Thursday’s gathering was almost identical to the union’s rallying cries last year, when in March 2023 they also said they were ready to strike if agreements weren’t met by their contract’s expiration date. The 32BJ crew was able to avoid that strike a year ago — which would have been the borough’s first-ever, reportedly — after the union finalized a new contract at the 11th hour. They have been fighting for better conditions since the COVID-19 pandemic pushed them to the workforce frontlines. But 32BJ says now BRAB is aiming to reopen their contracts on April 1 to “attack essential workers’ wages and vital benefits.” According to the union, the contract covers 1,400 Bronx workers — doorpeople, handy-persons, porters, and superintendents — at 433 Bronx co-ops, condos and apartment buildings.

Personality
Mariana is a childish goofball but can be serious when need be. She’s a highly intelligent and fiercely loyal woman who seeks a sense of belonging. She’s always eager to make new friends and her goofball-like personality helps her put a smile on almost anyone's face. Underneath that childish facade is a woman filled with insecurities and anxiety that she desperately tries to hide from her fellow Perseus members. She tries to simply make them smile and focuses on her work. (These insecurities and anxiety would bubble up to the surface and have a solid hold on her after learning about MK Ultra, the betrayal of her CIA “allies” and her own betrayal)
Backstory
Mariana is the firstborn and only child of her parents, Alma and Andres. Her parents found themselves in a difficult situation following the second Red Scare, her father was accused of being a communist spy and had most of their rights revoked as a result. Â Their community shunning them.
Andres was later arrested and jailed, where he later died. Mariana herself was just a baby when all this occurred but she felt the bite of its effects growing up. The shunning of her community, and the badmouthing of her father whom she never met. Her relationship with her own mother was strained.
Mariana grew up feeling betrayed by the United States/Capitalists, taking what was basically everything to her before she was even able to form a sentence. It’s what led to her turning to the idea of communism which advertised “equality”, feeling that its lifestyle could provide a better life for not only her but others as well.Â
Using her skills and intelligence, she was able to master the art of cryptology and use that skill to send out an encoded message to any other communist spies in the area. Mariana ends up in contact with one, Nikita who’s a member of Perseus, he has her do some things to see her value and skills and makes mention of her to Perseus himself. She would work up in the ranks before meeting with the leader and later joining his faction.
Trivia/fun-facts
Mariana is known for her signature black lipstick she always wears
Mariana has a tattoo of the Perseus symbol above her right breast/near her collarbone and a snake tattoo on her right arm
Mariana got her facial scars during a mission, a scar on her shoulder from getting shot by Adler, and one on her right arm during a mission as well
While knowing a good bit of Russian, Stitch still gave her some tips
During her time as “Bell”, there was some underlying romantic tension between her and Adler though the two never acted on them. Despite having her memories erased, Mariana was vaguely aware of a man that she was close to and that kept her from acting on any feelings she could’ve had, ofc that man was Stitch
Mariana also swore that if she wasn’t already aware of her sexuality, Park would’ve been her Bi-AwakeningÂ

Operators of four New York nursing homes siphoned more than $83 million in Medicare and Medicaid funding to line their own pockets — all while allowing residents to live under horrific conditions, including letting them sit for hours in their own filth, state Attorney General Letitia James alleges in a new lawsuit.
Kenneth Rozenberg and Daryl Hagler, the co-owners of Centers Health Care, pilfered the government cash meant for the care of nursing home residents at four facilities in the Empire State, according to the AG’s suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court Wednesday.
Going back as early as 2013, Rozenberg and Hagler weaved a complex web involving networks of other corporations and fraudulent transactions to enrich themselves, their family members and other business associates, the filing claims.
The scheme left their facilities were chronically understaffed, resulting in the widespread neglect of elderly residents who were forced to remain in their own urine and feces for hours, were allowed to become dehydrated and malnourished and whose wounds were left to fester, the suit alleges.
And while these problems had been going on for a while before the pandemic, when COVID-19 struck the struggling facilities collapsed — with 400 residents of all four homes dying from the virus in 2020, James claimed.
The facilities included the Beth Abraham Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in the Bronx; the Buffalo Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing; Holliswood Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Queens and Martine Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Westchester.
One Beth Abraham Center resident broke her hip in October 2020 after falling multiple times when taking herself to the bathroom when her calls for assistance went unanswered, the AG claimed.
Another woman at the Buffalo center wasn’t evaluated despite taking a spill from her bed and when her daughter visited, she found her mother unconscious. The elderly woman was later diagnosed with a brain bleed, according to the suit.
In one particularly egregious case, a man at Martine Center died of sepsis because his bed sores weren’t properly cared for and they turned into ulcers, James alleged.
James wants a judge to stop the homes from being able to take on any new residents until they hire proper amounts of staffing.
The AG also called for monitors to be put in place to oversee the financial and healthcare at the facilities and is seeking for the defendants to return the $83 million they allegedly embezzled.
“The owners of Centers Health Care allegedly used these four nursing homes — and the vulnerable New Yorkers who lived there — to extract millions of dollars for their personal use, leading to elderly residents and those with disabilities suffering unconscionable pain, neglect, degradation, and even death,” James said in a statement.
“Rather than honor their legal duty to residents to provide the highest possible quality of life, Centers leadership and their associates seized every opportunity to put personal profit over resident care,” James alleged.
Jeff Jacomowitz, a spokesperson with Centers Health Care, denied the allegations and vowed to fight the case in court.
“Centers Health Care prides itself on its commitment to patient care,” Jacomowitz said. “Centers denies the New York Attorney General’s allegations wholeheartedly and attempted to resolve this matter out of court.”
“We will fight these spurious claims with the facts on our side.”
The AG has filed three other similar lawsuit against nursing homes including another that accused the owners of the Village of Orleans Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albion of stealing $18 million and leaving residents in inhumane conditions.

They say never go back to your hood. But I want to go back to the Bronx, even though I swore I wouldn’t. I want to visit my hood again. I want to go back to where I grew up.
I want to see if that man who used to buy all the little kids ice cream is still out there doing it. I want to see if Hip Hop Harry still visits the kids in the projects and hands out free candy. I want to see the little Black girls with barrettes and beads, and the little Black boys practicing basketball and rap battles. I want to take the 2 train all the way to Brooklyn.
Is Co-Op City still standing? Does AMC still exist? Actually, is Barnes & Noble still there? Does Mister Softee still come around? Are Italian icees still $1, and can you still mix the flavors? Is that lady at the Jamaican restaurant still giving attitude when you ask for extra oxtail gravy—but deep down, she’s the sweetest lady ever, and her food still slaps??
Do y’all still unloose the fire hydrant when it gets hot, block off the street, and let all the little kids play outside? Damn, do y’all still get lite? Play double Dutch and create art with chalk?
That’s exactly what I miss. 🥹
Shoutout to the Boogie Down BX.

Attorneys Fighting for Justice
When our country was founded only white, propertied, Protestant men had the right to vote. Much progress has been made to include a much wider range of voters, but many inequities remain. One of those inequities is access to the legal system for middle-class people who cannot afford to pay hundreds of dollars an hour for legal representation. That’s why the best Queens, Brooklyn, and Bronx car accident attorneys represent clients on a contingency fee, so clients don’t have to pay a dime until their case is settled. In this political climate, we can’t take anything for granted as long as cherished rights are being stripped from us regularly by those beholden to the interests of billionaires and large corporations, so it’s important to understand why contingency fees are important for Queens drunk driving attorneys seeking justice for their clients, but also for people sickened by water poisoned by nearby factories, children living in apartments with lead paint, and unsavory practices that place their bottom line above protecting people’s health.
Don’t Listen to the Whiners
There will always be politicians who whine about how personal injury lawyers are “chasing ambulances” and raising insurance rates. The reality is that their bellyaching is at the behest of their corporate financial donors who don’t want to be held accountable for their miserly practices that cause people harm. They’ll allege that delivery van accident attorneys in Queens are causing inflation by increasing the cost of doing business when what theyre after is getting rid of regulations that protect people’s health and welfare. Putting off problems simply isn’t good business, as homeowners in Florida are finding out as the cost of making repairs that weren’t legally necessary was put off until buildings started to fall down. Now they’re paying the price to contractors and in co-op and condo assessments.

yesterday i went up to the northeast bronx and while i was there i walked through co-op city (a very large housing cooperative of towers-in-a-park), while i liked all the green space up there it was unfortunate how the whole area despite still being in nyc really felt more suburban with uncrossable highways and dead-end sidewalks and such. plenty of auto shops around if i had or needed a car though!

T.R. Ludwig: Bringing Renewable Solar Energy to New York City’s Flat Roofs at Brooklyn SolarWorks
Solar energy is a renewable resource that is generated by converting sunlight into electricity or heat. This sustainable energy is harnessed for generating electricity, heating, cooling, and for clean water. Solar energy can power up homes and business appliances as well as various industry applications. While being a sustainable resource that is comparatively better for the environment’s ecosystem and biodiversity altogether, the use of solar energy panels in today’s day-to-day living can increase a home’s value, can promote a pollution-free environment, is affordable in the long-term, can provide reliability on independent energy utilization, can be professionally installed anywhere, can help save a community’s economic savings, can generate large amounts of electricity, and more.Â
Keeping in line with the imperativeness of the use of Solar Energy Panels in the world today, this article will delve into the use of Solar Energy Panels especially on challenging flat rooftops of residential homes, condos, co-ops, and commercial buildings. With a Solar Designing and Installation firm called Brooklyn SolarWorks (BSW), co-founded by T.R. Ludwig, Gaelen McKee, and Mark Cunningham – the company is established in New York City and provides its renewable energy services to residential, multifamily, and commercial buildings, that are only located in the state’s five boroughs – Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island. With T.R. Ludwig directing the company as the CEO, let’s learn how the co-founders have made flat roof solar panels possible with their innovative design and installation methods.Â
Bringing Solar Panel Systems to NYC’s Urban Rooftops:
Co-founded in 2015 by T.R. Ludwig (Chief Executive Officer), Gaelen McKee (President), and Mark Cunningham (Chief Technology Officer), Brooklyn SolarWorks is led by three expert professionals in the field. The trio established a solar energy firm that provides designing and installation services in Gowanus, Brooklyn, NYC, in the U.S., with a shared vision to “make solar appealing, easy, and available for Brooklyn’s urban rooftops and homeowners.” The co-founders came up with this idea and vision because there were very less number of Solar Contractors who designed and installed solar panels for homes, commercial buildings, and other dwellings in the urban areas. Contractors were taking on more projects and contracts that required installations in suburban regions. This was due to the very challenging installation of the panels on densely urban constructed flat-rooftop buildings as seen in New York City. As a result, urban residences, commercial buildings, and flat rooftops were avoided.Â
To address this challenge, Brooklyn SolarWorks’ co-founders clarified and proved that designing and installing solar panels on flat rooftops and in densely urban dwellings was not impossible. With their services, Brooklyn SolarWorks bridged this gap and strived to serve the local community of NYC’s five densely-populated boroughs. To overcome the challenges for flat rooftop owners, the efficient and professional team at the company adopts new and innovative methods through learning in-depthly about the city’s complex code, zoning, and permitting rules which allows making NYC solar installation and panel designing easy, accessible, affordable, sustainable, and possible with their award-winning and patented innovative creation of the “Brooklyn Solar Canopy”. Rather than expanding operations to other places, T.R. Ludwig and his two other co-founding partners have already completed 90% of their 1,000+ projects by choosing to elevate only NYC’s five boroughs, staying closer to the community and focusing on local clients and customers.Â
The Visionary and Trailblazer in Clean Energy:
Recognized as a visionary and trendsetter, T. R. Ludwig is also named the “Trailblazer in Clean Energy” by City and State New York, for his influential efforts in revolutionizing renewables in NYC, alongside other industry leaders, innovators, and academic professionals. Having an educational background with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and Environmental Studies from Ohio Wesleyan University and an MBA in E-Business from Maastricht School of Management – T.R. Ludwig started his career as Owner of TR Ludwig Associates, Senior Accountant Executive at Gartner Inc., Vice President of Business Development at Ad Energy, Senior Regional Sales Manager at Sunrun, and then the CEO/Co-founder at Brooklyn SolarWorks in 2015. With his endeavors in the solar industry, T.R. Ludwig now stands as one of the USA’s first solar professionals to become certified as a NABCEP (The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Technical Sales. In 2018, the CEO headed Brooklyn Solar Canopy Company as CEO, and in 2022 co-founded EMO Electric.
About Brooklyn SolarWorks (BSW):
The company helps the five boroughs in NYC – Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island, save over 75% of costs in adopting sustainable solar energy practices, especially with Brooklyn SolarWorks’ services in design and installations. Providing a 30% deduction when applied through the Federal Solar Income Tax Credit or Investment Tax Credit (ITC), homeowners and commercial building owners who invest in Brooklyn SolarWorks and their panels, can pay an affordable cost with NYC solar tax incentives to the federal government. Aiming to decrease the use of fossil fuels, and increase the customer’s long-term investment and affordability rates with solar energy panels making the transition to a sustainable energy resource, directly increases NYC’s real estate market and decreases the rise in residents’ electricity bills. Therefore with Brooklyn SolarWorks driving towards a clean energy and green community, the brand is a trusted partner in making solar appealing and accessible.

NY-16 (Westchester County and Co-Op City, Bronx)
Jamaal Bowman (i) vs. George Latimer
Paradoxically, we sometimes find ourselves with little to say about the biggest elections in these previews. There are state assembly elections in this preview with tons of details we wanted to share, but NY-16? You already know.
Jamaal Bowman defeated long-in-the-tooth incumbent Eliot Engel in an absolutely triumphant 2020 primary election. However, New York lost a congressional district almost immediately after, and the domino effect was that Bowman had to be drawn a much whiter district that was nearly all Westchester County and almost no Bronx. (The previous district had been about â…” in Westchester and â…“ in the Bronx.) A Black leftist was never going to have an easy time in those wealthy, whiter new towns, and Bowman indeed did quite poorly with his new voters in 2022, taking only 55% of the vote against a pair of badly underfunded challengers. So AIPAC set their sights on him.
There’s no need to rehash the details: AIPAC recruited moderate County Executive George Latimer, who used his influence to keep NY-16 as white as possible in the 2024 redistricting, and after he got his wish, AIPAC began to dump millions upon millions into the district. They spent over $14 million on independent expenditures alone, an amount that might as well be $140 million or $140 billion—in a congressional primary race, it all becomes something approaching infinity at that point. (Some other PACs, including Democratic Majority for Israel and the cryptocurrency industry front Fairshake, threw down a couple million more.) Bowman and his allies on the left, like Justice Democrats and the Working Families Party had nowhere near that amount of money, and, even after a fundraising like hell for months, could only put together about $4 million to back him up. Polling has been ugly for Bowman, with the only independent poll of the race coming from Emerson in early June, and putting Latimer’s lead at 48% to 31%. Latimer has spent the closing stretch of the race making racist statement after racist statement, but they hardly seem to matter to the white voters of Westchester County, which is why Latimer fought so hard to keep them in the district, to give himself an “ethnic benefit”, as he puts it.
Progressives and the left, including NYC-DSA, who voted to re-endorse Bowman after pulling their support in 2022 over Israel-Palestine issues, are fighting like hell to pull off a miracle here, but are universally braced for a loss, and a painful one. AIPAC is funneling ludicrous amounts of Republican money to elevate a white grievance candidate in the suburbs of diverse, progressive city, and it all appears to be working. Bleak. The early voting numbers are even bleaker: Scarsdale, Mamaroneck, and Rye, all white majority towns that hate Bowman based on their previous voting patterns, have cast more early votes than majority-Black Mt. Vernon, despite Mt. Vernon being somewhere from two to five times their size. Bowman has to hope for an improbable surge of election day voters, something on par with the kind of turnout you would see in a contested presidential primary, or even greater. Again, bleak. We promise the legislative races have more reasons for optimism.

Tamika Danielle Mallory (born June 8, 1980) is an activist. She was one of the leading organizers of the 2017 Women’s March, for which she and her three other co-chairs were recognized in the TIME 100 that year. She received the Coretta Scott King Legacy Award from the Coretta Scott King Center for Cultural and Intellectual Freedom in 2018. She is a proponent of gun control, feminism, and the Black Lives Matter movement.
She was born in Harlem to Stanley and Voncile Mallory. She grew up in the Manhattanville Houses in Manhattan and moved to Co-op City in the Bronx when she was 14. Her parents were activists and founding members of Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, a leading civil rights organization throughout the US. Their work in NAN influenced her interests in social justice and civil rights. He became a staff member of NAN when she was 15 years old and was named its executive director in 2009.
She is a graduate of the College of New Rochelle.
She is a single mother to her son. Her son’s father, Jason Ryans, was murdered in 2001. She explains that her experience with NAN taught her to react to this tragedy with activism. Her son is a member of NAN.
In 2018, she drew criticism for her attendance at an event with, and past praise for, controversial Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, which prompted calls for her resignation from the 2019 Women’s March. Following allegations of antisemitism, she left the organization in September 2019. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #alphakappaalpha
