Despite a bounce-back season under new boss Erik ten Hag that saw them finish third in the Premier League, win the Carabao Cup and reach the Europa League semifinals, Manchester United face several challenges this season.

First and foremost, this team is still in "build mode," as many of the pieces aren't natural fits for the style of football Ten Hag wants to play. (It's also the style that got him the job.) Second, there remains uncertainty over whether the club will be sold or whether it'll take on new investment (or whether the Glazer family will simply maintain the status quo). As a result, budgets remain relatively tight (by United standards anyway).

United have budgeted for a summer net spend of roughly £120 million ($153m,) plus whatever they can raise from outgoing players. They've already spent nearly half of that on signing Mason Mount from Chelsea, and they'll probably want to bring in a striker, a goalkeeper and possibly help in midfield as well. That will require some careful moves in the summer.

David DE GEA (32 years old, contract expired in 2023) OGDEN: "United had the option to extend his contract by one year, but they chose not to because he was on massive wages -- only Cristiano Ronaldo earned more in the past few seasons -- and instead tried to get him to agree to a short-term extension, albeit on less money. That didn't work out, so now he's gone and I think it's time to move on.

"I don't care how many Golden Gloves he wins. He makes a ton of mistakes, and he's not suited to Ten Hag."

MARCOTTI: "I think you need to turn this into a positive. Let De Gea test the waters. If it's true that they wanted him to take a 50% pay cut to stay and he turned them down … well, that's around £8m a year. Very few teams in Europe can afford to pay a keeper that, and those who can aren't looking for a keeper, let alone De Gea.

"Use this time to look for a No. 1, and if it doesn't work out, I think you can always go back to him. … Unless he goes to Saudi Arabia, he won't find a club that will pay him that sort of money."

Dean HENDERSON (26, 2025) OGDEN: "He wants to play regularly and Nottingham Forest are willing to sign him, so if you get a No. 1, whether De Gea or somebody else, you can let Henderson leave and maybe make £30m or so in transfer fees. If not, you have to keep him."

MARCOTTI: "I don't think it would be a tragedy if you transfer him and then bring back De Gea or even someone like Yann Sommer, maybe even on loan if it means giving you another £30m to spend on fees for the centre-forward you need. You're not going to fix every position in one window anyway. And if you end up keeping him, you'll probably need to extend him as well."

Tom HEATON (37, 2024) OGDEN: "Heaton is a good reserve keeper, but at his age, he wants to play. He had an offer from Luton Town and was tempted, but United are blocking it because they may need him if they let Henderson go and they don't reach a new deal with De Gea.

"Ideally you'd let him go; I don't see how you can until you've sorted this out."

MARCOTTI: "I don't see what the big deal is here frankly. The man is 37, he was their No. 3, he hasn't played a minute of league football since 2020. Just let him go. You can always find a backup keeper on loan, like they did last year with Jack Butland."

Nathan BISHOP (23, 2024) MARCOTTI: "I'm a fan of having a young player as your third keeper. He's got league experience at Southend and at Mansfield Town in League Two, so keep him around.

"Like many United players, he has a club option extension that you can trigger if he suddenly looks good and you want to offer him a deal. There's no point loaning him or trying to sell him at this stage."

Lisandro MARTINEZ (25 years old, contract expires in 2027)

Raphael VARANE (30, 2025) OGDEN: "He has a patchy fitness record, so I wouldn't extend his deal, not least because United have the option of a one-year extension. You can wait and make a decision on that."

Harry MAGUIRE (30, 2025) OGDEN: "You have to move him on. I don't know where, and it might have to be on loan because of his wages and his remaining contract, but you have to move on. He is Man United's fourth choice at centre-back and Gareth Southgate has made it clear that he needs to play if he is to be considered for England's Euros squad next summer."

MARCOTTI: "We've been here before. You're going to have a huge problem finding a club that might want to take him on a permanent basis. I think you have to be open to a loan, maybe even paying a part of his wages, not least because you probably don't want to loan him to a top-six club with whom you're competing."

Victor LINDELOF (28, 2024) OGDEN: "I'm not a massive fan, though he did very well when he came in for Lisandro Martinez after his injury and when he's not playing alongside Harry Maguire. He's a solid squad player. I don't think you need to extend his contract; you can just trigger the one-year option in January if needed."

Phil JONES (31, 2023) MARCOTTI: "He started four league games in the last four years and became the butt of many a cruel joke. It's not surprising that the club let him go as a free agent. You just hope that he finds some serenity, whether in football or elsewhere."

Eric BAILLY (29, 2024) MARCOTTI: "You won't get much for him in terms of transfer fees, not least because he had a difficult season at Marseille last year, making just five league starts, getting injured and then not getting back into the team. Ivory Coast are hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in January so he'll want to get match fit, which means he presumably will be open to a move."

eden MENGI (21, 2024) OGDEN: "He didn't play last year, so loan him out. If he does well and proves he's fit and can contribute, you can always trigger the one-year option and then look to extend him."

Alex TELLES (30, 2024) OGDEN: "You have to find him a new club and recoup what you can. He did well enough at Sevilla last year, but he can't defend and there's no need for United to carry three left-backs."

MARCOTTI: "Telles may be more of a natural wing-back, but I don't think he's a bad player at all. If the club is determined to go with Malacia and Shaw, fine, but then loan him out and, if he does well, trigger the one-year extension.

"Who knows what's going to happen? It's insurance against Luke Shaw having to play centre-back and being stuck with Malacia as your starter."

Brandon WILLIAMS (22, 2024) OGDEN: "He's had a ton of injuries and only played six minutes of football last year in the Carabao Cup. He played regularly when on loan at Norwich the year before, so I'd look to find him a new club and get what I can."

MARCOTTI: "Again, if you have that one-year club option situation, why not use it? See if he can go on loan somewhere and relaunch his career. Letting him leave on a permanent deal right now makes no sense: nobody is going to give you money for a guy who played six minutes of football in the previous 12 months. Plus, he can offer cover for both full-back positions."

Alvaro FERNANDEZ (20, 2024) OGDEN: "He played a lot at Preston in the Championship last year and he's yet another left-back. Keep him around as a squad player. If you like what you see you can always trigger the one-year extension or give him a whole new deal."

Diogo DALOT (24, 2028) OGDEN: "I can't believe they gave him a five-year deal. He's average. This is Manchester United's fatal flaw: sure, extend his contract, but why give him five years when he'll take three?"

Aaron WAN BISSAKA (25, 2024) OGDEN: "He's not my ideal right-back, but he buckled down and did very well last season and you've got to reward that."

MARCOTTI: "I'd defer to Ten Hag on this one. On paper, he's not a Ten Hag full-back at all. Sure, he worked hard, but he is what he is. I certainly wouldn't extend him in the summer. You can always trigger the one-year extension if you're scared that suddenly Real Madrid will come in for him or whatever."

Appearing at Jakarta Fashion Trend 2023, 5 Designers Share Their Work

Jakarta Fashion Trend 2023 will again be held at Soehana Hall, The Energy Building on January 11-12.

Jakarta Fashion Trend (JFT) 2023 held by the Indonesian Fashion Chamber (IFC) Jakarta This chapter carries the theme of FashByte.

Where the FashByte theme is a fashion show concept that combines fashion, beauty, and nature, it features a Fashion Parade by 62 IFC fashion designers.

Five of the fashion designers displayed their work at the fashion show series, namely the Bank Indonesia Representative Office of Jambi Presents Bima Zikwan, Hannie Hananto, Rengganis, Monika Jufry, and Vielga X Batik Minang.

Each work of the five designers has its own story, here are the reviews:

1. Bima Zikwan with Sahaja Theme

At JFT 2023, Bima Zikwan carries the theme Sahaja, which is inspired by the spirit and optimism of today.

This deluxe ready to wear collection from Bima Zikwan presents a contemporary modern style by utilizing the archipelago's wastra, namely songket.

Bima Zikwan designs clothes with typical Jambi songket motifs such as angso duo, timin seeds, tatapo flowers, and pucung rebut combined with stylish woven fabrics.

Bima Zikwan's work is also dominated by gray and light blue, reflecting unpretentious women who are principled, but still modern.

Hannie Hananto as the Head of IFC Jakarta Chapter at JFT 2023 also presented her work with the theme of Women and the form of one line drawing, in printing and embroidery.

One line drawing design is a technique of drawing an object with one continuous line without breaking, even though it looks simple, it is still complex.

Hanni Hananto's one-line art is dominated by maroon, creamy, and black colors.

Cutting shirt dresses, jackets, blazers, polka dot skirts to wrinkle games in the pants collection are Hannie Hananto's new ideas.

3. Rengganis with a Work Named Ratri

Riri Rengganis presents her elegant work inspired by the atmosphere of the night in a palace, with the title Ratri.

Ratri itself is a Javanese word that means night, usually often used in literary works or performances such as kethoprak and wayang.

In the collection exhibited at JFT 2023, Rengganis uses a handwritten batik wastra from Bayat, Klaten, Central Java.

The checkerboard motif of the original gedogan weaving is called Suat Songket in a natural dye from Baduy, the indigenous Sunda tribe of Banten.

All of these fabrics are combined with black fual cotton, which keeps Ratri luxuriously grounded.

Pense pequeno: Foca no jogo

e corta tudo essas bosta

"Foca no jogo, cara!" diz essa linda foca simpática.

Então já falamos de começar o jogo, de definir o leitmotif para seu jogo (ou pilar) e como essa decisão impacta na mecânica, universo, dificuldade e ritmo. Foi uma jornada linda e eu já agradeço todos vocês por chegarem até aqui. Mas esse não é o fim, é só o começo. E não estou falando metaforicamente, que nem aqueles textos bonitos e motivacionais dublados pelo cara do Big Brother. Desenvolver um jogo é difícil pacas, mas talvez mais difícil que todas as etapas de desenvolvimento combinadas é dizer adeus às features que você ama. E você vai ter que dizer.

Algumas situações corriqueiras que levam a cortes são:

Feature creep — Quando, sem querer querendo, você acaba se empolgando nos primeiros passos de desenvolvimento e planejamos muitas outras features, muitas das quais não complementam muito o jogo. Quando feature creep acontece muito cedo no projeto, o impacto pode ainda ser pior pois você já nem sabe mais qual o core do projeto. Corte excesso de documentação e features semelhantes com um lança chamas, sem dó nem piedade.

Tempo de desenvolvimento é diminuído — O dinheiro acaba, eventualmente. E algumas vezes, acaba muito antes do esperado. Quando isso acontece, temos que ou diminuir o número de coisas a ser desenvolvida e assim diminuir o tempo de desenvolvimento ou então achar fontes alternativas de dinheiro. Mesmo que você ache mais dinheiro, corte algumas coisas só para não se permitir ficar dessa situação apertada novamente.

Diminuição da equipe — Pessoas mudam-se e mudam a si mesmas, perdem o interesse em algo que era importante ou simplesmente tem que priorizar outras coisas. Isso acontece, de boa. Mas ter duas mãos a menos no projeto vai impactar o número de coisas que dá para fazer dentro do tempo planejado. Sem falar que algumas vezes, o trabalho feito por essa pessoa não pode ser continuado pelo resto da equipe. Vamos supor que você perde seu principal artista e os demais não conseguem imitar o estilo dela, o que fazer? Mudar o estilo da arte e tentar diminuir ao máximo os assets de arte necessários.

Features que levam tempo demais — Eu nunca, nunca estive em um equipe em que alguém sempre acertava suas estimativas de tempo. Algumas pessoas terminam antes mas em geral a maioria termina depois. Temos a tendência de ser otimistas com o tanto de trabalho que podemos fazer, isso é normal e contornável. Se você acha que vai levar 1x tempo, sempre se prepare para 1,5x. Mas ainda sim, as vezes leva 2x, 3x, 4x ou 10x para chegar no resultado esperado. Sempre que uma feature começar a atrasar, reavalie duas coisas: quanto falta para acabar e a importância dela no projeto. Se é um pequeno atraso e é uma feature importante, vale a pena. Se é um atraso grande e uma feature de pequeno impacto, você corta. Os dois outros casos (feature importante e grande atraso ou features não tão importantes e pequenos atrasos) são os mais difíceis de decidir. Nestes casos, vale a pena conversar com todas as partes envolvidas, arte programação e GD, antes de decidir.

Features que não tem impacto esperado — A feature super foda que ia ser o grande diferencial do jogo foi implementada e na real é uma grande bosta? Acontece. Converse com o pessoal e vejam se não é algo que pode funcionar com alguns ajustes. Se não, corta essa ingrata e de volta para a prancheta.

Mecânica mais legal encontrada — Esse é o problema que todo mundo quer ter. Você pensa em uma forma que as coisas vão funcionar mas sem querer descobre outro que é muito mais legal. Isso geralmente implica em cortar o modo de jogo ou feature originais. Mas hey, você achou algo melhor e é isso que importa.

Mecânica não funciona como o esperado — Às vezes, tudo que foi planejado simplesmente não funciona como deveria. A feature que deveria realçar o gameplay na verdade concorre com ele e tudo fica mais frustrante. Tente alguns ajustes ou novas funcionalidades ouvindo o que o resto do pessoal tem a dizer. Se nem assim funcionar, já sabe: passa a faca.

Levels não se conectam bem — Isso é um erro recorrente em projetos que são feitos com várias pessoas fazendo partes diferentes ao mesmo tempo ou uma única pessoa fazendo partes não conectadas e depois tendo que juntar tudo. Daí acontece de a transição de uma área para outra ficar meio estranha ou algumas partes simplesmente não parecem fazer parte do mesmo universo. Alguém vai ter que passar por um total makeover ou vai ser cortado. Decida baseado no tempo e pessoas disponíveis.

Um parte do jogo não é mais necessária — Se uma parte do jogo não parece estar adicionando à mensagem final ou está atrapalhando o ritmo, não pensem duas vezes. Tesourada.

Mas mesmo que nenhuma dessas situações seja exatamente o que está se passado no seu projeto, volta e meia você precisa se dar um tempo. Tomar um ar. Jogar o ultimo build. Ver como desconhecidos jogam o último build. E realmente se perguntar: Como podemos melhorar? Como podemos simplicar? Como podemos ter o melhor jogo possível e retirar tudo que não adiciona à experiência?

Isso é às vezes um processo traumático pois com frequência você se vê na situação de ter duas excelentes features que complementam o jogo, mas não há tempo para aperfeiçoar as duas. Os ter as duas deixa o gameplay um pouco confuso. Ou um pouco menos rápido e a agilidade faz parte do seu leitmotif. E essa feature já pode ter sido parcialmente implementada. Ou totalmente implementada. As vezes, ela é parte essencial do seu gameplay, mas a pessoa responsável por colocar ela saiu e ninguém mais sabe como fazer ajustes. E todos esses cortes são um pequeno luto para equipe, todos eles doem. Nós começamos nossos jogos, vemos eles crescer, alimentamos cada nova idéia legal, é um processo cheio de amor.

Um corte errado pode ter um efeito negativo no seu jogo. Cortar uma feature secundária que na verdade era complementar ao gameplay principal e a equipe não percebeu, pode ter um efeito devastador na experiência do jogo. Por isso esteja sempre atento às ramificações de seu gameplay e de preferência conduza alguns A/B testings.

A/B testing funciona assim: você faz duas build em que a única diferença entre elas é a existência da feature que você quer testar. Não precisa ser a feature completa, pode ser só uma parte, mas é importante que todos o resto do jogo esteja exatamente igual. Você pega um grupo homogêneo de pessoas e divide esse grupo em dois menores, randomicamente. Cada um dos grupos vai jogar apenas uma das build e nem sabe que existe outra. No final da jogatina, você recolhe feedbacks dos dois grupos, primeiro de forma geral e depois tentando puxar pro assunto da feature mas sem deixar claro que é isso que você está testando. Talvez até faça algumas perguntas sobre outras features, só para disfarçar. Após esse teste você terá uma idéia mais clara da importância da features inclusive se os dois grupos responderem as mesmas coisas. Pois se isso acontecer, quer dizer que a feature é realmente irrelevante e pode ser removida sem maiores impactos ao jogo.

Um jardim bem podado passa uma mensagem estética mais forte do que um sem podar.

Cortar uma feature pode parecer doer como cortar um dedo ou amputar um membro, dependendo de o quão arraigada ela já está no emocional da equipe, mas na verdade é mais como uma poda de uma árvore ou arbusto. Nada está sendo perdido, o jogo só está ganhando uma forma mais coesa, se aproximando mais do seu objetivo com ele. O corte, na verdade, só te deixa mais próximo do resultado final. Com os cortes seu jogo vai crescer mais saudável e ter uma mensagem mais forte.
