Can you educate me on license plates? Sexless style?
Sorry for putting this off for so long, I got reaaallly busy but I'll go ahead and break down most what I know about license plates.
First and foremost we need to establish a few types of license plates, that being US, European, and then pretty much everything else. I group US and Europe into their own groups because those two all follow the same format, albeit with some variations. In addition to this, some countries and US states have front plates in addition to back plates, which will be relevant in the future.
Since I have a lot of European followers I'm sure you guys already know that European license plate standards are white with a blue strip and then 2 initials to represent the country in question. There is some variance on this however.
Here is a Denmark license plate showing the format. (ignore the red border, thats part of the image, not the plate)
Great Britain is an exception to this, as it has a yellow backplate and white frontplate.
Similarly to this, Netherlands has a yellow backplate, but it also has a yellow front plate as well.
This is the only country to have yellow on both front and back plates to my knowledge, so it is a telltale sign that the car is from Netherlands or that you're currently there. I have seen yellow license plates in Belgium before but I don't know if that's the standard there.
On to the next thing, we have (old) portugal backplates that have a yellow strip in addition to their blue strip.
This is the old design but is still present on many vehicles in the country.
France has something similar, but it is two blue strips on them like so:
Italy also has this as well as on front plates
Mexico is most distinct for their shorter, stubbier front plates compared to most others. It might be hard to tell, but here's a comparison of Mexico license plates with United States license plates
Interestingly enough, there's a lot of similarities between three different South American license plates in that they all have the blue strip at the top. I don't know why this is the case because I'm not very learned on its history. It makes sense for EU license plates to be the same, but I'm not sure why these are the same or why Chile, Peru, Bolivia don't follow the same format.
In addition to this, it's worth noting that Colombia's license plates are yellow as well, and I believe the only country in South America to have yellow? but I could be entirely wrong, my knowledge is limited to whatever has google streetview coverage.
For a change of pace, in Bhutan they have very distinct red license plates like this one
Fun fact about bhutan: there is a lot of phallic imagery present on many houses
And as a side note, Israel has yellow plates as well
Laos has yellow plates too, not many countries in Southeast Asia have yellow license plates to my knowledge besides Japan (though only some of them are yellow)
I could go over areas like Russia and Ukraine but they are just white license plates and aren't that remarkable. Before I hit the image limit I want to cover US license plates as they're quite distinct, starting with the only yellow plates, Alaska and New Mexico.
Bear in mind that plate designs have changed countless times and I could have an entirely separate post showcasing some of the most striking changes I've seen. For comparison, here are more from New Mexico
Alaska has a variant with a kodiak bear on it
New York is more orangeish
This state loves to move in circles and features Arches National Park
Wyoming is the most stereotypical yeehaw cowboy plate
Kentucky has nothing.
Arizona features everything that made me fall in love with the state. The mountains, the desert, the cacti, the sunrise, it's perfect.
Bonus round: Canada. NT has a polar bear
Nunavut has a polar bear
I'm out of images but there's plenty of other variants you can see on Geohints, two separate sections for most of the world as well as a separate section for just US plates
I feel like there's more I could cover but with the image limit it's a little difficult, but some other details I can say is that Manitoba for some reason has Hebrew on their license plates, Czechia license plates' first 3 digits represent the region they were manufactured in, a lot of countries like Peru and Bolivia have their flag on the license plate as well.
I hope you learned something about license plates

Braving the Elements season 3
The new season of the podcast Braving the Elements concerning the book 3 of the Avatar the Last Airbender started, predictably with the appearance of Mike and Bryan. They talked a little about how busy they are with “something” and a bit more about book 3 “Fire”. There was a lot of mutual admiration and general excitement, but we got some information as well.
- It’s been 20 years, and they don’t remember every detail of their thought process
- they remember some stuff, and are always happy to talk about their inspirations. Like Bryan talking about his trip to Iceland, his admiration for its natural beauty made by volcanic activity, and how Iceland photos became Fire Nation landscapes.
- or Mike telling about his trip to Bhutan and his awe at the Tiger’s Nest temple that became an inspiration for the Western Air Temple.
- they talked about how Ozai’s face reveal – that he is just a regular guy who looks like older Zuko whole we don’t see until Zuko meets him face to face – was initially thought to mean one thing, then it started to mean a slightly different thing, and it is fine.
- Dante was super excited to meet Mark Hamill when recording voices for Zuko and Ozai. (who wouldn’t)
- they talked about inspiration for the lion turtle they found in Korea, and that it really was meant to me there in the story from the beginning, and they tried to hide it while giving away glimpses.
- 99.9% of Air Nomads were airbenders. Because that’s how they invented that world, that’s why.
- Aang was never going to kill Ozai. Never ever. He is a monk and has monk ethics no matter what everyone was telling him.
- animating the scene where Aang and Ozai’s souls are fighting for the dominance during the energybending moment was rather challenging.
- In Bryan’s mind, Iroh is ten years older than Ozai. It is not a confirmed canon, more like idea. Iroh looks much older because of the life he lived, while Ozai has an amazing skincare routine.
- they don’t know any other Fire lords’ names. But you know, those names appear and will appear in various materials – novels, RPG, etc.
- Mike and Bryan love canon relationships – surprise!
- Dante admitted that while he ships Zutara, he started vibing with Zuko/Mai’s relationship as well as he was actually watching the show. Which is fine, and only serves to show his general attitude to shipping: it is a fun activity that keeps the interest going and in the long term helps him to earn money.
- Yes, Dante, there are good people in the Fire Nation, as you’ve been saying all the previous episodes. This time everyone agreed, since we are finally arriving to the Fire Nation.
- I probably forgot something, but you may listen to it – or, for the first time – also watch it on the Avatar the last Airbender official Youtube channel. At first I thought why? And then after I listened to the podcast I couldn’t remember what said Bryan and what said Mike. Not to imply that they are the same – they are very much not- but I have a trouble distinguishing voices I don’t know well. So I watched a bit – and really liked it. Whoever edited the video did a great job of adding some visual jokes and visual illustrations to whatever Janet, Dante, Mike and Bryan were saying. So we can see how Bryan’s photos of Iceland became the Fire Nation, and how Tiger’s Nest looks like.
And it is so easy to remember who was saying what! Mike is the one who looks like Aang, Bryan is the one who looks like Zuko, Dante is the one who sounds like Zuko. And occasionally talks as if he is Zuko.

So what are the plans for next week? Or are we taking things as they come???
I'm going back to London Monday night (I'm currently home in Chicago), then I have a little more than a week in London before swapping flats with a couple in Florence! It's very The Holiday. They live in a very cool neighborhood so looking forward to visiting museums but also just hanging around in cafes.
Then I've got an awkward like 2.5 week period before I have to be back in London in the third week of June, then my family arrive early July for Wimbledon, then we all fly out to Greece for my best childhood friend's wedding (her fiance is Greek), then three weeks later we're all off the Olympics! My mom will be hanging around with me in between (maybe London, maybe elsewhere, tbc).
And then late Aug-mid Sep I'll be in northern India, Nepal, and then two weeks in Bhutan. It's surprisingly busy!

A Blend of Serenity and Adventure: Iguazu Falls and Bhutan
Down in South America, there's this awesome bunch of waterfalls called Iguazu Falls. It's cool, and once you see it, you won't forget how amazing it is. It's in both Argentina and Brazil, showing off nature's incredible power and beauty. If you're up for a fun adventure, choosing an Iguazu tour package is like being in a real adventure movie. You get to explore, feel all excited, and enjoy the calm in a super pretty rainforest.
Choosing Your Adventure
How Many Days? - If you have less time, go for 2-3 days. If you want a big adventure, go for 5-7 days!
Where to Stay? - Stay close to the waterfalls! It's cooler that way. You can see them whenever you want!
Fun Stuff to Do! - Get a guide who knows everything! They'll show you the best places. Look for boat rides, jungle walks, and bird watching.
Getting Around? - You need a good ride. Some Iguazu tour packages include rides everywhere, even from the airport.
Meet New Friends! - Don't just see waterfalls. Meet people and try their food. It's fun and makes the adventure better!
Here's a simple plan for a 5-day adventure:
Day 1: Welcome to the Tour!
Get to your hotel and meet your guide.
Have dinner and meet your new friends.
Day 2: Waterfall Day in Argentina!
Spend the whole day viewing different beautiful waterfalls in Argentina.
Walk on cool paths and maybe go on a boat ride near the waterfalls.
Day 3: Waterfall Day in Brazil!
Go to Brazil to see more waterfalls from a different side.
Take it easy in the afternoon or do something fun!
Day 4: Adventure in the Jungle!
Go on a jungle walk and embrace the beauty of nature’s plants and animals.
At night, see a show and eat yummy food.
Day 5: Farewell!
Engage in some fun nearby activities in the morning.
Say goodbye to the falls and bid your farewell until next time.
Many sites and travel agencies offer great Iguazu tour packages. One must do extensive research and choose the most suitable option. You can see waterfalls, explore the jungle, and have the best time. So, get ready, pack your stuff, and let's go have a super cool adventure together!
In this same article, let us also talk about a few of the best Bhutan tour packages.
Bhutan is a cool place hiding in big mountains. People call it the Land of the Thunder Dragon, where nature, culture, and joy hang out. Bhutan tour packages are like special tickets for you to have a fun trip, checking out colorful traditions, amazing views, and a different way of living.
Bhutanese Lifestyle: In Bhutan, people like their culture and pretty places. On the tour, you'll see cool festivals, and old castles, and meet friendly locals who specially do things.
Thimphu: Start your adventure in Thimphu, the main city. Check out the cool Tashichho Dzong castle and the busy markets, showing what Bhutan is all about.
Paro and the Tiger's Nest: Paro is a mesmerizing place. Don't miss the hike to the Tiger's Nest Monastery—it's a magical place on a high rock that you must most definitely visit.
Punakha and Dochula Pass: We must go and visit Punakha, an old capital, and see the Punakha Dzong castle. Also, visit the Dochula Pass for super pretty views of big mountains and special 108 shortens.
Nature's Miracle: Bhutan's nature is super pretty and Bhutan tour packages make it a point to highlight the same. Tours take you to cool places like Phobjikha Valley to see special birds and Haa Valley, a quiet place surrounded by big mountains. If you love nature, Bhutan has lots of cool plants and animals.
Taste Of Bhutan: Bhutan is known for its local food which is delicious to taste. Ema Datshi which is a cheese and chili stew and momos which is otherwise known as dumplings are delicious and locally made yummy food.

Note
At one point after the TMI series, we were told that some institutes (like Cornwall institute) were abandoned because there aren't enough Shadowhunters to look after them. But, we also see that there are a lot of Shadowhunters in Alicante, there are a lot of Centurions (if Centurions can become inquisitors then why not head of an institute) and somehow not even one volunteers to be in those abandoned institutes or no one pick some Shadowhunters from Alicante to be heads of those abandoned institutes. What do Shadowhunters living in Idris/Alicante even do? Some of them run businesses I guess (like Diana) but the rest of them? How many Shadowhunter survived the Dark War? Head of an institute is quite a powerful position, right (I know that Heads of smaller institutes are slightly less influential but still it's still some kind of position of power)? How come no one from the cohort gang seizes the opportunity to become Heads of these abandoned institutes?
It's a good point. There has always been too much vagueness around their numbers. At no point there is any specifics on how many Shadowhunters there actually are in the world. What are their numbers in any specific time period like in the early 1900s, in the 2000s after the Uprising and previous to it, or even in the 2010s? (Do they have a social system where every known Shadowhunter is listed?)
There is this vague sense of the amount being somewhat little, that there are fewer and fewer Shadowhunters, and especially after Dark War they turn to look for potential Ascendants because so many died during battles. The Academy fell in disrepair because it was left abandoned. Centurions only just now have made a return. And yet there is no sense of how many of Shadowhunters remain or where. Are there Shadowhunters in Liechtenstein? Bhutan? Ghana? Uruguay? Vietnam? Any country that is not English-speaking, a superpower, or a better-known European country? If not, why?
Who were the Shadowhunters who rebuild the Gard? Where did they acquire the know-how and do-how to build? Who keeps their city clean? There was a bakery in Alicante--where do they get the supplies for the food? How are they self-sustaining without farming or any means of production in Idris that is pretty isolated from it's bordering countries? Who makes the gear? What is the gear material and who prepares it? Why basically the only thing we know of Idrisian Shadowhunter culture is that they get to drink wine at age 16 or something? How are they so indulged in the mundane world and culture but apparently are so secluded from it? Endless barrage of questions, really.
When it comes to the Cohort, it's also pretty vague how they even rose to power. The overarching story pretty much skips those parts and when we return to the matter at hand, the Cohort is already rising in numbers and gaining support without the writing ever making the case why. There is barely any justification other than "faeries bad" and it is what it is because the story needs it to be. Again we circle back to the one thing that is mostly discussed when it comes to this series: terrible lack of world-building.
