Behind the Scenes of The Giggle - Part Six Excerpt from Benjamin Cook's DWM #597 Interview with Catherine Tate (with guest appearance by David Tennant)

"Do you know, we went to an escape room with Neil? He loves them. It was his birthday while we were here…” [ Neil Patrick Harris ] celebrated his 49th while filming Doctor Who in Bristol last month. By day, he donned the Toymaker’s tux and shimmied gleefully on the streets. By night, he took David and Catherine out to dinner, then on to Worlds Collide, Bristol’s best – and only – Doctor Who-themed escape room. Players are given 60 minutes to work out how to close a tear in the fabric of spacetime, before the Cybermen break through (the Toymaker has fought the Cybermen!!). “He’d booked it out,” says Catherine. “He’d shut down the whole place [for the night] and they let us in.” “Proper Hollywood,” says David. “Innit, though! That’s old money, that is,” she laughs. “And Jodie [Whittaker’s Doctor] turns up,” says David. “She was on a PA. As if –” “– as if she’s calling you. And there was a scarf. And a sonic screwdriver.” “And a Cyberman.” “A Cyberman head, yeah.” Aren’t Catherine and David… you know, overqualified for a Doctor Who escape room? “I was quite hopeful,” he says. “I thought, these are puzzles I’m going to be able to solve. But then–” “There were chess pieces,” says Catherine, in much the same tone of voice in which Donna once informed the Doctor that Santa’s a robot. “I mean, oh my God! Sorry, but how the hell –?” Neil was brilliant at it, though. “He was annoyingly good.” The Toymaker and his games are quite notorious. “Yes, because then he went, ‘Let’s do another one! We’re gonna do the World War Two room.’ That’s when I came to life.” “It’s true,” says David. “I loved that one. It was great. We were spies and we’d infiltrated a Nazi bunker.” “It involved a bit more role play, didn’t it? Very Toymaker. And zome outrageous ack-sents!” “But after the Doctor Who one,” says Catherine, “it was clear that Neil and David were better at it. There was a clear division between the coulds and the could-nots. So Neil and David went into one room, and me, [executive producer] Phil Collinson, and Charlie [De Melo], who plays… is it Charles Banerjee? [glimpsed in last year’s Christmas Day trailer, rushing through the rain towards Mr Emporium’s toyshop] – went in another room. I’d said to Phil and Charlie, ‘Let’s cut the deadwood and go into a room on our own.’ You do it against each other, and see who gets out first. “So me, Charlie and Phil had a right old laugh,” recalls Catherine, cracking up, “while David and Neil went off and… got out much quicker. Midway through ours, they’d already finished and were watching us scrabble around trying to get out of our German bunker.” She chuckles at the memory. “Then suddenly through the PA comes: ‘DONNAAA!!!’” David says nothing, but he looks very pleased with himself.

I'm struggling to think of a stranger evening than one, last June, doing a @bbcdoctorwho themed escape room, with The Doctor, Donna and the Toymaker. David and Neil, it turns out, are *very* good at escape rooms. The rest of us, less so. They rushed around the room, picking up clues and turning switches and all manner of other things, whilst the rest of us looked on, utterly bemused (& a little tooty in my case). So on they powered. Leaving us scratching our heads in a room full of disembodied Cybermen ones. Before confusion could give way to frustration, the tannoy crackled. It was David. They'd somehow managed to finish the entire thing whilst we all had stood still where we'd been left. Although he'd lost his lilting, melodic, Scottish brogue. He was now The Doctor. And in the Doctor's voice he began barking orders at us, talking us through the puzzles and guiding us out of whatever wibbly wobbly mess we were in and back to the safety of Bristol. "Donna! Quick! You have to get them out of there, the Cybermen are coming!"

charles didn’t know what to expect when maman had told him you were bringing your new boyfriend to family dinner. he expected someone normal, someone you might’ve met through a friend or a dating app or something.

but when one of his friends walked through the door, one hand on your waist and the other holding your mothers favorite flowers, he couldn’t help the steam almost pouring out of his ears.

on the other hand, arthur thought it was hilarious.

“you owe me twenty dollars,” arthur smirked and charles rolled his eyes.

“you knew?”

“anyone with eyeballs could tell they were into each other,” he said, “you’re just oblivious.”

you and lando made your way over to the couch, your brothers hugging and greeting you. lando stuffed his hands in his pockets, giving a tight lipped smile to a not so happy looking charles. arthur gave him a pat on the back, going to help in the kitchen.

“good luck, mate,”

lando nodded at him, mumbling a sarcastic, “yeah, thanks mate,”

“charles,” you pulled your brothers attention from your boyfriend, “can i speak with you for a second?”

he nodded, following you outside. you closed the door and sent lando a small reassuring smile. he gave you a nervous one back, silently saying ‘please don’t leave me alone in here for long’.

you looked over at your brother, “i’m sorry, we should’ve told you before we came to dinner,” you said, “but it’s new, like a few weeks old new, and we’re still trying to figure everything out,”

you took a deep breath as he stayed silent, letting you continue, “im sorry, char.”

he sighed, “yes it was a surprise, but as long as he makes you happy, amor-“

you cut him off by throwing your arms around his neck, causing him to chuckle before he hugged you back.

“s'il te fait du mal, il est mort,” (“if he hurts you, he’s dead”)

you laughed, “il ne le ferait pas.” (“he wouldn’t”)

“oh je sais qu'il est amoureux de toi depuis des années.” your brother smiled and you blushed softly. (“oh i know, he’s been in love with you for years”)

“so have i,”

“i know,” he smirked, nodding towards the door, “c’mon, better go save lover boy maman’s burning questions.”

you laughed and entered back into the living room, looking around until you saw lando in the kitchen, helping your mom chop vegetables. your brother snorted next to you, which made you let out a tiny laugh.

lando’s head snapped in your direction and he could tell the two of you were making fun of the apron that had pink and white flowers all over it.

“you two are just jealous you can’t pull this off,” he said and you laughed softly, coming to stand next to him.

“yeah, baby,” you said, “the grandma flowers really make your eyes pop.”

“thanks, honey,” he smiled sarcastically at you, nose scrunching. you let out a giggle before placing a kiss on his cheek, your hand on his shoulder.

“maman,” you said and she lifted her head up, “puis-je voler lando un peu ?” (“can i steal lando for a bit?”)

“bien sûr ma chère. charles, s'il te plaît, prends sa place,” (“of course, my dear. charles, please take his place.”)

charles groaned and lando laughed, taking the apron off and tossing it to him. you led lando out of the room, “have fun, mate!”

“yeah, yeah, whatever,” charles mumbled, tying the apron around his waist.

“elle est si heureuse, elle rayonne,” maman smiled at her eldest son, “il pourrait être le bon.” (“she’s so happy, she’s beaming. he can be the one.”)

charles smiled over at his mother, “peut-être que tu as raison, maman.” (“maybe you’re right, mom”)

“je ne le suis pas toujours ?” (“am i not always?”)

he laughed and shook his head, meanwhile you and lando were sitting on the front steps, your head on the shoulder of his black button up shirt. you looked up at him for a minute, just taking in his side profile and how well he dressed today.

“you want a picture, babe?” he smirked over at you and you rolled your eyes.

“you wish,” you said, “no, you look good, baby.”

he’d smile, eyes traveling over you in the white flowy dress, “you look even better,”

you smiled, laying your head back down on his shoulder as he pulled you closer to his side.

“this is a nice little place,” he said, looking around, “can see why you love coming back home so much.”

you nodded, lifting your head up, “yeah, but home isn’t where the heart is,”

he smiled softly, eyes meeting yours, “you and these damn taylor swift references,”

you laughed, “okay, but she’s got a point!”

“i’m not from london, baby.”

“okay, okay, fine,” you smiled, “bristol boy, better?”

“better, thank you,” his lips pressed against your temple. you shivered slightly as the wind picked up a little.

“you cold?” he asked, “i have a hoodie in the car,”

you shook your head, “it’s okay,”

“you sure?”

you nodded, slipping your hands underneath his shirt and finding his stomach. his skin warm, but he still jumped slightly at how cold your hands were. you laughed as he shook his head, “it could be a hundred degrees outside and i swear your hands would still be cold.”

“you’re just as lost about it as i am, trust me.”

he let out a laugh, ignoring how your fingers were tracing the indents in his stomach of his abs. he bent down towards you, noses bumping as he used his to lift your head up slightly before he closed the gap between you. he kissed you sweetly, lovingly, his lips moving from yours to your cheeks to pepper kisses along the skin after.

“i’m happy i drunkingly broke into your house that one night.”

he laughed, “i am, too, love. i am too.”

Athanasia going to the Manor - Jason and the Three Terrors

I started working on what will likely be the first installment of the alt-POV story I'll eventually publish. I ran out of time to finish this up and make it a full piece, so have my WIP. Once I have Attie meeting Alfred written and everything, I'll post it on AO3. I think I'm going to make another fic called "The Three Terrors and the Batfamily." or like "Bruce and the Three Terrors" or something, I haven't decided. It will be the POV of everyone not Jason, basically, and I'm totally going to write the little vignettes out of order, and I'll just post them to where they belong chronologically lmao. So like this will be chapter 1, but it won't stay that way because there's several scenes that happen earlier than this I will want to post and the fic chapters will be in chronological order. ANYWAY! Here's 1000 words of Attie being scared and going to the Manor.

Athanasia didn’t know what was happening.

Clark had taken her to his parents house, and she thought she would have to stay there until Jason got back. All by herself, without Mara or Damian or Jason. With people she never met before.

Ma and Pa Kent were nice. Pa didn’t do much with her, he was outside working on the tractor, Ma said, but Ma had her and Jon help her make ice cream.

Attie didn’t even know you could make ice cream. Jason had bought some ice cream at the store the week before, but it tasted no where near as good as the ice cream they made that afternoon. She really wanted to make ice cream again with Mara and Jason. Mara would like making ice cream.

Mara was in the hospital and wasn’t going to die, everyone promised her. Lois called her a couple hours before to tell her Mara had a surgery and the doctors said she was going to be okay, and when Mara woke up they could talk on the phone. So Attie had been sitting on the couch in the Kent’s living room, cuddling Batman as she waited for Mara to call.

But then Clark had landed on the porch and told her she was going to meet Alfred.

She didn’t want to meet Alfred. Not without Jason with her. But Clark said Jason wanted her to go to the manor to be with Alfred, because that’s where Mara was going to be when she got out of the hospital, and then they’d be there when Jason got back with Damian.

Now she was sitting in the backseat of Clark’s car, him driving and Lois sitting in the other front seat. She was by herself in the back, holding onto her backpack.

Someone had got her backpack and put some clothes and some of her toys in it. She didn’t know who did that, but Clark said Robin and Superboy had been packing up their stuff in their apartment, and keeping guard.

They drove over a giant bridge into the city of Gotham, and then through Gotham and across another bridge into the town called Bristol, where Clark said Father lived.

Attie didn’t want to meet Father. That was what she was most scared about. She didn’t want to meet Father.

But Clark assured her Bruce wasn’t there. He was in an airplane with Jason and Dick, and they were going to get Damian. It was only Alfred she had to meet.

Without her cat. She wanted to take Kitty out and hug onto her, but Damian had told her it made her look weak when she did that. So instead she had Kitty in her backpack, with her dolls and clothes in there.

She didn’t want Alfred to think she was weak, and then tell Father she was weak. Damian said Father was very strong, and he wouldn’t like weaklings.

Jason said Father was an asshole, but he’d like Attie. And she didn’t know what to believe. But she did know that Alfred was Father’s caregiver, so he would probably tell Father about her.

Attie hugged her backpack tighter, and tried to focus on all the buildings outside. Houses. Lots and lots of very large houses.

They drove down a long winding road, and Attie saw fewer and fewer houses. Right up until they pulled up to a giant iron gate, and Clark came to a stop to type a code into a keypad.

“You okay, sweetheart?” Lois asked.

She nodded.

Clark looked back at her through the mirror, as the gate in front of them opened slowly. “Are you scared,” he asked.

“I’m brave,” Attie said in response. Jason wanted her to do this, so she could do it.

“I know, you’re one of the bravest little girls I know,” Clark said with a smile. He drove the car forward, up a hill, and a castle slowly came into view.

“Mara is brave, too,” she said, as she stared at the giant house. It was made of stone just like castles, but it didn’t have any tall pointy towers. So it probably wasn’t actually a castle.

“She’s the other bravest little girl, it’s the two of you,” Clark said.

Father’s house was huge. It was bigger than their entire building in Metropolis, and lots of people lived in their building in Metropolis. She didn’t know how many people lived in Father’s house.

She wasn’t really sure how many sons Father had. Jason had said he had three sons, other than Damian, but all the pictures only showed two. And Dick didn’t mention having another brother, other than Jason.

Maybe Jason was bad at counting.

They came to a stop at the top of the hill, right in front of the entry.

Attie really wanted her Kitty, but she left it in the bag as she hugged it tightly.

Clark smiled at her one more time, then unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.

Shakily, Attie unbuckled her own seatbelt, and watched as Clark opened her door for her.

“Ready?” Clark asked, as he held his hand out.

Athanasia slid out of the car and put her backpack on, then took Clark’s hand. She looked up the stairs to the massive front door, and squeezed at Clark’s hand a little more. Lois rounded the car, as Clark shut the car door, and when she got to them, Attie reached out for her hand, too.

Even though she was brave, she was very scared.

Jason was afraid of Father. Attie didn’t know why, she didn’t know what Father did to Jason. She just knew he was really scared of him. All the photos she got of Jason with Father were happy, so she was confused.

But Father wasn’t there. It was just Alfred. And Jason wasn’t scared of Alfred.

Although, Jason didn’t talk about Alfred much.

Together, they walked up the stairs and to the front door. Clark reached out and pressed the doorbell, and he squeezed Attie’s hand back as the pretty chimes sounded on the other side of the door.

I found out that the ROH Straight Shooting interview with Punk and Joe was recorded on March the 10th 2005 at the ROH wrestling school in Bristol, PA. This was the Thursday before ROH Back to Basics in Woodbridge, Connecticut. As far as I know Joe was still a resident of Orange County and never moved to Philly like Punk did so I can only assume he stayed at Punk's place that week. Which could mean nothing.

On a side note, Punk is wearing the same outfit (white long sleeve + Lars Frederiksen t-shirt) during the shoot on Thursday as he is on a backstage pic from Saturday. I'm sure he did his laundry though, right? 😔
