#Brozone and AJR

This has been sitting in procreate for nearly 5 months, but I finally decided to finish this! It’s been awhile, but this is the final piece of a BroZone and AJR project I randomly started in April! Fun Fact: Clay was the first brother I had matched to a song! His was the one I was most excited about, so I had originally decided to save his for last to keep motivation for the others, only for his to take me 5 months to finished from sketch to shading and such (the flat colors were completed awhile ago too, I did pretty much all the shading yesterday and today)

Anyway! Song and lyric explanation. After getting into trolls and then hearing this song, all I could think of was Clay. The opening like was “Everyone's laughin' at me, But not like they used to”, which just felt so in line with his fun boy personality. The song in general seems like how he would feel like his brothers (mainly JD) see him. How they still aren’t taking him seriously and don’t see him has grown up. I think also the feeling of confusion/being lost would maybe be how Clay and many of the putt-putt trolls would feel after the events of band together. All those kind of come together in the lyrics I decided to have in the background of the piece.

I am so happy to have competed this and my whole project for these pieces! It was my first kind of step into the fandom and I still have many more ideas to come! If you read this far, thank you! Please tell me, what other songs you see connecting to other trolls characters?

- SOOOOO they met on Rainy's self-discovery visit to Pop Village right? I simply cannot get over the idea of this charming horse bastard with cool rainbow wings just showing up one day and Cherry B. being IMMEDIATELY enamored with him

- Poppy being herself would definitely hold a party for Rainy's arrival and a Cherrainy karaoke duet and dance DEFINITELY happens, trust 👍

- Cherry and Rainy soon get to know each other more and TOTALLY hit it off, definitely bonding over the fact that they're both mixed genre pop trolls with less than ideal parental situations. They feel less outcasted and alone after meeting each other

- songs I associate with them? AJR. Obviously. Do I need to say more? And they definitely get each other into their respective genres

- they both definitely get into Brozone together. Their collective bias is Floyd 😁

- Cherry gives Rainy a hug time bracelet <3

- BONUS CHERRIS: being from Pop Village, Cherry and Iris Chai most certainly at least knew of each other for a while, though my brain is leaning towards "Iris is Cherry's one and only real friend from childhood veeeeerry slowly turned queerplatonic post World Tour"

AJR’s Maybe Man album feels so much like JD and Brozone. Lyrics are from Maybe Man and 2085. It’s been awhile since I attempted shading like this, but I’m pretty happy. It’s also a first time drawing JD, now I have either draw the other bros better or draw him being dumb.

Finally got to the next Brozone and AJR piece! I was really struggling with what would fit Bruce the most, all the others I have a pretty concrete idea. Look below if you want to see more about my logic behind the lyrics. Curious what others would have put.

I feel like the last lyrics of Turning out pt.iii are an older Bruce talking to his past self and the rest of the song is how a younger Bruce was struggling with finding a real sense of romantic love. He probably experienced/received a lot of superficial “love” from potential partners until he finally found vacay island. I feel like the whole song could be his struggle to find the true kind of love he has with Brandy.

I think touchy feely fool could also fit Bruce. I think while he has a resentment to JD, he overall still cares deeply for him and all his brothers (These feelings probably increasing after having his own kids).There’s still a sense of hurt feelings he will newer get over, but he also is almost more angry that he isn’t actually angry. Thats how I can see him feeling at least.

The Branch piece for my AJR and Brozone collection! (series? Idk) The lyrics are from ‘Yes I’m a Mess’ . With Branch now complete, we’re finally at 4/5 of the brother done, with Clay being the last one! If you haven’t seen the others, here they are: John Dory , Bruce, and Floyd. If you want to know more about my thoughts and see version without text and background stuff, keep reading!

For Branch I was considering using lyrics from ‘I Won’t’ but they felt more aligned with his attitude during the first movie/maybe world tour, but not exactly him after band together. This meant ultimately going with lyrics from ‘Yes I’m a Mess’.

I feel like the song is fitting for Branch since he has changed, but is still unapologetically himself and proud of it. Also, “I like myself like this” is repeated multiple times and reminds me of the clip of him from ‘Bye, Bye Bunker’, which really helped solidify the usage of it for this. I also think being stressed is just like such a core part of just Brnach being Branch (I mean this is the best way you can, homeboy here needs a vacation/to relax so badly, but we love him no matter what), so that’s why that part of the chorus was also included.

Here are versions without the text and one with just Branch. Clay is going to be the last one, BUT I am considering making one with all the brothers together (idk if would be completely from scratch or just putting all the posts together into one piece, but I will figure it out after the Clay piece). He’s been delayed like 12 times, but he’s finally complete! The Floyd part of my AJR and Brozone series. Strongly headcannon him having some kind of party phase. Here’s JD and here’s Bruce if you haven’t seen them before. Read more if you’re curious.

Before even getting into the reasoning behind the song choice, can we just talk about how sad little Floyd was during the break up? I use screen shots as references while shading and such and Floyd’s face while reaching for Bruce and Clay was tragic. Like, yes, Branch was abandoned by all his older brothers, but so was Floyd. He needed his older brothers too.

He wants them back to badly, like the desperation.

Anyway, back to AJR and Brozone post

If I had only given Bruce turning out pt. iii, Touchy Feely Fool would have gone to Floyd. That felt too obvious though. I ultimately decided on ‘Hole at the Bottom of My Brain’ because I imagine it’s the logic Floyd had when first on his own and trying to get a solo career going.

He’s maybe getting a party rep, which makes people want to be around him and it fills his loneliness from no longer being around his brothers. I could see him spiraling like this for awhile, to give the image of being more successful than he actually is and to go against what is expected of him. I see the last verse of the song being his moment of clarity and him finally seeing it isn’t the life he wants anymore.

Curious if anyone has a song from The Maybe Man album they think fits Floyd even better? Please let me know and thanks for reading everything if you did!

Brozone Parents

my personal take on the Brozone parents. Got the idea while matching Brozone to AJR songs and thought “how can I make JD even more sad” and then ‘God is Really Real’ came on and I thought “perfect”. Please let me know any thoughts you have if you read the rest below

Brozone is in its early years, Floyd is getting ready for his debut into the band. Everything is going well, their parents are so happy with how the band is already taking off and their boys are so happy to be performing together. Everything is perfect. 

Then, their mom is taken during trollstice, and their dad is taking it badly. He doesn’t know how to continue without her, they had built a family and home together, she was his true love. He turned grey, he won’t eat or speak, he won’t even leave his bed. He is essentially dying of a broken heart.

Rosiepuff and JD are doing everything to give the other bros a sense of normalcy, they’re still working on new music for Floyd’s debut. Rosiepuff is old though, so JD is stuck with a lot of the responsibilities. This includes keeping the egg that had been in his dad’s hair safe, since being grey means he’s less warm and the trolling in the egg would die if JD doesn’t step in.

JD is doing his best to take over raising his brothers. Grandma handles more of the cleaning and providing a home, while JD does a lot of the parents. It’s a lot of work and always chaotic, but he always takes time at the end of each day to give his dad an update on everything happening and also tries to get him to leave his bed.

Eventually, his dad is put in a medical pod, to give him around the clock care to see if any forms of therapy help, but nothing is working. JD is gradually begging more and more desperately for him to get out of bed and to get better, because he isn’t ready to lose both of his parents. He’s hyping up his newest song, but says he’ll only play it for his dad once he gets out of bed.

One day, he walk into the medical pod and his dad isn’t there. A couple of options from here:

1)Their dad just up and left, and they have no idea what happened 

2)He died from his broken heart and the medical staff moved his body to hopefully prevent JD from turning grey 

3)It’s Trollstice and he is willingly sacrificing himself to be with his love again 

4)He leaves a note to say he’s going to the Neverglade trail, where the two met, and when he feels her spirit is roaming and he’ll feel the greatest connection to her.

All of these leave JD feeling like he failed his mother and brothers, by not being able to get their father back. It’s also why he puts so much pressure on the band, because maybe if they’re successful and can hit the perfect harmony, he’ll make their mom proud from where ever she is, and maybe, just maybe, their dad will come back (in scenarios where he didn’t die).

4 though, is why Clay holds so much resentment for JD. Because he left them for the same thing their dad did, which means he lost all his parental figures (in a way) to the Neverglades. Bruce had the same resentment for that reason too, but it fizzled out a bit over the years and after finding his own true love and becoming a dad.

I wrote a majority of this at 3am one night, so I’m sure some of this needs adjusting, but let me know any thoughts/questions

Excited to finally be getting to my last piece for my Brozone and AJR series! The one who sparked it all, TBH. In real middle child fashion, is the last to be included. Here is the song/music video for anyone that wants to listen. Then, playing around with different ideas for a Coraline AU (might do one with Branch as Coraline and Rosiepuff as the Beldam, just for fun)
