very very poorly. I haven’t read an actual published book series in a while and ough. I forgot how much I love reading </3 seems fitting that this would be the series to remind me!

I see why Wolfe and Santi have taken over the fandom since they’ve nestled quite comfortably into a nook in my own mind. They seem to be nearly the exact ship tumblr is fated to love and most of it is actually canon — i.e. unhealthy devotion and codependency, a shit load of trauma, and adopted children. Also, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen actual genuine found family in published books, and oughhhh it’s so. Family dynamics are my weed

I do wish people talked more about the Brightwells though because…… wow. The dysfunctional mess they are seems perfect for tumblr users to latch onto except I’ve seen few actually do it. That excerpt from Brendan’s personal journal fucked me up to formerly unheard of proportions. An heir and a spare…. but who’s who, really? Also do we ever find out if Brendan was the one who murdered the ink-licker in the first book? Because it’s heavily implied but never really confirmed, and if it is what happened, well…… I’ll be in the nearest hospital. As I’ve mentioned, family dynamics are my weed.

Very solid series. Also!! Dario! Love him!! That scene where he stabs the High Garda Elite captain……. ough. Dario deserves to stab more people. As a treat.

Anyway I will probably be thinking about this for the next few months or so, if not longer. Good job tgl mutuals you have thoroughly done your job

au ehere brendan dies at a young age for some reason and somehow maybe bcs they’re twins? becomes spiritualy tied to jess meaning brendans ghost literally fpllows him around and cannot stray too far from him bcs they are bound by soul so while jess is still alive, brendan is stuck on earth with him but on a spiritual/ghostly level. meaning no one can see him unless like..idk something cool. but eitjer way 70% of rhe time brendan wants to get jess killed bcs he just wants to leave the real world and move on to the afterlife..that like 30% he doesnt bcs he rly loves jess and doesnt want him to die bcs hes his plder brother regardless…xx

this is a very cool AU! I particularly love the tension between Brendan wanting Jess to die to free himself, and really when push comes to shove he doesn't want his brother to die as well.

Following the success of the ‘Only be a Story’ post, I’m here to preach that “Raise No Fool” by Set it Off is Jess Brightwell’s relationship with his family.

Is the pre chorus not Jess’s relationship with his family after they send him to the Library?

This phrase in the chorus is particularly poignant, because watching his older brother Liam being hanged while his family did nothing was a pivotal moment in Jess’s relationship with his family.

The second verse is Jess’s relationship with Brendan. Backstabbing is Brendan’s motif, he betrays jess, and he dies by being literally stabbed in the back.
