I somehow accidentally managed to end up with completely different lightbulbs in every single one of the lights in my bedroom.
It’s exactly as awful as you might expect and I can’t use more the one light at once until I decide which warmth I am going to commit to.

New year, new viv!
Finally got the 4x2x2 viv set up for Ed yesterday! I want to get some more bigger branches and rocks for it, but I suppose this is a decent start. He seems to like his new basking box so far! I didn't get to watch, but he did manage to get down to his salad & back up on it, so hopefully that was done without falling. 😅 His mobility is so much better, but I'm still anxious.

Getting blinded isn't the only problem, high power halogens burn out faster and sometimes can burden your electrical system more if they are improperly engineered. On top of that, for other people it can drown out their headlamps making it necessary to go bright just to still see. That is a large part of the issue, the fact other people have LEDs or Xenons means you have to get super-brites too just to see. Also bad is that if you have two different bulbs in each side, one side is too dim and visibility on that side suffers a lot.
It also increases the cost burden of vehicle maintenance and operation for people who already don't have a lot of money. Overall the push for super-brites and LEDs has been a catastrophe.
A side note is a lot of average drivers think their lights suck when it's actually their lenses becoming aged and worn because no one actually correctly maintains their car. Most people barely change oil or tranny fluid much less polish and protect their plastic lamp lens assemblies. Which btw will wear out and become damaged faster with the super-brites if you are using halogen bulbs. LED/HIDs also generate a ton of heat in their assemblies.
So yes fuck LEDs but also a lot of dumb car owners out there are at least partly at fault and certainly not helping anything. Ignorance and laziness is no excuse when we're all zooming around in one ton steel death cubes.
Headlights are just too bright now. We gotta regulate them.
(And before anyone says it’s just an aiming problem - no. Like I apologize to the headlight aficionados clearly lusting after lighthouses, chernobyl, or the death star, but no amount of aiming is gonna fix the fact that the moment your car encounters any kind of hill, curve, or bump, my retinas are vaporized by a shade of blue-white previously known only to god. Just accept your limits and settle for a soft orange like the rest of us)

This is one of those things where the discourse is just completely broken. Both of these takes are shit and no one is concerned about the actual problem.
Republicans want to bring back incandescents because they just want to trigger the libs and have decided light bulbs are woke.
And the "LEDs are fine" crowd are throwing people with flicker sensitivities under the bus. And, no, you don't have to be "pretty far on the spectrum" to notice a difference. And even if you did... why in the world is this person so dismissive of the millions of autistic folks?
LEDs, for the most part, are superior to incandescent bulbs. Collectively they save people billions of dollars in energy costs and greatly reduce fossil fuel use. You have more options for color and brightness. You can control them with your phone. LEDs are fantastic.
Unfortunately there is a design flaw that makes LEDs hard to use for certain people. Due to AC power, most LEDs have a 60hz refresh rate. Meaning they turn off and on 60 times per second. With incandescents this didn't matter because the filament didn't have time to lose its glow between cycles.
Most people cannot see this flicker in LEDs. But there are millions of people who are sensitive to it and it can cause migraines and discomfort.
The solution is definitely not to go back to incandescents. There are flicker free LEDs and I think with some regulation we could make sure all LEDs are flicker free or at least make sure flicker free bulbs are easy to find and not priced at a premium.
Thankfully there is a group testing bulbs to find the ones that will most likely cause no discomfort. They call themselves the Flicker Alliance and their website has a pretty decent selection of tested and approved bulbs.
So if you feel like your LED bulbs might be causing you distress, that is a good resource to try. I think there is also something you can do to make sure the LED drivers are using DC power, but I haven't really looked into that.

there's also relatively affordable light bulbs that change temperatures. They're a little less expensive than the full-on color changing bulbs, last time I checked, and there are both "smart" options that use an app, and "dumb" options that have a physical switch on the bulb itself. If you can grab one of those, it can be a HUGE help to see a variety of different light temps in the actual room with you. Even just having one bulb like that, if you don't want to get fancy and use those for every light fixture, you can move it from room to room while playing with the settings, so you can decide what color temp you like in which spaces (I like cool-ish temps for things like the bathroom, but warmer temps for bedroom, and somewhere in between for kitchen) or decide on 1 temperature that works well in all your rooms so you only have to remember that number when buying/installing bulbs
There are so many different shades of white light bulbs, I am so overwhelmed walking down the light bulb aisle, and then I'm never happy with the one I choose, no matter which one I choose, I get it home and I put it in and I'm like, ugh, I don't like THAT white

12W LED Bulb: Brightness and Light
Tumblr media
LED bulb is an energy-efficient and long life light source that uses less electricity than conventional bulbs. These bulbs are available in different watts and provide bright, clear light. LED bulbs not only save electricity but also generate less heat, making them a safe and eco-friendly option.
The brightness of LED bulb is mainly measured in Lumens, which tells how much amount of light the bulb produces. More lumens means more light emitted from the bulb. Additionally, watts indicate how much energy the bulb is consuming. In conventional bulbs, more watts indicate greater energy consumption and illumination, but LED bulb provides more lumens even at lower watts, which saves electricity.
Typically, a LED bulb produces around 1000–1200 lumens of light. This light is equivalent to a 100W conventional bulb, but LED bulbs have much less power consumption. This brightness is considered suitable for medium to large rooms such as living room, kitchen or office space, where bright and clear light is required. Due to LED technology, this bulb not only saves energy but also generates less heat, making it more efficient and durable.
To learn more about 12W LED bulb's brightness, how to measure its brightness, where it can be used and its power saving feature, read this article How Bright is 12W LED?

the guy at the auto part store: i HATE it when people put after market stuff on their cars, you'll have to replace the whole assembly for your headlight, see? it's like $200. or try to get a factory assembly from a junkyard and go back to that instead, then our regular $16 bulbs will fit. sorry. maybe call the manufacturer.
