Edinburgh Zoo workers have raised fears over safety and staffing in the wake of an incident which saw a giant panda let back into its enclosure while a keeper was still cleaning it out. The narrow escape saw the keeper discard her brush and flee the enclosure with male panda Yang Guang just feet behind. She was said to have “heard it behind her” just in time. Despite their “cuddly” image, adult giant pandas can be as dangerous as black bears and there have been several serious attacks at zoos in recent years. The incident last year came to light in an anonymous e-mail from a group of staff to zoo bosses which goes as far as suggesting the institution is in “crisis”, and that safety had been compromised because of staffing issues. A zoo spokesman denied that and said that the panda enclosure incident had been fully investigated, and that no staff or animals had been hurt. Edinburgh City Council, which licenses the zoo, confirmed that the zoo had “revised” its procedures in the wake of the incident. The e-mail from unnamed staff, which included a CCTV image of the incident, had even claimed that Yang Guang could have escaped into the public area of the zoo as a result of the security failure. The e-mail stated: “We are...worried about the safety of staff. We found out that there was a very serious near miss last year when a panda was let back into the enclosure with a keeper cleaning in there and she could have been seriously injured or even have died. “We got to hear about the near miss with the panda a while after it happened, just through rumour at first and then the keeper who experienced it went off sick and never came back. She heard it behind her just in time to be able to get out of the enclosure. Craig Williamson vanished to Ibiza, lying to colleagues at plush Guthrie Castle in Angus that he was visiting his father in Glasgow. In reality he was on the run having splurged the cash on his gambling habit - spending up to £5000 a day. The castle’s multi-millionaire owner, American businessman Dan Pena, has so far paid over £130,000 from his own pocket to cover refunds and honour bookings that Williamson had swindled the cash from. Dundee Sheriff Court heard bride Alice Cannon found her wedding - for which she had handed over nearly £19,000 to Williamson - was not on the books with Guthrie Castle staff only a week before her big day. It went ahead after Mr Pena met the cost from his own pocket. Megan McNamee found her big day was triple booked for a date in mid-July - forcing her to reschedule for later in the year, again with Mr Pena meeting the cost. And the mother of a third bride, Kayleigh Ferguson, handed over just short of £19000 to Williamson for a wedding scheduled for June and booked more than 18 months in advance.

WORLD'S FASTEST KNITTER TO ATTEND INVERNESS FESTIVAL…. The world's fastest knitter is to lead workshops at the Inverness Loch Ness International Festival. Shetland-born Hazel Tindall earned her title by knitting 255 stitches in three minutes in 2004. Four years later, she successfully defended her title when she knitted 262 stitches in the same time. Mrs Tindall, who specialises in Fair Isle knitting, will lead four workshops at the festival, which is taking place from 13-15 October in Inverness. The festival, which was first held last year, will be held at Inverness Ice Centre and other venues in Inverness city centre.

For the last week I have been lucky enough to sample some products from the Braw Beard Oil range, including their band new hair products and their Battle Scar moisturiser. 

Now, when i comes to hair products i can be very picky! I need something that will be able to hold my hair up from the first thing in the morning til the end of the night while still having some play in it. The current Got2Be hair paste that i use has been my go to for the last couple of years and i didn’t think anything would come close... i was wrong. The Freestyler styling paste has the perfect amount of hold for my thick hair and lasts all day. I’ve tested it through sun, wind and rain this week and it’s passed each time. The Freestyler is made with milk and honey which provide not only an amazing smell but also naturally nourish each strand of hair making my hair feel so much softer.

The Pomade is blended with extracts of bilberry, a superfood for the follicles that’s known to boost blood circulation to the scalp and provide the hair with the best nutrients to guarantee strength and growth. The pomade is such a versatile product and can be used to give you a perfect slick back look or even used for a rugged messy look.

I have personally experimented with the two products, first applying the Pomade for the perfect amount of shine, letting my hair dry off then applying the Freestyler to give my hair the perfect messy, slick back look while adding the shine from the Pomade!

Last but definitely not least is the Battle Scar Skin and Stubble Moisturiser. This unscented moisturiser is hand made right here in Scotland using a blend of natural aloe vera to help restore your skins natural moisture.  What i noticed when using this moisturiser was how easy it was to apply to my face, especially the areas with lots of stubble as with a cream moisturiser it can usually be hard to blend it through your stubble/beard. It says on the tin “For when life gets rough” and this couldn’t be more fitting. I would seriously trust this moisturiser in any setting, from sunshine to rain, from blistering winds to the freezing cold. This passes all the tests and lasts all day making your skin feel great.
