Ich werde drei ganze Wochen im September in Mannheim verbringen. Speyer und Ludwigshafen möchte ich mir im Umgebung ansehen. Was schlägst du noch vor?
Hello. I don’t know what you like but here are a few general suggestions of places to see around Mannhein:
* Ludwigshafen (Rhein) is right across the river.* Heidelberg is the most famous city nearby, it can be reached by tram/street car (40 min), regional train (15 min) or IC (10 min).* The cathedrals at Mainz and Speyer, and the cathedral and Nibelungen bridge at Worms are all about 30 minutes away.* The gardens at Schwetzingen are about 30 minutes away by regional train* Weinheim is a nice little town with the traditional red roofs and is reachable with the tram no. 5.* Ladenburg is a idyllic and historical town with traditional red roofs reachable by regional train (18 mins).* The Bertha Benz Memorial Route - Follow the tracks of the world’s first automobile journey back in 1888 (Mannheim - Pforzheim - Mannheim)
Also read this: http://wikitravel.org/en/MannheimSeptember is the time of Oktoberfest in German towns, also the time of new wine, Besenwirtschaften, game and mushroom dishes in the countryside, and the leaves changing colors, so you might want to visit places in the countryside or the Black Forest if that is your kind of thing. Have fun! :)
