Luis Lopes ABYSS MIRRORS - echoisms - Clean Feed is on a tear, check out this slab of free jazz from Lisbon
From the music recorded in two days at Namouche Studios Lisbon, and reaching the public through this cd, comes a constantly changing sound and atmospheric passages, managed with the tense restraint of someone who listens and understands their place within a great formation and moments of collective ecstasy with no final destination. Movements of elusive harmony that revolve around themselves in line with the haunting lyrics of 'He Loved Him Madly' by Miles, along with a whirlwind of strings that brings that liberation of Alan Silva's ensembles, electronic phrases as meta-rhythmic as landscapes and more detours and certain continuities, in an abysmal game of mirrors. The name is well placed! The troop, the Abyss Mirrors, invoked by guitar player Luís Lopes, as described in his own words draws from inspirational foundations and a search for continuity to music that is born from the ensembles of Sun Ra and advances through the electric periods of Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman, to continue with Wadada Leo Smith, and pinching from electroacoustic giants like Stockhausen or Gabriel Prokofiev. A Herculean task but full of intention, built by an ensemble made up of a dozen figures, 4 nationalities: Portuguese, Swedish, Finnish, and Brazilian, all currently based in Lisbon, coming from areas as disparate as intersectional: obviously from jazz but also free improvisation and experimental styles, from electronic to underground techno, contemporary or rock, with a good balance between electric and acoustic. All people recognized and recognizable in a collusion of more or less usual cronies from Lopes various wanderings. creditsreleased March 21, 2023 Luis Lopes electric guitar Flak electric guitar Jari Marjamaki electronics Travassos electronics Felipe Zenícola electric bass Yedo Gibson tenor , alto, soprano sax Bruno Parrinha alto, soprano sax Helena Espvall cello Maria da Rocha violin Ernesto Rodrigues viola All music by Abyss Mirrors under Lopes direction

HOJE /// TODAY /// 19h /// Golfo Místico | (Danação)⠀ ⠀ INTERPRETAÇÃO/INTERPRETATION: António Jorge Gonçalves⠀ ⠀ ORQUESTRA/ ORCHESTRA: David Magalhães Alves (violino/violin), Hernâni Faustino (contrabaixo/double bass), José Bruno Parrinha (saxofone/saxophone), Miguel Mira (violoncelo/cello), Paulo Leal Duarte (guitarra eléctrica/electric guitar), Paulo Curado (flauta/ flute), Nuno Morão (bateria/drum kit).⠀ ⠀ We are pleased to invite you to the fourth session of Golfo Místico, titled "Damnation".⠀ With curatorship of João Madeira, Golfo Místico is a cycle of improvisation, to happen once a month in Zaratan, that intends to create a collaboration between the music and the visual or performative arts.⠀ The cycle involves two parallel and subsequent calls. On one hand Zaratan will invite a different artist to each session - linked to the performing arts, dance, visual arts, among others - to elaborate a list of 5 sounds / musical themes / melodies; on the other hand João Madeira will gather and direct a small orchestra, with different formations, in order to translate and interpret one or all the 5 songs suggested by the artist, who is challenged to improvise live during the concert.⠀ The INPUT is therefore provided by the musical themes (from all possible universe, known or unknown, traditional or erudite, vocal or instrumental, from electric or acoustic sources) that have been associated with moments, images, memories, dreams, nightmares, states of mind or emotions important to the guest artist. The OUTPUT of the cycle Golfo Místico is an artist video that will lately be edited in a DVD.⠀ With this series of encounters between musicians and artists, we hope to generate valuable creative processes and encourage collaborative and interdisciplinary practices by presenting works still under construction with an improvisational attitude. Each performance, concert, interpretation, tries to be conceptually different from the previous one, at the technical, formal and performative level, as well as in the media and the methodologies used.⠀ ⠀ In this session of Golfo Místico there will be the projection of the video realized by Mar Suaréz . https://www.instagram.com/p/BoUJeClgddW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1diebm3nte3y9

DESVIO - Mostra de Jazzes na Parede: Bruno Parrinha / Ricardo Jacinto / Luis Lopes
Entrevista conduzida por Filipe Quaresma e Rui Eduardo Paes com o trio de José Bruno Parrinha, Ricardo Jacinto e Luís Lopes.
Tumblr media

REANIMATION ORCHESTRA MEETS IN WENDEL
Tumblr media
2018/12/05 REANIMATION ORCHESTRA -work in progress- Wendel Berlin - DE
“Reanimation - work in progress” is a concert series started in November 2017 at Cafe Wendel. It’s a monthly meeting which moves between the idea of open rehearsals of Reanimation Orchestra and the development of new sound-pieces
This time Reanimation Orchestra will play a new composition by Guilherme Rodrigues based on the graphic score by José Bruno Parrinha.
Tumblr media
The piece will be performed by Guilherme Rodrigues - Composition, Cello Elo Masing - Violine Marie Takahashi - Viola JD Zazie - Turntable, CD Players, Field Recordings Caroline Cecilia Tallone - Hurdy Gurdy Ingólfur Vilhjálmsson - Contra Bass Clarinet Adam Goodwin - Double Bass
REANIMATION ORCHESTRA is an international open-structured multidisciplinary group; an electro-acoustic ensemble of musicians. We are conductors, composers, interpreters of contemporary classical and baroque music, experimental improvisers, avant-turntablists, field recording phonographers, arrangers, singers, noise musicians, photographers, writers, painters and activists. Our diversity characterises our group-sound, blending of brass, woodwind, string and electronic sounds. Driven by the origins of sound, the domain of silence and modulations happening in time and space, Reanimation Orchestra explores forms and structures in  relation to our time, from corporeal and sound relationships, spacial- and psycho-acoustics, experimental approaches and electronic music to contemporary art and beyond. An approach situated at the intersection of composed and improvised music, all members, in addition to performing, take turns as composer for the group. As an orchestra form part of larger communication platform as a catalyst for new generations who are ready for events evolving every moment around the world in the arts as they are in social, environmental, cultural and political movements to come.
