie hides all his gadgets and amps.

I'm writing a fic for him but I was just hella proud of the drawings I did :]

Hey I don’t mean this in a “you can’t ignore the lore !!! That’s canon” kind of way but I’m like genuinely curious to hear why you don’t like the canon mid fight masses info . I’m always interested to hear what other think . You don’t have to of course !

heyo I'm just gonna pretend that this hasn't been sitting in my inbox for literal months and that I'm not procrastinating on something very important right now

basically, what I don't like about the canon MFM lore is that it's very...codependent.

I don't really like any piece of media that revolves around two people in an isolated relationship, especially not when they're as volatile, violent, and frankly unhealthy as canon Ruv and Sarvente. It feels like a recipe for toxicity and mutual destruction, and as someone who was in a relationship like that, it's not my cup of tea. Especially with the added factor of "if he leaves, they both die."

And then for Jules to be like "Sarvente is actually the queen of all demons" just felt kind of. Urgh. Mary-Sue-ish, to be frank.

It's cool if these are all things that make it more enjoyable for you!!! Everyone enjoys different kinds of media, and everyone enjoys it differently. So I'm not saying "it's bad" or "it's cringe" or anything like that. I'm saying "I don't like it, and these are the things I don't like about it." If those are the things you like about it, go fucking nuts. Cringe culture is dead baybee. Like what makes you happy. I'm into Homestuck ffs.

But also, as someone who got a little too wise a little too young: if you're ever in a relationship that you can in any way compare to theirs, R U N. I appreciate media with fucked-up relationships. I enjoy it myself sometimes (Wuthering Heights, anyone??) But what's crucial for the consumption of media like that is KNOWING that the relationship is fucked up.

TL;DR - I don't like the canon lore because it's codependent as fuck, and that personally makes me uncomfortable
