DOD: 1993

Age: 31
Powers/Abilities: high resilience, playing dead, fast reflexes & movements,
Species: Human (former), supernaturally possessed teddy bear.
Status: Active
Bio:
In the streets of Detroit Michigan, there was a vicious serial killer known by many as the Brightmoor Butcher, others knew him as "Jimmy". Regardless of what name he had, at least everybody knew of his existence. With the very graphic messes he left behind in his wake, it was hard NOT to know him. Brightmoor already has enough crime & dangers on its plate & Cyrus was not helping make the case any better. He needed to be dealt with & fast. With how big the ghetto was, at least someone had to know or see something, so with that the police did some deep work searching & asking around, those that were willing to cooperate that is. Hope had started to shine through when they were pointed in the direction of a common thug just known as "Wybie". Typically associated in petty robberies & drug selling. Although some of his thefts did involve assault, Wybie has technically never killed anybody in his life. A bark & no bite street urchin. Yet apparently some of his victims have recently wound up dead. As according to some people, Wybie's been seen with another man lately. Sometimes with blood on him. After being tracked down & brought in by the police, Wybie is laid out his options & how things aren't looking too well for him especially with being an accomplice to a murderer. But they were able to strike a deal with him. They can minimize his time, give him parole & even protection if he helps them find Jimmy. Wybie not having other options (and just being an overall cowardly punk) he agreed. Starting with revealing Jimmy's full name: James V. Cyrus. Very later on, Wybie met up with Cyrus again, the latter unaware that he's now wearing a wire & currently being watched by the police. Wybie tried to act normal & unsuspicious, but Cyrus slowly started to catch on that something wasn't right. Ripping Wybie's shirt open, he confirmed his suspicion that he sold him out to the cops. Before he could attack his traitor, the cops swarmed in & chased the killer inside of a closed nearby mall. As the police split up to find him, Cyrus broke in & hid himself inside of a closed build-a-bear type store. Only to be found by one of the near cops that heard the noise. While looking inside for the killer, Jimmy ambushed the guard & attempted to kill him but during the fight, the 2 managed to get a hit on one another. Jimmy stabbing the cop & the cop shooting Jimmy. Both places being on their sides. While separated to cool off & regain energy. Jimmy states this'll be far from over for him & everybody else in Detroit & cursed him out before jumping out & lunging at the man only for Cyrus to be shot straight in the heart & die instantly. His body landing on & the stuffing machine, his blood leaking right into the stuffing. Later that morning as the place is being cleaned out, & taking in as much evidence as they can, the store's owner contacted the CEO who then orders everyone out as keeping his business going & controversial free was more important. Being a very rich man they had be rushed out. Including cleaning up & fixing the stuffing machine. Which looks clean. Until you notice the small blood soaked peace that was missed & buried under new stuffing that was soon used to create a brand new teddy bear for a little girl. Unaware of just how alive her new friend really is.

Working on a new story on WattPad!
Of Night and Day
Description:
Amalie Brightmoor is a Magi woman from Barick (Bah-Rick) in the Northern Kingdom of Krelush, she is a daughter of a successful architect and city designer. She was accepted to attend the Grimsbane University on a Returner Scholarship, she was looking to leave her high pressure homelife and took the first opportunity to leave. Amalie completes her first day of school fairly uneventfully, until a pipe bursts in her dorm room. Due to this, her living arrangements changed to an emergency dorm in the Student Leader Counsel dorm which also houses a flirtatious shifter, a stoic vampire, a free-spirited Magi. After some adjustment to living with these new housemates, Amalie starts to feel the pressure from her family to focus on her studies with the goal of joining the slew of successful architects, city designers, and magic-based engineers. Amalie must make a choice if she is going to conform to familial expectations or follow the inspirational path that her cousin had founded by becoming a story-telling bard as well as the black sheep of the family. As she is trying to figure out her path in life, she finds herself in the middle of blooming feelings for a kindred spirit that does not seem as willing to consider shirking off family expectations.
Part one below:
The first day of school is always terrifying. New people, new expectations, new routines. It always seemed so much for most people, even for me. This was different though; this was a new town far from what I have known in Barick.
I was glad to be away, but something in me ached for familiarity as I walked along the grey bricked paths through lush green lawns to my first class. The building I approached almost seemed church like, large pillars welcomed students like arms to a covered entry way that was adorned with double doors. The building stretched to the sky with a steeple like face that had a large clock that could be seen from across the campus. The slanted roof was shingled in deep green.
I found myself standing in front of the building, staring at the clock as it ticked. Reading 8:45 in the morning. My heart was in my chest as I stood planted in the walkway. People moved around me as they wandered into the building. some reading papers, some walking confidently. Not a single familiar face walked by, but I didn't expect one. It was a lonely thought, to be the only one from Barick at the Grimsbane University.
"Standing here like a tree is not only going to get in the way of everyone around you, but yourself as well. Best get moving." A voice spoke, it was deep and proper. Like the tongue was trained to speak each word with respect of the syllables.
A man then passed me. He was tall with deep, huckleberry colored hair that brushed his waist. He had a leather messenger bag had his hip. He moved with grace and purpose towards the building.
I gulped and the hair on the base of my neck stood on end. He was right, I was only getting in my own way standing here.
I took in a breath of the chilly morning air and walked forward. I pushed against the large ornate door's bass handle; a sense of excitement started to wash through me.
The door didn't budge, and my stomach dropped.
"It's a pull!" A small-framed girl popped next to me, she smiled sweetly and waited for my response.
"Thank you," I laughed nervously and pulled the door to me, it moved with ease despite how heavy it looked.
I stepped into the building and was again filled with nervousness as I looked at the tile floors and the twin staircases that lead up to landings on the second and third floors. The back of the building had large windows that looked out to trees and blue sky as a matching set of ornate doors were at the opposite side of the building.
"Do you know where you are going?" The same girl at the door had joined me at the foyer and was watching me.
"I'm sorry, I don't have the slightest clue..." my voice trembled a little.
"What class are you looking for?" She asked, her voice was gentle as she spoke with me. I turned to really look at her, she was small with a platinum bob that flared outwards at the ends. She wore heavy eyeliner, a black top with black pants and a matching jacket. When she smiled, I noticed her canine teeth looked a bit sharper than I expected.
Turning my attention away, I dug a piece of paper out of my pocket and looked at my notes for the classes of the day.
"I am looking for Intro to Potions, with Professor Kayden." I read off.
She squeaked and jumped up and down on her toes with excitement. "I'm actually headed there myself! Come with me!"
She lead me past the stairways and into a hallway tucked passed the left one.
"I'm Fiona by the way," She turned her attention back to me and her grey eyes squinted in a smile that showed her fangy teeth again.
"I'm Amalie," I smiled back.
"Are you a first year?" She asked as we approached a green door that matched the shingles outside. She held it open for me so I could enter.
"Yes," I nodded. The classroom was set up like a stadium, the desks were mounted like walls rising to the back. Students had filed in and took up some of the spaces farther, but the ones closer to the front remained free.
"First day of first year? Oof, that can be overwhelming." Fiona was casual and welcoming in her tone, she stood next to me as I looked around the class.
I started to walk towards the desks at the front of the room and I could see a glimmer off distaste in Fiona's smile as she followed.
"Do you mind if I sit with you?" She asked as she filed in behind me, "First day is always lonely,"
I agreed and she took the seat next to me. We talked for a few minutes as we waited for the class to start, people filed in and more and more seats filled up, but not many at the front of the room.
I had always preferred the front, there were less distractions than further seats. In this room, it seemed as if the students avoided them.
"Why is no one sitting up front?" I asked.
"It has to do with the teacher's assistant," Fiona mumbled and another person walked into the room.
I recognized him from before.
He was tall and slender, with the long, dusty, purple hair. He strode into the room with confidence, walking to the desk to put down the messenger bag. He wore a white shirt with a dark blue suit vest and black slacks. As I looked to at his profile as he passed me, he had a slightly hooked nose that supported his gold framed glasses.
When he placed his bag down, he turned to the board, he held his hand to the board as he walked down it, right to left. In his wake, the class information appeared.
"Pretentious," Fiona muttered as she rested her chin on her hand.
"Welcome class, this is Introduction to Potions," He walked to a podium at the front of the room. He shuffled through a few papers and looked up to the room. His voice was strong as he spoke to the room. The frames of his glasses gleamed under the light orbs; from my perch I could see deep red eyes scanning.
"I am your teaching assistant, Aleksandr Orpheus. Professor Kayden will not be joining us this morning due to a cold, so I have been asked to start the class in his stead." He announced to the room.
He then focused an intense, interested look in our direction.
"Fiona Krass, I am glad to see you front and center for a change." A purple eyebrow raised.
Fiona shot a sarcastic smile in his direction, "Just missed your warm and fuzzy nature," she said.
"Hmm..." He hummed and turned his attention back to the papers in front of him. He started the day with taking attendance and moved into introducing the syllabus, passing out papers that had been carefully produced, I assumed by the on-campus printing press that had been promoted by university staff during orientation.
Through the class, Aleksandr was fairly monotoned and authoritative as he spoke to the class. He spoke on the importance of staying on top of the course work as the term continues, gave an overview of the projects we will cover, and the overall outcome of the class.
Once the hour of his monologuing was completed, most of the class scurried out. I had some time before my next class, that I took my time to gather my things. Fiona was anxiously shifting her weight from foot-to-foot waiting.
"You don't have to wait on me," I smiled.
"Do you know where you are going next?" Fiona asked as she took a step back.
"I know it is in the training complex," I said as I slung my bag on to my back.
"Okay, that isn't too far, meet me at the Student Union Building and we will do lunch together." Fiona smiled and waved as she walked off.
"Glad to see you didn't get in your own way, tree." Aleksandr spoke, his voice commanding the room despite it was just us.
I stiffened at his acknowledgement of me. I turned to look at him as he was replacing his messenger back on his shoulder. His burgundy eyes moved over me as I watch him in turn.
"Don't be late for your next class," He said and walked out of the room as people started to funnel in. As he exited, people cleared a wide path for him like fish avoiding a shark.

Horror Film Review: Barbarian
Subgenre: Thriller
Gore Level: Moderate
Barbarian is a 2022 horror thriller written and directed by Zach Cregger and starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long. It tells the story of a woman who checks into an AirBnb late at night to discover it has been double booked by a male occupant – and she soon comes to learn that the seemingly-normal looking house harbors a horrifying secret.
I’m not easily rattled, which is probably one of the reasons I enjoy horror films so much. But Barbarian is one of those rare films that manages to unnerve me: it’s a horror movie that takes a very, very real issue and creates a scenario that is not entirely inconceivable. And it does it terrifyingly well.
In a Nutshell (Spoilers):
Tess Marshall arrives at an AirBnb she has booked in the Brightmoor neighborhood of Detroit late at night on the eve of a dream job interview. To her surprise, the rental has already been reserved by a man named Keith. Tess is initially unsettled, but warms up to Keith the more they talk. She later awakens in the middle of the night to find her bedroom door open. Shaken, she confronts Keith, but he is sleeping and assures her that he did not touch her door.
Tess’s job interview goes well the following morning, but the interviewer warns her not to stay in Brightmoor. When she returns to the house, she is chased by a homeless man who frantically shouts at her to leave the area. Searching the house for Keith, she accidentally locks herself in the basement where she discovers a hidden corridor with a windowless room that contains a blood stained mattress, a camera, a bucket, and a bloody handprint on the wall.
Keith returns to the house and frees Tess before investigating the corridor. When he has been gone for some time, Tess follows him and discovers that the corridor leads to an ominous subterranean tunnel beneath the house. She finds an injured Keith and as the two argue about where to go, they are attacked by a naked and deformed woman (credited as “The Mother”) who violently kills Keith by bashing his head against the wall.
Two weeks later, the house’s owner AJ Gilbride is fired from the set of a popular television series following allegations of rape from a co-star (which is later confirmed to be true in a conversation with his friend). Forced to sell assets to cover his legal costs, he travels to Detroit to assess the house before selling it. He finds the secret tunnel and tries to measure it to add to the square footage of the house listing (believing it will increase the sale value) when he is attacked and placed into a hole by The Mother, where he meets Tess. Tess explains that The Mother wants them to act as her “babies.”
A chilling flashback sequence to the 1980s reveals that the house’s original owner, a man named Frank, was a serial rapist who imprisoned his victims in the underground tunnel, where he also raped the resulting offspring.
Back in the present, The Mother takes AJ out of the hole and forcibly breastfeeds him. Tess manages to escape the tunnel and flee the house with the assistance of Andre, the homeless man who had tried to warn her to leave. He tells her that The Mother will come looking for her after dark, but that they will be safe in his camp underneath the nearby water tower.
Meanwhile, AJ finds a room in the tunnel that The Mother will not approach. He finds an elderly bedridden Frank who he initially believes to be one of The Mother’s victims until he discovers videotapes of Frank’s crimes. Frank shoots himself in the head with a revolver.
Tess goes to the police, who dismiss her story. She then breaks into the house to retrieve her car keys and rams The Mother with her car, apparently killing her. She returns to the tunnel to rescue AJ. Believing the approaching footsteps to be The Mother, AJ mistakenly (non-fatally) shoots Tess with Frank’s gun. The two of them flee the house and, finding no trace of The Mother, take shelter at the water tower with Andre.
Andre explains that The Mother is the result of Frank’s multigenerational incest with his victims. The Mother appears and kills Andre before chasing Tess and AJ up the water tower. AJ loses his gun and throws Tess off the tower to save himself, but The Mother breaks her fall. Believing The Mother to be dead, AJ finds Tess is still alive and tries to rationalize his actions. The Mother revives and kills him, but when she tries to comfort Tess, Tess remorsefully shoots her with the gun. The film ends with Tess limping away as the sun rises.
The WOW:
– I LOVED that we get the big plot twist midway through the story and that it allows the viewer to pivot smoothly and hold their attention into the second half of the film. The “Act I/Act II” structure reads almost like a stage play and is rather unique, as opposed to most films where the surprise is revealed close to the end of the narrative. The pacing in both acts was perfect and didn’t feel rushed or too slow. – I really liked the way that writers handled Keith’s character. He’s awkward and a little pushy at the beginning of the story and Tess is understandably wary of him, though he ultimately turns out to be harmless. As a woman, I cannot tell you how many times in my life I have found myself in off-putting situations with men where it was hard to parse out “Is this guy up to no good, or is he just a little awkward?” Women often want to give men the benefit of the doubt, but we also know that doing so can have terrible consequences if we aren’t careful; Ted Bundy once said in an interview after his capture that it was easy to lure in his female victims because they were afraid to be impolite. I once had a conversation with a female friend who made the comment “Sometimes I hate being a woman. You just can’t take any risks, and sometimes it makes you look like a raging asshole.” Keith and Tess’s interactions felt very realistic and honestly, I kind of felt for both of them: women know that we are always in potential danger when we’re alone with men, and on the other side of the coin, men who are genuine often have their intentions and character questioned even when they don’t mean any harm. It’s a perfect example of how gender-based violence harms everyone, to one degree or another. – During the scene where The Mother forcibly breastfeeds AJ, there is an old VHS tape playing on a TV in the tunnel that shows instructions and a demonstration of proper breastfeeding. I thought it was a very powerful juxtaposition: what should be a very natural and tender bonding practice for a parent and infant has been perverted into something dark and violent, all because of one twisted man’s generational acts of sexual violence. Unfortunately, that’s true of a lot of things in real life because of the way sexual predators groom and manipulate their victims. The scene is a powerful visual reminder of that.
– This might be odd to include on my list of “likes,” but I’m glad they included it in the film: during the flashback sequence where we learn about Frank’s crimes, we see him stalk an unsuspecting woman on her way home from the grocery store and pretend to be a maintenance worker in order to enter her home. Once inside, he unlocks a window in the bathroom with the intention of coming back later to abduct the woman. It gave me full-body chills because I know someone IRL who this happened to: a maintenance worker at her apartment complex unlocked a window on her first floor unit during a routine inspection, returned later that night, and sexually assaulted her. (For that reason, I always check to make sure all of my doors and windows are locked after any strangers enter my home. Call me paranoid if you must, but I would like to stay alive and in one piece.) It’s those small details that make Barbarian so terrifying – these are real things that happen to real people. They could even happen to you or me. – The ending really got me because it was just so…well, human. The Mother is not really evil; she is, as Andre puts it, “a copy of a copy of a copy” of generations of women who had their lives and bodies stolen from them by the same monster. All she has ever known is isolation, violence, and pain. She simply wants something to love, and violence is the only way she knows how to get it. Tess recognizes this too, which is why she is remorseful when she kills The Mother even though it was necessary to save herself. The real villain of the story is Frank, and The Mother is arguably the most pitiable victim of all.
The Meh:
– I would have also liked to know something about Andre’s backstory and how he knew what was going on inside the house. – I thought it was a bit odd that a modestly wealthy man like AJ would buy an investment property in a blighted neighborhood (even Tess’s potential employer warns her not to stay in Brightmoor). Gentrification is a very real thing of course, but it seemed to be the only “nice” house in the entire neighborhood. It made me wonder how he acquired the house in the first place. Did he buy it, and if so, why? Did he inherit it? Who from, and who did the property pass to after Frank retired to the tunnel beneath the house? – Don’t cancel me for this one, please: I had really, really hoped that AJ would get a redemption arc. He came so very close: he is visibly shaken and sickened when he sees video evidence of Frank’s vicious crimes, but later has a moment where he realizes that he, too, has transgressed and the two of them are cut from the same cloth. At the watertower, he muses: “I hurt somebody. That matters. Maybe I’m a bad person, or maybe I'm a good person who did a bad thing. I can’t change what I’ve done. All I can do is try and fix it. And I’m gonna fix it.” But all of that unravels in a second when he sacrifices Tess to save himself, then selfishly tries to justify it before he is killed. I honestly think that the conclusion would have been a lot more powerful and satisfying if AJ had managed to redeem himself by teaming up with Tess and making an effort to right the wrong he committed. I do believe that there are some truly evil people in the world and some transgressions that only the Divine can forgive, but I also believe that most people are capable of change. And I would have really loved to see that play out in this film. In that aspect, I was disappointed with the ending.
Final Thoughts:
I think Barbarian is the perfect title for this film. Obviously, Frank and AJ are barbarous in the way that they treat women as objects whose bodies and lives exist solely for their own pleasure. But it also invites the audience to reflect on our society as a whole: barbarous things go on in seemingly normal looking neighborhoods, normal looking houses and seemingly safe communities all the time, every day. Chris Watts was an Average Joe who appeared to be an upstanding family man before he murdered his pregnant wife and toddler daughters. Ted Bundy had friends who ate lunch with him in the office break room every day. John Wayne Gacy infamously dressed as a clown and performed at children’s birthday parties. Jane Toppan was a celebrated nurse who appeared to love and care about her patients. Georgia Tann trafficked children from poor rural families and sold them to wealthy couples under the guise of running a legitimate children’s home. Bill Cosby was a beloved comedian with a wholesome, family-friendly image. Domestic violence and child abuse are an epidemic in our world, and in almost every case when a person is victimized, the perpetrator is someone they know and trust.
When we zoom out and look at this larger, ugly picture, it’s hard not to feel hopeless and helpless, and it’s easy to get complacent and numb. But it’s also vital to remember that we owe it to each other to look out for each other. Trust your intuition. If something looks or feels wrong, speak up. You could be wrong, but you might save a life – including your own.

Taste of Venom : The Devil in Disguise
~
Ed and Draven sat in Makayla’s art room, paintings or sketches covered the three of the walls, the last wall was all windows that looked out to the expansive backyard. Rio was watching Renee just below them, helping her fill up water balloons in an attempt to beat the hot summer heat.
Since hearing of my dream, Edward couldn’t get it or you out of his head. He refused to believe you died. No, you were lost. Lost at sea, or lost in another country but you'd come back to him...eventually. But when I had my dream, he felt his heart stop. He heard some whispering about me from the maids in the mansion or some throwaway comments from Negan or Simon about my connection with witchcraft and the odd dreams I had. He finally asked Draven about the dreams and he felt his heart sink when she told him, those dreams come true. He tried to ignore it but the tugging in his mind refused and Negan would let anyone talk to me and he didn't really want to tell Draven. Her questions were enough to start to question him and when he wouldn't answer she followed him to Makayla. Who else was as connected to possible witchcraft then Makayla? Draven insisted she go with him - to keep him from doing anything stupid and he was grateful for that. He could handle gangs and killers but possible black magic - he was scared.
"What about her dreams?" Ed asked looking down at his hands. His anxiety was at an all-time high.
“Her dreams don’t always come true.” Makayla admitted looking at her niece running and laughing in the lush green grass. Ed relaxed slightly.
“But you saw it too.” Ed said pulling out a cigarette. He offered one to Draven, she accepted and then one to Makayla. She shook her head. “Shit, can I smoke in here?” She nodded going to open the window. She handed them both a lighter once they puffed a few clouds she spoke.
“I did- but that’s doesn’t mean anything.” Makayla shrugged. "I dream a lot. It could be symbolic for all I know."
There was a few moments of silence until Ed asked. “What about the witch women?”
“No," Makayla quickly shook her head, clearly it was a sore spot. "I don’t go to them.”
“Why?” Draven cocked an eyebrow. “Who are they?"
“They do Voodoo but they practice It’s black magic. Blood magic. Its a family in... brightmoore. The grandmother did the ritual the only time I went there.” Makayla said candidly. “She only brought me there once when she was trying to find Harley but” she shook her head. “They took us to the basement, burned these herbs that are supposed to weaken the barrier between us and the other side. They were chanting and saying prayers in French or Latin. I’m not sure. Then they gave her some bloody thing from an animal and asked her to eat it.”
“What?” Draven grimaced and Ed recoiled a bit. Makayla nodded.
“It looked like a mash of brains or something." She ran her hands through her hair. "I couldn't eat it. It was-" she made a face. They had me stand to the side and beat on a drum. "They chanted over it and when she ate it, they cut her palm open and poured it in a cup. I wasn’t sure what else they put in it but she passed out - I was freaking out but the granddaughter, Tatianna, she calmed me down. After about an hour, Kay woke up but her eyes were red - like bloodshot and her skin really pale. She looked really sick but she said she saw her mother. A couple of days later she went down to Mexico and found her.”
“Damn.” Draven said recalling the memory of me coming home with Makayla holding me up. I had claimed I had gotten food poisoning but the way Makayla acted always threw her off. “I remember that.”
“Yeah.” Makayla nodded holding her arms close to her. “After that her dreams became more frequent.”
“She saw her mother?” Ed asked leaning forward. “How?” Makayla shrugged. Could that work for him?
“It’s real dark. I felt so sick and nauseous plus they don’t tell you anything- it’s scary and I asked her not to do it again." She twisted her bracelets on her wrists. "You don’t understand how close to death she looked.” She shivered “I brought her back to the house hours later. I was so scared she was going to die, she passed out in the car three times I almost took her to the hospital but everytime I tried - she woke up and told me not too.“ she sighed and picked fuzz off her skirt. “Why? Did she do it again?”
Before Draven could answer Edward interrupted her. “Yeah, and Negan is pissed. He needs someone to answer for it. I figure if we know who did it maybe they could help her.”
“Oh jeez.” Makayla shifted running her hand through her hair. “How bad is it?”
“She’s been locked in her room for a couple of days now.” Draven said eyeing Edward before putting in a performance for Makayla. She’d question Ed about it in the car. “It’s a long shot but we figure if anyone knows. It would be you.” Makayla sighed deep in thought.
“Just an address, Mick” Ed said softly “they won’t know you said anything. No one will.”
Makayla sighed and took a nearby pencil and paper from her sketch pad, scribbling down an address about 35 minutes away. "Her name is Marie Prudence. I'm pretty sure this is her address but if not, ask about her... everyone there knows her."
~
They found Marie fairly quickly, pulling up to the white dilapidated house. "What do you plan on gaining here?" Draven asked grabbed Ed before he could get out of the car. "Whats the plan?"
"You didn't have to come, Dre." He said looking at the house.
"I want to know what the plan is?" Draven said and Ed smiled at her shrugging. She rolled her eyes and they both got out from the car making their way to the door.
~
At first Ed, didn't believe Marie or her family. The old woman took a liking to Draven instantly whispering something to her about a deceased boyfriend wanting to talk with her. He wanted to say it was fake, until Marie told Draven 'he wants you to know, that he loves that you're still wearing the bracelet he gave you.' Now, she had a meeting to explore this further with Marie. When Edward privately brought up his inquiry to Marie, she refused.
"Why?" He asked but the old woman shook her head.
"No! I cannot find her!" She shook her head.
"Please - I can't." he ran his hands through his long hair, clearly stressed out. "I don't have anyone else to help-"
"I'm sorry boy but" The old woman shook her head, waving her long finger in his face. "- the energy around is too dark. I cannot help you and I suggest you stay away from it for your own good." They were rushed out shortly after that. Draven rushed to the car to make a phone call, leaving Edward walking towards the car deep in thought puffing on a cigarette.
"Wait!" A voice caught his attention and he turned around. He noticed the girl in the house just moments before. Marie introduced her as Tatianna, her granddaughter and while she stayed mostly quiet throughout their interactions he knew she was listening carefully. "I can help you." Edward cocked an eyebrow looking her over. "My grandmother might not want to do it but I can."
Ed snorted. "You can do it, but she can't?"
"My grandmother is good at what she does but she doesn't like to go out of her comfort zone. I can."
"You can help me find someone?" Ed asked and she nodded, the gold jewelry she was wearing jingled as she moved. "When?"
"I can do it tonight." She said and Ed nodded. "Not here." she handed him a piece of paper with an address written hastily on it. "Bring something that you have of the person you want to find, a piece of silver and $20,000."
"$20,000?!" Edward said making a face.
Tatianna chuckled "Yeah, I don't do this for free." He looked down at the address and nodded. "Meet me there at 11 remember to bring it all and don't have plans for tomorrow. You won't make it."
~ ~ ~ ~
"Just relax." Tatianna whispered to Ed, running her fingers over his bare chest. The crimson liquid cold on his skin as he tried to relax. He shivered under he touch or maybe it was the fact he was nude, save for a silk red blanket strewn over his waist. Fae, a blonde with massive lip filler, Tatianna introduced as her girl carefully poured salt around him in a circle. "I need you to pay attention to me." Tatianna said, Ed turning his attention to her. "Keep yourself inside the circle. Do not leave it! No matter what." She stuffed the watch you gave him just a few months before you went missing. "If someone asks for it, do not give it to them. Give me your hand." He obeyed and she took out her blade, slicing into his palm. He hissed but squeezed his fist the blood dripping into a cup swirling with black liquid. "Ready?" Edward sucked in a breath, nervousness filling his body, but nodded. She pressed the cups to his lips and he took a gulp of the sour liquid. Fae laughed at his face and Tatianna smirked. Both woman took a drink of the liquid and started to undress. Edward stared up at the ceiling, you being the only girl on the forefront of his mind.
"I'm done." Fae said and Tatianna stood up. They stepped away and Edward looked around him. Candles smoked all around him, in the shape of a star. Tatianna handed face the cup and placed on a black hood with two cuts in it for her eyes, Fae did the same, the only clothing on their naked bodies. Edward looked up at the ceiling breathing out carefully as the girls began to chant around him.
He closed his eyes trying to steady his anxiety. The symbols on his body started to heat and the candles around him flickered wildly. He gasped feeling the heat of the candle intensify and he felt the flame start to lick at his body. The symbol on his chest burned and he grunted in pain, his muscles tightening as his eyes shot open. He turned toward the side, no longer seeing the girls, but hearing their soft chanting - no longer seeing anything. Just the yellow flames of the candles around him. They pricked and nipped at his skin and he yelped felling the intense heat of the symbol burning into his flesh. He screamed the pain making his hands shake and he looked down at the white circle around him, forcing himself to remember Tatiannas warning not to cross it. No matter what.
The candles blew out, instantly freezing the room. He let out a breath, seeing the white of his breath in the darkness. He no longer heard the girls and called out to them. "Tatianna?" He waited for a few moments. "Fae?" Suddenly the candles re-lit but the heat did not return with the light. Instead, Edward felt his heart pounding in his ears as he saw he was now a room alone. it wasn't the same room, well it was decorated the same but the walls were different. Stone paved the walls and floor and it smelled of fire and brimstone, a movement on the wall caught his eye.
A crucifix, Fae had placed on the wall slowly turned clockwise until it was upside down and he looked around quickly feeling like someone was watching him. He quickly stood up looking around at he room, shadows dancing along the walls from the flickering candle flames.
"Edward." He quickly turned around hearing the love of his life's voice. "Eddie!"
"Adi?!" He called out looking all around him. "Adi? Where are you?!" He heard the desperate strain in his voice.
"I'm here, Eddie." She called out to him. It echoed around him and he spotted her by the door. His voice caught in his throat and he felt tears sting his eyes seeing her. She smiled at him and slowly walked toward him stopping just a few feet from the circle of salt. She held out her arms for a hug. He stepped forward until the front of his food crunched the salt and he stepped back, Tatianna's words echoing in his head. Don't step out the circle, no matter what. She pouted. "Don't you miss me, Edward?"
"More than anything." his breath was shaky. The lump in his throat making it hard to breathe and speak. "Where are you, mama?" He blinked back the tears. "Where can I find you?" She shrugged sitting on a chair. Ed frowned trying to reach out for her but she was too far. "Adi! Please tell me!
"You can't find me." She stated simply shrugging as though it were some big joke. "Now, come sit with me." She patted the spot next to her.
"No!" He shouted frustrated. "No! I need to find you!"
"Why?" she walked over to him stopping just outside the circle. "You want to save me? You wouldn't save me before I disappeared. What makes you think you can save me now?"
"I can. I will! I promise you!" He said reaching out for her but she dodged his grasp, giggling.
"How?"
"Tell me where you are! I'll find you! I can! I'll take the jet or a boat or anything! I'll do anything to find you just tell me where the fuck you are!" He shouted and she looked at him with wide eyes and suddenly turned towards the door.
"I hope you mean that." she said sadly and moved towards the door. He saw her bow to someone and heard the deep footsteps. The candles went out again but the footsteps neared him. Heavy but calm stomps, not rushing to him walking with an eerie confidence. The room temperature went from ice cold to boiling hot. Sweat forming on his brow. The drops beading down his body while he waited in wide eyed anticipation. He felt the presence just in front of him. It wasn't playful or familiar like hers was. This was cold, foreign and frightening.
The candles flickered on and Edward jumped back. Standing before him was a man. He was distinguished, with dark black hair and blue yes so bright they priced right into his soul. He was tall, taller then Edward and stood in a casual black suit. His aura reeked of power so grand it was suffocating. For a moment they stood in silence.
"Who are you?" Edward asked, breathing heavily. The air around him was oppressing, as though someone was sitting on his chest. "Why are you here?"
"You called, I came." He said simply, his eyes not leaving Edwards and no matter how much he wanted to he couldn't look away.
"Who are you?" Ed asked.
"You know who I am." He pointed at the symbol painted on Edwards chest. "That is my symbol." He glanced back at the door. "Did you like my surprise to you?" Ed saw her again, peeking out from the door. Ed felt his heart sink.
"Do you have her?" He growled and Lucifer looked at him with a smirk.
"You'll be happy to hear, young Arianna, is not here. not with me."
He breath a sigh of relief. "Wait! Do you know where she is?"
"Yes."
Edward paused for him to continue but when he didn't he asked. "Where? What happened to her?"
"She was lost in the ocean." Edward let out a shaky breath, his head swirling and he stumbled back. "But someone found her and helped her."
"Where is she now?!"
"You told her your willing to do anything to find her." he smirked "Is that true?" Edward stared up at him, hearing his heartbeat in his ears. The tension hung in the air while Edward debated on how to react.
"Yes."
The man smiled and stepped back, He put out his hand. "I can help you find her. I can make you strong enough to do it yourself. I can give you things others don't have. To permanently keep her safe. With you."
"What do you want?" He asked carefully.
"Your loyalty and your servitude."
"I can't-"
Lucifer shrugged "I understand. Its not for everyone." he looked around calling her over. She stepped next to him, Edwards heart aching deeply as he saw her. "Say goodbye, sweetheart. This might be the last time he sees you."
Edward reached for her but Lucifer shook his head, taking her by her shoulder and walking towards the door. "Wait!"
~
The room swirled in a thick smoke, black enough for the girls to choke on their words, coughing on the heavy smoke. In a panic, Fae ran to the window throwing it open, the smoke pouring out of the room and into the night sky. She pulled off her black hood seeing Tatianna was on the floor, bent over coughing her lungs out. Fae quickly tore the girls hood off her head gasping when she saw the blood leaking out of her eyes, nose and mouth. "Tati!"
Tatianna looked with wide eyes at her girlfriend, gripping her hand tightly. Then her eyes moved towards the circle Edwards body was in. His eyes were closed and the symbols on his skin still perfectly painted on him. She sighed in relief and smiled at Fae. That was until she heard the sickening sound of sizzling coming from the mans body.
The circle of salt once connected into a perfect circle, was dusted away in one spot and in an instant. Edwards body sparked and ignited in a blue fire, his body peeling away in ash. Fae screamed and Tatianna rushed to the sat attempting to quickly fill the circle that was until as soon as she touched it - her and face went flying into the wall. Both hitting there head hard and blacking out.

It wasn't praise but it was close enough to it; this was how Viktor liked it, tethered to the other by some thread that neither would ever admit to but both could feel. He was cemented to the hollowborn and there wasn't much of anything that could be done that would drag Viktor away from him. "Promise?" Viktor whispered, voice still shaking as he craned his neck enough for the other to get a clean sweep of his throat if he needed it. "Well, there was Pazazu," Viktor drawled, feigning some sort of focus though there wasn't really anything that Harellan could ask him that the nephilim wouldn't be on top of. "Tobin," he added, "the babysitter murders, and then the brightmoor was the neighbourhood that Tess booked." Viktor smiled against Harellan's knife, "Loved that movie, but, you know my favourite: we're in it, Scream. The first one, obviously."
Harellan watched the other's tongue drift across the shadowed knife, smirk still firmly placed upon his lips. He did so very much miss that mouth when they weren't near each other. The hollowborn had made a promise though. Viktor had asked him to never leave and he couldn't just leave his favorite toy unattended. That would just be disrespectful. Maybe more disrespectful was the fact that he kept calling Viktor his toy and not his boyfriend when it was so clearly the latter. Couldn't it be both though? He liked that idea much more. Anyway, he tapped the knife to the other's lips again. "Ding. Ding." He paused. "Maybe I am. It might just get you next." There was a tremble in Viktor's voice. Damn, he was really selling this shit. Good. He would've hated for it to be half-assed. That would be no fun. "Oh, no no no. We have the rapid fire round this time. Answer quickly or...well, you know what the threat was. I don't need to repeat myself." He cleared his throat as he pushed Viktor down to be flat on his back as he straddled the nephilim. "Name of the demon that possesses Regan in The Exorcist? Name of the boy Becky and Cal try to help in In The Tall Grass? What was Halloween originally going to be called? Rental house that Tess books in Barbarian? And..." He smiled again beneath the mask. "What's your favorite scary movie? Only one correct answer."

Taste of Venom : The Ball
~~ ~~ ~~ ~~
I managed to slip in fairly unnoticed into the ornate party. Everyone was dressed in ball gowns or elaborate suits with equally baroque masks. Music played loudly and waiters went from table to table or person to person with food or drinks. Guards surrounded the perimeter making sure those who were guests to the house didn't wander off into the house.
I was sort of grateful people didn't immediately recognize me due to the masks so it gave me a second to grab a drink and think over Papa Legba's word. 'Half Alive.' How can someone be half alive? Were you hurt and almost dead? Where were you? Marthas words echoed in my head. She had found out I went to go see the 'witch woman' as she called them. She was busy cooking when I told her making her promise not to tell Negan. He wouldn't believe in it or worse would insist in coming. 'Don't believe in those witch woman. Nothing good comes from asking about the dark arts'. Her words fought with the words Papa said to me. I was so deep in thought that I jumped when I felt hands pan my waist.
"Where'd you go today?" Negan's voice whispered in my ear, the smell of perfume lingering on him. Seemed to happen a lot lately. He placed a small peck on my cheek and eyed what I was drinking. "I didn't see you at all today." Before I could lie I eyed his face through his mask. "You didn't go to the salon or Arianna's grave. The car says you went to brightmoore. Why?"
I turned to fully look at him "You're still tracking me?" I scoffed "I thought we were way past that."
"Theres nothing in brightmoore but fucking bums and fucking dealers. Your eyes aren't dilated and the shoes on your feet are worth more than those fucks have seen in their life. Why were you there?" He sighed "Talking with the witch women?" My eyes widened and he put up his hand so I wouldn't interrupt him. "I know you miss her, but it has been three fucking years, princess. I see your fucking life being paused because of her death. You said it yourself- shes dead, you know it and I know it. Let Shawn and Edward be lost in their fucking delusions and hopes - you and I know the truth. Its time you move on." He motioned around us. "I made this whole shit for you, enjoy it and enough with the fucking attitude." I rolled my eyes and he pinched my cheek under my mask. "Come on all your friends are here. I even got that bastard to let the little Russian out of the cage for you." I couldn't help but smile and he smirked at me, placing a quick kiss on my cheek.
"🌶I can't wait until we can kill him." I admitted looking around for her. He nodded and pushed me out into the party.
I sighed and moved around attempting to find Katya. It wasn't hard, even though she had been separated from me for about 2 years on and off - I recognized her blonde mop of hair despite being disguised by her baby pink mask. I threw my arms around her. "Kat!"
She hugged me back tightly wincing when I accident brushed against her ribs. Her eyes shot to V who was standing not to far away, watching. He was always watching. "How are you?" She asked, the smile on her face not quite reaching her eyes. "I missed you, I wish I could have went to breakfast this morning but-"
"Its okay." I brush it off "How are your sisters?" Katya's face always lit up when talking about her family. We stood there for a while chatting about her sisters and father, gently grazing the subject of children.
"He wants them." she sighed nursing her drink "He wants a big family..." she trailed off.
"Do you?"
She looked at me, then glanced at him and gave me a half-assed nod. "Its not like I can put it off for much longer. He always gets what he wants anyway." She looked up at the ceiling, the painted angels smiling down at her. "But then again - hearing how marcel is now... maybe it would have been the same if I stayed."
"Marcel would never hurt people he loves." I said matter of fact rubbing her back. She sighed and I looked at V, chatting with GD. "I can't say the same for him."
"What a fine man I married." She said under her breath.
"He's no man." I reminded her. "But he will get his day - very soon."
"Kat!" V called over a big smile on his face. As though trying to hide what he truly was from me. But I knew better. I grew up surrounded by monsters of different shapes and forms - hell, I even lived with one now and I was not blind to them. But I smiled back at him. "Happy birthday, kay! You look great!" I nodded at him "Can I just borrow my wife? I need to settle a bet with G."
"Sure." he took Katya by her hand and moved towards G and I moved toward the party. I mingled and danced and greeted and tried to enjoy myself but eventually I took a break in the hall. Retiring exhausted to the quiet library.
"Theres a man in the libabry." One of the guards said as I approached the wooden doors, carved with mythological figures. "Should I tell him to leave?" I thought for a moment opening the libabry door and a smile barely notable smile washed over me. I shook my head.
"I'm surprise you came." I sighed and he turned and let out a small sarcastic chuckle.
"Happy birthday." He said unenthusiasticly. "I want to talk."
"Fine." I huffed and turned to the guard. "Please make sure me and this asshole don't get interrupted for what 10 minutes."
"At least half an hour sunshine, just cause its your birthday doesn't mean we don't have to have a chat." I rolled my eyes and the guard nodded closing the door behind us.
I waited until I heard the guards moving away and I locked the door. Before turning and seeing his grimace turn into a smile. He held out his hands and I ran to him, jumping onto him and wrapping my arms around his neck. I pressed my forehead to his. "What are you doing here? I wasn't supposed to see you until tomorrow. Is did you bring Robin here too?"
"I missed you too, sunshine." He said pressing his lips to mine. "Happy Birthday." I smiled into his kiss and pressed me closer to him. "I did bring him and I told him he better stay." I sighed and untangled myself from him. Since you went missing - Robin and I had a bit of a rift. J being the cause of it - he wanted his children back with him with the promise of him helping us find you. I refused and Robin didn't - now Lloyd was practically the only bridge I had to my brother. Which brought us closer as well until a couple months Aho it crossed a line and it was still crossing that line. "I'm sorry, baby doll." He said and I nod, shrugging and sitting on the couch. "Is thats what was bothering you?" he asked "I noticed you earlier."
"No I had ... another dream." I sigh placing my mask on the table and playing with the fabric of my dress. "Adi is dead, her body is lost in the ocean and no one wants to hear it." He nodded. "Everyone argued with me this morning when I told them. No one except Makayla believed me. It was weird - Robin always believed me but not having him around..." He repeated that he believed me. I gave him a weak smile. "But now I don't have him anymore and he believes shes still alive. You know the fight made me do something- stupid today." He placed his arm around me, playing with the curls of my hair. "I went to brightmoore."
"Wait a minute... what did you just say?" He removed his hand from my hair and fully turned to me. His big blue eyes digging into mine and I thought about Papa for a moment. "You went to those women? Alone?" I nodded not looking at him. "What the hell? You know how dangerous that is, Kay. Why didn't you tell me? They rarely do things looking out for you. I told you I knew a few people."
"I don'r have time for that." I sighed. "I need to know if she is alive, I'm sick and tired of not having my brother to my friends or my sanity because of a hit some asshole put on her! We are no closer to getting answers then we were 3 years ago when she goes missing!" I kick at the table and he puts his arm around me again. I rested my head on his chest.
After a few moments I heard voices out in the hallway and shifted. He stood up, helping me up and we both put on our masks. "Thank you for coming." I smiled and he looked down at me with a smile.
"I wouldn't miss it." he smiled and I placed a small kiss on his lips before playfully pulling away and unlocking the door. "Always nice to chat Mr. Hansen." I saw pretending to hate him agin.
"You too, sunshine. Enjoy your birthday."
