Hi, I was really surprised.

The fact that the director is Iranian, Sebastian is Romanian, and Maria is Bulgarian = a good indicator of the direction of the story and the purpose since we know what's D.T.'s opinion about immigration (plus, his speeches from when he was the president).

I think and hope most people do not support D.T., and in 2024 there is the United States presidential election. I think the timing is not just a coincidence (strictly my opinion), and we got this info:

as promised i decided to ask who might be the republican, the democratic candidates, will there be a one who might be important, how americans will vote and who can win these elections.

republican candidate: whoever that is, they really care about the americans and their happiness. it really feels that it's their fate to try for a president. very stable person who has all the money in the world (metaphorically of course). they're well-known outside of the country with .. i'd say good things? even if they do get more hate than love, the good things they're known for seem to be more prominent. they won't lie to your faces.. unlike someone else. i feel trump's energy here, ngl; they were president in the past..

democratic candidate: well, that's the "someone else" i mentioned in the previous paragraph. they'll really try to "steal" the ideas and plans from the republican candidate for the audience they have to collect just to brainwash them and even more. i personally am unsure what democrats' intentions towards trump really are as of now but i sense they'll continue with them as they want to (literally) fight trump and repress him? they'll try to brainwash everyone with the usual tactics such as celebrities supporting the democratic candidate, i do see taylor swift supporting them whoever they'll be and possibly some other ones who might be forced or willing to show their support. their actual intentions to make america greater are similar as biden's current management such as creating more wars, chaos and so on. i feel that they weren't president before however the current energy regarding who that can be is sort of messy as i sense the current vice president, kmala harris and someone else whose energy isn't familiar to me even with their possible names. i certainly don't feel biden as i saw he might give up to be candidate again for health reasons.

On July 25th 1980 Alan Wells won the Olympic gold for the 100 metres.

For most Scots the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow remain memorable for two principal reasons.

Their first recollection, of the political wrangling and boycott of the Games, will be shared by many worldwide.

The second, more powerful, memory is Allan Wells becoming Olympic 100m champion.

On 19th July 1980 the world watched as Soviet Premier Leonid Brezhnev opened the XXII Olympiad.

Three months earlier all the international focus had been on his Cold War rival, the American President Jimmy Carter. In 1980, the United States led a boycott of the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow to protest the late 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. In total, 65 nations refused to participate in the games, whereas 80 countries sent athletes to compete.

The US was joined in the boycott by more than 50 countries including West Germany, Canada, China and Japan.

The British Government backed the boycott.

However the British Olympic Association did not, and on 25 March 1980 the BOA voted to send the British team to Moscow.

The vote was decisive, with only hockey opposing the decision to go. The British team, minus the hockey squad and some individuals who did not wish to participate for their own reasons, decided to travel.

While world leaders played politics with the Games, the athletes continued to prepare themselves.

For many it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take part on the biggest stage their sport offered.

At 28, Wells was considered old for a sprinter, but he travelled to Moscow with medals in mind.

Preparing for the Olympics as a sprinter was not what Wells originally had in mind when his athletics career began.

It was the triple jump at which Wells first excelled, becoming 1970 Scottish junior champion before moving on to the long jump.

The decision to concentrate on sprinting only came in 1976 and yielded sparkling results.

A time of 10.55 seconds was clocked for the 100m and Wells took almost a second off his previous best 200m time, to record a 21.42.

At the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, the gold medal in the 200m event belonged to Wells and he lost out by only 0.04 of a second to the great Don Quarrie in the 100m.

Progress continued to be made. Wells was the British record holder at both 100m and 200m when he travelled to Moscow, having completed his training in his home town of Edinburgh, then Australia and Cote D'Azur.

Wells was a medal prospect going into the start of the 100m event in Moscow. By the end of the second round, after a blistering 10.11, that had changed; he was now a gold medal contender.

Detractors claim the 1980 Olympic Games were tarnished due to the non-participation of strong countries such as the USA and West Germany.

However, the Moscow games saw the setting of 73 Olympic records, 36 world records and 39 European records.

In the case of Wells, the 100m field for the final contained many first-class sprinters - Silvio Leonard of Cuba, Marian Woronin of Poland, home favourite Aleksandr Aksinin and Bulgarian Petar Petrov.

With his wife Margot watching the final from the stands, providing strong vocal support that was relayed to a watching nation by the BBC, Wells took to the starting blocks. He had previously performed in competition without blocks but was compelled to do so due to an Olympic rule change. Back home, hopes were high that Wells would be the man to strike gold and emulate Harold Abrahams who had won in Paris 1924.

Wells had been drawn in lane eight with Silvio Leonard far to his left in lane one. It was from the two outside lanes that the drama would come with the bronze medallist emerging from those sandwiched between.

Just 10.25 seconds after the starter's gun had fired, the race was over. Momentum carried Wells, Leonard and the whole field past the finish line but the result was unknown.

The Cuban and the Scot had fought neck and neck the whole way down the track and a photo-finish was required.

After a wait in which the identity of the gold medallist was the subject of intense debate, Wells was declared the winner. Scottish celebrations began.

For Wells the Games were not yet over. Having beaten the world record holder at 200m, Italian Pietro Mennea, in the 1979 World Cup in Turin, Wells knew that there was the opportunity for a second gold medal. In the final a British record run of 20.21 was superb but Wells could not hold onto the race lead; Mennea's time of 20.19 was enough to push Wells into second place and bring Italy gold.

While the sprint double had eluded Wells, he departed from Moscow as the Olympic champion of the blue riband event, and he was in no doubt to whom his victory was dedicated.

When asked by an English journalist if he wanted to dedicate his win to Abrahams, who had died 18 months previously, Wells replied in typically frank fashion: "No disrespect to anyone else, but I would prefer to dedicate this to Eric Liddell."

Because Wells won the gold with so many athletes missing due to the boycotts, many detractors thought it was a tainted victory. Had the Americans, particularly Stanley Floyd and Mel Lattany, been present at Moscow, then surely they would have won, so the argument went.

Fired up by such talk, Wells decided to race in Germany just two weeks after his gold medal win. Still plagued by back trouble and exhausted after a tiring season, it was a huge gamble to take. Had he lost, the critics would forever have held the ammunition to degrade his accomplishment. But Wells was determined to prove to everyone that he was the finest sprinter in the world. And so he did. Beating the field to win the final, Wells was approached by Lattany shortly after the race finished. In the wake of Alexei Navalny’s sudden death in a remote Arctic penal colony last week, his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, has emerged as the new face of Russia’s opposition movement. A widespread, coordinated, and misogynistic disinformation campaign has emerged online to tarnish her reputation.

Lies about Navalnaya having affairs and abortions and not caring about her husband’s death are being shared widely on Telegram channels, Russian state-run media, and social media accounts controlled by groups with close ties to the Kremlin. The campaign, which features fake videos and doctored images, continues to gain momentum as Navalnaya speaks out about Navalny’s death and criticizes Russian president Vladimir Putin, according to details of the campaign shared with WIRED by researchers at Reset, a London-based nonprofit that tracks disinformation campaigns, and Antibot4Navalny, a group of anonymous Russian researchers who track the online activity of Kremlin-linked trolls.

The main focus of the campaign is designed to make Navalnaya appear disloyal to her husband by claiming she is having multiple affairs with prominent businessmen and journalists.

“The Kremlin is using gendered disinformation campaigns to crush dissent at home and to undermine democracy world over,” Kristina Wilfore, director of innovation and global projects at Reset, tells WIRED. “Rather than stand up to Vladimir Putin, social media platforms continue to provide the means for massive amplification of deeply harmful and defamatory rhetoric that puts women at risk and weaponizes gender.”

The campaign to undermine Navalnaya actually began weeks before her husband died. At the beginning of February, a a German-language website published an article alleging an affair between Navalnaya and Bulgarian journalist Hristo Grozev, based on a video that was supposedly produced by a former employee at Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation. The allegations were based on images purportedly from Booking.com that featured Navalnaya’s and Grozev’s names.

The video was posted by an Instagram account that no longer exists, and no users with that username exist on any social media platform, the researchers at Reset concluded. “No public information or any social media profiles appear with the face of the woman from the video, which likely means the video was AI-generated,” the researcher wrote in a report on the campaign. “The video was likely posted on a newly created Instagram account, which was deleted immediately after the video was downloaded, and used only to prove that the account is an actual profile using the interface of the platform.”

Within hours, the same video was being used on an English-language website called Clear Story News, which is part of a pro-Kremlin disinformation network. Meanwhile, the German-language website where the story first appeared lists a Russian publisher with a Moscow address.

At the time, the stories did not reach a large audience and did not attract the attention of fact-checkers. Within hours of Navalny’s death being announced on February 16, links to the articles were spread widely on Russian-language Telegram channels as well as on Telegram accounts and blogs in other languages such as Finnish, Dutch, German, Italian, and English. One of the biggest accounts to spread the disinformation was Russian TV personality turned pro-Kremlin blogger Vladimir Solovyov, who has almost 1.3 million followers on Telegram.

Over the next couple of days after news of Navalny’s death, Solovyov shared more content designed to suggest Navalnaya was having an affair, including a doctored image that appeared to show Navalnaya embracing Russian entrepreneur Evgeny Chichvarkin, who in the past has financed Navalny’s work.

The original image, taken in 2013, shows Navalnaya embracing her husband after he was released from jail. The doctored image has been in circulation for several years, with Reset’s researchers finding examples of it being shared online in 2021. The fake image has been widely debunked by fact-checkers.

In the wake of Navalny’s death, however, the image has taken on a new life and has been shared widely on X, where it has been viewed well over a million times, and on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as on Russian social media platform Vkontakte. It has also been used on many Russian blogs and websites that amplify pro-Kremlin disinformation in multiple European languages.

A non-fake image, showing Navalnaya standing alongside Chichvarkin on a beach, is also being shared to support the false claim that the pair are having an affair.

Navalnaya, who has also said she was happy to be a politician’s wife rather than a politician, was thrust onto the world stage in the wake of her husband’s death, and within hours of his death being announced, she spoke at the highly influential Munich Security Conference. Last week, she spoke with EU leaders before jetting to San Francisco where she met with US president Joe Biden.

Global recognition came with some issues. Her X account, which she created last week, was suspended when the platform’s automated systems triggered an alert after Navalnaya amassed 100,000 followers in the space of just three days. As she struggled to recover her account, others on the platforms were seeking to undermine her campaign to get justice for her husband by sharing a video that claimed Navalnaya was faking her grief over her husband’s death..

The fake video was branded with the logo of the American Psychological Association (APA) and featured footage of US psychologist Paul Ekman, who wrote the bestselling book How to Tell if Someone Is Lying. The video, which looks like it was taken from the Instagram stories of the official APA account, attributes a statement to Ekman that Navalnaya’s grief for her husband’s death is simulated. However, no such video exists on the organization’s social media profiles or its website. A spokesperson for Ekman subsequently told an independent Russian news outlet that his work “does not include consultation on personal, legal, or political matters.”

Also on X, accounts linked to the Matryoshka influence campaign, which targets journalists and fact-checking organizations and was exposed earlier this year by the Antibot4Navalny researchers. Accounts that have been linked to this group have been posting videos claiming that Navalnaya had an abortion last month.

One account reviewed by WIRED that is part of this campaign responded to dozens of posts on X by news organizations in Europe and America by embedding the same fake video and making the same comment: “Yulia Navalnaya had an abortion in January 2024 at a private German clinic.” None of which is true.

Today, "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB) proposed the implementation of the second mandate with a prime minister from GERB, along with signing an agreement on reforms in the judicial system, security services, and regulators. However, Boyko Borissov's party (GERB) rejected this proposal.

This development occurred shortly after the parliament acknowledged the failure of GERB's first mandate with Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel.

The announcement follows weeks of disagreement between GERB and WCC-DB regarding the potential continuation of their coalition government. This disagreement coincided with the planned rotation of the prime minister position between Nikolai Denkov and Mariya Gabriel. Key points of contention included the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers and the terms of the reform agreement.

Later in the day, President Rumen Radev declared that he would hand over the second mandate to WCC-DB on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

According to the Constitution, in the event of the unsuccessful implementation of the first mandate, the second mandate must be transferred to the second most influential parliamentary group, which is WCC-DB. All parties except 'Revival' have stated their refusal to support a second term and have committed to returning the unfulfilled third term if awarded.

Subsequently, the president allocates the third mandate to a party outside the top two parliamentary groups.

If no government is formed with any of the three mandates, the next course of action is early elections, followed by the appointment of a caretaker government by the president.

Failure of the first mandate

On Tuesday, a draft resolution declaring the first attempt to form a government unsuccessful received support from 226 MPs, with only one abstention from WCC-DB.

The debates lasted slightly over an hour and were marked by criticism from opposition parties such as the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), 'Revival', and 'There Is Such a People'. Notably, no representatives from GERB or DPS took part in the discussions.

On March 19, Mariya Gabriel returned a completed mandate for forming a government to President Radev. However, as it was not coordinated with WCC-DB, ministers from the coalition declined to participate in it formally.

Subsequently, on Monday, Gabriel submitted an application to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rosen Zhelyazkov, and the GERB Parliamentary Group, announcing her decision not to participate in the process of electing the Prime Minister or proposing the composition of the Council of Ministers.

In response, Rosen Zhelyazkov called for an extraordinary parliamentary session on Tuesday, focusing solely on Gabriel's draft decision.

Proposal of WCC-DB and GERB's response

Following the parliament's decision, the second mandate will be transferred to WCC-DB.

"We affirm our readiness to fulfill this mandate alongside the GERB parliamentary group. We are prepared to do so in accordance with the commitments we made to each other nine months ago," stated Atanas Atanasov, co-chair of Democratic Bulgaria, representing the coalition.

Atanasov emphasized that if GERB fails to respond to their invitation, the coalition will return the mandate unexecuted.

The proposal from WCC-DB for forming a government includes:

Both coalitions signing an agreement committing to reforms in the judicial system, regulatory bodies, and security services, with clearly defined implementation timelines.

The Prime Minister position being filled by a candidate mutually acceptable to both coalitions, nominated by GERB.

Maintaining the current composition and structure of the Council of Ministers.

"There is a straightforward proposition on the table - an agreement mandating reforms in the judiciary, to be implemented transparently and not just on paper," remarked Kiril Petkov, co-chair of WCC-DB.

In a response issued later on Tuesday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov declined the proposal put forth by WCC-DB in a letter addressed to the media and the coalition.

"We affirm that we will not engage in endeavors to establish a government with the second and third mandates. Let the Bulgarian citizens determine through elections who will govern Bulgaria and how," stated the GERB announcement.

The statement further highlights that Mariya Gabriel was subjected to humiliation by ministers associated with WCC-DB, leading to the inability to fulfill the first mandate.

How did we get here?

In April 2023, WCC-DB and GERB reached an agreement for shared governance with a rotational system for prime ministers. Following this arrangement, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov resigned on March 6. His successor was intended to be Mariya Gabriel, but discord between the two coalitions hindered this transition.

Ahead of the rotation, GERB demanded increased authority, a coalition for a full term, ministerial reshuffles, while WCC-DB sought a concrete reform agenda, including a mechanism for appointing key institution personnel. These differing stances created friction between the coalitions.

On Sunday, outgoing Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov proposed a final compromise to GERB for implementing the first mandate: Mariya Gabriel would assume the roles of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, aligning with GERB's initial preference, along with committing to a reform agreement. However, on Monday, Gabriel officially withdrew her candidacy for the first term.

What's your opinion about this NY times article about Skopje?

Honestly, not much. Foreign journals have published such articles before, both when they were transforming Skopje and filling it with 8239538471 Greek and Bulgarian statues and when the Prespa agreement was co-signed.

The article ultimately states nothing new. When I read it, I got the feeling the journalist subtly takes the side of Greece and Bulgaria but it is subtle. This annoys me, I don't think historical revisionism and irredentism are the type of stuff in which you can apply your diplomacy and subtleness. If someone fabricates an identity based on historical lies on a freaking national / statutory level, shouldn't this be called out? I just don't understand. This is not just some weird marginalized brainwashed ultra-nationalists. Their very president of state and PM are like that.

What's interesting is that the article provides various different perspectives from people of the country. I think it really helps make a point that the chief archaeologist / historian says "I don't care about Alexander, there are others we should talk about". A major historian of a country that has built its entire existence around this historical figure saying meaningfully that "she isn't that interested" is basically a diplomatic, cautious way of rejecting the controversial historical claims her country makes. But she can't say it openly because perhaps that would get her in trouble or she would receive hate. Then the Times add more perspectives - only one being full brainwashed - but choose to end this on another person saying they feel no connection to such historical figures in any way, neither historically nor culturally nor lingually. I think ending the article with this was a choice.

So, yes, the article is okay, maybe it's me being Greek that makes me feel subjectively that it was too subtle? Reconsidering it, I don't know, it was still too subtle because there 's a huge lack of empathy for the victims of this historical appropriation. The Times repeat that Greece and Bulgaria keep protesting about all this and then a lot of the civilians interviewed in Skopje semi-confess their lack of connection to the historical heritage the country is appropriating, yet nobody sounds like there should be some change, some action taken to correct this controversial situation. Basically the vibes are; yes it's one fat lie, yes the other countries are freaking out but who cares, we ain't changing shit. And the Times are like "yes very sad, anyway". I guess this is what annoyed me. But of course it's still a better article for our arguments than it is for theirs, so there's that.

The European Parliament on Thursday adopted a resolution condemning Azerbaijan and the EU’s handling of the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis, two weeks after Baku launched a lightning strike into the enclave, forcing 100,000 people to flee.

The resolution, which mentions “a gross violation of human rights and international law” and “unjustified military attack,” was adopted by an overwhelming majority of all groups: 491 MEPs voted in favor, with only nine against and 36 abstentions.

Lawmakers called for the EU and its member countries to urgently reassess the bloc’s ties with Azerbaijan and pushed to suspend “all imports of oil and gas from Azerbaijan to the EU in the event of military aggression against Armenian territorial integrity or … attacks against Armenia’s constitutional order and democratic institutions.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in 2022 signed an agreement to double purchases of Azerbaijani gas by 2027.

“The European Parliament is taking the gravity of the situation seriously by demanding an end to all imports of Azerbaijani gas and oil, now the Council and the Commission must finally act,” said François-Xavier Bellamy, a French conservative MEP, who supports Armenia.

Renew, the centrist group that also pushed for the resolution, said in statement that the EU and its member countries should now “increase both their presence on the ground and the humanitarian aid to people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia or living in Nagorno-Karabakh.” However, the resolution did not win the support from one of its senior members, Bulgarian MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk, who hails from his country’s ethnic Turkish party.

Lawmakers also wanted Azerbaijani officials to be sanctioned, even if EU countries will probably ignore the MEPs’ demand. ( x )

Baba Vanga's next forecast for 2023 is full of doom and gloom. Baba Vanga had a vision which saw her predict that a biological attack will be launched by a developed country. This prediction seems to relate to the current Russia-Ukraine war as Russian president Vladimir Putin has previously threatened Ukraine with a nuclear attack. If this prediction comes true, this could result in mass destruction and have disastrous consequences for those in Ukraine. 

As well as this, the blind mystic predicted a solar tsunami where the Earth's magnetic shield will be fatally destroyed. The solar storms could cause blackouts and communication failures. Baba Vanga also saw a world covered in darkness following an alien invasion as she predicted the Earth's orbit could "change". This could lead to the climate on Earth drastically changing. 

A power plant could see a huge explosion which could lead to toxic clouds forming over Asia. Baba Vanga predicted that other countries could be affected by the explosion due to a spread of serious diseases as the toxic clouds fill the air.

maritza krum is the daughter of the bulgarian president vasil krum. because of his political position, she's been in the public eye for most of her teenage years. she begs for her parents to let her apply to a university in the united states so that she can have a more normal university experience.

after settling in, she meets a fellow student linus sullivan when he helps her pick out some books in the library. she becomes interested in him and they get to know each other, connecting easily on a deeper level.

martiza doesn't share her father's identity with linus at first, wanting him to like her for who she is. she's also afraid that her identity would make things difficult between the two since linus's life is very different from hers. linus is also private and doesn't seem to like crowds.

maritza's choice of university is eventually found out by the press and linus also finds out the truth of who she is. at first he freaks out and feels betrayed.

eventually maritza explains herself and he gives her another chance after realising that he has fallen in love with her. the two start properly dating. he never gets used to the attention that comes with dating maritza but luckily they can have a fairly normal life in the usa.
