NFS. This is a 1/6 scale Frankenstein's Laboratory kit by Stannarts, a combination of 3D printed and resin parts. Modified with LEDs, some Epic Basing lightning bolts and some copper tubing & wire. Some lights flicker or change color. The plan is to add a Horizon Bride, a "Crazy Am I" Colin Clive, a "Father of the Bride" Ernest Thesiger (both are resin kits by Bryan Moore) and also a Frankenstein's Monster figure by Crimson Raven.

How to Preserve a Preserved Bouquet

A preserved bouquet is a unique and beautiful way to preserve flowers in an easy-to-display, long-lasting fashion. They are the perfect addition to your wedding day decor, or a thoughtful gift for a friend or family member, and will continue to look fresh after your big day is over.

There are many ways to preserve your bouquet, depending on your personal preferences and what you want it to look like. Some of the methods include using silica gel to dry your flower petals, casting them in resin, and pressing them flat.

Silica gel dried blooms are a great way to make your flowers last longer, as they only need to be dried for one to seven days, which is far shorter than other techniques. It will also keep your blooms looking the closest to how they looked on your special day.

You can use this method to preserve your whole bouquet, or select specific blooms that you'd like to keep. To get started, pour a small base layer of silica gel into your container and nestle your flower petals in it. Then, place the lid on your container and leave it to dry for about a week.

Resin-dipped flowers are another popular choice for brides who want to preserve their blooms. Unlike the first two options, resin-dipped flowers are much more permanent, and they won't change color over time (unlike dried flowers).

This process is a little more complex than the other methods listed here. You will need to purchase a mold to cast your flowers in, as well as a thin base of resin. Next, you will place your flowers face up in the resin, and work slowly to pour the resin over them. It's important to be careful during this process, as air bubbles can cause the flowers to turn brown.

Pressed flowers in nsw are a quick and simple way to preserve your bouquet, but you will lose the 3D shape of the blooms. This method will work for a large bouquet, but for smaller ones, this might not be the best option. It's also best to press your flowers with wax or parchment paper and not paper towels, which can cause a lot of ink to run down the stems.

You can also purchase a floral preservation kit from Etsy and Not On the High Street, which will allow you to press your own blooms without any professional help. The kits come with a weighted hardback book, parchment paper, and a spray of hairspray for protection.

Once your blooms are dried, you can frame them or pin them to the lapel of your blazer! They are a beautiful and unique way to show your love, and will be the perfect accent piece for any room in your home.

Figure collecting: April - June 2022

Slowing down, sorta (haha)... but well on track to clear out most of my figure wishlist by end of the year.  Not going to include every last item I’ve picked up in the last few months, but there’s still quite a few I want to show off, including a biggie.

Yu Yu Hakusho: Kurama, Hiei and Youko by Union Creative.  I wasn’t going to pull the trigger on these, until I realized that Hiei had an alternate “sleepy” head, and instantly I knew I wanted to make a Hiei sandwich ^^

Ancient Magus Bride: Chise Hatori in wolf pelt.  Super tiny and adorable!  This one was a struggle to get, as this was a “secret” figure that could only be obtained by buying the full set of 8 figures.  But I only wanted this one and had to wait for someone to split the set.

Final Fantasy: Dragoon (aka FFIV: Kain Highwind).  Since it’s not officially a figure of Kain (my favorite boi from FFIV), I didn’t realize this existed for quite a while as it didn’t come up in any searches.  Of course they had to make the Kain color variant limited edition, aka harder to find, gotta pay more : p

Oh, like the fancy backdrop?  It’s supposed to be Midgar from FFVII, or as close as I could get. I’m working on installing backdrops on all the shelves : D

Toriko.  Probably the best figure of him, though he always looks like a mechanic to me in that jumpsuit ^^;  Another figure that’s part of a set which I’m trying to split.   

Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure: Jotaro.  And toys!  Mainly included Jotaro for scale, but I picked up these mini crane game and capsule toy (gashapon) dispenser kits on Amazon and am working on customizing them.  The gashapon is done... it’s very hard to tell, but the top dispenser is advertising a Seto Kaiba figure, and the bottom is Tokidoki.  I also added a Tokidoki backdrop to the crane game and am working on crafting super tiny prize boxes to fill it with.  What better to go with figures than a crane game dispensing more figures?!

Jo Jo’s Bizarre Adventure: DIO!  Ok, I admit I don’t care for him as a character, but man, the smugness radiating off this figure and the exaggerated hip thrust/skintight black bodysuit made me desperately want to have it.

Conveniently he comes on a set of stairs, which works perfectly with the door-onto-a-staircase in the backdrop.

Castlevania: Alucard and Maria.  Another hard to find set, as they’re on the older side.  I wasn’t going to get Maria but I do like her “Hey big boy, checking out my owl?” gaze.

And finally, the *drumroll* piece.  Hubby’s birthday gift to me was this gorgeous resin Alucard from First 4 Figures. You can see how big he is (1:4 scale) as the edge of his cloak is in the photo above.  Unfortunately hubby was unsuccessful in hiding it (so I knew what I was getting), as the shipper box stood maybe 3′ tall : o

(And if that wasn’t enough, I preordered this even more exorbitant 2 part resin of King of Fighters: Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami, my gift to myself) : p

This plane. This diorama. This dog.

This is a model of a Dornier Do-17p that served with the German Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War. But to me, it's so much more than that.

This was the first model I built after moving into my girlfriend's house. That woman is no longer my girlfriend, she's my fiancée! And in less than a year she'll be my wife. But us being together, me moving in and me putting that ring on her finger would not have happened if I hadn't passed the test over two years ago. That “test” was ensuring I met the standards of my fiancée's 126lb German Shepherd, Gunter. Gunter had been known to growl and bark and snarl at other men that my wonderful woman had gone out with before she met me. Hell, Gunter even put on such a show of force that one man was literally denied entry into the house. But the first time I met Gunter, he was absolutely cool with me. He not only welcomed me into the house, but didn't leave my side the whole time I was there. As the relationship between his human and myself blossomed, Gunter was there every step of the way. After over two years of being with my bride-to-be, I'm proud to say that Gunter is my dog as well!

So after about a month of living with the woman who changed my life forever, I decided to make use of the all but abandoned workshop in the basement. One of the many former homeowners was a carpenter, and I found that this was the perfect place to build models! I chose to build one of the toughest kits in my stash: an RS Models 1:72 scale Do-17p. This kit fought me nearly every step of the way. Large gaps that seemed to eat filler putty, vague instructions, and decals that disintegrated when they were submerged in water all tried my patience. But I persevered. I went from being frustrated to being determined. It was also the first kit I ever built that utilized resin parts and photo-etched metal parts. Before I knew it, I had a wonderful model airplane on the workbench in front of me!

Simply building it wasn't enough. I was proud of overcoming the kit's shortcomings, and I wanted to show it off in the new home I was living in. I decided to build a diorama for it. I had a small jar of sand from Spain that my friend Bergo had brought back from her semester abroad, and I decided to use that as a dirt road for the diorama. I went a bit insane with my dremel, and drilled a ton of bullet holes in the top of one of the engines. Smoke streaks and battle damage were added to the aircraft during the weathering process. I purposely left one of the landing gear doors off so I could make it look as though it was ripped off when the plane crashed through the wooden fence I made out of toothpicks. I sanded one of the tires down and drilled a hole through it to make it look flat, and it did a great job making the plane sag to one side. Luftwaffe ground crewmen and a pilot were glued to the top of the model railroad grass I sprinkled onto the board.

The diorama needed something else though. It needed Gunter.

As I rummaged through a box of 1:72 scale farm animals, I was delighted to find what looked like a small German Shepherd. I immediately started painting it, using my pooch as a reference. I then painted up some sheep to give Gunter something to chase after, and attached them all to my diorama.

It's hard to believe that it's been two years since I've built this plane and diorama. But I'm reminded of it every time I look into my display cases. It's always there.....A testament to overcoming a tough project, and a monument to my love of aviation and most of all, my dog.

For Elain:

Az notices that uses a ton of sketch books for her garden designs and seeds. He decides to give her a binder collection that allows her to put seed packets and other items so that all her ideas are in one place. He also gifts her a magical garden tool satchel, that always her to carry more tools and makes the load fee less heavy so that she can come home to him without her feet hurting. He still gives her foot rubs as it sa part of their nightly ritual even though she’s not in pain anymore.

In addition, Az buys Elain a scrapbooking kit and flower press after a conversation he had with Elain. Elain briefly mentioned in passing once that she had a dream as a kid to make forever flowers so that she could learn and remember all the places she visited. Elain had always wanted to travel and he learnt that she kept a journal for herself. He gifts her these items the first solstice after they are married at Rosehall. She finally has the means to keep her memories in her own travel journal once they finally start travelling inside and outside of the Night Court. After a while, she starts gifting her family beautiful pressed flowers and plants that either remind her of a place, their scent or a memory. She gifted Cass and Nesta a pressed peony that bloomed on the day their first child was born. She eventually starts doing pressed flowers and resin flowers for the public to commemorate private moments in their lives. She’s got brides from Velaris to the Spring Court that want her to work on their wedding bouquets for the ceremony and to preserve them after the fact.

For Azriel:

Elain loves to give Az gifts that have a practical use but are a little funny or connected to a memory.

One year Elain gifts Az a magical blade sharper/holder. After moving in with him, Elain noticed that every quarter Az would collect every single one of his knives (which are a lot) and take a couple days to sharpen and clean them. She always teases him that he takes more time sharpening TT than he is in bed (which isn’t entirely true) but he makes sure to remind her of the truth.

She buys Azriel a hammock that can be used inside and outside their home. She noticed that Azriel wouldn’t be comfortable napping on the couch and didn’t like to unnecessarily mess up the bed linen during the day. He also took time to adjust his wings on the couch and the bench outside their home when spreading his wings. The hammock allows Az to spread his wings comfortably and gives him a reason to nap during the day.

Solstice thoughts

So, what’s Elain giving Azriel tonight as a Solstice gift? Waterproof socks? Special wing mittens that she knitted herself? A book of 2000 Crosswords that he can do when he is spying and dying of boredom?

I'm kind of late to starting a stitching blog, I guess!  I actually started cross stitching a year or so ago.  I *initially* caught the bug when I discovered the Dimensions kit 'Woman With Bouquet' which I bought and then stuffed it in a drawer because I was too scared to embark upon such an intricate project. 

My first attempt was a really simple Super Mario just to get the hang of it, and then I did a NASCAR bookmark for my dad and various other tiny things…none of which were photographed.  And still my Woman With Bouquet sat there.  Well, that's not really true.  Technically, she multiplied!  As I developed skills, I kinda sorta discovered a whole bunch more.  I have since accumulated patterns for Rose of Sharon, Villa Mirabilia, Ashley's Roses, Enchanted Mermaid, Mermaids of the Deep Blue, Crystal Symphony, Raven Queen, Red, Gypsy Queen, Portrait of Veronica, Eva and Minerva…and that's just Mirabilia.  I also have an additional Dimensions kit, a pattern for my Dad, a cool Mucha/70s style lady, and a pattern for Mucha's Rose.  I'm starting to feel overwhelmed just typing this, and I haven't even gotten to Lavender & Lace! 

For Lavender & Lace, I've purchased The Bride as well as all of the Celtic Ladies Seasons, and for them I plan to use colour conversions for most.  I'm in love with the one Janet Granger did for autumn.  Rather than purple and pink, Spring will be all in green.  Summer will be green and yellow instead of green and pink.  Autumn will be, well, Janet Granger's, and Winter and Christmas will stay the same.  What I have in mind is the actual turning of the seasons.  Spring is when green starts to pop out.  Summer's green and yellow scheme will bring leafy trees and blazing sun to mind.  Autumn's greens, coppers and whites will show Summer turning to Fall, and then into Winter.  The original colour schemes were lovely, but I really want them to illustrate the turning of the seasons, and I will be stitching them on opalescent white fabric  to symbolize how each season is beautiful and full of promise.

This weekend, I will post one finished work (expect profanity!) and one work in progress.  I'm a few weeks into Minerva, but will be posting photos each Sunday to show her develop.

Also, I should mention I'm most definitely an artistic person, so photos of my drawings, crochet projects and forays into resin molding will likely show up in this blog too!
