HIP-HOP IS WHITE-OWNED
Hip-hop started life in impoverished Black immigrant communities in New York in the ‘70s - and has become a global phenomenon worth billions. Yet as Boyce Watkins - who promotes financial empowerment among Black people - points out here, most of those profits aren’t going into Black pockets: the biggest record labels - Warner, Universal, Sony - are White-owned.
He says it’s a similar story with Hollywood, where a film hailed as a milestone for Black representation on the silver screen - Black Panther - is enriching White execs the most.
It’s not like we’re going to stop listening to hip-hop or watching films that centre Afro-American narratives, so what’s the answer?

No need for a PhD to do that. Looking at Umar Johnson, Boyce Watkins, and the gurus/master teachers/podcasters on Youtube & Tiktok. All of those years, investments, and money used, just to be a silly goose, getting side eyed from every dimension.

The narratives being promoted today is that Black Indigenous People globally boycott Black Business Owners because they don't want to see Black People Succeed.
What kind of bullshit is this? I would love to hear your voice on this matter because I can't see or comprehend anything like this being anything other than pure propaganda and the destruction of Black Entrepreneurship because I am a Black Business Owner myself and I only have Black Indigenous People globally as my customers.

EFL ONE MATCH REPORT: Reading (0) 0 Leyton Orient (1) 1
Date: Saturday 14 September, 2024
Kick-off: 3pm
On a bright, sunny, warm afternoon, the Reading attack showed two minutes of promising enterprise at the (delayed) start (due to an officials tech issues) but gradually Orient grew in confidence and easily overwhelmed a Royals team that both had no obvious midfield players and so this - by tactical default - allowed the middle of the park to be dominated by the away team. Therefore, Reading's chances were only occasional the entire 90+ minutes.
By the finish, The O's were passing the ball around with confidence, earning the right to do so almost from the off with marvellous defending which by "header and footer" they maintained right until the end.
The reds GK, Hemming, when called on, was outstanding, from catching an early shot fired close by his right hand post, to making some diving saves and blocks.
Spare a thought though for the hoops GK, Boyce-Clarke, who never really settled in despite pulling off one wonder save (over the bar) first half before conceding the only goal of the game on 27 minutes through Kelman. However, Boyce-Clarke was still Reading's best player in a team that didn't shine at all.
An absorbing game, the only negatives were a pedestrian referee (Declan Bourne) and some gamesmanship from the away team to slow and break the game up, especially 2nd half.
Leyton Orient move off the bottom to 22nd by sheer grit, Reading drop from 7th to 12th and on this evidence, do look an average midtable side (at best).
Teams:

LEYTON ORIENT MOTM: Zach Hemmings
Attendance: 12,952

Write in candidate for president of the United States of America 2024, Sr. Cornel West speaks to purpose. Demoncrats and Republicants aren't the only ones to consider. Vote for purpose not to go with who you think you have to vote for without knowing others are seeking the seat.

Biz Markie is best known for his hit song "Just a Friend," that he recorded in 1989.
The song was hilarious and his talent is unquestionable. But many were surprised to hear that, despite the fact that Biz Markie was the creative genius behind this song, his family earns ZERO ROYALTIES after his death.
While Biz Markie and DJ Cool V are able to make money from "Just a Friend" through performance, some might wonder how they were passed over on the money made from licensing this popular song all around the world.
In fact, when I looked up "Just a Friend" on Youtube, the song has 74 million views.
This leads to the uncomfortable conversation about financial literacy and how hip-hop was stolen away from black people.
While I am not one to criticize Biz Markie or anybody else, I can also say that there are thousands of examples of situations where our lack of training in basic financial literacy has been costly.
While one can certainly argue that black people have been victimized by those who understand finances better than we do, there is no remedy found in constantly claiming yourself to be a victim.
A more empowered approach would be to ensure that our kids are NOT DISTRACTED by nonsense, media, sports, rapping and inferior education and are instead exposed to basic economic intelligence at an early age.
I would guess that black people have lost AT LEAST $5 trillion dollars from hip-hop and sports alone in the last 40 years.
So, maybe instead of simply learning how to bust raps and dribble basketballs, we can make sure our kids are well-versed in #blackwealth, ownership and economics. We can do all these things at the same time.
WE are all that we need and the truth is that we HAVE-NO-FRIENDS.
Sincerely,
Dr Boyce Watkins
