The ghost of Beta Rho Omega
Jeff and Scott were standing in front of a hovel. It must have been an impressive house once. But the broken porch, the half-collapsed roof, the broken windows, it was all pitiful. And all in such an excellent location. The university campus was around the corner, with a few remaining fraternity houses in the neighborhood, but the majority of them were investment properties such as student residences, boarding houses and office buildings, with coffee shops and co-working spaces on the first floors. Not exactly their world. Jeff and Scott were the children of laborers, their children were laborers. In their minds, students were freeloaders and ne'er-do-wells. And in many cases, even voters for the Democrats. As I said: Not their world!
Their job today was to clear out the wreckage, tear down the porch and prepare the construction site for the excavators that would arrive tomorrow to clear the way for a new Starbucks or something. They didn't need to unlock the door, and they didn't have a key anyway. A powerful kick was enough. And the rotten wood gave way with a crash. A cat fled screaming from the dark room, which smelled musty. The young colleagues would have put on face masks by now. Wimps, Jeff thought to himself. They shone flashlights around the room. It looked as if a farewell party had been held many years ago and then the building had been abandoned. Beer bottles and weathered pizza boxes could still be seen in the thick dust. The furniture was covered in droppings from pigeons, cats and other animals. Scott went to a window and forcefully pushed it and the shutters off their rusty hinges. Fresh air! Thank God! And light that offered an even better view of the chaos. Part of the ceiling had come down. Water damage. The wallpaper was hanging in shreds from the walls. The only thing that looked surprisingly clean and intact was a large banner above the fireplace “verum homines olet, verum homines amant odor verus hominum”. Scott asked what that meant. Jeff replied if he looked like that, would he speak Spanish.
The two of them searched the first floor. The stairs leading upstairs didn't look like they could withstand two massive workmen. They would need a ladder. The kitchen smelled like rotten food and animal droppings. There were pictures hanging in a hallway. Some of them were a little yellowed. But surprisingly, the frames of the pictures were dust-free. On the frames were brass plates with names on them. And in front of each one was always the same: “Bro of the Month” and a date. Some of the plates were from the 50s, some from the 70s, some from the 90s. There must have been many more pictures in the past.
The shadows of the missing pictures could be seen on the wall. The last two Bros of the Month whose pictures were still hanging were called Jeff and Scott. And the Bros, who, like the other shirts, had BPO printed on them, clearly looked like what Jeff and Scott would have looked like if they had spent their high school days in the gym and on the football field. Jeff and Scott turned pale. Pale like the freshly painted wall behind them. Shit, Jeff had to throw up, was there a bathroom around here? He opened the nearest door.
White tiles, urinals, toilet boxes. Jackpot! He opened a box and broke into the toilet bowl. Shit, shit, something was wrong! Yes, there were puddles of piss and obviously more than one guy had jerked off here. But everything was in good condition. “Bro, everything okay in there?” Was that Scott? His voice sounded different. Younger. Deeper. ”Dude, are you jerking off? Or why is it taking so long?”
Jeff went back to the hallway. The guy standing there was probably Scott. With longer hair. And somehow… younger! Had he changed his clothes? Or had he been wearing the overalls all along? And damn it, why wasn't he wearing a helmet or a T-shirt. And Scott stank! Of sweat and musk. Shit, shit, shit! Scott raised an arm and scratched the back of his head. Like the Scott in the picture “Bro of the Month.” He inhaled the stench from his hairy armpit. A deep cave between large pectoral muscles and impressive biceps and triceps. Was Jeff seriously getting a boner? Scott began to knead the bulge in his crotch with the hand that wasn't scratching his head. “You like what you see, bro?” Why did Scott talk like that? “Bro,” that's what young, stupid college students called each other. Not workers. Like Jeff and… Were they workers? Scott had been his buddy since high school. Most successful quarterback in ten years. And he himself… Wasn't he… Right, the linebacker. Shit, maybe he'd just had too much to drink yesterday. Jeff flexed his pecs. He knew that made Scott hot. ”Of course I like it, bro! How about you? Do you like it?” On Jeff's naked chest, beads of sweat glistened in the chest hair. Scott lowered his dungarees and freed his cock from the yellowed and encrusted jockstrap. With one hand he jerked his cock, with the other he worked Jeff's right nipple. Jeff moaned, unbuttoned the waistband of his trousers Scott pushed Jeff back to the toilets and pushed him against a wall. He spat on his dick and began to insert it into Jeff's ass. Shit, why couldn't the two of them be together for half an hour without having sex?
Last night's party had gotten out of hand again. Like almost every party at Beta Rho Omega. Jeff and Scott were on garbage duty this time. Damn, a few of the chairs in the dining hall had been broken. That happened quite often, too; the BPO members were the biggest guys on campus. The alumni were used to writing regular checks for new furniture. The guys from Rho Epsilon Epsilon Kappa across the street had really overdone it again two years ago; their house had to be completely renovated. But hey, that was the neighborhood: a bunch of frat houses where big, dumb guys competed to see who could throw the best parties. A few went to college. But they were just a few nerds.

Elsa Kids Room (Availible for Everyone!)
Hello! I was finally able to complete my new set before The Sims 5 came out. I thought I should publish it now before you swear at me. Just kidding. Thank you again and again for your understanding, support and beautiful messages. I love you guys so much. <3
Our set, as the name suggests, is about children. Actually, I don't play with kids in The Sims. (I don't even play in real life. I mean, I like kids, but sometimes they can be very noisy.) But if I want to make a room for children, I want it to be like this. Simple and stylish. It's more simple actually. Our set contains a total of 45 items. Apart from my own creations, I cloned Maxis's books from the game and included them in the set. But I will share it openly in the next post after that. Because I didn't make them, I just converted. Anyways. If we count them, there are 59 items.
The highlight of the set is the bunk beds. Bunk beds came late to The Sims 4, but it was also very nice when they arrived. It's really cool to place other items under the bunk bed. I've also designed suitable items for this. There are items such as seating groups, desk, dreseer / bookcase that you can use with bunk beds. And you can also hang curtains on the bunks if you want. (I didn't use the curtain slot type this time :)
When placing the bunk beds, you need to place the base part according to which side the ladder is on in the bedding part. It also works if you don't place it, but your sim will look strange when climbing a non-ladder side.
The List Of Furnitures
Decorative Abacus
Decorative Box
Bunk Bed Base (Left, Right and Twin Ladders)
Bunk Bed Bedding
Bunkbed Chair (Seating and the Base)
Bunk Bed Curtains (Left and Right) - They are snapped right side automatically.
Bunkbed Desk
Bunkbed Dresser (Actually, it's a bookcase, but I gave it a dresser function because we can't place a bookcase under the bunk bed.)
Bunk Bed Loveseat (Seating and the Base)
Cabinets (9 pieces)
Decorative Calculator
Ceiling Light (Here's the thing about this. Normally, when making a lamp, we need to make a painting to spread light on the item. Since I couldn't spread the light as I wanted, I used the lights I used in my previous sets. If you place the lamp at the same angle where you placed it, it looks beautiful. Actually, it's not very important.)
Corkboards (These can also be snap to desk)
Desk
Desk Lamp
Dresser
Decorative Homework
Mr. Bloomy the Shining Bear
Nightstand (It looks like toilet)
2 Computers. (These two are the same, in fact, only one of them is compatible with the desk for the bunk bed.)
Decorative Pen Holder
Decorative Post-It.
Shelf
Single Bed Base and Bedding
Toy Box
Wall Mirror
I also added brass-gold swatch to the items on request. But I'm sharing it as a recolor because I added it later. If you want extra swatches, you should download the file called "TaurusDesign_Elsa_KidsRoom_BrassSwatch.package". These appear as two objects in the game, and the brass option is the one with the gold-plated taurus logo.
You can find everything by typing Elsa Kids Room.
By the way, if you have canceled your pledge and you can't see the set in the new month, please write to me. Again, thank you so much for everything. I'm going to sleep because I haven't slept in two days.
I hope you like it.
Love you guys 💖💖

Stormy Weather, or: Outside, the Wind (Inside, the Light) | Dream/Hob | 1600 words | Rated T
tags: I recently spent an evening without power therefore I must put the blorbos in a Situation, love confessions, first kiss, getting together, power outages, Hob Gadling throughout history, gratuitious use of mildly accurate Middle English
The wind tears around London like a living thing, a wild animal, a predator, intent on the hunt. It chases birds into their nests and people into their homes, moans around corners and rattles shutters, sending piles of leaves whirling into miniature hurricanes and whipping branches into a frenzy, sharpening its claws on roof tiles and telephone poles.
Except in Hob Gadling’s flat.
The New Inn, and the cozy home above it, is in one of those old buildings that’s actually been loved and maintained – thanks in no small part to Hob’s own care and attention. The walls are thick and strong, the roof is solid. The shutters may rattle, but the windows are double-pane; the curtains and carpets are warm and soft, and no drafts encroach on the sanctity of his living room, where Hob and Lord Morpheus, King of Dreams, are having a movie night.
It’s part of Hob’s concerted effort to introduce the Prince of Stories to the stories he’d missed during his imprisonment. Tonight it’s Blade Runner – the final cut, of course – which isn’t necessarily one of Hob’s personal favorites, but seemed to fit the stormy, rainy vibes of the weather. They’re installed on the couch, with hot chocolate and wine and snacks, which Dream has deigned to pick at. Harrison Ford is eating noodles and wandering through wet, moodily-lit streets. The wind is howling outside, but they’re safe and warm and surrounded by soft things and life is about as good, Hob thinks, as it ever gets these days.
And then his lights flicker. Once, twice; there is the impression of a sort of electrical last gasp, and the room is plunged into darkness.
The wind whips and the shutters rattle. A volley of rain spits itself against the windows.
“Bugger,” says Hob.
Dream says nothing, merely brings his wineglass – which had already been cradled in one elegant hand – to his lips.
“Hang on,” says Hob. “I’ve got some candles around here somewhere.”
He gropes his way to the kitchen. In one drawer he unearths some beeswax tapers and several tea lights, which he arranges on a plate. He rummages in one of the deeper cabinets and makes a triumphant noise as he discovers his prize behind disused mugs and a fondue set from the 1980s: a pair of old-fashioned brass candlesticks equipped with round reflectors, highly polished to catch the light and bounce it back out into the darkness.
“You are remarkably well-prepared for an event such as this,” says Dream, as Hob lights his various prizes and returns to the living room with his hands full of flickering flames.
“Well, you know,” Hob demurs. “When it comes down to it, I’ve lived a lot more of my life without electricity than with it.” He arranges the tea lights on the coffee table and sets the brass candlesticks on a nearby bookshelf. “You never really get out of the habit of preparing for the worst. Although I will say, these beeswax ones beat the hell out of the old tallow jobbies we had when I was young. Got ‘em from a local bloke who keeps bees not half a mile away, isn’t that cool? A beekeeper in the middle of London. There, now,” he says, and having arranged the lights to his satisfaction he plops himself back down on the sofa.
Outside, the wind wails. The lack of lamps on the empty street below and the gentle candlelight within make the night seem even darker, and turn Hob’s living room into something even softer and cozier than it already is.
Dream’s face, in the flickering candles, seems even more otherworldly than usual; and Hob, for his part, truly looks as though he belongs in another century. The very shape of his face has changed, somehow, into something older; taking on a new appearance in the candlelight the way a man’s tongue might curl differently around the syllables of another language.
“I miss it, sometimes,” he says lowly. “This kind of world. Before the wires and the phones and the cars. It was… quieter.”
“You speak often of your delight in change and progress. Do you truly long for your past lives?” asks Dream.
“Yes and no,” answers Hob. “Some things are better now, no question. Antibiotics, wouldn’t want to live without those again. Vaccines and X-rays and chemotherapy and antidepressants – almost all the medical stuff. Mass transportation. Cars and planes have never been safer. Honestly, I’ve never understood the people who moan about the olden days and oh, life was simpler back then. Don’t they know how many people died? How many kids? Because they caught a cold or fell out of a tree or had a case of the runs that lasted a little too long?”
He leans forward to adjust one of the candles, which is dripping unevenly, and when he sags back into the couch there is just the hint of a frown between his strong brows.
“And yet…” he says, staring into the flames, voice quiet. “Nights like this. I do sometimes think…”
Hob trails off for a long moment.
“There was a rhythm to life, back then,” he says finally. “You counted hours by the church bells and days by the tasks that needed done. And there was so much that needed to be done… cows milked and fields planted and clothes knitted or mended. And it was all so important, so… necessary. Regimented. But in the in between time – Christ! your time wast thine.” As he speaks, his voice has slipped into an older register: his Rs grown rounder, his vowels longer, curling from his mouth to mingle with the candlesmoke hovering over his coffee table. “I remember fair hours as a lad, even into my manhood, of which I spent lyende in th’ fields, watching ants in th’ grass. And later, too, we’d hie us to bed with the sonne, the fire banked in the hearth. An’ it happen that if we awakened before dawn, ’twas a simple thing to pass the time in simple ways, be it in prayer or in pleasure…”
The innuendo in his words is clear, but Hob is not looking at Dream; his eyes are unfocused as he stares into the middle distance, revisiting the past via candlelight. Until one of the wicks lets out a small pop, and flares, and he shakes himself, coming back to the present.
“God, sorry,” he says, voice back in the 21st century. “Woolgathering. I’ll go on for an age, me. More wine?”
But Dream’s eyes have also gone unfocused, his lips parted slightly, chest rising and falling with unnecessary breaths as he stares – no, gazes – at Hob. He, too, must shake himself into the present moment at Hob’s offer of more wine. He silently holds out his glass.
“May I ask you a personal question?” Dream says.
“Anything. You know that.”
Dream pauses. Sips. Outside, the sound of the wind has not abated; has grown, if anything, even more dramatic. There is the muffled sound of branches scraping against the side of the building.
“Why,” asks Dream finally, “do you pretend to yourself that you do not want me?”
Hob chokes. “I’m sorry, what?”
“Why do you pretend thus to me?” Dream pursues. “Who has known you longer than any being on this planet or any other; who can know your innermost dreams?”
“What do you mean, other planets?” Hob demands. And then: “Have you been peeking at my dreams?”
“I need not peek, as you put it, to see the truth of the matter. It is writ plain on your face and in your every word and deed. I merely wonder why this truth has hovered before us for over six hundred years and you have yet to press your suit. Do you doubt, after all this time, my affection for you? Do you find me – unworthy?”
Dream sounds, impossibly, almost uncertain. Even vulnerable. Hob sighs heavily and leans forward, elbows on his knees and face in his hands.
“I – God. Dream,” he stammers. “Yes, Christ, I am full of doubts. You stormed away from me when I implied you might be lonely, I… I have never, once, thought I had a suit to press at all. What on earth has brought this on? Now, of all times?”
“I do not know,” Dream murmurs. “Perhaps… this darkness is working on me, as well. Perhaps I am as susceptible to candlelight and nostalgia as the next anthropomorphic personification.”
He smiles, a little quirk of the mouth that contains worlds, and Hob leans over, listing helplessly into Dream’s space as the tapers flicker.
“Fuck,” he whispers, pressing their foreheads together, turning his head to butt his cheekbone against the sharp line of Dream’s nose. “Art thou rēal? Speak you treue?”
“Aye, my Hob,” answers Dream. “Min herte is treue and bilongeth to you.”
A sob catches in the back of Hob’s throat at the words. “Fuck,” he whispers again, “Dream, I’m yours. I am. I always have been. My Dream, min sweven, my leof. Alwei, allesweis…”
Their mouths find each other, then, finally, lip against lip and breath against breath. They kiss for a long, long moment, desperate and hungry and soft all at once, as outside the wind howls coldly around the corners of the New Inn, and inside the light cast by Hob’s candles bathes their whole little world in a cozy glow.
“Take me to bed,” murmurs Dream against Hob’s mouth. “Make me your lover. Show me how you pass the time by candlelight, and in darkness.”
“Oh, darling. Dearheart,” Hob answers. “Nothing in this world or any world past could make me happier.”
And he suits his actions to his words.

Just realizing that the fact that there exists an “Angel Eyes” Eclipse implies the existence of either a more foreboding or comically innocent version of him called “Devil Eyes”
oh, Lumi, you just unleashed something devasting
As entertaining as a detective Eclipse would be, innocent and way in over his head when it comes to dealing with a mob boss Y/N who just so happens to find him devilishly handsome and too clever for his own good, I'm thinking of something worse than a mob boss.
As a young rookie cop, you are attempting to put out so many fires in the city. The crime rate is abysmal. The politicians are running on fumes and bribes. The police force is barely hanging on through constant corruption. Animatronics are still considered inhuman, unalive, objects to be owned and used, and disposed of. You're hoping that the laws declaring animatronic rights will pass soon.
Murders happen every single day in a city racked with gangs, crime lords, and thieves. You and a few other officers are tasked with dealing with a particular crime scene. It's not unusual for a politician to get assassinated, but there's something particularly brutal about the killing that sits in your stomach wrong—there was blood everywhere.
Then another important person gets knocked off, the carnage grisly and crimson, then another, and another. You can't shake how savage the murders are.
High-ranking officials start having you and other cops stand as bodyguards, taking them where they need to go, standing outside their meeting doors and on the street of their homes at night.
The killings keep happening. You learn of police officers who were standing watch were gutted, too. Slained just as well as the intended target.
You do your job, but you don't like it. You became a cop to help the city. This wasn't what you had in mind, much less babysitting powerful and possibly corrupted individuals that you despise.
That's how you confront him.
Late one evening, sitting in a squad car with a fellow policeman, you two keep each other awake with small talk until you hear the faintest scream. You both take off, and you take the back of the house. When you enter the gauche kitchen, there's a cook animatronic knocked to the ground. You stop to speak to the poor robot, her optics fuzzy until you offer a helping hand and get her back onto her wheels.
Before you can send her somewhere safe, a cold shudder rolls down your spine, as if someone were walking on your grave. You whirl around to find a towering figure at the far end of the room, dark and threatening. Black optics with pinpricks of electric yellow peer at you in judgment. The devilish eyes startle your soul.
You yell out commands to stop but the animatronic—you realize—doesn't head and disappears deeper into the house.
You give chase. You hear a gunshot upstairs and a shout from your partner. When you reach the second landing, you lift your gun to take aim, but a large fist clamp around your own. You fire once, hitting nothing. You're thrown against the wall, dangling by the wrists under the looming killer. Sharp rays, burgundy and royal blue, circle his face plate, splattered in bright blood.
It's too late. It's too late for the politician, it's too late for your partner, and it's too late for you.
He takes your gun and drops it far away. His staggering height gives no hope that you can fight him off, and already, he has you pinned. You simply hope that it will be quick, painless, but your heart sinks when he lifts a hand to your throat. His optics glint. You close your eyes.
A cold, slick finger tilts your chin up. He commands you to look at him, and you aversely obey. The optics scan your face. You wonder if he takes a sick pleasure from causing harm. You loathe that he most likely finds fear in your eyes but you are determined to not make a sound.
"Officer," he says in a cold, dark voice that spears your heart. He studies the badge on your chest, reading your last name etched in brass. You clench your fists, still suspended by his one large hand.
"Who are you?" you demand.
He doesn't answer. He cocks his head with a flash of sharp teeth in a metallic grin. When he drops you, you nearly crumple to the ground. You're aware of the blood underneath your chin where he had touched you. When you try to reach for your handcuffs, he's already down the stairs and out the door, fleeing the murders. Trembling, you fumble for your gun, but you find the clip gone.
The killer animatronic left you alive.
#ahhhh lumi! you make me go feral!!!#brain worms are worming#devil eyes#<<< au title hehe#listen this is dark and grisly and gonna involve psychological horror as eclipse stalks you lovely little cop you#he makes it knows that he knows where you live#you later find the clip of your gun on your table as if you set it there that morning but no that's not right#you keep chasing him#he keeps finding you at night#you're certain he's gonna kill you one day but he keeps busy with targets--specifically ones that oppose the animatronic rights#and you slowly start piecing together the puzzle that is eclipse#okay rant over thanks for reading my word vomit#officer!y/n#killer!eclipse

Commission from @vampireshmampire for "The Honeymoon Suite" - pls read this fic it's so cute
(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1. Shot from the bottom of a flight of switchback wooden stairs turning right, covered centrally by a dark green rug. The walls are half paneled in a pale beech wood below and light floral-patterned wallpaper above. Under the second flight on the right is a large leafy plant and a half-obscured brass sign that says “No Smoking, No Hexing, No Marking T-, No Bloodlet-, No Ectoplasm.” On the left wall going up the stairs is a small framed photo of two smiling women with red hair standing in front of a large house and holding a “sold” sign and two brass signs, one says “suited” and points up the stairs and the other marks the floor as “1”. Further up the wall are other kitschy decorations: a patterned hanging tapestry; a large painting of a dandelion against a full moon; a framed photo of two smiling redheaded women posed cheek to cheek in wedding dresses; a mounted bluegill fish labeled “Franklin III”; a decorative plate ringed with witchy runes and a red seeing eye in the center; a decorative plate ringed in yellow flowers, buds, and bees, with “The Bee and Bee” written in cursive in the center; a needlepoint that says “home is where the wine is”; a painting of a flowery valley at a low angle, sunset sky peeking through a heart-shaped lichen exit at the end; and a single window with orange spotted curtains and blacked out panes. In the corner of the landing between flights there is a small French accent chair with a teal leaf pattern and a Grecian vase filled with pink-budded branches. Nandor is sitting sprawled on the landing, one leg stretched across it and the other laid out on the stairs below. He is leaning against the left-hand wall, hair bunched up as if he had fallen and slid down. He is flushed purple and laughing hysterically, chin tipped up and mouth open wide, tears leaking from his eyes. One arm is laid down limply and the other is held up to grasp blindly at Guillermo’s elbow. Guillermo is standing between Nandor’s legs, hunched over with one hand braced on his knee as he cries laughing with equal hysteria, flushed to his ears and helplessly lifting one finger to his laughing mouth to try to shush them. They are clearly drunk as hell but having a great time.

Breakfast and Beginnings
Near a bend in a river there was a town. It wasn’t particularly large and the houses were arranged in three concentric, wooded rings. The sun had risen above the tall grass and was pouring through the streets and into windows. One of the houses, with a grey stone roof and walls covered in moss and ivy was alive with bustling activity.
Standing outside the house one could smell that the oven was baking something sweet, and that meant that it was the start of a new week. The kitchen was filled with the smell of flour, baking, and the tell-tale scent of pine. Brass pots glinted in the sunlight and water dripped from drying plates into the basin below, kicking up small drops to arc up and crash back down into the washing water.
The herbs that grew on the windowsill threw shadows across the countertop and onto the table. A pot and matching cup of tea sat in front on a plate, laden with crumbs. The soft glow of the oven warmed the back of the now unoccupied chair.
From the pantry came a small rustle as the owner of the house emerged. While small in stature he filled the room well as his whiskers twitched in sync with his nose, enjoying the scent of a peach pie as it wafted through the house. The wood mouse was proud of what he baked.
His little paws dropped a few lemons on the table and he produced a wooden chopping board and his sharpest knife. The obsidian had been chipped by Albert, the best craftsmouse he knew. Working quickly the mouse cut the lemon into thin, almost transparent slices and laid them out on the board. Next, he brought out a whisk that he had found. Some thought it was comically large but it suited his needs.
With a bit of work, he whipped some cream to soft peaks and put it in his cold room, making a note that he needed to grab another block of ice from Maurice next door. As the pie neared completion, he wiped his paws off on his apron and threw open the window with the wide windowsill. From there he grabbed a large flat cork round and prepared a place for the pie to cool. He had been lucky that Phillip had found the cork bobbing in the river - they had each gotten a thing round slice from it for home projects.
As he slipped on oven mitts and brought the pie to the windowsill, he saw the curious, mousey eyes of his neighbours and some of their friends. They knew exactly what he was making. Now it just needed to be garnished. A crown of whipped cream, a ring of lemon slices. And finally, a thin dusting of powdered sugar would let the slices he handed out earn their name Sunny Delights.
Theodore busied himself with clearing away his breakfast dishes before hanging his apron on a hook next to the door and pulling on a dark green vest and brown jacket. As he bustled into the hallway, he passed shelves that sagged beneath the memorabilia and trinkets he had bought or collected. He grabbed a wicker basket and upon opening the front door was met with the green garden and a white fence toward the path.
A few years ago, he had had the good idea to have a small table made and two benches to match. He placed the basket on the bench and opened it, producing first a heavy table cloth that he spread across the table. Next followed a cake stand and finally a few plates and forks to go along with them. A series of wooden cups followed; he had gotten some fresh black berry juice that he would serve to his visitors today.
Over the next few minutes Theodore arranged a variety of food on the table and set places for eight mice. He knew that they would bring hearty appetites and would make sure to feed them well. Ishild had brought some freshly baked bread that morning and he had kept it warm next to his fireplace. As ten minutes approached Theodore made his way to the gate and opened it. By the time he returned from the kitchen he knew his neighbours and friends would be eagerly awaiting the main attraction.
When Theodore returned the benches and one of the chairs were already filled. He placed the cake on the cake stand and produced two small glass jars from his pockets. It was always best, he believed, to serve fresh bread with jam.
“My friends,” he started as he lifted his cup for a toast, “I hope that this week will be another prosperous one.” The other mice echoed his toast and took a sip. Putting the cup down again Theodore cut the cake into eight even slices, each with a slice of lemon and a whirl of cream.
Sunlight glimmered in the lemon, casting a pattern onto the cake below. He served the pieces first to Maurice, he brought in new ice every week, but something was bothering him. Linta seemed cheerful as ever, her apron was decorated with patterns of small mushrooms around her pockets, and the basket would be filled with mushrooms by the end of the day.
Julian began devouring the cake as it settled on the table, a mouse of prestigious appetite he would be busy fixing roofs and leaks around the village. He was an adept carpenter and had helped make Theodore’s dining table. Peredur carefully divided his slice in half and wrapped one up in a cloth; he would take it up to his watch for a midday snack.
Ishild smiled at the Sunny Delight as she took it from his paws. Her paws had small flecks of flour on them; she had been awake since before sun up making bread for the day. Phillip and Albert were last and the two brothers thanked him with wide smiles before digging in.
“What has your whiskers twitching Maurice?” Maurice looked up, and brushed a stray tuft of white fur to the back.
“It’s the ice. I was waiting at the dock this morning, but nobody came. The raft must have run into trouble up river.” Theodore nodded his head and brought a cake laden fork to his mouth. The lemon drooped slightly over the edge and the brown crust had crumbled cleanly, except for a few stray crumbs that tumbled onto the plate below.
“I can go take a look for you.” It was his job after all. Maurice’s eyes lit up as he let out a small squeak.
“That would be very kind of you, but it might be a few days journey.”
“Nothing I can’t handle.” Theodore smiled, “Remember the journey I took for Ishild? Three days to find that bread tin. It was covered by leaves and near giant tracks.”
“That tin has worked wonders for me,” Ishild interrupted, “I’m still using it in the big oven for feasts and market days.” Her breads were very good. Most of the mice made their own on occasion but none would contend with her skill.
“I suppose I might miss market day if I go travelling,” Theodore said out loud, “But you’d save me some of your salted lye bread?” He would hate to miss out on her excellent bread.
“Of course, I was planning on making a big batch for the weekend. I heard there might be some travellers passing by then and would want to give them some good food.”
“There is a rumour about. It might be Rosalia,” The siblings cut into the conversation.
“Wasn’t she due here two weeks ago?” Albert asked.
“Unless she has a lot of goods to trade, that’d slow her down in every town she visited.”
“She might even bring some giant-made.” That last line sent a hum of excitement through the mice. While they made good things here the giants could make them faster and sometimes sturdier.
Speculation and conversation continued for a while as everyone ate. As the Sunny Delights were finished, they moved on to the bread, cutting pieces off and enjoying them with fresh jams. It took about an hour before Peredur pushed his chair back.
“Thank you for a wonderful meal. I need to get to my post to watch the approaches; and I’ll watch out for you Theo.”
The others watched Peredur go, and finished up their meal. Linta headed off next with a smile and a spring in her step, she whistled tunelessly as she headed towards the forest Ishild looked after her.
“I’m looking forward to market day. She told me that a new batch of mushrooms has nearly matured. Should I save you some? Theodore looked at Ishild and smiled.
“That would be wonderful of you,” they placed their dishes next to the sink, “and thank you for coming. I’m not sure what I’ll make next week; it’ll depend on my garden.”
“I’ll ask Maurice to come and water your plants, and Linta will gladly help picking what is ripe.” They smiled at each other; he enjoyed having good friends and neighbours.
“Thank you,” Theodore walked her to the door and together they collected the others and walked to the gate. Hugging they said their goodbyes and made promises to meet again when Theodore returned.
Now it was time to prepare for the journey ahead. He grabbed an old leather bag, with a sturdy base and sides. From his wardrobe he took a few changes of clothes and an extra pair of sturdy boots. Raiding the pantry he packed bread, fruit, and clean water. On top of that he grabbed his sleeping bag and strapped it to the bottom. A coil of rope and some pitons were hung on the sides. He also took a faded duster and floppy hat from the cloak stand. He walked into his living room and put out the fire he had had burning that still kept some bread rolls warm. Those he stuffed into his pockets. Above the fireplace in a black leather tube hung his sword. Long and thin with a leather loop through the hole beneath the cross-guard, it had served him well on previous expeditions when he needed to cut copes in a hurry.
Grabbing a gnarled walking stick from the umbrella stand he closed the door behind him and made his way down the path, locking the gate and heading toward the river. He would need to see both banks of the river to be able to spot the raft. He wound his way along the worn paths of the village, the stacked stone walls keeping the dust of the road from the well-tended, productive gardens of the town.
As he passed through the outer ring of the town he looked up at the tallest tulip. The yellow petals stood out starkly against the sky and from within he could see Peredur waving a blue cloth at him, a signal for greeting or saying farewell to a traveller. Theodore lifted his hat and waved back. It would take him a short while to reach the river.
He wound his way through the grassy fields. Some boulders had been moved, no doubt the work of giants, and the usual paths were littered with fallen grasses. Giants this close to the town were bad news, but as long as they left them alone everything should be fine.
The wind picked up and blew some grasses and flower petals across the trail he walked. He caught a particularly pretty flower petal and rolled it up; if he managed to get it home and treat it properly it would make a lovely placemat. It was a vibrant blue with a black splodge radiating from the veins. As he carried on, he smiled, finding a treasure this early on was a good sign, and this journey would be worthwhile.
And indeed, it was, Theodore soon found himself by the riverbank, tall walls of reed abutted a leisurely floating river. Large stones broke surface here and there and in a cove just across the river a large rock was the site of a few mice having lunch, their boat tied to a jutting piece of rock, a red sail and hull painted with strange giant markings marked them as Downriver traders. They were a good source of delicious cinnamon, a spice he spent considerable time and effort acquiring.
Their distinctive red zupan and feathered caps made them easy to spot as they toasted with cups of dark coffee. They must be returning home as their boat sat high in the water. That meant that he’d not be able to enlist their help and waiting for a boat wasn’t an option. He would walk along the river, enjoying how the sunlight danced over the ripples and the wind bent the strong reed stalks.
The walk along the riverside was pleasant. He sped along at a good pace, clamouring over stones and under branches and other debris. The riverbank had collected branches, and the occasional giant item. He found a large metal cone that was partially buried by sand. It was intricately made, with a long central strip of gilded iron that resembled the head and mane of a horse that ran to the top of the cone. Some horsehair also trailed off the other end. He could have Albert make a rope or similar from it. The silver metal glinted in the sun and, despite a large dent in its side, Theodore could see himself in its reflection. He would love to dig it up and take it home but, he thought with a smile to himself, he had nowhere to keep it.
A shadow passed above him, and he darted into one of the entrances to the metal cone. Birds of prey circled occasionally looking for prey and he had no intention of being mistaken for a lunch time snack. The inside of the cone was padded with leather. This was the helmet of a giant. That meant that two long metal sheets extended further underground that would protect the sides of a giant’s face.
As he marvelled at the inside of the helmet, he heard something approach from outside, the flapping of wings pushed air into the helmet and he steadied himself. The bird had landed, and he didn’t know what kind it was. The two holes he could see out of were, after a moment, filled with dark feathers.

This story was spawned by the beginning originally written here and I am posting the first part of the first adventure as a celebration of me returning to writing and wanting to share a little warmth with the world.
I sincerely hope you enjoy. I will be posting this elsewhere when the mood strikes and am honoured to have been given some of your time.

Hello, Love!
I don’t know if you are familiar with that but you know these days when you have such high anxiety and doubt about yourself? And that one friend who is your little light at the end of the tunnel?
How about Thena has this moment and Gil is there to hear her out and helps her calming down?
Would love to see some comfort moment between them!
Choose the AU.
"Boss?"
Thena winced as the knock and gentle voice came. She should have known he was still here, and she should have really guessed that he would just be able to sense that he should come to her office.
Gilgamesh had a bizarre sixth sense for when she was feeling less than her best.
He hadn't been in her unit long. Hell, the unit hadn't existed long, by this time. But every time she seemed to hit a wall with the brass, or they came back from a mission she was less than happy with, he seemed to know.
He would kind of drag his feet in leaving, hang around a little later than necessary. And then he would inevitably end up at her office door like this, asking to come in with such a soft tone.
How was she supposed to say no?
"Come in, Gilgamesh," she sighed, standing above her desk, staring down at the files she had been slapping around for the sake of her frustrations.
He poked his head in so timidly for a man of his stature. His shoulders followed as he slipped in unassumingly. "It's kinda late, isn't it?"
"I could say the same to you," she raised her brows at him, tipping her head to the side faintly. He didn't back down, though. Gilgamesh was frustratingly unintimidated by her. "It's a bad look for the team to be here later than the boss."
"Sorry," he smiled faintly, gripping the strap of his bag over his - truly massive - shoulder. "But, I mean...the question still stands, doesn't it?"
Damn this man and his emotional perception. She had no idea how he wasn't in the interrogation or psych branches. But she had to count herself lucky for that.
He looked around her office, which he had been in a handful of times before. As her chosen second in command, he had been in it more than anyone else, even the runner up being Kingo. "That's a lot of files."
Right, her migraine. She looked behind her and around the room, files simply stacked as tall as they could go without falling over. "Yes."
He chuckled faintly. He was also the only one not afraid to laugh in her presence, which she both respected and resented about him. He really seemed to see her as just some person--a real human, instead of the Goddess of War. "Seems like a lot to put on your plate."
"Well, that is what happens when you start your own division team," Thena sighed. She knew this came with the territory, perhaps she didn't think that it wouldn't be quite this...heavy.
"Is it just standard paperwork?" Gil shrugged, drifting closer to a file withing his reach. He kept his eyes on her, waiting for her to hiss at him or something. He picked it up, "reports and personnel files?"
"It is," she admitted, and didn't even want to do that much. But he was already reading the damn thing. "Paperwork for me to file, things that had to be filed before I was even the team leader, things for me to file now that I am. It's about six months worth of paperwork that has to be done within two weeks."
"That hardly seems fair," he frowned, setting the file down again.
"And does the agency prioritise fairness?" she eyed him. "Mister-Suspended-For-Rescuing-A-Cat?"
He chuckled, and his smile was so infectious and welcoming. It was hard not to smile when he smiled at her. "Okay, you got me there."
Thena looked back down at her desk. "Don't mind me. It's just some dirty work that has to get done. I knew it would come with the territory when I applied to have the Special Ops team designated anyway."
"Did you know you would be taking it on yourself though?" he frowned, even stepping closer to her desk and the chair that was across from hers.
"Yes," she sufficed to say. Didn't she do everything alone?
"That doesn't seem like the purpose of a team."
She frowned up at him as he swung his bag down to the floor to lean against her desk, seating himself as if he were just so at home in her office. "Excuse me?"
"Well, I guess the other guys don't have the clearance for all this," he shrugged as he picked up another folder of papers waiting to be signed and reports waiting to be reported.
"Gilgamesh," she said sharply, but her usually razor sharp tongue really just bounced right off this guy. Her crossed arms tightened and her frown deepened, "Gilgamesh!"
"I'm not saying it'll be fast, but doubling one is still twice as fast, right?" he went on, even picking up a pen - her pen! - to scribble his name on the papers. "Y'know, Kingo's really good at forging handwriting. If you have stuff you know only needs your name, I bet he could help-"
"Gil!" she barked, and finally, he looked up at her. She leaned over her desk, assuming the posture that usually worked to help her assert a certain predatory stance. He didn't even blink. "Go home."
He didn't even humour her, just looked back down at the paper.
"Gilgamesh, that is an order."
"It's almost midnight."
What? No, it wasn't. Thena looked over her shoulder at the clock above her desk. Fuck, it really was getting past 11:45; she hadn't even realised. She looked at him again, scribbling away, "all the more reason for you to leave."
"Not unless you're leaving with me," he looked up at her, "ma'am."
Her eye twitched; she needed sleep. She pulled out her chair roughly, "I could write you up for insubordination."
"And do even more paperwork?--I wouldn't," he snorted.
Fuck, he was right. Thena grabbed another pen for herself and aggressively swiped her signature over another paper. She glared at him, "you don't have to do this."
"I know," he admitted immediately, under no delusion that he would be rewarded for his disobedience. "Just doesn't seem right to bury you under all this. You can tell everyone you did it all yourself, if it's for your reputation. But I can't let you take this on alone."
He had such a tender heart. It was part of why she picked him, sure, but she didn't think she would ever have to be on the receiving end of such...tenderness.
He looked up at her, catching her glowering at him, and smiled.
Thena looked down at her paper, slashing through it with another signature. Her heart did a somersault in her chest. Perhaps she was more fatigued than she had initially thought. "Did you at least eat something?"
"I did," he volunteered between papers, "I'm sure you didn't."
That wasn't any of his business. "If I didn't?"
"Well, if you didn't," he shrugged, looking down at the done stack of papers to his left, "I would say I have some leftover lunch in my bag. But I'm sure my team leader is responsible enough not to starve herself while she's-"
"Okay, enough, just give it to me," she growled at him. And again, her snarling did nothing but encourage him. He bent down with a grin and handed over a perfectly wrapped riceball. "Please don't tell me you hung around here this late just to catch me doing paperwork."
"No, of course not."
Right. No, of course not, that would be ridiculous. She chewed her bite before asking, "so...what then?--why are you here?"
He smiled at her again, even more gently than last time (and yet the affect on her accursed heart was just as bad). "I was looking out for a friend."
Thena looked down at the rice ball. It had been in the fridge all day, but pulled out long ago enough that the rice wasn't hard. It was delicious, actually. She couldn't remember the last time she'd had a friend.
She'd had teammates in her days in the academy. They had hated her. Trusted her, maybe, feared her, absolutely, but they certainly didn't like her. Even last she worked with Minerva, she wouldn't have called them friends (no matter what Minerva had to say about that).
She smiled; maybe having a friend wouldn't be so bad.

Vintage Flue Coverings:
You may never have a chimney or wall duct opening in your home that needs covering, so you won’t be in need of a decorative flue cover. But in the days when houses were heated with wood, oil or coal-stoves, heat carried up through brick or stone chimneys to the upper floors. Each room had a flue opening, but heating pipes were often removed in the spring and stored until fall, leaving openings (often unsightly) in the walls. Flue openings were covered to make rooms more attractive (and keep small animals and children’s toys out of the pipes).
Innumerable kinds of flue covers have been invented, but the usual ones for inside the house were decorative round metal or cardboard “plates” about 8” in diameter that would hang via a chain or hook over a flue opening. Different flue covers were used in different rooms, and over the years, styles varied along with fashions in clothing and furnishings.
In the Victorian era, flue openings were sometimes covered with wrought iron or brass grilles that could be left in place year around. In other homes, removable metal plates were used. These flue covers were dinner-plate sized, slightly convex, and often decorated. Some flue covers were hand-painted on the inside of round or oblong glass surfaces, but most had a printed picture applied under a thin glass layer with a cardboard backing. Many flue covers appear to modern eyes like upside-down paper plates with small pictures in the centers.
About the turn of the last century, shopkeepers discovered the value of building goodwill by means of inexpensive giveaways. Today, we receive calendars, yardsticks and coffee mugs, all of which tout some business by name. Before 1900, a cheerful picture was considered effective sales promotion although the giver’s name did not appear on the item. Advertising a business’s name on freebies was a later inspiration. Well into the 1940s in America, fanciful flue covers were given away in the thousands by doctors, dentists, shopkeepers, plumbers and so on.
Today, chimney flue covers are interesting wall decorations evocative of the past. Collectors of flue covers often specialize in a kind of subject matter, such as lovely ladies, small children, winter scenes, dogs or cats, and so on. One popular type, the hand-painted cover, usually features flowers. Early in the 20th century, ladies painted innumerable china teacups and dinner plates, mostly with flowers, and flue covers were another conveniently-sized painting surface. Other collectible flue covers are those commemorating a particular event or that have pictures of churches or public buildings.
Other collectors focus on the composition of the cover: Some were made of thin wood; others painted to look like wood. Still others have interesting pressed-metal edges. Whatever the subject matter, a group of five or a dozen with a single theme can make an unusual artistic wall display.

BLESSED WITH TGGT CONTENT!!!! SQUID CHANDELIER PLEASE
The warmth of the bar envelops me like a pressed vest the moment I step through the doors. Squid’s Chandelier is a roiling place, packed to the gills. It has a warm interior, rich brown wood lacquered along every surface, from the floorboards to the elegant panels on the walls, lit through from the other side by panels of amber and azure stained glass. I tilt my head up toward the ceiling, taking in the sight of a massive antique brass chandelier fixed with electric bulbs hanging from a chain above the center of the room. A copper plated squid is wrapped around the light fixture, long tentacles curling through the arms of the chandelier. It’s a masterful work of art, one I’ve admired ever since I first cast eyes on it weeks ago.

One of my favorite Youtubers Laura Caldwell has done a video of her top 22 thrift finds of 2022 and I thought I might try a top 10. In no particular order:
I found a Herend Queen Victoria pattern ceramic basket. I've never liked ceramic baskets but this is my dream if-I-won-the-lottery dinner set so when I found something in this pattern in a thrift store I HAD to get it.
I got a mid century ceramic panther 2.5 feet tall, no cracks or chips. I had literally had daydreams where I walk into the thrift store and before I'm even in the door I see a ceramic big cat, I make a bee line for it and grab it growling 'Mine!' and march it up to the counter without even looking at the price. When I find out the price it's ridiculously reasonable. The only things that went different to how I'd daydreamed it was that my mother was very embarrassed by my squealing and my brother carried it to the counter for me.
The most stunning 1884 copy of The Life and Exploration of Dr Livingstone The Great Missionary Traveler. There are some horrifically racist bits, it was written by Victorians but he was very anti slavery and in one of his adventures someone was attacked by a lion so there's gorgeous pictures, in gold on the brown leather cover, of a slave with broken shackles and a white man being pinned down by a lion.
I got a parrot carved out of clear quartz with his beak and tail carved out of agate and his crest carved out of adventurine, he's perched on a chunk of amethyst.
A beautifully detailed framed ink drawing of a birds eye view of a snake skeleton in a box, every rib every vertebra and every fang is perfectly detailed and the shadows are all exact. It must have taken someone so long to draw.
A lovely not-for-export rose medallion vase. It's very old and you can tell from the precision of the painting and the lack of a mark that it was made for the Chinese market, they kept the good stuff for themselves and exported the sloppily painted stuff. It likely came to New Zealand with a Chinese family intending to set up market gardens or go gold mining in the late 1800s.
A hand painted plate for hanging on the wall as art. It's a night time jungle scene of a toucan silhouetted against a double waterfall. I'm a biiiiiiiiiiig fan of jungle themed stuff and I love scenes of the jungle at night.
6 pink Arcoroc Rosaline wine glasses. I have collected Rosaline for 2 years and in that time I only ever found 1 wine glass, I've got champagne flutes, cocktail glasses, liqueur glasses, sherbet dishes, bowls in 4 different sizes, more plates than I need, but could I find wine glasses? Then there they were, directly at eye level, $2 each, a set of six. I almost couldn't believe it. I had looked in every single thrift store I'd been in for the last TWO years, and I go thrifting at least twice a week, and in that whole time I had only ever found the 1 single wine glass.
A vintage great white shark jaw. I collect oddities and it was a bucket list find. I didn't expect to ever find one in the wild and I figured if I ever found one online here in New Zealand, I'd be paying a bomb for it, they're illegal to sell here unless they're pre 2006. I walked into my favorite thrift store and embarrassed my mother (again) by squealing when I saw it - embarrassed as she was she still bought it for me for Christmas.
My #1 best find was exactly a year ago today on the 2nd of January 2022. I went to a fabulous vintage market and walked into a booth and just thought 'I'm going to spend $$$ here'. I bought the most stunningly gorgeous hand-painted, artist signed 1865, French porcelain jardiniere with iris' (a flower that has special meaning to me) painted on it and lion handles. It's gorgeous and I got it for a steal considering how old it is and how intact. It's gorgeous colors and exquisite painting.
I probably could do 22 if I sat here for long enough but I'll just add a few honorable mentions:
Brass butterfly candle holders
A taxidermy cane toad (the exact day I had put a display case I already owned onto a new shelf and decided it looked good there I just had to figure out the perfect thing to put in it)
A mid century Italian brass tortoise trinket box
2 lovely Victorian vases and a gorgeous Art Nouveau vase
The perfect plant pot to compliment the Victorian Majolica plant stand that I bought a couple of years ago that was missing it's original matching jardiniere. It's modern but the color is almost exact and the lines are similar enough that it looks like it belongs, especially since I have a lush boston fern in it covering most of the pot.
Lots and lots of the Sun Purple glass I collect, I've gotten really good at spotting it over the last year.
Several gorgeous antique books but especially a set of 3 1910 Natural History books with gorgeous illustrations that were so pretty I took photos of some of them and got them printed on coasters.
The largest paua (New Zealand native abalone) shell that I have ever seen.
A Japanese rip off of the Minton Majolica Monkey teapot, I doubt I'll ever see the Minton one in the wild but I'm very happy to own the bootleg version.
