I Left My Body Lying Somewhere In The Sands Of Time
This piece of writing focuses on a certain coping mechanism that I don't know if everyone is comfortable with, so I'm putting a border up. And here, I will put a definition! "Age regression is a psychological phenomenon that occurs when someone's thoughts, emotions, or behaviors revert to a younger developmental stage. It can be a temporary or long-term response to stress, trauma, or other factors, and it can happen at any age."
So this is NOT A KINK, and I only say this due to the people I know are out there who perceive it as such. People have this in real life. People cope with this in real life. This is just a personal headcanon that I was learning how to write with, and I'm doing my best to know all the research. Please let me know if anything doesn't fit or doesn't seem right or anything that I've gotten wrong, I'm trying to learn.
If you don't want to read it, no one is forcing you to. Be safe, readers!
Time was supposed to be unshakable, wasn't he? Their leader, the man everyone turned to for answers? When something goes wrong, who's the first person everyone knew had the answer to the given problem? Always ready to give advice. Ready to comfort. Old and wise.
So why was he curled in the trunk of an old tree, not feeling old at all?
His adventures had been hell, with time travel. More than double of his lifespan had been spent as a child. But he was in his late thirties now, he was sure, so why did he suddenly feel so small like the world was too big and he wanted to hide? Where was the strong leader people looked for?
He was gone, and a child was left in his place.
Link sniffled and cried, hugging himself. Thankfully they'd been at his and Malon's ranch, so whatever this... this was, was at least occurring in woods he knew were safe. But to someone who felt so small, feeling like the treetops hit the sky, like his memory wasn't quite there or complete, the forest was a maze. Almost like he was nine again. If Time was Time, he'd walk home in five minutes, no problem. But he... Was he Link out of Termina? Link after beating Ganon? Where was the math, what was his age? Would the Mask of Truth show him how old he really was, deep inside?
Was he nine, seventeen, sixteen, eight, five, thirteen, eighteen, or thirty six? That was too many numbers to think of. Masks he could do. He knew them, he wore them, he was the person inside for a bit. Somebody different. Certainly not the mess he was now.
He couldn't walk out, no problem, this time.
Link's hands- at least he knew he was Link, if not anything else. Was that a comfort or a curse? - fumbled at his belt. So many masks usually lined his belt. Where did they all go? The details were fuzzy. Only three of them were still there. At least there were three and they weren't all gone.
He hit his elbow on the tree and instead of flinching, his cries renewed, quiet and confused. Ow, why were even the trees being mean to him today??? It wasn't fair! It wasn't his fault that his limbs were too long and he was too tall and he felt too old to sit here and cry. Brain and body were not the same. Both complex in different ways. All mixed and matched and jumbled. He couldn't quite get a proper grasp on that feeling in the back of his brain, starting to spread and bleed fuzzily into the rest of his consciousness.
Link sniffled and rubbed his eyes. Right, what was he trying to do again? Masks? Ah. The first one he'd ever held.
He unclipped the Deku Mask with shaking, too-big fingers and cradled it gently. Perfect. He sniffled again. " 'M sorry." His voice was thick and small. He then slipped the mask over his face.
XXX
Why did transformations hurt so much? He'd forgotten how much they hurt. He didn't want to hurt. Had he, at some point, gotten used to it? But when had he had the chance to forget, it couldn't have been that long ago?
No matter. Link was maybe a little shorter than he was at nine, with the mask, and that almost cured his sniffles completely. Small in both body and mind, perfect! Matched like Malon's favorite cucco socks! But now what was he going to do, in these woods, in the late hours of the day? It was rapidly getting dark.
Being small wasn't useful in the dark.
And oh, Link didn't like the dark. Things that screamed and cried and took your life lived in the dark. The moon lived in the dark. Majora. Ganon. They all lived in the dark and he was surrounded by it, barely able to see the trees. No fairy to light his way. No song of home faintly heard through the trees to be his guide. Not even a night light.
He burst into tears again.
Link's tears weren't really there, seeing as he was effectively a Deku Scrub. There were no tears to cry. But the frantic breathing was there, the choked sounds in the back of his throat where vocal chords used to be. His hands were clumsy, made of wood, but they were small, how he wanted, needed, felt. How would he get home?
Oh, no no no, Link couldn't go home. They would think he was so silly, Mido would laugh. But was he going home to the Kokiri, or home to Malon? Would Malon think he was silly? His boys?
He didn't want to think of his boys. Link wasn't someone's dad. Being a parent was an adult job. And Link had just made the rule that he wasn't allowed to think of adults, effective immediately. Perfect rule, and rules were to be followed. Rules kept you safe.
So, instead of trying to go home, he scampered off deeper into the woods. He could find fairies, some light. And maybe when he felt better, they could guide him home. Navi always seemed so good at that.
XXX
"Where the fuck is he??" Warriors hissed, looking at the darkness outside. Time had gone out hours ago, claiming he needed firewood. It didn't take hours to gather wood from a stack of wood that was already chopped. He'd seemed a little detached as he told Warriors where he was going, but Warriors had chalked it up to needing some alone time from everything around.
"He jus' fuckin' up an' vanished." Twilight was pacing again. Time wasn't known for just disappearing. Or for saying he was going one place and turning up in another. That was Wild and Hyrule's job. Sometimes Legend's, if he was pissed off enough.
"It's nearly night, don't you think-" Four was cut off by Warriors grabbing his sword.
"I'll go get him. He's somewhere out here. I'll find him. He can't be far."
XXX
Oh, Link was so far away from home, and he wanted to go home NOW. Forget looking silly, the trees were all looking at him and they were mad and there was no moon and he could hear all the noises the forest made. He wanted to go home.
Link made soft, wounded noises, heading this way and that. No fairy bushes, no mushroom lights. No Navi. No Tatl. Just the dark and ohhelpno-
A very small hole he'd wedged a foot into. Had something grabbed him? Link pulled and pulled, but his foot was stuck and tight. Maybe some sort of burrow? He'd know if he was bigger. For sure. Link whined softly. He could hear the forest moving, which meant he had to GO GO GO or else something would find him and snatch him and he'd be gone forever-
Footsteps, quietly crunching, soft to try and not be heard. Link held his breath.
And immediately lost it in a grating sob, unnatural in the transformed body. Link's hands were too clumsy, no matter if they felt the right size. He couldn't magically dig himself out of the burrow-hole. The footsteps were getting faster, more urgent. Link couldn't get up, couldn't get free, one more footstep, Link curled up over himself, two more, hands on his face, covered in dirt one more two more three and four- "Heyyyy, shh. Are you okay?" The voice was warm, calming. As if talking to a frightened, wild animal. "I'm not here to hurt you, just looking for a- Time?" A time? What a funny thing to be looking for. Vaguely, Link recalled that he responded to that name. He paid it no mind, instead continuing to try and wiggle free.
XXX
Warriors looked down at this... Deku Scrub? That clearly seemed to be Time. The scar, the eyes, even the markings had transferred. Time was making an odd rattling noise, sort of like shaking deku nuts in a bottle. Trying to talk? Trying to explain? No. Warriors noted that it was some attempt at Hylian crying, though the body wasn't built for the sound.
Oh, dear.
"Okay, okay, I'll just- I'll try to figure out what's going on, okay? Is- is it some sort of curse? Can I break it? Here let me-" Warriors reached under Time's arms to lift him free, and Time was immediately clinging to him.
XXX
A curse? Was he cursed? Link cried into Warriors' neck. He knew Warriors, knew him from stern talks and warm mugs and being carried when he was too sleepy to walk. Warriors was safe. And he'd brought light with him! Link sniffled again, hands fisted in Warriors' scarf.
Warriors started to pat him down and check him over.
"Are you hurt? Are you okay? You've been gone hours, Time."
Link shook his head. But he didn't answer the second question, nor did he respond much to his name. Warriors found the small dip under Link's chin that meant that he was wearing a mask. Warriors frowned.
"Hey, can you look at me?"
Link looked up at him.
"Are you wearing a mask?" Link nodded slowly.
"Sprite, why? You've told me you don't like using those." Link jolted at the nickname and watched Warriors with wide eyes. 'Helps', Link signed, struggling to properly move his hands the way they should for the sign.
"Helps? With what?" Warriors only got a shrug as an answer.
XXX
Time shuffled to try and lay his head down on Warriors' shoulder, but Warriors gently held his head back up. Time was being so vague. He didn't seem to be fully there, his eyes distant. What could the Deku Mask help that Time couldn't do himself? Time didn't like using masks anymore, he'd said on multiple occasions.
"Can we take the mask off?" Warriors asked, moving his hand to try and get his fingers under it-
Time startled and pushed at his hand, making that same rattling noise he'd made earlier. 'Need it!' Time signed with emphasis, shaking his head.
"Time, c'mon. We've gotta get it off, so you can tell me what's going on."
Time made what was clearly some sort of whine and tried to hide his face in Warriors' neck. Warriors made a startled noise and tilted his head a little to make more space. "Is- is there a reason you can't take it off?" Time didn't answer that one, too busy clinging.
He was acting like a child, frightened and desperate. Warriors put a hand against Time's head, holding him close. "What's going on, Time? I'm just worried." Time made an unhappy noise at the name, and Warriors was sort of freaking out inside. He hadn't seen anything like this, where someone who was normally a functioning adult acted and sounded like a child-
Oh, wait. He had.
Back in the war, once things were starting to simmer down. The nightmares and flashbacks were terrible for many people. And Warriors had seen many a person cry and wail and ask for a parent. He had seen them draw and play in a safe tent. He had watched them seem at ease for the first time in a long time. He couldn't recall what Proxi had called it, but he knew it was some form of coping. Something to make them feel safe.
Time... maybe that's what Time was facing, now. The overwhelming feeling of being small and vulnerable again. These dark woods were no place for a child, whether only in mind or not.
"Alright, Link. I'm gonna need you to take off the mask for just a little while, okay? I've gotta talk to you and need to make sure you can talk back. It might hurt, and it might not make you feel great, but I've gotta check you over. Then, if you want, you can put it right back on."
Warriors softened his voice, hoping that he'd listen.
Time- Link. He could call him Link for now. Just in case.
Link sniffled and cried... and put his hands up to take off the mask. It came off quick, and as soon as it unlatched from Link's face it fell to the ground, and Warriors was met with wailing. He'd been right, the rattling sound had been an attempt at crying.
Now with an armful of a very heavy man, Warriors grunted a little and made to sit down. Link wound up in his lap, shaking and visibly trying to make himself small as he fisted a handful of Warriors' scarf.
"Hey, hey. Okay, see, wasn't so bad. I'm gonna check you over now, okay?" Warriors started gently moving Link's body to make sure that all the nicks that'd been in the Deku Scrub body had been scars and not cuts. Finding that that was the case, Warriors then gave him a hug.
"Alright, good. You're not hurt. Can you..."
Should he really ask this question, was this an invasive ask, would he be mad-
"Can you tell me how old you are? Or how old you feel?"
Warriors bit his lip, rocking Link gently back and forth, waiting for an answer. Link gave a wounded noise and shook his head, closing his eyes and pressing at them. Worth a shot.
"Okay, can you talk to me at all? Tell me why you were so far out here all alone?"
Link visibly tried to gather himself.
" 'S hard." He whispered, voice thick and upset. Link started crying a little harder, and Warriors was quick to console him.
"No, no, no, Sprite, it's okay. You don't have to talk if you can't. I can do without. Can you sign okay? Just give me a simple yes with your hands, if so." Link signed a shaky 'yes' and then moved to hide his face again.
"Okay, buddy. Do you think we can go home now?" Link shook his head, his tears soaking Wars' shoulder. "Why not?"
Link's hands were hard to read, as he shook and clung to Warriors. Warriors caught half-made signs of 'sleepy', 'scared', and 'can't'. He sighed and moved to rest his back against a tree.
"Alright, Link. We'll just sit here until you feel better, okay?"

She Is Fiction, She's A Curse, She's A Pretty Thing On A High, High Shelf
It was surprisingly calm in camp today, Warriors thought with a small smile. He was eating a handful of almonds and cashews that Time had handed him. Wars looked up, about to ask Time for a handful of walnuts as well, before that calm was shattered.
Wind, shrieking happily, some sort of argument on his tongue that Wars couldn't make out. Legend, her hat gone and hair down, an ice rod in her hands. Pink ring glittering in the firelight.
"I'll fucking freeze you with my ice rod, Sailor! Don't try me, your kneecaps will go first!"
Wind laughs again- ah, that's what they're fighting over, Legend's hat. Warriors laughs, and gets his walnuts. Wind ducked under Sky's arm, and between Wild and Hyrule.
"I'll leave ye on an island!" Whatever else he said was lost to giggles and a child's joy. Warriors set his nuts aside.
"Ah, Wind! What's an island?" Warriors asks, his voice clearly teasing. Wind pauses just enough, seemingly insulted, for Legend to snatch her hat back. Her voice goes sour as she responds with; "Something I don't enjoy, anymore."
Wind looks at her, confused. Wars tried to uplift the conversation from it's sudden, dark turn with a half of a story.
"I knew a girl from an island once, in the war. Long blue dress, bright red hair. Always had a hibiscus in it-"
It does the opposite of it's intent.
Legend's eyes go wide, as if she'd just seen a ghost.
"You. WHAT." Her voice is soft, laced with unknown hurt and something resembling fear. She's rigid now, eyes searching Warriors' for any kind of lie.
"She was a nice girl, really good on the battlefield-" Wars tries to amend, fix whatever mistake he'd unknowingly made.
Legend seems to freak out a little, her eyes holding unshed tears. She suddenly grips Warriors by the collar of his shirt, not caring about the sudden rigidity and anxiety Warriors began to show.
"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN YOU KNEW HER." Legend screams, her voice breaking in the middle. She swears again, softly, and thumbs off the pink ring, not caring where it fell. They usually didn't show such lack of care for their things. It's quickly replaced with a blue one, and Legend is back in Warriors' face and space, his voice raised again.
"ANSWER ME, WARS!"
"I-I just knew her from the war. What's the big deal? She just came through the portal and joined us. Then she went home." Warriors' voice shook, as he spoke. still stiff and uncomfortable.
Wild frowns at Legend, crossing their arms. They hadn't caught nearly any of the conversation and was trying to piece the story together. "Leg, what's wrong? You're so fuckin' loud, like, the Gorons on Death Mountain can probably hear you."
Legend glares harshly at Wild.
"WARRIORS KNEW MARIN, THAT'S WHAT!" His voice cracks terribly, and one of the tears fall.
"Why are you yelling at me about it?" Warriors asked, his fingers starting to tremble. Legend was raising his voice higher and higher, and it was making Warriors' ears go back. Legend's ears were down and back clearly very upset and no one knew what for.
"You don't understand." Legend's voice breaks in a way that sounds final, like his voice isn't coming back to the same snark it usually possesses. It stays trembly and upset. Vulnerable. His breath catches on what suspiciously sounds like a sob.
"Maybe explain it then!" Wild says, with a good deal of sarcasm. Warriors responded at the same time with a soft, "I don't."
Twilight came into the clearing, surprised at the shouting, he'd been out patrolling. Just to make sure they were completely safe, having a couple people injured. Hyrule, who was passed out cold due to heavy magic exhaustion. He still smelled like blood. And Sky, who had a broken shoulder. He refused to rest it and broke it worse.
Wind was vaguely talking about a bird friend he had, who was a girl, and who could fly but she looked like him, almost human. He was leaned up against Four now, nearly dozing as he told his stories. Time watched, not intervening. His boys could work out their own troubles. He didn't need to get involved. Everyone else around didn't dare add onto the conversation, in fear of being yelled at by Legend or making everything worse.
"I leave for five damn minutes, and now 'vryone is yellin'." Twilight says with no fondness, moving to Wild.
"I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU KNOW HER AND YOU SHOULDN'T KNOW HER BECAUSE SHE WASN'T FUCKING REAL." Legend's voice has a rasp to it, from the shouting.
"I... I don't know what to tell you? She went home." Wars whispered.
Wild frowned. "Well, that's a little scary. She wasn't real?"
Legend looked down at his feet, hands losing their steel grip on Warriors' tunic very suddenly. Legend began to wring his wrists. "She wasn't real." His voice was very, very small. He sounded so heartbroken. Almost like a child, who'd lost something so important to them. Fuck, Legend was only what, seventeen? Eighteen? Twenty at most? He was still a kid. Still young enough to be one.
"I'm c-confused." Wars said, moving back from Legend's touch just fast enough to be worrying. He started rubbing the side of his neck.
"She wasn't real. She was a dream, she isn't real. Wasn't." Legend whispered, almost to himself. Warriors murmured something about Marin summoning a fish.
Twilight whispered to Wild, not quite catching the whole plot of the argument. "So why, pray tell, 're they arguin' now? All 'm gettin' is that they're fightin' over some... fish?"
"I don't really know." Wild responded, watching Legend pull at his own hair and try desperately not to cry. "Wars was talking about someone that appeared from a portal in the war, and apparently Legend knew her? But she was a dream?"
"Ahh, okay. So they're fightin' over a girl."
Wars broke the silence between himself and Legend. It was a rather large mistake, on his behalf. "So I'm guessing you d-don't have a good history with Miss Marin?"
Legend turned. His eyes were wide, soft around the edges with hurt. He gripped Warriors again, this time by the shoulders. "A GOOD HISTORY??" He shouted, making Warriors flinch harshly. "A GOOD HISTORY????? WARRIORS, I WAS IN A DREAM FOR OVER A YEAR OF MY LIFE, AND FELL IN LOVE WITH HER. AND THEN I WOKE UP. AND SHE WAS NEVER REAL." Legend choked on a sob, beginning to finally cry out loud. His hands softened on Warriors' shoulders, and Warriors quickly pushed them off. He couldn't take the touch of his brother right now, not like this. Legend nearly fell over. He didn't care.
Wind frowned from his spot and paused his story. He whispered a small, "Oh."
Wild looked less mad now. "That's..." Legend cut him off. "I don't fucking understand, Wars. Help me understand. Is she still out there? Could I see her again?" He was pleading now, not screaming. One of his legs shook hard enough to nearly send him to the ground.
"Legend. Leg- Link. Look at me." Warriors said, trying to hide his own discomfort for Legend's benefit. "I didn't know that. How could I have?"
Legend threw up his hands.
Wild tried to butt into the conversation with his own dream experience. "So⊠uh⊠you also sort of had something happen like that too? Where something happened and it's not supposed to be real?" Legend didn't call him out for butting in like he would usually do. He shrugged.
"Yeah, if you can call it that." He sounded defeated. Legend rubbed his eyes. Twilight was fed up with all the crying and shouting.
"Hey, Legend. Let's go take a walk, 'kay? We can go get some space. Talk about her if you want? Or jus' walk." He offered his hand.
"Yeah. Yeah, I could take a walk." Legend whispers, as if he's parroting someone. He hugs himself, knees shaking as he presses himself to Twilight's side. Twilight slings an arm over him, hugging his frame. He usually gave off such high energy, such power, conviction, confidence. Now he just looked small. Sad, defeated, upset, and destroyed. Wars had built up hope so fast and so quick just to break it down with a wrecking ball.
"Alright. C'mon, I've got you. Shh." Twilight whispered, as Legend began to sob in earnest. He led him away from the clearing.
Warriors watched with wide eyes, rattled from both the trauma dump from his brother and the yelling that had been right in his face.
Warriors had never seen Legend cry.

The Blood We Shed, It Never Dries
His hand cradled the back of his brother's head, gentle and firm and there. He whispered a curse, a prayer, a promise of love. His voice wavered, broke. He began to cry, soft at first and then louder, louder, until he was crying and sobbing and holding his brother like the most precious of treasures, the most holy of all holy things. Cradling him as of he were a child, something sacred, something to be cherished. Should be be cherished? Did he deserve it, after all this time?
His brother certainly seemed to think so, whispering how he was so sorry, he was so, so scared, and how much relief he had felt to see him alive. Alive, alive, alive.
He didn't feel alive. He felt hollow, he felt small. He was small, in his brother's arms. Something fell out of his limp hands as his brother sank to the dusty, bloody ground with him in his grasp. He didn't look at it, it didn't seem to matter. Was he alive? Did he deserve to be?
He blinked slowly, hearing his brother's sobbing through water. His head hurt. He was thirsty. He wanted to cry, but he was too tired. He wanted to wrap his arms around his brother, this man, this simple, loving, amazing man who was larger than life, who was his rock, his shelter, his home. But his arms were too small, made of lead. He couldn't even lift his head.
Was his breath getting shorter? Or was he just tired? Was it evening into sleep, or was he dying? He couldn't tell, and that made him panic. His breath sped. Good, not dying.
But once it sped, it didn't slow. His brother gave him a worried look, then a soft call of his name. A firmer hug. His breath continued to speed, gasping like a fish out of water. Maybe he was dying. Maybe this was it. Why when he realized it, was there such a profound fear? Did his friends feel this fear when they died? His eyesight was blurry- ah, there were the tears he'd been too tired to cry.
" ... 'M dyin'." He slurred quietly, chest shuddering- was it with final breaths, or sobs?
"Oh, honey. You're not dying." His brother said, with a teary laugh. "Not dying at all. You had me convinced you were going to, but you didn't. You're safe and sound right here."
He looked to the side, and could catch a glimpse of blood and a limb and someone's face, a bandanna, a boomerang, an eye - before his face was gently directed away and back to his brother's chest, holding him there, caging protecting him.
"Who-?" He croaked, bringing hands up to grasp at his brother, his rock, his lifeline. His parent.
"No one you know. Not one of us. Not Tune, not me. Not Tune, not anyone you need to worry yourself with." Names. Oh, those existed. Kokiri didn't bother with names, they only had them when Link was there.
He wasn't Kokiri anymore. And he wasn't Link.
"... T'ne's 's safe?" Mask slurred, blinking slowly, grasping a little less tight at the Captain's shirt. One hand lost its grip and fell, before Mask sluggishly tried to get it back up and latched onto the Captain again.
"He's safe." His brother easy lied, keeping this child, his child, his brother, his son, in the sweet and blissful dark. Mask didn't need to see the Sailor yet. No one did. No one would see this field but Mask and Captain Link, Mask made sure of that.
"Good." Mask whispered, eyes fluttering. He was so, so sleepy. For once, he didn't snap at the Captain for holding him so dearly. He was tired. It felt nice. Tune was safe. Where was he?
"T'ne?? Tune?" Mask whispered, mouth full of cotton, as he tried calling for his brother. Wars gave him a sad look, with both joy and grief in his eyes. Who was the joy for, and more importantly, who was the grief for? "Shhhh, dear. He won't answer right now."
Mask shuddered. There was something the Captain wasn't telling him, wasn't there. He knew that look, that crinkle in his brow. He could see early gray hairs at his right temple, and he reached to touch. His hand was covered in blood. Was it his own???
Mask startled and pulled his hand back, leaving a very small, bloody handprint on the Captain's face. He was about to whisper an apology, but Captain Link cut him off. "Shhh, shh. Shh. It's not yours, it's not mine. I've got you. How about you take a nap, hmm? I'll get you all washed up and you can sleep?"
Sleep sounded phenomenal. But there was a part of the Captain missing, it was clear. Maybe multiple parts. At least a single visible one.
"... Sc'rf?" Mask fingered the edge of Captain Link's collar, leaving blood there. "You wouldn't want to see it now. All dirty. I'll get it cleaned."
"Mom?" Mask whispered, sniffling. "Wh'r's T'ne?" He wanted his brother. Tune's hands were warm and his hair smelled like salt and his eyes were sea green. Captain's were cold, too big, gripping tight, as if afraid Mask would disappear. Tune would know what to say.
"Don't worry, honey. Just sleep, okay? Just take a nap. We can worry about it later." Treating it as if it were another bloody spot on his tunic. Mask wanted to ask more, wanted to cry, to call out for Tune again... but his eyes closed. "L've you Mom." He whispered quietly, not noticing the way The Captain looked over the destruction before him. "I love you too, Mask. Get some sleep."
The Captain laid his son, his brother, his kid down on the dusty ground and moved to his other one. The one that wasn't moving, and wouldn't. Only sixteen. A giant scarf draped over him, like a burial shroud. Warriors held a limp hand, the only part of his other kid he could bear to look at.
"I'm so, so sorry, Tune. So sorry. I love you. Mask loves you, and he's sorry. He won't know how you died. Only I will. And I'm sorry for that. But he doesn't need to kill himself to attempt to make it right. I can't lose both of you. Losing you is hell enough. I love you." And he kissed the place where Tune's forehead was supposed to be, covered by bloody cloth.
Link went back to his currently sleeping child, hands curled up, only nine, unaware of the grief and destruction around him. Link stepped on the cursed, bloody, wooden mask as he went by, cracking it clean in two and then picking up his child. It wasn't Mask's fault. It was his namesake's.
He didn't hear the god scream in pain from it's vessel being broken. Mask curled up tighter in Link's arms and started to whine, covering his ears. He could hear. Link helped cover them.
Then he carried him home.

WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST READ đđđđđ /SO VERY POSITIVE
For @elle-rosewater and @1-renegade because theyâre 4 and 6 in, and also doofuses. 100% deranged crack fic.
â
It was an uneventful watch, until it wasnât. Sky was entirely unprepared when Time lurched awake with gasp.
âMy baby,â Time croaked, clutching at his abdomen with shaking hands, sweat dripping down his face. âNo, no.â
âBaby?â Sky asked with a start, thoughts jumping to Malon. âYou have a baby?â
âThey took her,â Time answered, gaze haunted and intense. âI couldnât fight them all. I tried, butââ
âThey tookââ Sky did a double-take, trying to come to terms with this jarring new information. Time had a daughter? A baby girl? Why hadnât he said anything? âWho took her? Maybe we can help!â
âThe aliens,â Time muttered, running a hand through his hair and down his forehead. The campfire cast eerie shadows across his face.
âAliens,â Sky repeated.
âAliens.â
âLike⊠aliens?â
âAliens,â Time confirmed. He gestured with both hands like that might help. âLights on their foreheads. Wanted my milk.â
âYour milk?â Sky questioned, glancing around to see if any of the others had woken. To his surprise, they all continued to sleep, entirely oblivious.
âLactation,â Time answered decisively.
âLacâwhat?â Sky couldnât seem to close his mouth.
âIt was an ectopic pregnancy,â Time told him sadly.
âMalonâs?â
âNo. Mine.â
Sky couldnât help it; he cast a quick glance up and down Timeâs midriff. ââŠwhat.â
âShe was half-alien, I think,â Time told him him seriously.
Sky clapped his hands together in front of his own face. âWhat the fuck? What the fuck.â
Time nodded. His gaze went far away. âThe weirdest fuck.â
Sky wondered if this worldâs Hyrule had a mental health counselor. He had exactly 4.2 seconds to wonder before Warriors suddenly shrieked and leapt up from his bedroll like it was trying to kill him. This time, the others woke.
âWhaâWhaâs hapâninâ?â Twilight slurred, jumping up with one pec completely exposed by his loose sleep shirt.
âMy TEETH,â Warriors declared in anguish.
âWhatâs wrong with his teeth?â Wind asked loudly. When nobody answered immediately, he asked again, even louder, âWHATâS WRONG WITH HIS TEETH?â
âThey dissolved,â Warriors moaned in dismay.
âDid he just say his teeth dissolved?â Four asked skeptically.
âWhoa, hey,â Sky began, the only one who was truly awake, âletâs all calm down. I think you both had nightmares.â
âBoth?â Legend asked, bewildered.
âIt was an ectopic pregnancy,â Time announced solemnly. âI couldnât support an alien life.â
The crickets counted six seconds. Then the camp blew up.
âTime was PREGNANT?â Wind shrieked, just as Hyrule tripped over his own blanket in an effort to examine Warriorsâs mouth. And in doing so, Hyrule fell face first on one of Wildâs cast iron skillets, effectively cracking a tooth and busting his lip. A chunk of incisor flew through the air and smacked Warriors on the head.
âNot again!â Warriors cried, making a run for it. âI canât be gummy! I canât!â
âNo, wait,â Sky called, but it was too lateâWarriors was gone.
âWhat the HELL is happening?â Legend demanded.
The end.

August LU Write-a-Thon Round Up: 276,182 Words in One Day!
On August 1, we hosted our third monthly LU Write-a-thon! The purpose of this event was to write as many productive wordsâwords that furthered yourself, the LU writing community at large, or your own storiesâwithin 24 hours as humanly possible. We had 85 participants this round, and though we didnât quite beat our word count high score from last month (over 300,000), we got very close, and had a lot of fun along the way! You guys did great!
Until next month, hereâs the statistics of the event (made by lovely mod @zarvacase, everyone give her a HUGE round of applause), followed by the awards and titles earned by each participant, as voted upon by the Discord server through an anonymous survey, and the clubs (either self-joined or were assigned to). Enjoy, and thanks for coming!
Winnerâs Circle (Top 6 Most Wordiest)
At 16,312 words, âWriter of all Timeâ goes to @hotcheetohatredwastaken. (Cheeto here. Guys donât be like me. So many birthday fics that have to be rewritten). Additionally earned âVictim of the Cheese Cultâ because said cult figured out they could ping her by just saying the word âcheese.â
At 13,638 words, @nyastri comes in second with âWordsmith.â Amazing job!Â
At 12,482 words, âMeemawâ (@not-freyja) comes in third! Wrangling the kids and most likely currently debating to invest in more child-leashes :D

At 10,292 words, @sketchy-potato is âSerial Killerâ for spending most of the marathon on a fic that killed both Malon and Time. How dare you do this to us. Please continue.
And sharing sixth place with a four-word gap at 10,063 and 10,059 is @irenkaferalkitty and @gerudoevernight. Amazing job you two!
Clubs
This month, we also got clubs off the ground! Stay tuned for what weâll be implementing when it comes to club membership and participation in the coming months, I (Cheeto here) think that you guys will really enjoy it. But this month, the process for clubs was the same as the last monthâyou could either self-assign to a club, or your fellow participants nominated you! (Note: some of you were in multiple clubs. Mods probably assigned you to one or two in order to keep the post running smoothly. If you would like to change your primary club or you got left out of a club you'd like to be included in, let us know.)
Soap Club
For those of you that, for one reason or another, decided that soap was tasty. (Hi guys, Cheeto here. Warning you guys now: if a single one of you @âs me about actually eating soap, I will shut this club down. You cannot have your soap club and eat it too, and I will not be held responsible for tide pod challenge 2.0. Love you guys so much and Iâm delighted that youâre having fun, great power, great⊠you know the line.)
âGet Huggedâ goes to @polynomialpandemic, also âsaw and gasped aloud in delight.â
âPhil-anthropistâ for @thatbluepencilcrayon, for unintentionally creating and then wholeheartedly embracing Phil, the spirit of the master sword.
