I miss being able to be with someone and at least for even a moment believe that someone loves and cares and cherishes me just as much as I do them. As I lay here alone, I watch ASMR wanting the tingles to rush over me. I slowly realize the comfort of someone lying there next to me, holding me close and just completely enveloping their being with the love you have for each other was not the same tingles I hoped a mere video would provide. As I long for another, I feel lonelier than I had ever felt in a long time. I felt as though an extremely amazing friendship/ mutual friends with benefits with an ex whom I still loved and cared for would be enough of a deterrent from ever giving me hope that being alone wouldn’t be enough anymore. I decided a long time ago that being in a relationship would be bad until I learned to accept myself and begin to start loving and accepting my flaws. That changed into a permanent stance of believing I should be alone for the sake of my mother who I never want to let her feel alone as I once had. This new found obligation I took upon myself seemed reasonable at the time, but looking back on it in this very moment seemed suffocating. The longing that began to claw at my being is beginning to feel soul crushing. But the more I think about it and how emotional I am and how strongly I care for someone, I begin to understand and allow a fear to envelop me feeling that if I ever truly let someone into my heart and I give myself to them, I do not truly believe I will be able to handle the heart break. I think most people see broken heart syndrome as a laughable complication, but to me, as someone who would do and give up everything for the one I loved.. I take it so seriously that I avoid meeting new people all together. Because if you don’t meet anyone new, you can’t allow yourself to let them into your heart, nor would you get hurt. And despite the longing that might begin to fester deep within me for the touch and love of another, I remain as adamant as I can be that I will not allow myself to go through that pain. The promise I made to myself to take care of my mother and be there for her until the bitter end is a promise I intend to keep, even if it makes me unhappy. Because in the end, I only truly care about the happiness and well being of those I love and cherish.

And I know that will one day be the death of me.
