Evacuations begin in Bahamas as Category 4 Dorian bears down

Hurricane Dorian shut down most major resorts in the Bahamas and forced authorities to evacuate much of the northern shore and low-lying islands Saturday as the fierce Category 4 storm prepared to unleash torrents of rain but was projected to spin farther away from the coast of the Southeast U.S. next week.
Forecasters expect Dorian, which packed 150 mph (240 kph) winds, to hit the northwestern part of the Bahamas on Sunday before curving upward. The storm‘s slow march north could spare a direct hit in the U.S. but still threatens Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas with powerful winds and rising ocean water that causes potentially deadly flooding.
In the Bahamas, any remaining tourists were sent to government shelters in schools, churches and other buildings offering protection from the storm.
“My home is all battened up, and I’m preparing right now to leave in a couple of minutes. … We’re not taking no chances,” said Margaret Bassett, 55, a ferry boat driver for the Deep Water Cay resort who chose to leave her home. “They said evacuate, you have to evacuate. It’s for the best interests of the people.”
Over two or three days, the hurricane could dump as much as 4 feet (1 meter) of rain, unleash high winds and whip up an abnormal rise in sea level called storm surge, according to private meteorologist Ryan Maue and some of the most reliable computer models.

Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis warned in a nationally televised briefing that “Hurricane Dorian is a devastating, dangerous storm approaching our islands.”
Small skiffs rented by Bahamas authorities ran back and forth between outlying fishing communities and McLean’s Town, a settlement of a few dozen homes on the eastern end of Grand Bahama, about 150 miles (240 kilometers) from Florida’s Atlantic coast.
Most were coming from Sweeting Cay, a fishing town of a few hundred people that sits about 5 feet (1.5 meters) above sea level and was expected to be left completely underwater by storm surge.
Still, a few fishermen planned to ride it out, which could put them in extreme danger.
“Hoping for the best, that the storm passes and everybody is safe until we return home,” fisherman Tyrone Mitchell said. “All the ladies and children evacuated, and we have about six or seven men that (will) ride out the storm.”

The Bahamas on average faces a direct hit from a hurricane every four years. One Category 5 hurricane and seven Category 4 hurricanes have struck the Bahamas since storms were first recorded in 1851.
Construction codes require homes to have metal reinforcements for roof beams to withstand winds into the upper limits of a Category 4 hurricane, and compliance is generally tight for residents who can afford it. Poorer communities typically have wooden homes and are generally lower-lying, placing them at tremendous risk.
After walloping the islands, forecasters said the ever-strengthening Dorian was expected to dance up the Southeast coastline, staying just off the shores of Florida and Georgia on Tuesday and Wednesday before skirting South Carolina and North Carolina on Thursday.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency Saturday, mobilizing state resources to prepare for the possibility the storm could still make landfall. Trump already declared a state of emergency in Florida and authorized the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster-relief efforts.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the risk of strong winds and rising water will increase along the shores of Georgia and the Carolinas by the middle of next week.

The center also stressed that Dorian could still hit Florida. But after days of a forecast that put the state in the center of expected landfalls, the storm’s turn northeast is significant.
Carmen Segura, 32, said she had installed hurricane shutters at her house in Miami, bought extra gas and secured water and food for at least three days. She feels well prepared and less worried given the latest forecasts but still a bit uneasy given how unpredictable the storm’s expected path has been.
“Part of me still feels like: So, now what?” she said.
Millions of people in Florida have been in the changing potential path of the hurricane, and Gov. Ron DeSantis warned them not to let their guard down.
“Looking at these forecasts, a bump in one direction or the other could have really significant ramifications in terms of impact. If it bumps further east, that obviously is positive. If it bumps just a little west, than you’re looking at really, really significant impacts,” DeSantis said.

Maue, the meteorologist, said that though “the worst effects of a direct landfall are not in the forecast,” ”it’s going to be pretty scary because you’re going to have this gigantic hurricane sitting off the coast of Florida, and it’s not going to move.”
The storm upended Labor Day weekend plans. Major airlines began allowing travelers to change their reservations without fees. The big cruise lines began rerouting their ships.
Disney World and Orlando’s other resorts faced a potential risk, but they held off announcing any closings with Dorian days away and its track uncertain. Florida authorities also have not ordered immediate mass evacuations.
But some counties told residents of barrier islands, mobile homes and low-lying areas to flee beginning Sunday—though those orders could change.
Dorian was centered 415 miles (670 kilometers) east of West Palm Beach and was moving northwest at 8 mph (13 kph).

In the Bahamas, canned food and bottled water disappeared quickly from shelves and people boarded up their homes.
“We ask for God’s guidance and for God to assist us through this,” Minnis said.

So on the hottest day of the year I came to Felixstowe, Suffolk on a summers mini break to visit a close relative and the sun painted a beautiful picture postcard view this lovely traditional English seaside resort town!
Apart from tourism shipping is also large part of the  Felixstowe economy with the port being the biggest and busiest container port in the UK and is located at the mouth of both the River Stout and Orwell.
Great to see the huge container ships leaving the port on the horizon and wondering what distant countries they are bound for with their expensive cargo 🙂
Volunteer Superstar
On my tourist travels I have been lucky to meet so many parkrun event volunteer superstars that every week they give up there time just to volunteer at their event, but I think at Felixstowe our tail walker Rory Marriott has to go down as a ultra volunteer superstar with 589 roles completed from Run director to barcode scanning, 106 of them as a tourist and over a 8 years period that started at Valentines parkrun, London back in 2011, wow!!!
Rory you are a dream for a event team trying to fill their weekly roster, a credit to the whole of parkrun community and jolly decent chap to have a talk to as well, we all salute you sir!!!
Small World
I had a lovely chat to a number parkrun patrons on the day including Gary Parr from Peterborough another fellow member of the unofficial UK parkrun tourist group, but Emma Hoddy who I run with at the end like me was born in Luton and noticed I was from the town as I was wearing my apricot Luton, Wardown parkrun vest, a very small world 🙂
For the record it was Emma’s first parkrun and I hope one day if she reads this article will join us back at my beloved home event of Wardown park 🙂
Course
The course is a single lap of the promenade that starts and finishes by the distance marker next to the leisure centre and surface is entirely made up of tarmac! The run starts off in a South West direction for 1.2km and your turning point is in front of the Martello tower, once you have got back to the start/line your run 1.3KM in North East direction until you reach the final turning point and then run back to the finish funnel.
Start/finish funnel
SW direction from start
Martello tower
NE direction
In the right weather conditions this has the potential of being your of being your fastest ever parkrun time! My time was 40:15 OK for the hot weather and when I am fitness wise at present!
Points to note
Position yourself at the start where you think time wise you with finish the event as it is a bit congested to overtake for the first couple of minutes
Definitely trainers running shoes kind of course
Very slight incline towards both turning points of the course!
Facilities
There is pay and display parking at Undercliff Road West that is right next to the start, post code IP11 2AE or about half a mile away there is free parking at Garrison Lane Car Park post code IP11 7SH.
There are toilet facilities at Broadwalk cafe on the pier and is a great location for the post run coffee afterwards!
There is so much to do in the town after this parkrun, I would recommend taking a look at their visit Felixstowe tour guide and explore!
Final Verdict
I would like to thank this weeks run director Caroline Stafford and her team of volunteers for the warmest of seaside of welcomes and a great job managing the 274 strong field of running, outstanding effort guys!!!!
Tumblr media
So finally if you are looking for a flat fast course in a lovely traditional seaside town setting then Felixstowe parkrun has to be high on your to do list of touring!!!!
Best

Virgil Abloh’s Hour-Long DJ Mix Is A Real Vibe [LISTEN]
Fashion icon and visionary Virgil Abloh is bringing us a unique journey through sound with this brand new, hour long mix featuring some of his favorite tracks, from DJ Koze to Cardi B and everything in between.
The Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton Creative Director of Menswear can confidently add professional DJ to his long list of creative endeavors. When it comes to mixing, a huge factor is taste — and Virgil has plenty of it.
His newly released Solid Steel Radio Show mix, recorded live in London, features classic grooves from the likes of Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett, through UK club staples Joy Orbison and Pearson Sound, works in tracks from Travis Scott and Drake, and his own collaboration with Boys Noize, “Orvnge.” (Speaking of which, the entire Orvnge EP deserves a good listen.)
“DJing in London is always a great time,” Virgil says. “…I like to create a contemporary dialogue with the audience but also root it in vast history of the many sub-genres that makes London super unique.”
Check out the hour-long mix from the man right here. It’s definitely a vibe.

No other corner of LA is deep in as much mythology as Hollywood.
It's here that you'll find the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Capitol Records Tower, and TCL Chinese Theatre, where the hand- and footprints of entertainment deities are immortalized in concrete. Look beyond the tourist-crowded landmarks of Hollywood Blvd and you'll discover a nuanced, multifaceted neighborhood of sometimes gritty streets are punctuated by edgy galleries and boutiques, where strip malls hide swinging French bistros and where steep, sleepy lanes harbor the homes of long-gone silver-screen stars.

Evaluation
In the editorial project I chose “The Art of Stillness” and my initial idea was to have it minimal and focus on the art and stillness. At first I only wanted to play with typography and not have any images in my article but after going through my images I thought about having the title very artistic and pictures of statues to portray the stillness.  When searching for images of stillness online and asking people what comes to mind when they hear the word stillness, nature was the most popular answer. When searching through my images I also found that I have quite a few nature pictures that portray stillness perfectly so I decided to use them instead.
I find the images I used beautiful and they speak for themselves therefor I decided to have the text very consistant and accurate, so the overall feel of the article would be relaxed and easily read. I got inspired by a lot of the minimal editorial layouts I looked at, especially from fashion magazines.
In the moving image project I chose the Blackfoots coloured language story. I did not want my title sequence to show exactly what it was about, just a subtle introduction. I focused on the creation of the world and I also wanted to have the audio upbeat and the overall feel of the moving image quite friendly and happy.
I got influenced by lots of different things for this video, I feel like the title sequences for Broadwalk Empire and True Blood inspired me the most.
I feel like I managed my time quite well but there is always room for improvement. The only stress I experienced regarding time was when I found out last minute we weren’t allowed to use masking tape and I had spent so much time trying to stick them together and cutting them perfectly.  I did try my best to use double tape but it did not go so well so my final editorial piece is a mix with double tape and masking tape. In terms of my blog, I think I did a good job of keeping it up to date by constantly posting new research and useful links I found online. I was also careful of posting onto my blog immediatly after every tutorial so I would not forget any sessions.
I think I responded well to the feedback I got. I  tried every suggestion I got and fixed what needed to be fixed in both projects. In my editorial I needed to be careful and not have blocks of text and I think I fixed that quite well, I added brighter colours to the pull out quotes as well. In my title sequence my original font was not working and Rich pointed out that in the beginning of my video it had man made things in it and that did not fit with my video since it is about the creation of the world. I changed the type to something more friendly and skipped the long sunrise part in the beginning.
There are definitely ares of my design process that needs practice. I still need more practice on being able to explore more ideas further instead of just one. Better skills in Premiere and After Effects would have been beneficial since I could have done more and made my whole project a lot better.  I also need to learn how to do a better storyboard, I did not really know how to do one for my title sequence but I did try my best.
I did learn new skills in After Effects and Premiere which were useful. I actually really enjoyed editing my title sequence and I will definitely continue practicing in that area since my skills are not that great right now. I also learned screen printing and book binding skills, I really enjoyed both of those workshops and it is nice being able to make your own sketchbooks with the paper of your choice.
On reflection, the improvements I would make have more to do with my title sequence. I would have liked to have used more suitable equipment for better quality since iphone does not have the best quality.  I did not realise how short 30 seconds actually are and therefor it would have been better to have more powerful clips and perhaps more of them. Also it would have been better to spend more time editing than recording clips since I was not even able to use all of them since 30 seconds are a lot shorter than I thought. In terms of improvements on my editorial project, it would be to be better at sticking them together.

Film Review: Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Mamoru Oshii’s Masterpiece Ghost In The Shell (1995) is being re-imagined in 2017 with a live-action adaptation. But with all the backlash how does the new film stack up? Find out as our Film Critic Jordan Samuel dives into the controversial movie.
Film Review: Ghost in the Shell (2017)
In the near future, Major (Scarlett Johansson) is the first of her kind: A human saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world’s most dangerous criminals. When terrorism reaches a new level that includes the ability to hack into people’s minds and control them, Major is uniquely qualified to stop it. As she prepares to face a new enemy, Major discovers that she has been lied to: her life was not saved, it was stolen. She will stop at nothing to recover her past, find out who did this to her and stop them before they do it to others. Based on the internationally acclaimed Japanese Manga, “The Ghost in the Shell.”

The original Ghost in the Shell (1995) is a movie that made me fall in love with Japanese animation back in the day, balancing a serious tone with groundbreaking themes. Focusing on massive elements of sexuality and gender identity which led to the film being studied by various film colleges. It influenced iconic filmmakers The Wachowskis – creators of The Matrix (1999) – taking several concepts from the anime – including the digital rain sequences.
2017 sees the long awaited live-action version of the classic anime/manga Ghost in the Shell (1996) making its way into cinemas, after a long-troubled development.
But does it work in giving the series a new life?
Ghost in the Shell (2017) is one visually striking remake that does many things right, with fantastic fight sequences and a solid soundtrack. Sadly, it just doesn’t transcend above the animated classic – as it fails to connect with a solid story-line or believable characters. Relying too heavily on the prior knowledge of the franchise, a choice that might annoy people who have just stumbled across the franchise with this Hollywood version.

Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) has a great deal of respect for the franchise, and with all the controversy around the casting does his best in producing one beautiful movie. But in his effort to be faithful, he forgets to add a cohesive story-line, and pull a stand out performance from Scarlett Johansson (Captain America: Civil War).
Ghost in the Shell (2017) is a fun ride, but without the depth found in the original; this just feels like another generic revenge story. Sanders throws in changes to the characters to better explain the backstory to Western Audiences who are not familiar with the manga version, but it falls flat in impact. Turning the remake into a simple revenge tale.
Scarlet Johansson is The Major, a human modified into a cyber super-solider who literally gets to kick ass for 2-hours on screen. Now with all the casting controversy Johansson delivers a decent enough performance, filled with the intrigue and grit. I enjoyed how relentlessly Scarlet Johansson embodies The Major, balancing what’s needed to portray the veteran solider with a confused memory perfectly.
The performance will not push racial barriers, but it was never intended to do that; Scarjo is not the overwhelming issue in this version.

Game of Throne‘s actor Pilou Asbaek is Batou, who sends in commands to The Major: he doesn’t fare well in channeling the iconic manga character. Being less faithful to the animated version, this character lacks most of the original’s likeable characteristics; including his subdued personality and less aggressive approach. He emotes the physicality needed in the role, but just comes across frozen next to his co-stars.
Pilou just comes across quite unlikable in the role. I would have preferred an older, more charismatic actor as Batou instead.
Micheal Pitt (Broadwalk Empire) as the hacker Kuze steals the show; with his menacing nature working in his favour during this take on the Laughing Man – an infused version of the classic villain. Sanders’ blends various baddies in the Ghost in the Shell franchise into one entity, creating a great adversary for The Major. I did feel like a more intuitive storyline could have made his motivation work better. In the end Pitt’s Kuze was great to watch on screen.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) is not an outright success, and that lies in the underwhelming plot points, which blend many generic scenes, and in turn ignores the complex elements from source material.
Screenwriters Jamie Moss and William Wheeler, condense everything fans loved about the original manga into a revenge tale – losing its more intriguing themes. Technology and sexuality commentary are  thrown out for an overdone trope that does nothing in propelling the series forward. This wouldn’t be so bad if these twists were original, but instead Rupert Sanders relies on tried western-action cliche twists.
I enjoyed the adaption, but didn’t love how story was treated.

Ghost in The Shell (2017) action sequences are odd, in the sense that they look beautiful and expensive but lack much needed punch. The PG-13 rating is the obvious reason for this. You never get the sense The Major is any danger. Instead, the fights look totally staged, taking the intensity and brutality out of the character.
Green-screen is also used excessively, making most of Ghost in The Shell feel like it was recorded on a Paramount film lot. Better lighting would have reduced the over produced look, limiting closeups would have avoided the feel of everything being generated on a computer screen. On the other hand, The Major’s invisibility suit is a work of art. Sanders’ makes the ridiculous technology from the manga feel like real pieces of  this universe. He should be commended for adapting the unique visuals into live-action, taking chances in this regard.
Ghost in the Shell (2017) succeeds in bringing the beloved franchise into the Hollywood circles. While it’s not perfect, it will provide a good time in the cinema, as it’s filled with visual treats and a sense of  badassery for action fans.
This is the best live-action manga adaptation yet (Even though that’s not saying much)
Ghost in the Shell’s soundtrack is also a nice bonus, remixing themes from the original.
Go listen to it now!

“Knowledge is K E Y🔐”
Gathering knowledge on WHAT to put into my portfolio is my focus at the moment. My portfolio is what will represent me as an actor, I need to make sure everything I am putting into it portrays me in the most positive light and also highlights my strengths.
This week I have decided to add a section to my website with links to voice recordings of myself doing different Voice - over pieces and accents. This is a direct link to showcase my ability to perform in different accents, which is something that can lead to a versatile career when it comes to style of pieces and of course roles played.
I read an article on the importance of accent work for actors, this put the importance of showing my accent skills into perspective.
“ACTORS SHOULD BE SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED” www.stagemilk.com/accents-actors/
Another article I read on importance of an actors ability to be able to have varied accents on their Cv was an article called "BUILDING THE ICEBERG- Accents make you more employable" Buildingtheiceberg.blogspot.co.uk In this article it was great to hear from an actor why they believe it was important.
After reading the previous article, I realised during my research, the actors of the highest success have all had long careers which include roles in different accents, this made me realise this is something I need to start really training myself on, but also showcasing what I already can do.
In an interview with TheStage.com, Australian actress Pennie Downie stated “I'be been faking a British accent for so long now it’s just stuck”, this was due to the roles available in her youth, Ns also the roles that suited her style of acting and also appearance were British based, therefore it shows her ability to speak well in a British accent was a career changing skill.
Another huge example is British/Liverpool bred actor Stephen Graham. His Resume of work is coloured with different roles of different accents, this is something that has lead to more and more work and recognition for his strong ability to mimic accents. In this article I found it interesting about the different roles and countries he has now visited, due to his ability to do varied British accents and a strong American accent.

These examples encouraged my choice to ensure i make sure I have evidence of my own ability to change accents/dialects on my portfolio.

Julio Bashmore Feat. Bixby x "Kong"
Julio Bashmore Feat. Bixby x “Kong”
While Julio Bashmore‘s newest song “Kong” isn’t as thunderous as its presumed 25-foot namesake, the laid-back track still possesses a forceful and infectious allure. The British producer finds just the right tempo for Bixby’s incredibly smooth vocals, which meld with wavy synths and steady, potent percussions for one of the best songs of the week ( or is it year?).
Bashmore’s debut album is set…

Julio Bashmore - The Horn That Time Forgot Dia 013 de 352
Ah, Bashmore. One of the artists I would listen to the most when I started getting into electronic music for real. Back then, like most, I was hooked on his most famous house tracks: Au Seve, (I'm pretty sure this ought to have an accent somewhere, but this is how it's written in my library) Battle For Middle You, Ask Yourself etc. These are still really good, and his latest party bangers haven't disappointed at all (except for Peppermint, of which I'm not really too much of a fan).
However, the songs that sticked with me the most have actually been his B-Sides. These gloomy and sometimes bizarre tracks are the perfect complement to his usual stuff, and a great example of these tracks is The Horn That Time Forgot, the last track for his acclaimed Everyone Needs A Theme Tune EP. There's plenty of other amazing tracks behind the counter, like Ribble To Amazon, both Riff Wrath's songs and The Grand National, which really deserves a write-up of its own, but this is what I have for you today.
Oh, and before I forget for the (probably) fifth time, I made a YouTube playlist with all the tracks posted here in chronological order and will try to keep it up to date. I'm also switching completely to English, I don't get the point of spending so much time translating stuff since all my viewers can probably speak it well enough.
