Get ready to celebrate regional pride as ChillOut Festival's set to shine

Get ready to celebrate regional pride as ChillOut Festival's set to shine
Australia’s largest and longest-running regional pride festival ChillOut returns in March, turning spa country into pride country.
ChillOut Festival celebrates the Labour Day long weekend with a Rainbow Circus Spectacular amplifying regional pride.
Held in the spa country of Daylesford in March, the team are pulling plenty of tricks out of their topcoat amidst their annual program.
“In the last five years, we’ve managed to capture the best data we’ve ever been able to from attendees.”
“From where they’re coming from, their ages, their demographic and what they want to see.”ChillOut President Matt Clarke said,
“The overwhelming response we’ve found is people would prefer Daylesford for a pride festival.
“The big ones in the city have a different feel and come with increased risk for many.
“For some that can be stigma or attack, or fear of identification as some of the things.
“The irony is in regional Victoria many would think of us as the minority.
“But the overwhelming number of people attending ChillOut feel more safe and secure in Daylesford.”
Less than two months away, the vibrant weekend hosts diverse events featuring an array of LGBTQ+ performers.

Entertainment under the big top
Starting with humble beginnings as a relaxing weekend for queers to wind down after Sydney Mardi Gras, the festival has evolved over two decades.
ChillOut now transforms the Hepburn Shire into an annual beacon of pride that has community travel from all around Australia to attend.
“People specifically wait for ChillOut every year not only to celebrate their pride but because they feel safe as well,”
“Some feel that ChillOut is the only time they feel safe about holding hands down the street,” Matt said,
“It’s that inclusivity and safety that people feel here that makes us one of the most populated events on the calendar.”
Spankie Jackzon and Frock Hudson are back hosting the Welcome Event on Thursday night.
With Tanzar returning to The Daylesford Hotel on Friday bringing the tunes for their Welcome Drinks.
Friday will also see a Rainbow Spectacular headlined by Marcia Hines including The Voice Australia’s Emily-Jance Conidi, Spankie Jackzon, Cath Jamieson and DJ Rosie Rae.
The usual favourite events return for another year, including Bush Dance, Carnival Day, Pool Party and Poof Doof.
The Youth Muster returns including Drag Storytime with Frock Hudson, Gabriella Labucci and Nate Byrnes.
Matching the Circus theme is a Big Top of entertainment that’s making its way to town with comedy, cabaret and more.
Big Top Burlesque brings a cheeky sequined spectacular with Ziegfeld Boy, Brenda Bressed Mama Alto and Milo Hartil.
And a world of comedy awaits with Kyran Nicholson, Rhys Nicholson, Geraldine Hickey and Joel Creasey bringing the laughs.

Celebrating pride your way
“People love our major events that happen every year, but we have created plenty of other opportunities around town for those that want it.”
“There’s so much for people to enjoy in the region that we wanted to give them experiences that they can step into as much as they’d like,” Matt said.
“We know a large percentage of people who come into the Daylesford over the weekend don’t necessarily buy tickets for events,”
“But they love the hospitality and community spirit in our little villages,”
“Everyone has their way of feeling part of the festival.
While the program is filled with plenty of events for all, the crew at ChillOut know it’s about more than that.
“We are so lucky how much pride fills the entire town in March,”
“Every year we have about 30,000 people who come to Daylesford at this time,” Matt said,
“We know about a third of those people buy tickets to the event, so everyone has a different reason for coming.”
“For some, it is the hospitality and the experiences, for others it’s events like the Carnival Day in the park.”
“But the most important thing we want people to remember is to sort your accommodation NOW!”
Don’t wait till the last minute to sort your accommodation, check out the local listing here.
With more artist announcements on the way, the lineup for Carnival Day is already on fire.
Rogue Traders Natalie Bassingthwaighte and James Ash return to heat things up.
ARIA Award-winning singer and songwriter Joanne takes the mic.
And songwriter Bec Sandridge brings her brand of folky 80s rock nostalgic Spaghetti Pop to the stage.
You can grab tickets to all the events here.
ChillOut Festival takes over the Hepburn Shire from the 6th to the 10th of March.

Max Drag Queen's heartfelt post following emotional DRDU episode
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/max-drag-queens-heartfelt-post-following-emotional-drdu-episode/
Max Drag Queen's heartfelt post following emotional DRDU episode
Max Drag Queen shared a heartfelt post about the loss of their mother following the latest Drag Race Down Under episode.
“You’d be so proud of me. My world is upside down and I’m still going.”
It was an emotional time for Max Drag Queen in the latest episode of Drag Race Down Under.
But it wasn’t how they went in the Snatch Game that weighed on their mind.
A distressed Max broke down while preparing for this week’s Queen of the Desserts Runway.
Max shared on the show that their mother passed away just over a month before filming began.
Max has since taken to social media to share their story and a heartfelt tribute to their mother.
“I got the call for drag race a few weeks after losing you & it feels like a cruel joke,” Max said,
“I prepared everything I could for this opportunity to showcase my story and make you and me proud.
“I thought about not going on this season, but I could feel your voice telling me otherwise.
“I prepared my package for drag race whilst also planning your memorial,
“Saying goodbye to your physical body and sorting through your things.
“My heart hurts thinking about this time in my life.
“I remind myself that we try to celebrate life because that’s what you’d want.”
As if Drag Race wasn’t stressful enough, Max was supported by cast mates while getting ready for the runway.
“Crying about my dead mom and then walking down the runway completely naked.”
“I’m definitely feeling like a drag queen today.” Max said while walking the runway.

I’m crying on tv
Max shared what they were going through with the judges during their runway critiques.
Letting Michelle know that they wanted to stay in the competition and do their best.
“Episode 3 is the one I’m scared about watching back.” Max said in their social post.
“From the top of the day walking in I was in uncontrollable tears and couldn’t get out of feeling like I needed to be home.
“The more I thought about home the more I thought about how I didn’t really have one with you anymore.
“Reshaping our relationship is the best thing that could have happened in the last year before you passed and I’m so thankful everyday for it.
“It’s a tv show. I’m crying on tv.
“I thought you would laugh at this or tell me to wipe away the tears and get on with it but today I struggled.
“2 months to the day and we were filming this. I don’t even fucking know where I am.
“I miss you and think about you every day.
“I hope you are proud of me. I love you so much mum.”
In the bottom, Max had to lip-synch for their life with Karna Ford and Nikita Iman.
But there’s a reason why they say Max is a lip-synch assassin.
Max served an iconic flip and split in one during the number that stole the show.
We can only imagine what a difficult time this was, and still is for Max.
Reliving the experience as the episodes air, fans have continued to share their support for Max online.
We hope this can help and provide some light during the grieving process.
They wanted me to bottom soooooo bad pic.twitter.com/NDCPfisjw5

Drag Race Down Under's Brenda Bressed on her iconic Aussie runway

Drag Race Down Under's Brenda Bressed on her iconic Aussie runway
Drag Race Down Under‘s Brenda Bressed has knocked her Melbourne sister Lazy Susan off her winning streak with two iconic Australian looks on Drag Race Down Under.
On Friday’s episode, Brenda won the series’ shortest ever Snatch Game with her take on Kath & Kim‘s Trude and then clinched the win with ice cream mascot Bubble O’Bill on the Queen of the Dessert runway.
Brenda has posted more photos giving a closer look at the looks on Instagram.
“When I was a kid, I would ALWAYS choose the Bubble’O’Bill ice cream when we’d go to the milk bar for a treat,” she wrote.
“Its 2 in 1, you get the best ice cream, and then you get to finish with bubble gum, hello!?
“I consider myself a pretty camp bitch, but this was far too camp for me.
“[Bubble O’Bill] was actually one of the first looks I started sketching because we had to get approval from production for this runway, within the first 5ish days of getting the call.”

‘We knocked Lazy Susan off her winning streak’
Brenda Bressed also won the truncated, mercilessly edited Snatch Game with her Gina Riley, Kath & Kim‘s Trude look.
“I still cannot believe that I WON Snatch Game – what?!” Brenda wrote on Instagram.
“I had said to myself during the whole process of getting ready for the show that my only goal was to make it to Snatch Game, and then to take out the win was just incredible!
“I still remember getting back to the hotel that night after filming the win, and sitting in silence just trying to come to terms with what had just happened.
“This is the challenge that everyone waits for, and it’s THE challenge to win!”
Brenda thanked Brisbane queen Mandy Moobs who played Kath Day-Knight on the Snatch Game panel.
“I have to say a huge thank you to @mandymoobs for being the best ‘scene partner’ ever. It was so much fun bouncing of such a talented performer like you,” Brenda said.
“It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE Kath & Kim fan. When @dellakatessen suggested that I do Gina for Snatch Game, obviously I was obsessed with the idea of doing her character inspired by Trude.
“Finally we were able to knock @mslazysusan off her winning streak. But the wins have stayed with the Melbourne girls thus far, let’s try and keep it that way!”

Drag Race Down Under's Lazy Susan explains that runway
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/drag-race-down-unders-lazy-susan-explains-that-runway/
Drag Race Down Under's Lazy Susan explains that runway
Drag Race Down Under favourite Lazy Susan has broken down how her winning, innovative episode two runway works.
The Melbourne queen is competing on Drag Drag Race Down Under season four.
On Friday night’s episode two, our ten queens performed in girl groups for the Grease-themed musical maxi-challenge.
Spoiler alert!
In the end, Lazy Susan won the challenge, and Kiwi queen Olivia Dreams became the Porkchop, sashaying away after losing the lip-sync against Lucina Innocence.
But it was Lazy Susan’s innovative sci-fi “single female lawyer from the future” runway that’s left everyone gooped and gagged.
The transparent suit. The divorce papers inside the bag. The hologram fan projecting faces and images.
“This is INSANE, one of the best conceptual runways throughout the entire franchise, just amazing,” one person wrote on X.
“Can we talk about Lazy f___ing Susan? This bitch is a f___ing mastermind; she has won the first two episodes, excuse me? And next week they are playing snatch game,” another person wrote.
“I am gagged and gooped… She is the look queen this season,” another declared.

— shugus #TeamMuñekas (@batidodepuleva) November 8, 2024
‘It was a very risky piece’
After the episode, Lazy Susan showcased the look in some promo shots on her Instagram.
The queen also posted a 15-minute behind-the-scenes video showing how the fan and the projections over her face work.
“I had seen these hologram fans around. I was absolutely fixated because it’s so cool,” Lazy Susan explained.
“However, because it’s this cheap technology, it was a very risky piece.
“These fans use a third-party app software to insert things into an SD card. I don’t have access to a phone when I’m on Drag Race.
“If anything goes wrong, the file corrupts, anything on the actual device itself… screwed.
“If you’re thinking about trying this at home, in order to create the hologram, these blades need to spin so fast right in front of your face.
“Please, please, please, consider your safety before you do this.”

Did a Down Under queen drink the first beer on Drag Race?
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/did-a-down-under-queen-drink-the-first-beer-on-drag-race/
Did a Down Under queen drink the first beer on Drag Race?
Drag Race Down Under queen Lazy Susan has addressed an extremely Aussie detail people noticed during the season four premiere.
The Aussie/New Zealand spinoff returned with a new crop of queens for season four on Friday night.
The newly-retitled season is the first one without RuPaul. It’s the first to be hosted by Michelle Visage. And in episode one, not one but two winning queens – Isis Avis Loren and Sasha Colby – joined the judging panel in a first.
And people are theorising that the premiere episode had another first: the first time a Drag Race queen has gotten on the beers in Untucked.
As the queens returned to the werkroom, there was a single beer among the colourful cocktail glasses on the table. Melbourne performer Lazy Susan was later seen drinking it.
A few people couldn’t help but notice the very Aussie detail, including an X post that Lazy Susan responded to.
“They had this cranberry vodka drink,” the drag queen wrote.
“I asked if I could get a beer instead and they decanted a VB!! It was a highlight.”
The queen also declared it was Untucked’s first beer, and after doing absolutely no research from past seasons, we’re going to agree.
OMG! Yesss. They had this cranberry vodka drink and I asked if I could get a beer instead and they decanted a VB!! It was a highlight

Spoiler alert!
In Drag Race Down Under‘s season four premiere, Lazy Susan won the double runway challenge in episode one and is already a clear standout.
Lazy Susan is up against her Aussie sisters Mandy Moobs, Freya Armani, Brenda Bressed, Karna Ford, Max Drag Queen, Nikita Iman, Vybe and New Zealand queens Lucina Innocence and Olivia Dreams.
Here’s hoping the rest of this new season is as good as that premiere.

The Down Under Queens have a message for Bob the Drag Queen
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/the-down-under-queens-have-a-message-for-bob-the-drag-queen/
The Down Under Queens have a message for Bob the Drag Queen
With season four of Drag Race Down Under about to drop, the Queens have a message for naysayer Bob The Drag Queen
When it comes to the worldwide Drag Race franchise, Down Under is never given the dues it deserves.
And while our Down Under Queens are often the butt of jokes online, Season four has shown they know how to play along.
Ahead of the premier, they drop a video on socials, calling on Bob the Drag Queen to give Down Under a chance.
Last year Bob’s TikTok stating ‘I’m so bored I could watch Drag Race Down Under’ went viral.
And although it’s all in jest (we hope), plenty of people jumped in the comments to agree.
While making camp content for their socials at the cast launch of Season Four, the Queens filmed a message for Bob.
In a hilarious video, they called on Bob to give season four a chance.
They even offered to pay Bob’s WOW Presents Plus subscription for two months.
That’s 10 US Dollars.
And the way the dollar is at the moment, that’s a sacrifice!
The Season 8 winner posted ‘Maybe y’all will be fun’ in the comments of the video.
Could this fan the winds of change for Drag Race Down Under?

‘Give more love to all the girls from Down Under’
Earlier this month we spoke with Drag Race Down Under Season 3 Winner Isis Avis Loren.
Who thoughtfully and calmly called those who underestimate Drag Race Down Under “a bunch of assholes”.
Calling on people to support their local franchise, giving the show, and the contestants more love.
“Queer people from down under need to be supporting these girls.”
“Show them love, see their shows and interact with them online.” Isis said
Read the full interview here.
But the question remains, is that something you are going to do?
With the first episode of the new season dropping this Friday on STAN, do the Queens competing have your support?
After all, by this time tomorrow one of them will be gone?
Want to follow them on instagram, you can find them easily here.
While a lot of the magic can be found in their instastories, some of the queens have been getting very creative.
Brenda Bressed has been building up her YouTube Channel, with a fantstic behind the sceens look at the launch.
It also has some great tea from their experiance on The Voice Australia.

Max the Drag Queen has dipped their toe into video content.
Max gets interviewed by local mean green machine Lynnduh on a spicy chicken parody spin off show “Fierce Ones”.

Who are you cheering on?
With Michelle Visage in the hosting chair the first episode of the new season drops on STAN on Friday.
Butyou don’t need to watch it alone.
You can catch screenings of Drag Race Down Under in your local venues with Season 4 Queens at the helm.
As well as where they will be performing from week to week.
We can’t wait to see the queens enter the Werk Room and entertain us.
But whether your purchasing merch, cheering them on at local gigs or from afar.
Remember the imortal words of Art Simone’s Kick Ons.
It’s entertainment.
A reality show where people put on wigs and try to be fabulous.
Watching it shouldn’t make you want to tell the people starring on the program to quit drag or worse.

US Drag Race superstar cheers on Down Under's Mandy Moobs
Drag Race Down Under season four doesn’t start for a few weeks but Brisbane drag star Mandy Moobs already has RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 queen Loosey LaDuca in her corner.
Last week, Mandy was finally confirmed for the lineup of season four of the newly retitled and revamped Drag Race Down Under.
After the announcement, US Drag Race superstar Loosey LaDuca declared she’s proudly “TEAM MOOBS!!” and explained why in a lovely post on X.
“When I did a comedy tour in Australia last year, the airline lost my bags,” Loosey explained.
“Mandy heard through the grapevine, invited me to her home, and insisted I take several looks she made herself.
“[Mandy] wouldn’t accept anything more than a ‘thank you’. She is a queen’s queen. TEAM MOOBS!!”

As well as being one of Brisbane’s top drag performers, Mandy Moobs is also a talented seamstress, making gowns for all the dolls through her dressmaking business The Hemmingbird.
On X, UK vs The World winner Blu Hydrangea also jumped into the thread to add, “Met her briefly on tour there and she is one of those queens you just remember forever.”
Absolutely. She’s a girl’s girl.

Are these the queens on Drag Race Down Under season 4?
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/are-these-the-queens-on-drag-race-down-under-season-4/
Are these the queens on Drag Race Down Under season 4?
Filming is underway on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under season four, and rumours are flying about which Australian and New Zealand queens are appearing this year.
Our Aussie queens flew to Auckland in mid-February and are now a few weeks into filming the new season.
Everyone involved in the show is sworn to secrecy, and over the past few weeks, a likely lineup of queens assembled by the drag detectives on Reddit has changed several times.
Will we finally see more Brisbane representation in season four when Mandy Moobs and Freya Armani are confirmed? Will we ever see any queens from Adelaide join the show?
We know Aussie comedian Rhys Nicholson is also in Auckland, and a few weeks ago a US RuPaul’s Drag Race winner flew to New Zealand to join the show.
However, RuPaul is already on his way back to the US because his first book tour date in New York is less than 24 hours away.
We can’t wait to see how this turns out when RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under season four streams in Australia on Stan later in the year.
Check out the still-unconfirmed list of queens rumoured for the new season below.
