Outer Battery (New York) is a label probably most known for releasing work from J Mascis' side project Heavy Blanket. Now, they're releasing the first in what is supposed to be several 7"s from The Foreign Correspondents. I'm pretty excited about this release
I'll turn it over to the release page from Outer Battery:
Sometimes the best music happens when a group of friends get together and discover that they’re mutual fans of the same artist. When that group of friends is Ted Leo on vocals and guitar, Brendan Canty from Fugazi on drums, Michael Hampton from Faith/Fake Names on guitar, and Sohrab Habibion from The Obits on bass then you know that the recording is going to be special, and when the inspiration is the early 70’s work of French-Canadian legend Michel Pagliaro then you can be certain that it’s going to be magical...Lovin’ You Ain’t Easy is the first 7” in a series of nuggets from the Foreign Correspondents, join them as they travel the world searching for lost classics!

During our conversation, Brendan Canty makes it clear that he has no interest in revisiting the past. It's not bad blood.
If anything, it's his continued relationship with his former Fugazi bandmates that keeps the band from doing the reunion thing. They simply like each other too much.
Case in point, the The Messthetics, which reunites the drummer with bassist Joe Lally.
The group's latest finds the trio joining forces with saxophonist James Brandon Lewis for a fantastic new LP that wholly embraces jazz.

About 2 years BB (before blog), I bought this self-titled release from Washington D.C. based band Deathfix. I remember reading the review in Pitchfork and listening to "Better Than Bad" and being hooked. 2012 was a time when I was rediscovering power pop - The Raspberries, The Toms and Gentleman Jesse were all favorites at the time.
And while Deathfix (a collaboration between Brendan Canty of Fugazi and Rich Morel, a touring guitarist with Bob Mould) does have powerpop sensibilities throughout, it can be a bit darker. Pitchfork mentioned Deep Purple crossed with Big Star.
This was released on Dischord, and remains one of my favorite albums of the the 2000s.
