YET ANOTHER HEADCANON.

This time for Bos

I just think that would be cute and cool but also that would be pretty useful I think.

Also been wanting to draw nesting guide since the start of the season.

Hi!! Abyss crew love time. I just spotted something GREAT, and now own a new hc. Anyways.

Look! At! This!!!! They all have a Gem (yeah I know it's probably darkstone but still. I'm calling them gems)!!! Of course, this can be interpreted in a few ways, but as the person I am I can only see it in one way: acknowledgement that you're part of the crew- part of the family. They deserve that!!!

Anyways. Since Boatswain has the most gems, I think that they're the ones who make them. That headcannon kinda fell down to "they are longtime friends with Commodore, who trusts their judgement with distribution of the gems and safekeeping of loot" because why not!! And! They could also be the first mate of the crew! Among other things!!!

And of fucking course this means I'm finding a nice spot for my own skykid to wear a gem lmao. (I say, as I modify how her wristband looks like)

Anyone notice something strange with the Bumbling Boatswain?

I'll give you a moment...

There's actually 2 things wrong with them! If you compare the Boatswain (far right, acorn hat) to the Ceasing Commodore (tallest spirit), you'll see that the Boatswain's chest piece thingy is missing. Additionally, look at the shoes! Unlike the other spirits with similar shoes (Guide, far left, and Commodore) they actually have modelled shoes this time. To put it another way, the Guide and Commodore's shoes are textures and are "painted" onto their models. The Boatswain's shoes are actual separate models, similar to the shoes player characters can wear.

"Maybe the boatswain always looked like that..." is what I originally thought while seeing this, but nope!

(Sorry for long Boatswain) Image above is pulled from the Sky wiki. They got new kicks but bumbled so hard they forgot their chest piece...

... Also, has anyone else noticed the Boatswain is like, curiously absent from the cutscenes featuring the other Abyss spirits? I can't remember if I saw them during the first cutscene where the game shows you where they are in the Aviary village, but in the later cutscenes where the Abyss spirits are in the concert hall, I remember not seeing them in the audience. What's happening??

Sky Spirit Headcanons - 1

⚓ Season of Abyss 🌊

Technically speaking, these guys are the reason why the story progressed. They unknowingly crossed paths with "Paddle", Kimako and Ingo, where, how and when I'll edit it in later, but these guys deserve the first cameo in the story.

Group-related Headcanons

Names and Titles in order from Oldest to Youngest: Ceasing Commodore Sebastian (Seth) Aranami, Anxious Angler Spiro (Formerly Angel), Cackling Cannoneer Catherine (Carie), Bumbling Boatswain Ishmael (Isiah) Jagedo, Abyss Walker Hailstorm (Hail) Aranami

All of them live on the Fujiah, which Seth... TOTALLY bought and did NOT steal at all from Privateers (which is basically the beta ship they had but a wee bit bigger)

They are both experienced pirates who have no qualms about taking a life and absolute children who share a total of 6 brain-cells that gush over a sleeping crab

They all get together to sing sea shanties every week or when they’re sailing for fun

They also spar with each other to make sure that no one falls behind them in combat (Seth oversees this, but Carie can take over for him when he’s out)

They don’t really obey the law, only abide it if it suits their interests

Spiro and Carie are lovers, you may now applaud

Other than Lumin (Torian Language), they all speak Eikula (The Hybrid Language Luxi and Noxi used after the Dual Disaster)

Character-specific Headcanons

The Eldest Member, being 63 years old

Is either referred to by Captain, Seth, both or just Commodore

Served in the Navy in his past life, so his sea experience stuck with him

Looks like they could kill you, will actually do so if deserved

The father of Hail via adoption, though you’d be wise not to bring that part up around him…

Took in the others as his crewmates and found family

Is also fluent in: Japanese

Favorite Sea Shanty: The Last Shanty

The undisputed Arm Wrestling Champion in the Depth Walkers

Would probably get in a fist fight with the krill cat if it attacked him (it knows this and it does not want those hands.)

As a matter of fact, is the strongest one in the crew in terms of raw strength, with Spiro following behind

Has a heart of gold, even if it doesn’t look like it

He loves his crew! Hail, Spiro, Carie and.. Checks smeared writing on his hand … Izumi.

Very good at braiding hair

Likes to stroke his beard when he feels mischievous

Likes spicy food a lot more than the rest of the crew

Is very careful when playing instruments in fear that he might break them one day

Has the most treasures out of the crew, Carie is close behind him

Takes over for/accompanies Hail in Guide Meetings

Mastered Earth Magic, but uses it carefully

He has his sword back, cry about it TCG

Said sword is called the Shardbreaker after he somehow managed to shatter a Red Shard with it

He never needed a shield and he still doesn’t need one

Don’t let his age fool you, he is DURABLE-

Special Attack: Quake. One slam of the Shardbreaker and at full power, it can cause rocks to spring out of the ground. It’s even been known to injure Krill if timed right.!

Second youngest, being 19 years old

Which makes no sense, considering he’s the first mate AND the Boatswain

Looks like a cinnamon roll, could actually kill you (we’ll get to why later on in the story)

Oddly Carie’s height

Favorite Sea Shanty: Leave her, Johnny

Is given many embarrassing names like “Fumble-it Fred”, “Builder Boy”, and “Hammer Head”, just to name a few

Is also fluent in: German

Gained a perfectionist mindset due to being constantly made fun of…

… which makes him angry…

… and because of that, he messes up a lot, creating a painful cycle

Sympathizes with “Paddle” oddly

Has a bag of food, maps and notes in his room

When asked why, he always answers, “Just in case things go south”. No one knows what he means by this statement.

Gets into fights with Spiro and Carie the most. It’s always Seth who stops him from doing bird-knows-what

Both does and doesn’t sympathize with Hail for reasons he refuses to elaborate

Always is the main subject to Caries’s “games”

Until Paddle came along, but even then…

Despite everyone fearing Paddle, he finds him cool

His music sheet is based on a treasure chest music box he made when he was 9

Slightly underweight, probably because he can easily get focused on repairs and building that he forgets to eat

Will also sleep on the deck if he will not bother with going to his room (Seth has to carry him when he’s asleep..)

He can play the violin very well!

Sometimes vanishes off to play the ukulele since he does NOT want Carie to find his violin (she’ll most likely break it on purpose-)

No one really knows his past, but he snuck into Seth’s boat at 7

Tries too hard to get either a girl, friends or both

His beard is fake if you didn’t figure it out already

He also has a wig but he stopped wearing it when it got itchy

He’s not bald or anything, but his hair gets nappy from the seawater

Also, he has a weird knife that he hides from the crew..

Can understand Tenebrin, but not speak it. At least, not well.

Wields Psychic magic and something else the crew can’t explain yet, but surprisingly is good at Karate. Like.. scarily good.

He does telekinetically use his hammer as a weapon. It’s surprisingly effective.!

Special Attack: Discord. Can disrupt Synchrony and even disable Magic use from a blast of Psychic energy.

Second oldest at 27 years old

Tried to pass on as a girl, then went on to be Genderfluid before being comfortable with his masculinity and settling on being a Demiboy

Can either look like a cinnamon roll or like he can kill you, but if he’s one or the other is entirely up to him

The reason why is due to his very… concerning past

Joined at the age of 15, half a year after Isiah was taken in

Favorite Sea Shanty: Wellerman

Is also fluent in: Finnish

Has the ability of Truthsight, which allows to see a beings nature (like, their intent)

Surprisingly muscular, even when he joined the crew

Has some weights in his room that he lets the crew borrow at times

Is surprisingly a really good cook!

The name Angel was given to him by Seth, though a while after Paddle vanished for some reason, he changed it to Spiro

The reason why is because he wanted to be a breath of fresh air for the others, so that they can all grow from their pasts together

HATES horror movies due to how easily it makes him jump

Had a tendency to overthink things, thus creating their uneasy appearance

Although this, and many other things, has been resolved, he still can get easily anxious

Favorite fish to catch and cook: Whitewater Cod, especially in a stew!

Has an uncommon ability where he’s able to go “Primal” due to a long period of uncontrollable hostility and forced pacifism

They learned to use it for the better, and considers himself the bear of the crew as a half-joke

The reason why it’s a half-joke is that they do tend to act like a bear at times

Can be a very passionate singer if given the chance

Hid the fact he could use Holy Magic until a certain point

Very skilled combatant, but the Seth didn’t teach him anything…

More of a hand-to-hand fighter, but can create a Kanabou when needed

Special Attack: Prayer. Can summon pillars of light from the ground. More than 5 will require him to recite a prayer, hence the name.

The youngest (excluding Paddle), being 15 years old

The most moral of the group oddly

She is a Sinnamon Roll

She’s ace. Not just because of her age, but also because she wants None of That ™️ in general

She’s a Half-Braken! Her lower arms, lower legs, head, and tail were caused by the blood moon

Was taken in by Seth when she was 4, a year after Carie joined

Likes getting head scratches

Is also fluent in: Korean, Tenebrin

Is the fastest member on board

Was extremely unstable when younger, Oak (Assembly Guide) had to help her in keeping her urges in check

Stabilized at 13, but that was because of a Stabilization Potion the crew luckily got their hands on

Can get easily irritated when sand gets in the space between her scales. A bath or a quick dip into the reef easily fixes this, though.

Like all Halflings, she can regain some light from contact with other beings of light

She still consumes light despite this

Likes dozing in the sunlight when she has nothing to do

Sleeps in Seth’s room, she has a little corner for herself complete with a beanbag chair

Is solely a Hand-to-Hand fighter until they find a suitable weapon for her

Favorite Sea Shanty: Santiana

Eats more than the others due to her Braken side

Thumps her tail on the ground when she’s tense

Can’t go a month not consuming light without starting to get aggressive

Isn’t the only darkened being on the ship, but she doesn’t tell anyone about this

Is hesitant to growl, but not to purr

In charge of the Medical Bay, and also gives out commands when given the okay

Will always chuckle when someone mentions Davy Jones Locker

Has horns, but you can rarely see them due to her hair

Learned Storm and Water Magic, mostly since Dark Magic didn’t interest her

Special Attack: Storm Claw. You can pretty much guess what this attack is.

The Middle Child, being 25 years old

Got her laugh from Seth

Looks like they could kill you, is actually a cinnamon roll

Star-Marked! Bears the Mark of the Moonlit Hunter, colored purple

Said Star Mark is Tier 3, the highest tier obtainable

Hates it when people say she got her skills from luck and her Star Mark SO DAMN MUCH-

Often keeps notebooks, either for learning purposes or for fun

Is also fluent in: Spanish, Tenebrin

Favorite Sea Shanty: Drunken Sailor

Do not bring up the Dark Leviathan to her, she STILL has the nightmares from that

She was already a skilled shooter before joining the crew, to everyone’s (Isaiah’s) surprise

Mask got cracked from a stray shot, took her right eye a WHILE to recover

Her harpoon gun is only for beasts, she has a custom make gun for bandits and other people

Which can recharge from her Aura alone! Pretty cool, huh?!

Cares about the others, but used to have no idea how to express that.. she’s a lot better, don’t worry

Joined a month after Spiro at 13 years old from a dare

Has thalassophobia, but is more afraid of the things that dwell below

Is a lot more smarter and kind than she lets on

Her room, despite what she says, is very tidy

Has a ton of embarrassing moments she tries to cover up with tall tales… unfortunately the crew always point out her blunders

Likes shiny things since reminds her of her past

Speaking of, it’s rumored she has a brother, but she refuses to say anything about it

Can do a convincing Scottish accent, but most of the time, finds herself going off in Spanish instead

Earned the Flame’s trust and became a Flame-Wielder, primarily a Pyromancer (Which works in her favor since she learned Fire Magic)

Special Move: Berserker. Greatly boosts her power, but is a lot easier to make her angry

So why did these take so long?

I have some additional notes I'm still working on and I realized that I'm past tumblr post's image limit if I were to include them, so going to divide it up into multiple posts.

I got sidetracked into figuring out how to make my own personal fonts for notes, comics, and whatever else I may make on ibis paint x.^^" (I would share the fonts for free to use completely... but way I have it set up currently... The fonts had to be divided into two parts for each because the website I made the fonts on had a character limit. So until I figure out a way to combine them no... but for now it works for my personal needs.)

Headcannons list for Cackling Cannoneer (and also the Abyss crew in general cause I got overboard) specifically so far because I just thought of a really stupid but funny one

Cut because the list Is Very Long And You Should Be Intimidated Because I Have More

I like to call him Thane (or Thaen)

Scottish, has an accent that gets worse the more emotional/distressed he is

nicknames everyone he likes (e.g. Abyss guide (Abby) as "Little Kitten" or Anxious Angler (Fern) as "Songbird")

Has about 5 different guns but only keeps 2 of them on hand at all times (2 different harpoon guns, one that we see in the memory that's basically a sniper and one for fishing (aka has a rope attached to harpoon), 2 flintlock pistols as backup, and another flintlock as a backup to the backups)

Has a knife on him at all times, even while asleep (so do the rest of the crew. Yes even Abby)

Ever since he nearly drowned and got eaten by the beast, he has a slight (lie) fear of deep water

Abby saved him from the beast before because she conveniently had a lighter on her when she found his boat and dived down to fetch him, freeing the manta with it

Has very small acid scars on his legs from lying down in beast stomach acid for a bit

Is the reason why a tower in Treasure Reef is missing a lot of it's structure (had too much fun with the ship cannons)

Assigned as the weapons man for the ship, looking out for threats. Otherwise he's on land watch because that doubles as looking for threats (aka spends his time in the nest of the ship)

Has never met his biological father, instead considers the Ceasing Commodore (or Alemez, as I call him) to be his dad. His mom is alive and he visits her whenever the crew comes back from an expedition

The ship IS a pirate ship, but they're licensed. They scavenge for resources, and find stuff that can be reused. They are also sometimes hired by merchants to protect them from Actual pirates

May seem self absorbed and uncaring, but that's because you haven't got him to open up yet

You don't want to hurt a crew member while he's around. You're gonna have a bad time running away or defending yourself from a very rageful Thane

Tends to play up his stories for the sake of other's entertainment

Strong Sibling Vibes with most of the crew (he would absolutely "increase gravity" on Abby)

Doesn't get seasick easily, but it does happen from time to time

Fucking hates snow. And ice. What is this slippery cold floor why is it a thing (as an extension he avoids Valley at all costs)

Don't let him go to somewhere cold, he's gonna get a fever Immediately

what with the theory that TGC times popular TS visits when people will be more likely to be forced into buying candle packs, the TS vote thing kinda feels like a trap and I'm expecting them to pull a group visit on us right after like they did before Lively Navigator's visit

on that topic if we do get a group visit soon, I reckon Talented Builder and/or Bumbling Boatswain will be part of it, what with the rebuilding Aviary Village thing
