02/8What inspired you to become an actor?
I was interested in impersonating unique characters from childhood. I used to impersonate onscreen characters. This is just what I was made to do. It’s my passion. My passion was to act. Another primary influence is my father. He was a theatre actor. I was influenced by him. And, I wanted to foray into a creative filed like films. After a floundering career as a techie in several multinational companies aboard, I quit my job, and I’ve decided to chase my dream of being an actor. I continuously watch movies and decided to see what it takes to be an actor.

03/8How did you foray into the film industry?
My first stint was dance, which is one of my greatest advantages as an actor. We had a dancer group in Visakhapatnam. I used to enjoy with that group. After watching my dance show in Visakhapatnam, one of my well-wishers Ashirvad Luke, a well-known music director, encouraged me and introduced me to the makers of Manasutho, starring Jai Akash in the lead. I had a couple of crucial scenes with Brahmanandam garu and a special song in the film. That’s how I forayed into the film industry.

04/8Did you ever take acting classes?
I never attended any acting classes, though. But I attend workshops to get into the skin of the character I portray. The actor’s second gig was a small role in the Teja directed-film Oka V Chitram, starring Aadhi Pinisetty in the lead role. It wasn’t until the third film that he got his first lead in a movie titled Life Is Beautiful directed by Sekhar Kammula. Even though it was not his solo lead role, his portrayal as a Telangana guy was hands down his best performance, earning him huge accolades. The fact that he was able to pull off such a captivating performance with no prior training proves that some people just have what it takes.

05/8Who is your favourite actor?
I grew up watching Chiranjeevi on screen. I was always attracted towards his films. The habit of watching many movies as a child might have inspired me to become an actor. Renowned for his unique, unusual characters and dance moves, Chiru never stops his process. He lives up to the challenge to always own the role. He has chosen to be undeniable. And because of this, every single time I watch him on screen, he ultimately inspires me as an actor. Though I had an interest in acting, the strong motivation and backing came from my wife Harika who is currently working in the US, and she is still my support for everything, both financially and emotionally and helps me achieving my goals.

06/8What are your favourite movies?
I am inspired to keep acting and to stay in this challenging industry when I see the transformational power of a well-told story rendered by skilled actors and directors like Frank Darabont of The Shawshank Redemption fame, Tom Hanks, Aamir Khan, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Vijay Sethupathi.
When it comes to Telugu, I used to get heavily inspired by Ram Gopal Varma, Mani Ratnam and Krishna Vamsi’s films and it gave me a strong urge to get into movies. Nani and Allu Arjun are my favourite actors from the current generation. My all-time favourite Telugu films are Maya Bazaar and Kshana Kshanam. I’m inspired to wake up every morning energized because I stand on the shoulders of those who are truly inspirational. Their performance, visionary and the narrative keep me motivated and excited to continue daily.

07/8Do you have any other hobbies besides acting?
I’ve become really good at three things: dance, photography and acting. Like I said, I’m also a dancer and avid photographer, so I get to know every eye watching on me. In fact, that gave better control over my emotions. I always stay in touch with my passion for watching movies and web series. I try to analyze and learn more from others. I just try to enjoy my life by having activities and having time with my family. Apart from humming songs as a hobby, I am crazy about travel.

08/8Tell us about your upcoming films
I have a few projects on the go at the moment. Three of which are very significant. One is a new age thriller which will be directed by debutant Ajju Mahakali. He worked as a writer for my previous film Nuvvu Thopu Raa. The other project is a rom-com set in the Telangana rural backdrop which will be helmed by Ashok Reddy. The third one is a love drama with a social message. Gurusri will be wielding the megaphone for this venture. An official announcement of these projects will be made soon.
And I am always interested in creative collaboration as I want to produce films partnering with investors. I’m venturing into film production soon while simultaneously balancing my acting career. I’ve been listening to scripts and started to understand the nitty-gritty of the filmmaking process with my close associates. And I have already coined a name for my production banner, and I will be announcing the details soon.
