Popular YouTubers "reacting" to audio roleplay by trying to exaggerate how cringe they think it is fucking exhausts me man. Half the time they do Cinema Sins-style commentary but from this "what if I don't like beans" point of view of just refusing to suspend disbelief and roleplay as the listener character. The commentary is always them talking back at the audio like "uh, you're not my boyfriend, actually my boyfriend's name is Steven and he's in the living room right now" or just failing to accept the premise of the video they clicked on. Acting shocked when a character kisses them and going "UHHH WHY IS HE KISSING ME". It's because you clicked on a boyfriend ASMR video tagged [kissing], that's why. Don't be dense.

It feels like they want for it to be way more cringe than it actually is, so they put on this exaggerated display, or act shocked that an audio matches its premise. This shit would be like making a video called "Reacting to Horror Movies (try not to cringe)" and being like "UHHH WHY IS THE KNIFE GUY STABBING PEOPLE???? I'M SO UNCOMFORTABLE". Man shut up. Then there's YouTubers reacting to videos that are very obviously ironic, absurdist humor and refusing to get that it's a joke. No, "Boyfriend Gets Hit By a Car [Spicy]" isn't actually supposed to be spicy, it's a joke.

These reaction videos are, for many outside of the niche, their only window into audio roleplays. Anything that has a plot that takes more than two minutes to understand is left out because they don't have the patience to watch the whole thing and only want to "react" to thirty-second clips. Anything that doesn't look like it'll make for good cringe bait is left out because they decided ahead of time that they want to cringe to it.

The whole medium is already so unfairly stigmatized and poorly understood by most people. It's so agonizing seeing this be our community's main source of free publicity. I know I've taken a few shots at cheap fluff boyfriend/girlfriend ASMR before but like, it's friendly jabbing from someone very much adjacent to them. I still understand the value that comfort roleplays have to their audiences, even if their plots aren't as deep. The whole medium-wide dismissal that these YouTubers give for some cheap reaction content on a newer medium they don't understand is actually the worst.

I need to make a video essay or something to act as propaganda for audio roleplays because the publicity we get passively could not be worse I swear to God.

You are the backbone of that community, never let anyone tell you otherwise because a good portion of that channel's audience probably wouldn't have been there if you weren't making stuff for it. Remember that. You are important and don't ever let them tell you otherwise because you're keeping people going while that channel isn't posting.

Luca: choking on his coffee, face turning beet red "EXCUSE ME?!"

Student: completely unfazed "It’s just a vibe thing, you know? Like, they seem like the type to—"

Luca: flustered, burying his face in his hands "This is wildly inappropriate! We're talking about psychological development, not—what even—NO!"

Another student in the back: "That's a bottom reaction, not gonna lie."

Luca: visibly panicking "I'M YOUR TEACHING ASSISTANT, NOT YOUR FRIEND! OPEN YOUR TEXTBOOKS. NOW."

Student: smirking, whispering to their friend "Definitely a bottom."

Pov: Nothing else matters when it's you and him...

It was another regular day for you. You were laying in bed hearing your boyfriend move about,doing his work.

"Do you want some tea?"

He asked you. You smiled in response.

"Alright, I'll make some for you too. It's a new flavour I saw. I hope it's good."

You continued to lay and relax in the soft comfort of your bed. He sat down for a minute and you heard the him typing something on his desktop.

"I'll be there in a minute."

After a few seconds, you heard his footsteps coming towards you. He bent down and pecked your lips. It made your heart flutter. You felt butterflies in your stomach as you shifted slightly in your bed. He pulls up after placing a few more kisses. He lets out a small chuckle. You heard the sheets rustling as he laid down beside you.

"I was thinking of planning some sort of trip.."

You heard him say..

"it's just so busy with your schedule and my own that we just...don't have time. I wish we'd get to be more close together. I always look forward to spend my time with you."

You again smiled hearing him say.

"i know you want to spend time with me too and I also know that work is important. But taking a break is also very important you know..."

He said to you. He shifted a bit closer to you.

"Mmm..like the view?"

He teased. You chuckled at his attempts to fluster you.

"I definitely like mine...I don't know how I got so lucky..."

You smiled shly upon hearing his flirtatious teases. It went on for a few moments. You shifted in your bed slightly. You kept listening to him talking about his day..work.. passions...and most importantly..he talked about you two and what a life he wanted with you. It was all going so well until you heard a slight change in his voice..it..went..lower..?

"Huh?"

You thought to yourself. The smiling lightning up your face fades away as you hear his voice slowly fade away as well...

"The audio ended...?"

You picked up your phone to see that the audio did end. You were staring at the blank screen of the YouTube video with the replay button being the center of attention. Suddenly..unease flooded your heart as you put your phone down and looked around the room. The sounds of love...laughter...and life were now being replaced with the haunting sounds of your loneliness. The bizzare void of nothingness in your heart. It felt so heavy yet so hallow.

You again picked up your phone to quickly replace the ended video with another...you school through YouTube endlessly hoping to find something to ease the pain in your heart. To play the role of love you never got. To fill the void in your heart with comfort.

You had no one.

No one to ever fill these empty places. No one to love. No one to run to. No one to cry to. No one to laugh with.

No matter how many audios you listened to...deep down you knew it was all in your head. The reality that you hated so much, that you longed to escape from is going to come back to you one way or another. You can turn away from the truth but you can't ever deny it. The only weapon you had against war with reality was your imagination.

You wiped a tear from your eye as you almost started to panic at the thought of utter loneliness. That was until the sound of his voice filled your ears again and there you were...in your own world..with him..

"Darling! are you home?"

You shifted in your bed and smiled hearing him call you darling... Lost in bliss only to return to the pain...again.

We've gotta do something about these YouTubers "reacting" to audio roleplays as cringe material. It's so fucking stupid, it's a form of narrative fiction. If you want to have a valid opinion on it you have to actually fucking listen to it. I can't stand seeing YouTubers open a video, listen to ten seconds, "react", then skip around the audio and listen to another random ten seconds then skip to another audio and do the same.

This would be like if someone made a video called "reacting to novels" where they opened a book, read five sentences, made an exaggerated face for the thumbnail, then skipped to chapter 15 or opened another book and did the same thing. It's actually ridiculous.

Reaction content fucking sucks already. But taking long form media and chopping it into 20 second random pieces to quickly "react" to for cheap content is unbelievable. Most of the people doing this shit don't even seem to have a clue what audio roleplay even is. Like halfway through the video they'll pause and ask "Oh, are the pauses me talking?". Or they'll make this shocked face and be like "uhhh, is this guy supposed to be my boyfriend?" when they jumped to like the 14th video in a slow burn romance series. Holy shit just either listen to the actual audio or shut the fuck up.

Maybe it's just me but as a general rule I won't talk bad about anything or anyone that I haven't learned enough about to give a fair chance. It's actually so fucking annoying.

Happy Birthday, Issac Rhodes!

This was a broken man. He was ripped away from his family and put into a longtime state of paranoia and security within his own home. He is a man of high authority, but he's also a lonely man of authority....until Listener came into the picture. After Issac saves Listener from certain doom, or death, likely even both, he takes them in as a housekeeper who makes sure the house is in tip-top shape. However, things gradually changed overtime as Issac and Listener spent more time together. You want a slow burn! This series is DEFINITELY a slow burn! The two don't begin a speck of romance until the third act of Episode 5. Before then in Episode 3, Issac was a bit more open with Listener (likely because he was drunk) about himself, but Episode 5 really hits home when he's open about the demise of his family....mainly his mother. Since then, Issac and Listener have grown more close and Listener even gets promoted from housekeeper to an assistant and things have only gotten better. Issac is a lonely man no longer....hopefully! Aside from his storyline, Issac grew to be a very popular character to the audience. He's practically second most popular next to Andrew (Strict Professor)! In fact, he used to date Andrew before saving Listener's life! They had something going on until they left on good terms. I've seen just about tons of fanart of this guy that you could put it all in one of the hallways at an art museum. Issac isn't necessarily my favorite character, but he's one that I appreciate because he has such well-written character and his interactions with Listener are enjoyable to listen to. Happy Birthday, you beautiful hermit!
