At long last! Who The Fuck Is Aulus mal Asina The Powerpoint Presentation: The Tumblr Post.
This was a long labor of love, combing over every piece of lore I could find in-game and in the Encyclopedia Eorzea. I initially made this because whenever I mentioned Aulus, I inevitably got met with "who?", so I thought I would have one place that contained all his lore and how it relates to MSQ as a whole.
For ease of access, here is the twitch link. It goes to a clip from 2018 Fanfest where they discuss Aulus. If you listen veeeeery carefully after he says "He's dead", you can hear a faint "Noooooooo!" in the audience. That...was me. I was actually there for that question and let me tell you I've never had so many heads whip around to stare at me all at once.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy and have learned something new about my favorite FFXIV character.
Edit: Coming back since this is gaining a bit of traction to add, if you like what you see here, please check out my friend's FFXIV fangame Indagator , where you can either romance or betray Aulus. It builds off of a lot of the info from above and masterfully expands on it. Mind the tags.

Me rn trying to figure out ways to force X'rhun and Arya and I'lyrha to be involved in the Bozja plotline
Tumblr media
There's a pair of Red Mage resistance fighters there, a Legion conscript named Lovro and his apprentice Meryall, who defected from the Empire to fight for the liberation of Bozja. How did they learn Red Magic? Lambard. Lambard agreed to teach Red Magic to Legion soldiers as part of his betrayal.
Lovro hated Lambard's guts. When Lovro went on to train new Red Mages for the Empire, he deliberately tried to recruit revolutionaries who he could encourage to use the magic against the Empire. Absolutely hilarious to me. But the narrative potential of finding out Red Mages live on and fight for freedom elsewhere... because of Lambard, is something I really want to see X'rhun react to.
There is ALSO a Vochstein beastmaster enemy - and a neat chunk of lore on what happened to that noble Ala Mhigan house after they let their griffins loose to prevent the Garlean's having them. Cairm insisted their griffins could not fall into the hands of oppressors. To spare his father's life, one of Cairm's sons agreed to enlist and teach the Garleans their secrets to training griffins. His adopted daughter now serves the Legion loyally, with Vochstein griffins and - there's just something very cool to explore there.
Trimaran, Lyrha's griffin, is only half Vochstein - but he has the notorious temperament of that breed and inherited the vibrant blue coloration. She's not a beastmaster. That combination of flaws shows in their tempestuous relationship. Pagaga would recognize Trimaran's lineage, and the intense rivalry that might spawn there - two inheritors of a vaunted bloodline, each accusing the other of being unworthy to claim it. Idk! Sounds fun! Plus like. Griffin fight. Griffin fight.
But X'rhun is pretty allergic to leaving Eorzea and getting involved in large military movements so somehow I'm going to have to make the plot kidnap him 😔

Thinking about this from Zenos's unending codex entry:
Yet in embracing his stolen power, Zenos had rewritten his fate. His essence did not return to the Lifestream, but instead possessed the body of another. In a cycle akin to that of the immortal Ascians, the erstwhile prince leaped from vessel to vessel, until he found one with which he could return home to Garlemald. There he was reunited with his original form, which had been occupied for a time by the Ascian Elidibus, and was thus resurrected body and soul.
Because the phrasing on it sounds like it was not something he did willingly? Like he is just unable to go to the lifestream and needed to find another body? When he's first seen in that random elezen body he makes a comment on how he was given a second chance which also implies to me that it was not something he did himself but rather something that just happened to him.
A friend brought up how Fordola has the resonant (though a less powerful iteration of it) and how this implies she might also be undying because of it. And then just now it occurred to me this would also apply to Misija.
so now I'm not just having conspiracy theories in my mind about how Zenos can still live, but ALSO how Misija can still live 👀

17. Taking a step away from “canon”, do you have any wholly unique side quests and adventures your Warrior of Light has gotten caught up in? Did they chase down ghosts of their own past, get married, open a bakery, or fix an ancient blood curse on their family line? Have they reunited with loved ones or buried old hatchets? If there’s some unique story behind your character, how does it show up and how did it play out? (x)
After returning to the Source from the First, Corisande journeyed to the Bozjan Southern Front to aid the resistance in their effort at reclaiming their home. They had no idea they would find their mother there, already aiding the resistance as a scout. When Corisande left her village nearly 6 years ago, it was with the understanding she and Annika would likely not see each other again. But word of Corisande's feats as the Warrior of Light had made their way to their former village deep in the Golmore Jungle, and Annika, hearing of what her only child was doing, was not content to stay hidden in the forest when she could help (wonder where Corisande gets that from!). Neither of them could believe their eyes when they first saw each other, and are still overjoyed to be reunited.

So to break from the norm of not posting, I have a short story about Mikoto that I've been working on for a bit. I wanted to write something like the 'Tales from...' released during the Rising events.
Hope you like it.
~~~~
Mikoto’s steps echoed around her, the silence around her making everything sound louder then it should have been. Mikoto thought back to why she was here, she always knew how this journey will end.
The bustling around Gangos never slowed down since they retook the Dalriada and today was nothing different. Bajsaljen was talking to her but she wasn’t really listening.
“Mikoto, stop”, Bajsaljen grabbed her before she stepped in front of a cart moving the supplies from the stockpile to the boats headed back to Bozja. “Mikoto, you’ve been not here for the past few days, has the echo given you another vision?” he said with the slightest hint of concern behind the admonishment
Mikoto looked at him, her mind finally back in the camp and knowing she had to leave “There’s something I need to go take care of, and I don’t expect to be back for a while”
“You are not one of my soldiers, you don’t need to seek permission from me, nor do you need to return, we can build back our home without your help” Bajsaljen said to her, she would be missed but he knew there was so much a young scholar needed to do that could not be achieved in his camp.
“No, but an old friend would have wanted me to help and see this through till the end, but I think this journey has to happen now”
Mikoto’s foot slipped on a loose stone that slipped and she tripped forward bringing her back to the present. The pain of the rocks on the path cutting into her as she used her hands to stop herself slamming her face into the ground. She let out a sigh, “I made it through a battlefield with less difficulty than this, what am I doing?”, asking no one but herself.
She got back up, and noticed a small graze on her knee, the blood welling up and staining her stockings.
She brushed off the dust and rocks then the glow of aether enveloped her knee as she used her magic to take care of herself, this wasn’t quite how she saw this trips finale happening, so maybe what she knew was going to happen would not occur.
The sound of the stones crunching underneath her feet started again as she started moving forward towards her destination again and thought of how she even got here.
The wind was blowing through her hair, the sea spray was still on the air this far away from the shore. She had made it from Gangos to Sharlayan with less fuss than she thought, and with the gleaners running around bringing in stock to deliver it it felt like she had not gone anywhere.
Mikoto knew where she was going, but where on a map it actually was she had no idea. In Sharlayan she would be able to find people who know where her destination actually was. The Scions were her best chance of finding her destination, and she knew Krile would know where they are to point her in the right direction and she was sitting outside the Students of Baldesion’s quarters, looking out at her second home.
She had not been back to Sharlayan in years, but it was still the same as when she was at the Studium, the bench where she had lunch with Moen almost daily was still there like nothing had changed in the years since then.
She could still remember the push Moen had given her to seek more than what was on that island once she get her Archon mark, and now she had seen so much more than either of them expected, she had been in the Dalriada when Diablo Armament had broken free and Misja had sacrificed herself to save the people she had betrayed and Mikoto had been saved from herself, she had seen what Auracite could do to people and been there when the Warrior of Light had defeated Ultima and learnt of the secret history that Ramza was involved in.
Mikoto was nothing like she was when she left, but her home had not changed. Mikoto knew she would be even more different when she returned again, would she feel at home in Sharlayan or would she feel like a stranger in where she had called home for so long.
A soft voice called out from the building behind her “Miss Jinba”, Krile was waving trying to get Mikoto’s attention. “I don’t know exactly where it is, but if you visit Mor Dhona you’ll find the Scions who will know where it is”, and with that Mikoto’s journey continued.
Mikoto was almost to the crest of the hill, the final steps until what she knew was going to happen will happen. She knew the echo could be misleading, but what she knew was going to happen could not be avoided, and she had to be here eventually and that could not be avoided.
She stopped for a second thinking back on the Warrior of Lights face when they took a map out and circled her destination.
“Are you sure you don’t want someone there with you?” their strained voice gave away that their echo had given away what Mikoto was about to do to herself.
“No, you know I have to do this, and I want to be alone for it” Mikoto softly replied.
“Fine” the Warrior replied clearly frustrated with her “but you will be back here after this is done right?”
“Yes, I will be back, can I ask to borrow a room from the Scions once I get back?”
The Warrior of light looked relieved, “Yes I will organise that now, take care until you get back, ok, it might be safer here than Bozja but don’t let your guard down”
*crunch crunch crunch*
The sound of her shoes stopped echoing all around her once her destination opened up before her, the crystalline tree standing over Thaliak’s mark, the place the scions had used to remember her lost friend.
Mikoto’s voice cracked as soon as she opened her mouth, she stopped to find the words she had to say.
“Hey Moen, there is so much I have seen that I want to tell you about”
Her tears started falling as Mikoto knew deep in her heart would happen as she said her goodbyes to her best friend.
im somehow fine and a tiny bit disappointed that the last step is Also Just Tomestones which means this was truly the easiest fucking relic in all fucking history Ever, with not a single bit of actual grinding to be done if all you ever do is random roulettes at your own pace - but darn, i was kinda hoping i would be farming the asura trial or Something, like a little bit, lol
regardless, its an entertaining last step from a comedic standpoint, and goshhhhh, the vfx is gorgeous on the whm staff. i was right, squeenix can never ever fuck up a whm relic as per my own preferences - truly the safe choice when doing a relic series blind lol
rob plounce's ffxiv fic reclist
this will update as i continue to find stuff i enjoy. (it also exists as a page on my desktop blog!)
disclaimer: this is just stuff i’ve read that i’ve enjoyed! i have my own favorite characters and pairings, so my reclist skews heavily towards those. i’m not super into in wolshipping, so there won’t be much of that, sorry! i have not read everything in every pairing and character tag, so don’t take this as a comprehensive guide. these are just things that i liked and think are worth reading.
fics are noted with wordcount, pairing (or as gen), and rating (e = explicit). * means it's been recently added to the list.
spoilers ahoy!
scions
*flight of an anorak (17k+, G) gen - urianger childhood backstory fic with transfem urianger! incredibly well-characterized urianger narration. breaks my heart and brings a smile to my face with every update.
lost and found (8.8k, T). gen, light moenuri - you know how moenbryda’s parents basically adopted urianger after they basically abandoned him? this fic is about that. also urianger autism :)
while eating (2.2k, G) gen - more baby autistic urianger with bastard parents. sob. at least moenbryda’s parents are there.
foster (1k, G) gen - pre-canon, thancred overhears fourchenault and louisoix talking about him.
second impression (4.8k, T) gen - fourchenault is a bit more of a classist bastard than in canon and is a dick to thancred, but gets past it. mostly. thancred does his best.
the stars in their abundance (2.7k, T) gen - pre-canon from the perspective of g'raha’s mom in corvos!
cross (1.1k, G) gen - minfilia and thancred clean up the mess of thancred’s possession.
your song, carried onwards (4.9k, G) gen - thancred’s rescue of alisaie from the WoD in the hvw patches.
a stranger in the woods (4.3k, E) thancred/marcechamp - you know, the guy from tailfeather in heavensward? they hook up. thancred gets taken care of.
dust in your eyes (8.8k, T). background ships include wolchefant, wolcred, and haurchefant/urianger, but is mostly about thancred being a sad bastard who is always too slow, too late, and trying to be his best self but not totally succeeding. and haurchefant being a great guy. good character stuff.
how massive is the spirit in us (2.2k, G) gen - ryne character introspection… makes my heart hurt.
testing the waters (1.8k, G) gen - thancred teaches ryne to swim.
the shimmering light (2k, G) gen, light thanuri - urianger settling into the bookman’s shelves. fun il mheg worldbuilding.
almost crystal, almost ascian (10k, T) gen - minfilia and the exarch meet up a few times over the course of a century. their parallelisms. the horror of being “minfilia.”
off the hook, provisionally (974, G) gen - y'shtola talks to the exarch in the wake of 5.0 about his deception.
among the shelves (5k, G). gen - the twins and ryne hang out and talk about the other scions.
portentous news (842, G) gen - urianger’s first morning on the moon in the middle of endwalker.
adventures in unlikely friendship (23k, T) gen - wol+cred friendship! i really like these. the bozja one is delightful. passively-suicidal bestiessss
void parsley sojourn (4k, T) gen, light thanuri - urianger hotboxes the rising stones. very charming depiction of urianger as a weed nerd. makes me laugh and smile every time i read it!
there is (maybe) an ascian among us (11k, T) gen, minor side pairings - post-endwalker, the scions try to get to the bottom of a conspiracy about thancred, who just wants to grill for gods sake! comedy.
two scions walks into a bar… (26k, T) gen, but eventually thanuri - a series where the author intended to just analyze and write about thancred & urianger’s relationship as gen, but then slid into shipping lmao. covers ARR-early STB with a bit of post-SHB. great character work for both of them!
respite, despite (25k, T) thanuri - urianger pining from pre-5.0 to the close of endwalker… good pining, good urianger misery, good romance. wagh!
erasing all the lines in the sand (30k, E) thanuri - mutual pining, miscommunication, coparenting! bookman’s shelves fic.
(in parantheses) (9.9k, M) thanuri - thancred's rescuing of minfilia, time in the first, and the mental stress that emet-selch gives him due to ascian trauma during shadowbringers. also getting together with urianger.
sleepy-eyed soldier (4.6k, M) thanuri - elidibus puppetting ardbert's body brings thancred’s ptsd over having his body used by lahabrea roaring back to the surface in the form of nightmares and hypervigilance. (mind the CWs)
trouble in paradise (2.3k, E) thanuri - transfem urianger!!!! :D :D :D great kind-of-an-asshole thancred character work. hurting each other but trying to fix it.
sole conundrum (412, G) thanuri - pre-edw garlemald scouting mission. urianger autism :D
three of swords reversed (3.2k, T) thanuri, moenuri - urianger dealing with grief over moenbryda and thancred in the later half of endwalker.
another sunrise (5.8k, T) thanuri - post-edw wanderings - urianger deals with a mystery, sudden solitude, and a crisis of doubt! ends happily.
take root in this barren soil (and grow back stronger) (7.4k, E) thanuri - thancred shares what the training regimen of a sharlayan spy entails, not expecting urianger to react so strongly.
to wander is a dream (46k, M) thanuri - post-edw. i don’t tend to enjoy hanahaki fics but this fic is so so so good. thancred being an emotionally stunted asshole, urianger being the world’s most beautiful martyr (for better or for worse), lots of fae stuff, both of them struggling to not be repressed.
why do we forbear? (9.3k, E) thanuri - modern au fake dating, which would usually not appeal to me but this one’s real cute. (currently unfinished)
*to care for those we love (11k, T) ryne and her parents, thanuri - ryne drags thancred to the bookman’s shelves and does her best to administer first aid in urianger’s absence. each chapter is from one of the trio’s pov - i’m usually not super into 1st person, but this fic uses it really effectively in imparting each character’s mindset. it’s very sweet!
ancients
on call (2.5k, T) hythades - emet-selch goes out of town, and hyth is asked to step in for a soul-seeing duty. and he futzes with emet-selch’s office.
mail run (840, G) hythades - “A young archival intern keeps finding completely legitimate reasons to do all the deliveries to a very specific Bureau of the Architect clerk. For no reason at all.” young love!
as stars to a sky (1.8k, T) hythades - little vignettes about life in the pre-sundered world.
the seat of destruction (13k, M) hythades - canon-divergent au where hythlodaeus is the one to take the seat of emet-selch, and the sundering still happens. my favorite ascian!hyth work.
affective memory (9.3k, T) hythades - pov from the shade of hythlodaeus as he wanders around emet-selch’s reconstructed amaurot.
for good health and opportunity (14k, T) pre-emetexarch - emet-selch visits the crystal exarch numerous times over the course of a century. frenemies!
other characters
“nero tol scaeva did nothing wrong”… (5k, G) gen - a bunch of job npcs try to arrest nero for driving without a license. goes about as well as you might think.
biohazard (1.1k, G) gen - nero hates valens’ ass. not because he has “morals” or anything he just thinks valens is a dogshit project manager.
left in the dust (3.9k, T?) cidnero - ARR nero finds amnesiac marques working in the lichyard. miserable little man.
adrift in memory’s fog (16k, T) cidnero - cid’s frequent bouts of amnesia have led to a patchy memory - enough where he forgets that he and nero were betrothed as teenagers. (trans cid!)
the troubled envoy (1.3k, T) gen - maxima’s diary entries during the stormblood patches, including his thoughts on his weird boss.
the last abandonment (1.9k, M) gen - maxima wanders the ruins of garlemald and reflects on his time in the garlean left. by the same author as above - i really rec all their maxima fics.
this cathedral where your face stains the windows (2k, G) ysayle/igeyrohm - “Someone had to teach Ysayle summoning.” great ysayle heresy stuff + toxic yuri.
this blessed day (80k, M) gen - lucia’s journey from a captured garlean spy to aymeric’s right hand. lucia……
cadavre exquis (6.4k, T) gen - emmanellain helps pack up haurchefant’s things at camp dragonhead ft ishgardian homophobia and an underground queer zine scene.
the lantern jar (19k, T) cirisadu - OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDD. this fic is so good. cirina and sadu growing close. lots of development of steppe spiritual traditions and beliefs.
duet (13k, T) estivrtra - estinien encourages vrtra to live more fully as a dragon. cool dragon stuff.
a view of you (14k, M) estivrtra - estinien gets fatally wounded, and vrtra keeps him alive via a great sacrifice (sadly unfinished, but what’s there is a great read)
veteran advisor (15k, E) vrtra/estinien/gaius - really great gaius character work here where he and allie are on vacation in radz-at-han, and the impact that has on both of them. but also? it's mostly about big!varshahn getting railed. good for him!
this home wrested forth (2.5k, T) gen - sidurgu from DRK quests and alaqa from WHM quests meet up and deal with some gridanian wrongdoing.
a fervent desire (111k+, E) sanson/guydelot - an incredibly in-depth retelling of the BRD quests. great work developing these characters and giving them really in-depth motivations!
and love you shall find (9.8k, E) sanson/guydelot - BRD quests, but what if sanson journals as an accommodation for short-term memory loss?
FFxivWrite2024 Prompt #9 (Lend an Ear)
Title: Field Notes on Misija, Part III
Wordcount: 1028
Alternate Universe: WoL was out fishing
Spoilers through: Shadowbringers, specifically Bozja storyline
Relationships & Characters: Misija, Fordola
Summary: Even further handwritten notes on the history and character of the IVth's covert operative, Misija Votyasch.  Use to add to your field record.
(Experimenting with a new format this time! I’ve been wanting to try my hand at writing an “interrogation transcript” in the style of one of the Bozja Field Notes for a while. I just did DRN on my alt last weekend, so it seemed a good idea to write it while that was fresh in my mind!)
.
This document records a supervised visitation between Ala Mhigan Resistance conscript Fordola Lupis and covert operative Misija Votyasch, as facilitated by liaison officer Apella.
.
M: Back again, I see. And you’ve brought a friend too. Is this another interrogation? I've already said my piece, and you yours.
A: This is Fordola Lupis, of the Ala Mhigan Resistance. She has requested permission to speak with you.
M: I don’t recognize that name. Her face and uniform seem familiar, though.
F: We crossed blades in Delubrum Reginae.
M: So the noble Resistance has resorted to sacrificing the soldiers of its allies rather than risk being tempered themselves. Even now, I find new ways to be disappointed in the supposed “values” of the nation they seek to build.
F: Your eikon posed no threat to me.
M: If it hadn’t been for the Eorzean champion, I would have tempered you like the rest.
A: You have five minutes, starting now.
M: And just like that, she’s gone. Shame. She’s a gentle one at heart, it would not surprise me if she approved this visit herself. But who are you? What do you want with me?
F: I just needed to know: were you another dupe or another madman?
M: I don’t follow.
F: Seeing as you still don’t know the smell of your own shite even after it’s bitten you in the arse, I’m guessing it’s the first one.
M: If you’re just here to insult me, you can leave.
F: Did you know tea works for the headaches? And that painkillers what put you to sleep don't? Or did they leave that part out too?
M: Who said I was having headaches? …Ah. I understand now. So you’re her. We thought test subject XXVIII had been executed by the rebels.
F: Not yet, they haven’t.
M: I pity you. But your own sympathy is misplaced. The IVth isn't like the XIIth. I did not gamble my life in an unethical experiment the way you were made to.
F: Like hells you didn’t. There is no safe procedure.
M: I speak the truth. Van Galbranth cares about the well-being of his men. He would not trust Sicinius if he didn't have standards.
F: Standards? You met that man and you thought he had standards? He's a snake like mal Asina was before him. Any assurances he gave you were worth less than bollocks.
M: And yet, I stand before you.
F: Aye, unlike the poor bastards we dug up underneath the Castrum. Dozens upon dozens of corpses for the one miracle that was you. No different than in Ala Mhigo.
M: You’re lying. There were no corpses.
F: Mayhap not on the report you saw. You never stopped to wonder? If the Garleans could piss super soldiers like they were water, why wouldn't they?
M: …
F: It's because they can't. Like I said: dupes or madmen. Those are the only lot what volunteers when the survival rate’s less than six sodding percent!
A: Two minutes left.
M: I cannot fathom what you hope to gain from this bizarre debate. Suppose your assessment is correct and not merely outdated. What does it matter? I will not give you the satisfaction of breaking my pride over the proof of a single deceiver amidst our ranks.
F: Keep your bloody pride, I don’t want it. But you’ll want to hear the rest I’ve got to say.
M: Out with it, then.
F: Don't worry about the dreams, those are normal. Not feeling your limbs, or feeling like your body's not your own, is not. Tell someone, though if you've got to that point it's probably too late anyhow.
M: …Fascinating. Undoubtedly concerning. But fascinating nonetheless. Are you describing a fatal mismatch between incorporeal and corporeal aether?
F: Do I sound like a scholar to you? I’m just repeating that what’s been told to me.
M: As you so colorfully emphasized, I was not made aware of this danger by any Garlean scientists. What was your source of information?
F: One of the Students. My Mikoto, so to speak. She was… kinder to me than I deserved. Afterwards.
M: Krile Baldesion, if I am not mistaken.
F: The records had her name, but not mine? Hmph. Right - speaking of, check your blood type if you ever need a transfusion. Mine’s turned into the same rare Lalafell swill she has. You’ll likely get Au ra.
M: Why would trace aberrations in the soul alter the nature of corporeal aether? I am no expert in such fields, but what you are suggesting goes against even basic, foundational aetheric theory.
F: You ever stopped to watch a ceruleum refinery?
M: I presume you are going somewhere with this. Yes, I have. They built one over the polluted slum where I grew up. Why?
F: Those flares they set off? That's you. Your soul’s now got more aether than your body knows what to do with, and it gets funny about it. …Or something to that tune. Feels great until it doesn't. By now you'll be hitting the pins and needles stage. Exercising makes it go away for a while. Feeling sorry for yourself doesn't.
M: You have a talent for memorable imagery, I won’t deny that. We may agree on very little else, but I can respect your advice, and the candor with which you have chosen to share it.
F: If you ever need some bugger to talk to about it all, I’ll lend you an ear. Least I can do, seeing as you’ve let me borrow yours all this time.
M: I see. So you’re another gentle soul, even if you have a markedly unpleasant way of expressing it. I will keep your offer in mind. Our minders permitting, of course.
A: Your time is up. Please conclude your discussion.
M: It was interesting to meet you, Fordola. I’ll admit our conversation was stimulating, if nothing else.
F: Don't kill yourself.  …Alright, I’m done. You can take me outside.
.
A copy of this report has been submitted to Commander Raubahn Aldynn as per the agreement between the Bozjan Resistance and Eorzean Alliance to flag anomalous behavior among conscripts and imperial defectors.
Ladies' Profiles: Helena Avesna
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: Helena Avesna (Helen is an acceptable nickname for those that know her.)
Age: 42 (as of Patch 6.55, The Coming Dawn, born June 28th/29th Sun of the 3rd Umbral Moon)
Family members: Vesna Amira Ruzasch (mother), Damir Amira (father)
Height: 233.68cm / 7’8”
Preferred professions: GNB, VPR (MNK on a technicality, as she is very much a fistfighter but is not trained formally in that sense.)
Aetheric alignment: Umbral wind
(Some Bozja and Endwalker spoilers ensue below.)
================================================
In the Ladies' worldline, nomadic Bozjan Hrothgar tribes are often known by lineages that take note of distinct traits that run in the queens of each lineage. Helena's lineage, "Black-Marks-Green-Eyes", spans back several generations, and has roamed the Bozjan countryside for nearly as long. Helena was raised by her mother Vesna and father Damir, groomed to become the next queen of her lineage and trained in the use of a gunblade from when she was very young, continuing to follow her parents and her tribe as they lived in the wilds to avoid the spectre of Garlean imperialism as much as possible. Then, the Bozjan Incident occurred, and Helena, a young woman in truth now, decided that simply surviving the occupation would no longer be enough. And so she became a member of the nascent, underground Bozjan resistance, fighting in what ways she could--at least until she drew too much attention after destroying one of the larger Garlean encampments at great risk and cost to her own health. Out of a need to sequester herself as far away as possible for a few years, she went far westward, until she found herself in Tural and was fortunate enough to pick up the art of the viper whilst her bones and spirit recovered.
Once rejuvenated, she made her way back to Bozja, right as (unbeknownst to her) the Ladies of Light helped to liberate Doma and Ala Mhigo, revitalizing the resistance effort and giving Helena prime work on the ground once more as she returned to Bozja to take up the duty of a Resistance fighter once again. Then, some time later, the Ladies of Light came to the Bozjan Southern front and helped push Bozja's liberation forward; at the rank of Captain, Helena did not get to fight beside them, but supplemented their work from the rear by staying in the trenches and helping to keep the frontline stable.
Eventually, following Bozja's liberation, she left behind Bozja once more, feeling restless and desiring to travel. She would wander for several more years, taking on jobs as a bodyguard and a hunter in her roaming, until she was contracted via a third party to help bring materials to Old Sharlayan for the fueling of the Ragnarok. Whilst there, she took up guildship hunting, which put her in the prime position to meet both Rija and Ystride by chance whilst they were training in Labyrinthos. Recognizing their style of gunblade combat, Helena challenged them both to a duel, then revealed upon beating both of them that she could tell that Rija had been trained by her old comrade Radovan and that Rija in turn taught Ystride. In need of a way to keep herself busy and to spur Rija and Ystride into growing, she told them both to seek her out in Tural in order to truly hone themselves; once they, along with the rest of the Ladies, did so, she took it upon herself to both travel alongside them all and "finish" Rija and Ystride's training herself, molding them both into veteran gunbreakers, teaching Rija the art of the viper, and ultimately entangling herself, if indirectly, in the Ladies' own trail through Tural...
Helena's personality is precisely what one might expect from a woman who's been a resistance fighter and leader of men for a good half of her life--blunt, a little jaded, practical, and sarcastic, alongside cutting a commanding, no-nonsense and queenly figure. Prone as she is to occasionally cracking jokes about her old bones and generally sizing people up more out of instinct than habit, she is, at her heart, someone who is looking for her own life now that she--much like her nation--is in transition, and loves to teach those that are willing to learn, both as a way of keeping traditions alive and as a method of ensuring that knowledge is preserved for the new generations.
In contrast to many of the Ladies' own multidisciplinary approaches, Helena specializes primarily in the use of two weapon types: the Bozjan gunblade, and various styles of twinfangs. She has honed her approaches to both to the absolute limit, easily swapping between them as the battle demands and overwhelming the opponent with a style similar to Rija's blisteringly misdirecting offenses, but from an angle of pure power. Her agility and strength have only slightly declined with age, if at all, and are well-compensated for by her keen tactical senses and willingness to fight dirty when it's absolutely warranted; while she is no shard of Azem, or any other particularly "well-known" Ancient, she has the most fighting experience of all the ladiesoutside of Euphemia herself, and it shows.
